affliction_n for_o christ_n his_o sake_n to_o show_v all_o good_a faithfulness_n unto_o he_o and_o to_o rejoice_v in_o he_o with_o unspeakable_a joy_n in_o what_o estate_n and_o condition_n so_o ever_o see_v we_o may_v well_o perceive_v that_o the_o one_o sort_n as_o well_o as_o the_o other_o be_v high_o and_o precious_o esteem_v of_o he_o for_o he_o that_o so_o dear_o love_v and_o so_o they_o suffer_v that_o affliction_n which_o they_o endure_v in_o the_o cause_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o indeed_o of_o both_o they_o do_v perform_v the_o more_o excellent_a duty_n and_o service_n to_o our_o saviour_n whosoever_o be_v content_a need_v so_o require_v to_o want_v all_o worldly_a comfort_n yea_o to_o endure_v all_o torment_n for_o he_o and_o his_o truth_n sake_n thus_o therefore_o as_o be_v say_v before_o we_o may_v easy_o perceive_v that_o our_o saviour_n be_v very_a earnest_n in_o commend_v the_o work_n of_o mercy_n and_o compassion_n such_o as_o he_o have_v mention_v yea_o and_o all_o other_o of_o the_o same_o or_o like_o kind_n no_o doubt_n for_o as_o have_v be_v already_o observe_v our_o saviour_n in_o mention_v these_o for_o instance_n do_v not_o mind_n to_o exclude_v any_o other_o and_o beside_o that_o insomuch_o as_o there_o be_v many_o other_o duty_n of_o other_o sort_n and_o kind_n and_o the_o same_o also_o more_o excellent_a than_o these_o in_o that_o they_o do_v more_o immediate_o and_o direct_o concern_v the_o majesty_n of_o god_n and_o be_v as_o the_o root_n of_o those_o to_o wit_n the_o true_a knowledge_n faith_n fear_n and_o love_n of_o express_v mention_n only_o of_o the_o mercifulnes_n of_o the_o godly_a with_o the_o action_n thereof_o to_o their_o praise_n here_o as_o afterward_o of_o unmercifulnes_n only_o to_o the_o reproof_n and_o condemnation_n of_o the_o wicked_a question_n what_o may_v be_v the_o reason_n hereof_o answer_n first_o because_o through_o self-love_n which_o be_v natural_o most_o deep_o root_v in_o we_o we_o be_v very_o hardly_o draw_v to_o the_o performance_n of_o these_o duty_n of_o love_n to_o our_o neighbour_n yea_o most_o hard_o to_o the_o duty_n of_o christian_n love_n to_o our_o christian_n afflict_v and_o impoverish_v brethren_n how_o sharp_a soever_o their_o affliction_n be_v though_o it_o be_v hunger_n a_o very_a sharp_a sauce_n as_o we_o all_o may_v know_v or_o nakedness_n or_o any_o other_o second_o because_o these_o duty_n be_v the_o most_o familiar_a and_o plain_a testimony_n of_o a_o upright_a heart_n towards_o christ_n whereas_o it_o be_v most_o usual_a with_o hypocrite_n to_o rest_v in_o the_o external_a ceremony_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n without_o any_o further_a regard_n three_o because_o as_o the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v more_o merciful_a and_o in_o the_o fruit_n of_o mercy_n more_o plentiful_a &_o constant_a to_o the_o succour_v and_o help_v of_o their_o needy_a and_o helpless_a brethren_n here_o upon_o earth_n by_o so_o much_o the_o more_o lively_a they_o do_v represent_v the_o divine_a image_n and_o likeness_n of_o god_n their_o heavenly_a father_n and_o contrariwise_o because_o where_o unmercifulnes_n be_v there_o do_v easy_o lodge_v cruelty_n and_o all_o other_o sin_n and_o for_o that_o as_o any_o be_v more_o unmerciful_a and_o cruel_a so_o be_v they_o not_o only_o more_o unlike_a to_o grd_n but_o also_o more_o like_a to_o their_o father_n holy_a scripture_n because_o few_o of_o such_o have_v be_v charge_v and_o detect_v or_o hypocrisy_n then_o of_o the_o other_o as_o may_v appear_v by_o the_o usual_a practice_n of_o the_o holy_a number_n though_o they_o be_v such_o as_o be_v so_o far_o from_o relieve_n other_n that_o they_o can_v succour_v themselves_o and_o beside_o sometime_o even_o those_o that_o glad_o will_v relieve_v those_o christian_n that_o be_v shut_v up_o in_o prison_n can_v be_v permit_v to_o have_v access_n unto_o they_o or_o to_o send_v that_o succour_n which_o they_o desire_v they_o may_v some_o also_o be_v so_o unapt_a to_o comfort_v those_o that_o be_v in_o distress_n either_o in_o prison_n or_o in_o grievous_a sickness_n etc._n etc._n that_o they_o shall_v in_o visit_v of_o they_o more_o
