not_o so_o do_v you_o think_v such_o a_o man_n will_v profess_v it_o a_o man_n of_o part_n and_o good_a judgement_n and_o many_o time_n god_n own_o servant_n out_o of_o the_o sight_n of_o their_o own_o weakness_n and_o the_o discouragement_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o when_o they_o see_v themselves_o so_o far_o outbid_v by_o their_o part_n than_o they_o have_v such_o a_o one_o in_o a_o high_a account_n and_o prefer_v he_o above_o themselves_o by_o many_o degree_n now_o see_v the_o guise_n of_o this_o man_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o this_o man_n fall_v in_o love_n with_o himself_o and_o be_v lift_v up_o into_o a_o fool_n paradise_n and_o he_o begin_v to_o admire_v at_o himself_o and_o for_o any_o matter_n of_o faith_n he_o do_v not_o question_v it_o what_o a_o man_n of_o such_o wisdom_n and_o such_o understanding_n what_o not_o he_o faith_n he_o make_v no_o question_n he_o can_v miss_v of_o faith_n and_o so_o he_o go_v away_o comfortable_o and_o content_o thus_o you_o see_v the_o faith_n of_o this_o man_n second_o we_o come_v to_o view_v and_o to_o see_v where_o he_o fall_v short_a now_o you_o see_v he_o oh_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v make_v he_o see_v himself_o and_o the_o general_a the_o baseness_n of_o this_o man_n faith_n for_o it_o be_v no_o better_o but_o that_o he_o be_v delude_v that_o he_o can_v see_v it_o it_o discover_v itself_o thus_o it_o be_v breed_v in_o his_o book_n and_o in_o his_o judgement_n and_o go_v no_o further_o and_o it_o be_v far_o from_o save_v faith_n therefore_o that_o the_o indictment_n may_v lie_v clear_a and_o that_o we_o may_v outbid_v he_o in_o his_o book_n learning_n and_o all_o know_v thus_o much_o the_o main_a ground_n of_o this_o man_n mistake_n may_v be_v discover_v thus_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n in_o the_o nature_n of_o faith_n first_o illumination_n second_o application_n as_o we_o term_v it_o illumination_n not_o only_o be_v when_o a_o man_n have_v the_o common_a rumour_n and_o intimation_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n in_o the_o gospel_n and_o know_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o text_n and_o the_o meaning_n of_o the_o scripture_n this_o the_o reprobate_n may_v have_v and_o this_o he_o have_v but_o there_o be_v also_o a_o operation_n of_o the_o spirit_n upon_o the_o affection_n and_o then_o there_o come_v a_o application_n wherein_o the_o soul_n go_v out_o to_o the_o promise_n and_o take_v that_o for_o his_o good_a which_o be_v thereunto_o appoint_v now_o observe_v this_o judicious_a man_n he_o have_v a_o general_a apprehension_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o as_o for_o that_o special_a work_n upon_o the_o will_n and_o to_o enter_v in_o upon_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n and_o to_o have_v the_o sap_n and_o sweet_a of_o these_o and_o to_o go_v out_o to_o christ_n and_o to_o take_v all_o from_o christ_n he_o be_v a_o stranger_n to_o this_o and_o it_o go_v beyond_o all_o his_o book_n learning_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o when_o the_o minister_n come_v to_o handle_v these_o point_n he_o say_v the_o minister_n be_v something_o confuse_v to_o day_n and_o the_o reason_n why_o he_o faith_n so_o it_o be_v because_o he_o do_v not_o understand_v they_o these_o man_n be_v ignorant_a in_o the_o spiritual_a turn_n of_o the_o heart_n john_n 3.8_o 9_o when_o christ_n come_v to_o teach_v nicodemus_n he_o be_v at_o a_o loss_n and_o think_v that_o christ_n speak_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o father_n to_o rest_v upon_o his_o free_a grace_n in_o christ_n and_o he_o do_v not_o make_v a_o right_a choice_n of_o christ_n for_o if_o he_o have_v see_v a_o absolute_a need_n of_o christ_n than_o he_o will_v have_v prize_v christ_n more_o than_o all_o part_n and_o gift_n because_o he_o have_v get_v christ_n which_o be_v better_a than_o all_o his_o ability_n but_o he_o have_v make_v a_o match_n with_o his_o service_n and_o ability_n and_o have_v only_o trade_v with_o christ_n he_o fail_v in_o all_o these_o but_o the_o main_a wound_n of_o this_o whether_o thou_o have_v so_o much_o prosperity_n and_o so_o much_o good_a and_o grace_n or_o no_o it_o skill_v not_o it_o be_v enough_o that_o thou_o be_v elect_v to_o eternal_a happiness_n now_o you_o see_v how_o to_o manage_v and_o improve_v the_o promise_n aright_o for_o your_o best_a advantage_n and_o to_o expect_v from_o the_o promise_n that_o which_o it_o will_v yield_v the_o second_o particular_a in_o this_o three_o rule_n of_o live_v by_o faith_n be_v this_o how_o to_o take_v and_o how_o to_o enjoy_v the_o sap_n and_o sweet_a of_o the_o promise_n and_o to_o live_v by_o it_o when_o the_o husbandman_n have_v sow_v his_o ground_n and_o his_o fruit_n be_v ripe_a and_o he_o have_v reap_v it_o than_o he_o must_v gather_v in_o his_o come_n that_o he_o may_v live_v upon_o it_o so_o let_v we_o gather_v in_o the_o promise_n when_o we_o see_v the_o best_a advantage_n now_o let_v we_o take_v the_o gain_n and_o live_v by_o it_o and_o that_o comfortable_o too_o in_o the_o proof_n of_o god_n goodness_n therein_o for_o this_o end_n let_v i_o suggest_v these_o five_o rule_n or_o direction_n direction_n 1_o first_o thou_o see_v what_o god_n be_v in_o the_o promise_n and_o thou_o expect_v no_o more_o than_o god_n be_v there_o then_o eye_n that_o particular_a good_a in_o the_o promise_n which_o thou_o stand_v in_o most_o need_n of_o eye_n that_o good_a in_o christ_n and_o in_o the_o promise_n and_o then_o set_v god_n power_n and_o faithfulness_n a-work_o to_o bring_v that_o good_a and_o his_o wisdom_n to_o contrive_v it_o as_o for_o instance_n i_o be_o in_o persecution_n and_o either_o i_o will_v have_v deliverance_n and_o safety_n that_o i_o may_v not_o be_v imprison_v or_o else_o comfort_n and_o refreshment_n if_o the_o lord_n carry_v i_o thither_o therefore_o i_o will_v see_v all_o this_o in_o the_o promise_n still_o reserve_v the_o condition_n before_o mention_v if_o thou_o be_v in_o prison_n eye_n liberty_n and_o preservation_n in_o christ_n he_o that_o be_v the_o great_a deliverer_n of_o his_o people_n and_o carry_v his_o people_n in_o his_o hand_n and_o then_o set_v god_n power_n and_o faithfulness_n a-work_o that_o can_v do_v it_o and_o his_o wisdom_n that_o can_v contrive_v it_o for_o thy_o good_a that_o which_o thou_o see_v and_o need_v in_o the_o promise_n that_o the_o power_n &_o wisdom_n of_o god_n may_v comunicate_v to_o thy_o soul_n this_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o that_o place_n psalm_n 37.5_o commit_v thy_o way_n unto_o the_o lord_n trust_v in_o he_o and_o he_o shall_v bring_v it_o to_o pass_v root_n thyself_o and_o lay_v all_o thy_o in_o thy_o ear_n roll_n it_o upon_o the_o lord_n that_o be_v thus_o the_o weight_n of_o a_o man_n occasion_n lie_v especial_o in_o three_o thing_n which_o a_o man_n must_v hurl_v off_o himself_o and_o lay_v upon_o the_o lord_n either_o a_o man_n shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o know_v what_o he_o shall_v do_v or_o what_o he_o be_v command_v or_o else_o second_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o do_v what_o god_n command_v and_o he_o know_v or_o else_o three_o he_o shall_v not_o find_v success_n in_o what_o he_o do_v it_o be_v not_o a_o trouble_n to_o do_v what_o we_o can_v or_o to_o employ_v
