which_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n and_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n do_v so_o palpable_o condemn_v i_o be_o persuade_v that_o the_o drunkard_n swearer_n liar_n sabbath-breaker_n the_o man_n that_o neglect_v prayer_n reading_n and_o meditation_n do_v not_o think_v these_o way_n of_o they_o be_v good_a they_o walk_v up_o and_o down_o as_o self-condemned_n person_n second_o they_o may_v see_v not_o only_o the_o evil_n of_o their_o way_n but_o also_o the_o danger_n of_o they_o they_o have_v some_o glance_n and_o hint_n yea_o and_o sometime_o foreta_v of_o the_o sad_a end_n of_o these_o thing_n they_o be_v convince_v of_o the_o inseparable_a and_o just_a connexion_n that_o be_v betwixt_o sin_n and_o misery_n they_o see_v that_o they_o be_v go_v down_o to_o the_o chamber_n of_o death_n and_o that_o their_o step_n take_v hold_v of_o hell_n and_o yet_o this_o will_v not_o stop_v they_o they_o will_v have_v their_o lust_n how_o dear_a soever_o they_o pay_v for_o they_o hereafter_o this_o be_v evident_a rom._n 1.32_o who_o know_v the_o just_a judgement_n of_o god_n that_o they_o who_o do_v such_o thing_n be_v worthy_a of_o death_n not_o only_o do_v the_o same_o but_o have_v pleasure_n in_o they_o that_o do_v they_o there_o be_v three_o thing_n lie_v open_a to_o they_o first_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o judgement_n or_o sentence_n pronounce_v against_o such_o sinner_n second_o that_o this_o sentence_n be_v unto_o death_n three_o that_o this_o be_v a_o just_a and_o righteous_a judgement_n these_o thing_n must_v needs_o carry_v with_o they_o very_o great_a conviction_n of_o the_o demerit_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o danger_n
christian_n how_o many_o be_v there_o here_o that_o will_v take_v up_o some_o duty_n that_o be_v in_o fashion_n and_o yet_o will_v neglect_v other_o that_o have_v a_o little_a self_n denial_n annex_v unto_o they_o can_v you_o be_v disciple_n of_o christ_n without_o follow_v christ_n nay_o can_v you_o be_v disciple_n without_o follow_v he_o with_o your_o cross_n upon_o your_o back_n mat._n 16.24_o sincere_a christian_a labour_n to_o find_v out_o his_o defect_n and_o to_o be_v humble_v for_o they_o but_o the_o half_a christian_a either_o see_v or_o consider_v they_o not_o and_o therefore_o be_v quiet_a under_o they_o a_o gracious_a soul_n be_v much_o in_o pry_v into_o its_o own_o miscarriage_n both_o in_o its_o omissious_a what_o duty_n hasbin_n neglect_v &_o into_o its_o weakness_n what_o neglect_n have_v be_v in_o the_o duty_n what_o grace_n be_v want_v or_o what_o be_v weak_a in_o it_o and_o so_o one_o duty_n rise_v out_o of_o the_o ash_n of_o another_o but_o the_o other_o take_v no_o notice_n of_o those_o thing_n but_o content_v himself_o when_o he_o have_v do_v the_o duty_n and_o be_v glad_a that_o his_o task_n be_v over_o even_o as_o one_o rejoice_v that_o he_o be_v come_v to_o his_o journey_n end_n the_o one_o see_v a_o reason_n to_o pray_v again_o when_o he_o have_v be_v at_o prayer_n to_o beg_v pardon_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o his_o prayer_n but_o the_o other_o see_v no_o such_o thing_n the_o language_n of_o a_o carnal_a heart_n after_o any_o duty_n however_o it_o be_v do_v be_v nothing_o but_o this_o now_o soul_n take_v thy_o ease_n oh_o now_o tell_v i_o be_v there_o not_o many_o that_o live_v in_o the_o neglect_n of_o duty_n public_a and_o private_a family_n and_o closet_n duty_n and_o yet_o you_o be_v quiet_a under_o they_o this_o be_v sad_a evidence_n that_o you_o be_v of_o these_o half_a christian_n if_o you_o be_v true_o humble_v two_o be_v impossible_a that_o you_o shall_v please_v yourselves_o in_o such_o a_o posture_n it_o be_v impossible_a for_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n to_o continue_v resolve_o in_o that_o for_o which_o he_o be_v true_o humble_v that_o which_o thou_o groane_v under_o thou_o will_v labour_v to_o lay_v down_o and_o if_o thou_o be_v not_o humble_v under_o thy_o defect_n thou_o be_v no_o christian_n remember_v and_o consider_v it_o all_o you_o that_o hear_v i_o this_o day_n it_o be_v a_o thing_n in_o consistent_a with_o the_o truth_n of_o christianity_n for_o a_o man_n to_o live_v in_o a_o willing_a quiet_a constant_a neglect_n of_o any_o know_a duty_n the_o best_a christian_n may_v be_v be_v put_v by_o the_o performance_n of_o his_o know_a duty_n by_o the_o strength_n of_o some_o temptation_n for_o a_o time_n but_o to_o persist_v in_o this_o to_o make_v this_o his_o constant_a practice_n and_o quiet_a himself_o in_o it_o be_v a_o notorious_a proof_n of_o a_o half_a christian_n but_o this_o let_v i_o say_v to_o you_o who_o be_v complain_v of_o your_o fail_n in_o duty_n and_o be_v deep_o sensible_a of_o your_o wander_n and_o weakness_n and_o your_o soul_n be_v afflict_v for_o they_o and_o you_o be_v fill_v from_o hence_o with_o humble_a thought_n of_o yourselves_o god_n will_v put_v a_o difference_n betwixt_o your_o defect_n and_o other_o man_n be_v of_o good_a comfort_n you_o shall_v not_o be_v reckon_v among_o these_o halter_n and_o halfer_v in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n you_o that_o make_v this_o daily_a use_n of_o the_o imperfection_n of_o your_o duty_n to_o lie_v low_a and_o humble_a before_o the_o lord_n shall_v never_o be_v charge_v with_o they_o in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v and_o you_o that_o can_v neither_o think_v well_o nor_o speak_v well_o of_o yourselves_o in_o what_o you_o do_v you_o shall_v have_v this_o honour_n &_o this_o comfort_n to_o hear_v well_o of_o god_n and_o shall_v have_v this_o testimony_n that_o you_o have_v please_v he_o when_o you_o shall_v have_v the_o great_a seal_n of_o god_n approbation_n set_v upon_o your_o weak_a but_o sincere_a obedience_n well_o do_v you_o good_a and_o faithful_a servant_n he_o that_o be_v but_o almost_o a_o christian_n be_v unwilling_a to_o find_v out_o his_o duty_n though_o he_o dare_v not_o live_v out_o of_o the_o practice_n of_o it_o be_v convince_v but_o he_o that_o be_v altogether_o a_o christian_a do_v not_o only_o live_v in_o the_o practice_n of_o what_o he_o know_v but_o be_v greedy_a to_o know_v what_o he_o ought_v to_o practice_v it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o the_o live_n up_o to_o what_o we_o know_v as_o the_o desire_n to_o know_v how_o we_o shall_v live_v that_o do_v evidence_n a_o man_n to_o be_v a_o sound_n and_o impartial_a christian_n it_o be_v possible_a to_o find_v a_o man_n that_o neglect_v no_o know_a duty_n and_o yet_o be_v but_o half_a a_o christian_n for_o conscience_n may_v be_v so_o awaken_v that_o a_o man_n may_v not_o dare_v to_o neglect_v any_o thing_n which_o he_o be_v convince_v he_o ought_v to_o do_v be_v know_v he_o must_v practise_v it_o for_o his_o peace_n sake_n but_o this_o man_n be_v not_o willing_a to_o know_v his_o duty_n he_o will_v not_o take_v it_o up_o till_o it_o be_v clear_o bring_v home_o to_o he_o he_o will_v not_o seek_v for_o it_o and_o hunt_v after_o it_o he_o will_v stop_v his_o ear_n and_o eye_n as_o long_o as_o he_o can_v but_o when_o he_o can_v withstand_v the_o hint_n and_o intimation_n and_o conviction_n no_o long_o than_o he_o can_v but_o take_v it_o up_o but_o he_o that_o be_v a_o true_a christian_a do_v not_o only_o practice_v what_o he_o know_v but_o he_o desire_v to_o know_v that_o he_o may_v practice_v he_o seek_v out_o for_o his_o duty_n which_o a_o hypocrite_n will_v not_o do_v the_o hypocrite_n seek_v for_o his_o peace_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n but_o the_o godly_a man_n seek_v out_o for_o his_o duty_n if_o he_o have_v the_o least_o hint_n in_o the_o word_n of_o any_o duty_n which_o he_o have_v be_v ignorant_a of_o he_o can_v be_v quiet_a till_o he_o be_v satisfy_v about_o it_o till_o he_o have_v find_v it_o out_o the_o other_o do_v not_o more_o greedy_o suck_v in_o comfort_n and_o notious_a tend_v that_o way_n than_o he_o do_v information_n of_o duty_n and_o direction_n about_o it_o now_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o the_o difference_n between_o those_o two_o sort_n of_o person_n be_v not_o more_o eminent_o discern_v in_o any_o thing_n then_o in_o this_o i_o be_o speak_v unto_o for_o the_o high_a pitch_n that_o such_o a_o man_n can_v come_v to_o who_o be_v not_o full_o a_o christian_n be_v this_o that_o he_o may_v live_v in_o the_o practice_n of_o every_o know_a duty_n yet_o here_o he_o be_v distinguish_v from_o a_o sound_n hearty_a substantial_a christian_a there_o be_v in_o he_o a_o unwillingness_n to_o be_v inform_v and_o convince_v of_o his_o duty_n there_o do_v remain_v in_o every_o unregenerate_a man_n and_o be_v the_o sure_a mark_n of_o unregeneracy_n a_o unwilingness_n to_o come_v to_o the_o light_n lest_o their_o deed_n shall_v be_v discover_v natural_a conscience_n and_o legal_a work_n will_v make_v a_o man_n follow_v the_o light_n when_o once_o it_o have_v find_v he_o out_o but_o nothing_o but_o grace_n will_v make_v a_o man_n love_v the_o light_n and_o seek_v after_o the_o light_n to_o walk_v by_o it_o john_n 3.20_o 21._o give_v i_o leave_v to_o commend_v this_o particular_a to_o your_o consideration_n and_o take_v heed_n you_o be_v not_o deceive_v here_o here_o be_v some_o of_o you_o come_v to_o the_o word_n and_o perhaps_o god_n meet_v with_o you_o and_o convince_v you_o of_o a_o sin_n and_o you_o go_v away_o and_o resolve_v against_o it_o nay_o perhaps_o you_o make_v conscience_n of_o that_o ever_o after_o again_o you_o be_v convince_v of_o such_o a_o duty_n and_o go_v home_o and_o take_v up_o some_o resolution_n to_o practise_v it_o nay_o you_o can_v be_v quiet_a in_o the_o neglect_n of_o it_o and_o you_o will_v say_v sure_o i_o be_o now_o
