honesty_n and_o moral_a virtue_n be_v not_o all_o take_v from_o they_o in_o hell_n 8.18_o according_a to_o that_o from_o he_o that_o have_v not_o shall_v be_v take_v away_o even_o that_o which_o he_o have_v this_o be_v the_o judgement_n of_o divine_n general_o but_o because_o it_o be_v questionable_a and_o much_o may_v be_v say_v against_o it_o i_o will_v let_v that_o pass_v but_o certain_o they_o shall_v have_v none_o of_o the_o glorious_a perfection_n of_o the_o saint_n either_o in_o soul_n or_o body_n there_o will_v be_v a_o great_a difference_n between_o these_o wretch_n and_o the_o glorify_a christian_a then_o there_o be_v betwixt_o a_o toad_n under_o a_o sill_z and_o the_o sun_n in_o the_o firmament_n the_o rich_a man_n purple_a robe_n and_o delicious_a fare_n do_v not_o so_o exalt_v he_o above_o lazarus_n at_o his_o door_n in_o scab_n nor_o make_v the_o difference_n between_o they_o so_o wide_o as_o it_o be_v now_o make_v on_o the_o contrary_a in_o their_o vast_a separation_n 4._o sect_n iv_o second_o but_o the_o great_a loss_n of_o the_o damn_a will_v be_v their_o loss_n of_o god_n they_o shall_v have_v no_o comfortable_a relation_n to_o he_o nor_o any_o of_o way_n so_o god_n will_v abhor_v to_o retain_v they_o in_o his_o household_n or_o to_o give_v they_o entertainment_n in_o his_o fellowship_n and_o glory_n he_o will_v never_o admit_v they_o to_o the_o inheritance_n of_o his_o saint_n nor_o endure_v they_o to_o stand_v among_o they_o in_o his_o presence_n but_o bid_v they_o depart_v from_o i_o you_o worker_n of_o iniquity_n i_o know_v you_o not_o sincere_a believe_a saint_n the_o swearer_n the_o drunkard_n the_o whoremaster_n the_o worldling_n can_v scornful_o say_v to_o the_o people_n of_o god_n what_o be_v not_o god_n our_o father_n as_o well_o as_o you_o do_v he_o not_o love_v we_o as_o well_o as_o you_o will_v he_o save_v none_o but_o a_o few_o holy_a precisian_n o_o but_o when_o that_o time_n be_v come_v when_o the_o case_n must_v their_o negligence_n and_o wickedness_n then_o though_o they_o have_v preach_v or_o wrought_v miracle_n in_o his_o name_n he_o will_v not_o know_v they_o and_o though_o they_o be_v his_o brethren_n or_o sister_n after_o the_o flesh_n yet_o will_v he_o not_o own_v they_o but_o reject_v they_o as_o his_o enemy_n and_o even_o those_o that_o do_v eat_v and_o drink_v in_o his_o presence_n on_o earth_n 7.22_o shall_v be_v cast_v out_o of_o his_o heavenly_a presence_n for_o ever_o and_o those_o that_o in_o his_o name_n do_v cast_v out_o devil_n 25.41_o shall_v yet_o at_o his_o command_n be_v when_o they_o feed_v upon_o their_o forbid_a pleasure_n may_v cry_v out_o with_o the_o son_n of_o the_o prophet_n 4.40_o there_o be_v death_n in_o the_o pot_n so_o when_o the_o saint_n do_v but_o taste_v of_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n 30.5_o they_o cry_v out_o with_o david_n in_o his_o favour_n be_v life_n nay_o though_o life_n be_v natural_o most_o dear_a to_o all_o man_n 63.3_o yet_o they_o transport_v knowledge_n those_o ravish_a view_n of_o his_o glorious_a face_n the_o unconceivable_a pleasure_n of_o love_a god_n the_o apprehension_n of_o his_o infinite_a love_n to_o we_o the_o constant_a joy_n which_o his_o saint_n be_v take_v up_o with_o and_o the_o river_n of_o consolation_n wherewith_o he_o do_v satisfy_v they_o be_v it_o nothing_o to_o lose_v all_o this_o the_o employment_n of_o a_o king_n in_o rule_v a_o kingdom_n do_v not_o so_o far_o exceed_v the_o employment_n of_o the_o vile_a scullion_n or_o slave_n as_o this_o heavenly_a employment_n exceed_v he_o these_o rebellious_a sinner_n his_o lose_a tear_n will_v cost_v they_o blood_n his_o lose_a sigh_n will_v cost_v they_o eternal_a groan_n and_o his_o lose_a exhortation_n will_v cause_v their_o eternal_a lamentation_n for_o christ_n have_v say_v it_o that_o if_o any_o city_n or_o people_n receive_v not_o or_o welcome_v not_o the_o gospel_n 15.16_o the_o very_a dust_n of_o the_o messenger_n foot_n who_o lose_v his_o travail_n to_o bring_v they_o that_o glad_a tiding_n shall_v witness_v against_o they_o much_o more_o than_o his_o great_a pain_n and_o it_o shall_v be_v easy_a for_o sodom_n be_v damnation_n worth_a all_o my_o cost_n and_o pain_n be_v it_o not_o enough_o that_o i_o perish_v through_o my_o negligence_n and_o that_o i_o sit_v still_o while_o satan_n play_v his_o game_n but_o i_o must_v seek_v so_o diligent_o for_o my_o own_o perdiâ—tion_n may_v i_o not_o have_v be_v damn_v on_o free-cost_n but_o i_o must_v purchase_v it_o so_o dear_o i_o think_v i_o can_v have_v often_o and_o seek_v he_o as_o painful_o o_o how_o happy_a have_v i_o now_o be_v but_o just_o do_v i_o suffer_v the_o flame_n of_o hell_n who_o will_v rather_o rather_o buy_v they_o so_o dear_a then_o have_v heaven_n on_o free_a cost_n when_o it_o be_v purchase_v to_o my_o hand_n thus_o i_o have_v show_v you_o some_o of_o those_o thought_n which_o will_v aggravate_v the_o misery_n of_o these_o wretch_n for_o ever_o o_o that_o god_n will_v persuade_v thou_o who_o read_v these_o word_n to_o take_v up_o these_o thought_n now_o seasonable_o and_o sober_o for_o the_o prevent_n of_o that_o unconceivable_a calamity_n that_o so_o thou_o may_v not_o be_v force_v in_o despite_n of_o thou_o to_o take_v they_o up_o in_o hell_n as_o thy_o own_o tormentor_n it_o may_v be_v some_o of_o these_o harden_a wretch_n will_v jest_v at_o all_o this_o and_o say_v how_o know_v you_o what_o thought_n the_o damn_a in_o hell_n will_v have_v ans._n first_o why_o read_v but_o the_o 16_o of_o luke_n and_o you_o shall_v there_o find_v some_o of_o their_o thought_n mention_v second_o i_o know_v their_o understanding_n will_v not_o be_v take_v from_o they_o nor_o their_o conscience_n nor_o passion_n as_o the_o joy_n of_o heaven_n be_v chief_o enjoy_v by_o the_o rational_a soul_n in_o its_o rational_a act_n so_o also_o must_v the_o pain_n of_o hell_n be_v suffer_v as_o they_o will_v be_v man_n still_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o self-examination_n to_o be_v constant_a in_o that_o excellent_a duty_n of_o meditation_n to_o be_v heavenly_a mind_v to_o watch_v constant_o over_o his_o heart_n and_o word_n and_o way_n to_o deny_v his_o bodily_a sense_n their_o delight_n to_o mortify_v the_o flesh_n and_o not_o make_v provision_n for_o it_o to_o fulfil_v its_o lust_n to_o love_v and_o hearty_o forgive_v a_o enemy_n to_o prefer_v his_o brethren_n hearty_o before_o himself_o and_o to_o think_v mean_o of_o his_o own_o gift_n and_o worth_a and_o to_o take_v it_o well_o
of_o other_o that_o think_v so_o too_o and_o to_o love_v they_o that_o have_v low_a thought_n of_o he_o as_o well_o as_o those_o that_o have_v high_a to_o bear_v easy_o the_o injury_n or_o undervalue_a word_n of_o other_o against_o he_o to_o lay_v all_o that_o he_o have_v at_o the_o foot_n of_o christ_n and_o to_o prefer_v his_o service_n and_o favor_n before_o all_o to_o prepare_v to_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n with_o joy_n but_o it_o be_v only_o into_o the_o surface_n of_o his_o soul_n he_o never_o give_v the_o seed_n any_o depth_n of_o earth_n it_o change_v his_o opinion_n and_o he_o thereupon_o engage_v for_o religion_n as_o the_o right_a way_n and_o side_n with_o it_o as_o a_o party_n in_o a_o faction_n but_o it_o never_o melt_v and_o new_a mould_v his_o heart_n nor_o set_v up_o christ_n there_o in_o full_a power_n and_o authority_n but_o as_o his_o religion_n lie_v most_o in_o his_o opinion_n so_o he_o usual_o run_v from_o opinion_n to_o opinion_n and_o be_v carry_v up_o and_o down_o with_o every_o wind_n of_o doctrine_n by_o the_o sleight_n of_o man_n and_o cunning_a craftiness_n whereby_o they_o lie_v in_o weight_n to_o deceive_v and_o as_o a_o child_n many_o other_o sort_n of_o lazy_a hypocrite_n there_o be_v who_o though_o they_o will_v trudge_v on_o with_o you_o in_o the_o easy_a outside_n of_o religion_n yet_o will_v never_o be_v at_o the_o over_o a_o few_o formal_a word_n which_o they_o have_v get_v on_o their_o tongue_n end_n as_o if_o they_o come_v on_o purpose_n to_o make_v a_o jest_n of_o prayer_n and_o to_o mock_v god_n and_o their_o own_o soul_n if_o they_o be_v in_o distress_n or_o want_v any_o thing_n for_o their_o body_n they_o want_v no_o word_n to_o make_v know_v their_o mind_n but_o to_o a_o physician_n when_o they_o be_v sick_a to_o a_o gripe_a landlord_n when_o they_o be_v oppress_v to_o a_o wealthy_a friend_n when_o they_o be_v in_o want_n they_o can_v lay_v open_a their_o case_n in_o sad_a complaint_n and_o have_v word_n at_o will_n to_o press_v home_o their_o request_n yea_o every_o beggar_n at_o their_o door_n can_v crave_v relief_n and_o make_v it_o their_o daily_a practice_n and_o hold_v on_o with_o importunity_n and_o take_v no_o denial_n necessity_n fill_v their_o mouth_n with_o word_n and_o teach_v they_o the_o most_o natural_a prevail_a rhetoric_n these_o beggar_n will_v rise_v up_o judgement_n against_o they_o and_o condemn_v they_o doubtless_o if_o they_o feel_v but_o the_o misery_n and_o necessity_n of_o their_o soul_n they_o will_v be_v as_o forward_o to_o beg_v relief_n of_o god_n and_o as_o frequent_v as_o fervent_a as_o importunate_a and_o as_o constant_a till_o they_o be_v past_o their_o strait_n but_o alas_o he_o that_o only_o read_v in_o a_o book_n that_o he_o be_v miserable_a and_o what_o his_o soul_n stand_v in_o need_n of_o but_o never_o feel_v himself_o miserable_a nor_o feel_v particular_o his_o several_a want_n no_o wonder_n if_o he_o must_v also_o fetch_v his_o prayer_n from_o his_o book_n only_o or_o at_o further_a from_o the_o strength_n of_o his_o invention_n or_o memory_n solomon_n request_n to_o god_n be_v that_o what_o prayer_n or_o supplication_n soever_o shall_v be_v make_v by_o any_o man_n or_o by_o all_o the_o people_n when_o every_o man_n shall_v know_v his_o own_o sore_a and_o his_o own_o grief_n and_o shall_v spread_v forth_o his_o hand_n before_o god_n that_o god_n will_v then_o hear_v and_o forgive_v etc._n etc._n 2_o chron._n 6.29_o 30._o if_o these_o man_n do_v thus_o know_v and_o feel_v every_o one_o the_o up_o but_o common_a and_o outside_n request_v yea_o their_o cold_a and_o heartless_a prayer_n do_v invite_v god_n to_o a_o flat_a denial_n for_o among_o man_n it_o be_v take_v for_o grant_v that_o he_o who_o ask_v but_o slight_o &_o seldom_o care_v not_o much_o for_o that_o he_o ask_v do_v not_o these_o man_n judge_v themselves_o unworthy_a of_o heaven_n who_o think_v it_o not_o worth_a their_o more_o constant_a and_o earnest_a request_n if_o it_o be_v not_o worth_a ask_n for_o it_o be_v worth_a nothing_o and_o yet_o if_o you_o shall_v go_v from_o house_n to_o house_n through_o town_n and_o to_o sanctify_v the_o lord_n day_n in_o holy_a exercise_n and_o to_o spend_v it_o whole_o in_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o repeat_v it_o with_o their_o family_n and_o prayer_n and_o meditation_n etc._n etc._n and_o to_o forbear_v all_o their_o worldly_a thought_n and_o speech_n and_o what_o a_o tedious_a life_n do_v they_o take_v this_o to_o be_v and_o how_o long_o may_v you_o preach_v to_o they_o before_o they_o will_v be_v bring_v to_o it_o as_o if_o they_o think_v that_o heaven_n be_v not_o worth_a all_o this_o ado_n christ_n have_v be_v plead_v with_o england_n these_o fourscore_o year_n
