as_o love_v therefore_o it_o be_v certain_a there_o shall_v wrath_n come_v against_o all_o ungodliness_n and_o unrighteousness_n of_o man_n observable_a second_o what_o kind_n of_o wrath_n be_v this_o in_o this_o wrath_n you_o shall_v observe_v three_o thing_n first_o there_o be_v a_o treasure_n of_o this_o wrath_n rom._n 2.5_o treasure_n thou_o according_a to_o the_o hardness_n of_o thy_o heart_n that_o can_v repent_v treasure_v up_o wrath_n now_o in_o a_o treasure_n you_o shall_v find_v three_o thing_n first_o it_o be_v a_o heap_n and_o there_o be_v still_o a_o addition_n thereto_o a_o man_n grow_v rich_a and_o rich_a save_v shilling_n and_o penny_n and_o they_o still_o add_v to_o the_o heap_n so_o god_n add_v to_o the_o heap_n of_o his_o wrath_n as_o man_n add_v sin_n he_o add_v drop_n to_o his_o viol_n and_o when_o the_o measure_n of_o our_o sin_n be_v full_a than_o the_o viol_n of_o his_o wrath_n be_v full_a it_o be_v still_o increase_v let_v not_o a_o man_n think_v that_o when_o he_o be_v over_o the_o shoe_n he_o can_v go_v no_o further_o for_o wrath_n receive_v addition_n second_o treasure_n be_v close_o and_o cover_v there_o be_v no_o use_n of_o they_o for_o the_o present_a it_o be_v therefore_o say_v wrath_n be_v â—owne_n for_o the_o wicked_a as_o joy_n be_v sow_v for_o the_o righteous_a it_o lie_v under_o the_o ground_n for_o a_o time_n therefore_o do_v not_o say_v god_n be_v slack_a because_o you_o find_v not_o his_o wrath_n present_o pour_v forth_o it_o be_v not_o slackness_n but_o patience_n and_o if_o you_o do_v of_o negligence_n sin_n and_o god_n mark_n it_o not_o but_o be_v patient_a towards_o you_o and_o suffer_v you_o know_v that_o he_o will_v not_o suffer_v that_o patience_n of_o he_o to_o be_v abuse_v but_o for_o every_o hour_n that_o you_o spend_v after_o the_o commission_n of_o a_o sin_n without_o return_v to_o god_n you_o shall_v fare_v the_o worse_o revel_v 2.20_o i_o give_v her_o space_n to_o repent_v and_o she_o do_v not_o what_o then_o therefore_o i_o will_v cast_v she_o into_o great_a tribulation_n so_o that_o as_o god_n be_v angry_a and_o as_o his_o wrath_n increase_v so_o it_o lie_v hide_v for_o a_o time_n three_o there_o be_v a_o expense_n of_o treasure_n in_o time_n of_o need_n they_o bring_v they_o forth_o and_o use_v they_o so_o do_v god_n partly_o in_o this_o life_n when_o he_o shall_v smite_v a_o man_n with_o destruction_n that_o shall_v quite_o sweep_v he_o away_o as_o he_o do_v saul_n and_o judas_n partly_o and_o special_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v which_o be_v call_v the_o declaration_n of_o the_o just_a judgement_n of_o god_n that_o shall_v then_o be_v declare_v which_o be_v now_o for_o a_o time_n hide_v second_o it_o as_o there_o be_v a_o treasure_n of_o his_o wrath_n so_o there_o be_v a_o power_n of_o his_o wrath_n psal._n 90.11_o who_o know_v the_o power_n of_o thy_o anger_n that_o be_v it_o be_v not_o a_o wrath_n like_o the_o wrath_n of_o man_n but_o a_o wrath_n that_o have_v much_o power_n it_o it_o so_o that_o look_v how_o much_o god_n be_v strong_a than_o man_n so_o much_o do_v his_o wrath_n exceed_v the_o wrath_n of_o man_n god_n show_v all_o his_o power_n in_o execute_v his_o justice_n on_o the_o wicked_a therefore_o it_o be_v say_v rom._n 9.22_o what_o if_o god_n willing_a to_o show_v his_o wrath_n and_o to_o make_v his_o power_n know_v endure_v with_o much_o long-suffering_a the_o vessel_n of_o wrath_n fit_v to_o destruction_n that_o be_v he_o will_v show_v his_o mighty_a power_n in_o punish_v they_o as_o he_o show_v the_o great_a riches_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o mercy_n on_o the_o saint_n god_n be_v know_v by_o execute_v judgement_n and_o the_o greatness_n of_o god_n be_v know_v by_o the_o greatness_n of_o the_o punishment_n inflict_v and_o you_o shall_v know_v he_o to_o be_v a_o almighty_a god_n aswell_o in_o punishment_n as_o in_o mercy_n there_o be_v a_o transcendent_a power_n exercise_v in_o one_o aswell_o as_o in_o the_o other_o therefore_o it_o be_v say_v who_o know_v the_o power_n of_o his_o wrath_n you_o know_v the_o wrath_n of_o a_o king_n be_v great_a because_o he_o be_v powerful_a and_o how_o much_o the_o power_n of_o god_n exceed_v the_o power_n of_o a_o king_n so_o much_o his_o wrath_n exceed_v the_o wrath_n of_o a_o king_n it_o be_v therefore_o compare_v to_o a_o consume_a fire_n that_o devour_v all_o to_o the_o wind_n that_o break_v the_o rock_n in_o sunder_o and_o to_o a_o overflow_a river_n that_o carry_v all_o away_o with_o it_o consider_v god_n therefore_o in_o the_o greatness_n of_o his_o power_n for_o such_o be_v he_o in_o his_o wrath_n it_o three_o consider_v the_o suddenness_n of_o it_o it_o come_v sudden_o on_o man_n and_o that_o make_v it_o the_o more_o fearful_a if_o god_n give_v warning_n it_o be_v another_o case_n but_o he_o surprise_v man_n before_o they_o be_v aware_a it_o be_v true_a that_o damnation_n sleep_v not_o but_o travel_n as_o fast_o as_o thyself_o and_o will_v meet_v with_o thou_o at_o thy_o journey_n end_v but_o man_n know_v it_o not_o therefore_o when_o you_o see_v this_o to_o be_v your_o case_n what_o make_v you_o secure_a you_o feel_v it_o not_o you_o have_v no_o sense_n of_o evil_a you_o live_v by_o sense_n and_o not_o by_o faith_n but_o consider_v wrath_n come_v
therefore_o since_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n shall_v in_o such_o a_o manner_n be_v reveal_v against_o such_o as_o withhold_v the_o truth_n in_o unrighteousness_n you_o need_v no_o other_o argument_n to_o show_v that_o the_o sin_n be_v great_a again_o one_o evidence_n more_o be_v in_o this_o very_a chapter_n that_o be_v from_o the_o kind_n of_o punishment_n for_o punishment_n you_o know_v where_o the_o judge_n be_v just_a be_v according_a to_o the_o measure_n of_o the_o sin_n now_o mark_v god_n punish_v this_o with_o give_v they_o up_o to_o a_o reprobate_a sense_n for_o this_o cause_n say_v the_o apostle_n rom._n 1.26_o god_n give_v they_o up_o unto_o vile_a affection_n and_o afterward_o in_o the_o eight_o and_o twenty_o verse_n as_o they_o regard_v not_o to_o know_v god_n even_o so_o or_o therefore_o god_n deliver_v they_o up_o to_o a_o reprobate_a mind_n that_o be_v a_o mind_n without_o knowledge_n a_o injudicious_a mind_n that_o can_v judge_v of_o thing_n and_o look_v in_o all_o the_o book_n of_o god_n among_o all_o the_o army_n of_o sorrow_n there_o be_v not_o any_o like_o this_o to_o be_v give_v up_o to_o vile_a affection_n to_o lust_n to_o a_o injudicious_a mind_n in_o matter_n of_o god_n and_o thing_n belong_v to_o their_o salvation_n this_o punishment_n show_v the_o greatness_n of_o the_o sin_n but_o man_n slight_a this_o as_o it_o be_v the_o great_a judgement_n so_o it_o be_v the_o least_o feel_v man_n lie_v at_o rest_n they_o be_v cast_v into_o a_o dead_a sleep_n but_o it_o be_v like_o the_o sleep_n of_o they_o that_o have_v crazy_a brain_n they_o wake_v in_o a_o frenzy_n so_o these_o shall_v wake_v in_o a_o horrible_a astonishment_n their_o sleep_n be_v such_o a_o calm_a as_o will_v end_v in_o a_o tempest_n and_o such_o a_o tempest_n as_o shall_v never_o be_v blow_v over_o therefore_o let_v no_o man_n bless_v himself_o in_o this_o i_o feel_v none_o of_o these_o thing_n for_o thou_o have_v the_o great_a judgement_n on_o thou_o when_o thou_o feel_v it_o least_o and_o so_o much_o for_o the_o three_o thing_n i_o propound_v to_o you_o what_o this_o truth_n be_v how_o it_o be_v withheld_a and_o the_o greatness_n of_o the_o sin_n now_o we_o will_v come_v to_o make_v use_n of_o it_o and_o the_o first_o use_n we_o be_v to_o make_v of_o it_o 1_o be_v that_o which_o be_v the_o main_a scope_n of_o the_o apostle_n here_o and_o that_o for_o which_o we_o pitch_v on_o these_o word_n and_o that_o be_v to_o humble_v we_o to_o learn_v to_o know_v ourselves_o to_o know_v in_o what_o condition_n we_o be_v for_o the_o truth_n be_v reveal_v to_o we_o but_o we_o withhold_v it_o in_o unrighteousness_n this_o truth_n that_o shall_v rule_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n that_o shall_v be_v as_o the_o supreme_a governor_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o which_o it_o may_v be_v say_v as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o the_o peace_n of_o god_n let_v it_o rule_v in_o your_o soul_n that_o where_o by_o man_n shall_v be_v act_v be_v by_o man_n imprison_v therefore_o rom._n 2.9_o the_o apostle_n denounce_v tribulation_n and_o anguish_n upon_o every_o one_o that_o disobeye_n the_o truth_n intimate_v that_o truth_n be_v our_o king_n that_o shall_v govern_v and_o rule_v in_o our_o heart_n now_o when_o man_n disobey_v it_o nay_o go_v further_o imprison_v this_o truth_n it_o be_v as_o when_o man_n imprison_v their_o lawful_a king_n or_o servant_n their_o master_n and_o they_o run_v riot_n and_o at_o liberty_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n and_o this_o be_v our_o case_n we_o do_v with_o it_o as_o child_n do_v with_o their_o master_n we_o desire_v to_o be_v rid_v of_o it_o because_o it_o watch_v over_o we_o and_o so_o we_o grow_v enemy_n to_o it_o and_o this_o be_v no_o small_a sin_n for_o if_o we_o consider_v whence_o this_o come_v who_o put_v it_o into_o our_o heart_n it_o will_v appear_v heinous_a by_o the_o law_n of_o man_n it_o be_v death_n to_o kill_v child_n that_o be_v beget_v by_o man_n but_o this_o truth_n be_v beget_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n it_o be_v put_v in_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o to_o extinguish_v this_o truth_n not_o to_o suffer_v it_o to_o live_v not_o to_o nourish_v it_o not_o to_o bring_v it_o forth_o be_v the_o great_a sin_n of_o all_o even_o the_o heathen_a shall_v rise_v in_o judgement_n against_o christian_n for_o this_o who_o maintain_v the_o vestal_a fire_n because_o they_o conceive_v it_o to_o come_v from_o heaven_n they_o for_o that_o cause_n never_o suffer_v it_o to_o go_v out_o but_o this_o truth_n be_v a_o fire_n which_o come_v from_o heaven_n a_o spark_n put_v into_o the_o breast_n of_o man_n to_o guide_v their_o foot_n into_o the_o way_n of_o peace_n when_o man_n shall_v extinguish_v this_o truth_n let_v it_o go_v out_o and_o not_o maintain_v it_o the_o heathen_a shall_v rise_v against_o they_o in_o judgement_n as_o the_o man_n of_o niniveh_n shall_v rise_v up_o against_o the_o man_n of_o that_o generation_n among_o who_o christ_n live_v we_o be_v wont_a to_o take_v care_n of_o precious_a thing_n consider_v the_o preciousness_n of_o this_o truth_n what_o be_v precious_a we_o will_v not_o be_v willing_a to_o destroy_v as_o the_o prophet_n say_v of_o the_o bunch_n of_o grape_n destroy_v it_o not_o for_o there_o be_v a_o blessing_n in_o it_o and_o what_o do_v you_o think_v of_o this_o truth_n be_v it_o not_o a_o precious_a thing_n yea_o it_o be_v the_o chief_a thing_n in_o a_o man_n in_o a_o ship_n a_o wise_a man_n will_v have_v a_o eye_n to_o the_o rudder_n for_o that_o turn_v all_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o body_n of_o the_o ship_n of_o all_o thing_n in_o ourselves_o we_o look_v to_o our_o eye_n the_o guide_n of_o the_o body_n so_o we_o shall_v learn_v to_o watch_v and_o be_v tender_a over_o this_o truth_n as_o over_o our_o eye_n for_o the_o one_o be_v the_o light_n but_o of_o this_o life_n the_o other_o be_v the_o light_n of_o the_o soul_n to_o eternal_a life_n in_o micah_n 3.5_o it_o be_v threaten_v as_o a_o great_a judgement_n when_o god_n shall_v turn_v their_o vision_n into_o night_n and_o their_o divination_n into_o darkness_n when_o the_o sun_n shall_v go_v down_o on_o their_o prophet_n and_o the_o day_n shall_v be_v dark_a on_o they_o and_o will_v you_o bring_v this_o judgement_n on_o yourselves_o they_o that_o be_v guilty_a of_o this_o that_o have_v not_o use_v this_o truth_n but_o imprison_v it_o and_o labour_v as_o much_o as_o they_o can_v to_o cause_v the_o sun_n to_o go_v down_o and_o rise_v no_o more_o to_o turn_v the_o day_n into_o night_n let_v they_o consider_v what_o the_o sin_n be_v when_o you_o read_v the_o story_n of_o the_o king_n and_o hear_v they_o say_v to_o the_o prophet_n prophesy_v not_o imprison_v they_o as_o ahab_n do_v micaiah_n and_o slay_v they_o as_o joash_n do_v zecharial_a you_o will_v little_o think_v you_o be_v guilty_a of_o the_o same_o sin_n but_o when_o this_o truth_n come_v as_o a_o prophet_n from_o god_n and_o tell_v you_o such_o and_o such_o thing_n ought_v to_o be_v do_v and_o such_o and_o such_o evil_n ought_v to_o be_v abstain_v from_o and_o you_o shall_v desire_v it_o to_o be_v silent_a and_o shall_v say_v prophesy_v not_o when_o you_o shall_v not_o suffer_v it_o to_o speak_v free_o i_o say_v your_o sin_n shall_v be_v as_o great_a as_o they_o therefore_o learn_v to_o consider_v of_o it_o and_o be_v humble_v for_o it_o man_n be_v wont_a to_o think_v their_o condition_n better_o because_o they_o know_v more_o than_o other_o but_o it_o be_v quite_o contrary_a for_o nothing_o aggravate_v sin_n more_o than_o that_o it_o be_v a_o extreme_a folly_n in_o man_n when_o they_o can_v deny_v the_o fact_n they_o slight_a the_o fault_n and_o will_v not_o acknowledge_v it_o it_o be_v adam_n fault_n when_o god_n come_v towards_o he_o he_o flee_v and_o hide_v his_o sin_n and_o it_o be_v the_o fault_n of_o all_o adam_n posterity_n but_o let_v man_n know_v that_o the_o quite_o contrary_a way_n be_v the_o way_n to_o salvation_n it_o be_v not_o with_o god_n as_o it_o be_v with_o man_n among_o who_o confession_n make_v way_n for_o condemnation_n for_o with_o god_n confession_n be_v the_o way_n to_o salvation_n therefore_o be_v not_o unwilling_a to_o examine_v yourselves_o consider_v how_o much_o you_o have_v know_v what_o truth_n have_v be_v reveal_v to_o you_o do_v this_o with_o one_o eye_n with_o another_o eye_n look_v on_o your_o life_n and_o see_v how_o short_a your_o practice_n have_v be_v of_o your_o knowledge_n come_v willing_o and_o if_o you_o confess_v you_o shall_v be_v forgive_v this_o will_v drive_v you_o out_o of_o yourselves_o it_o will_v be_v your_o schoolmaster_n to_o bring_v you_o to_o christ._n they_o that_o carry_v this_o
in_o the_o world_n what_o outward_a employment_n soever_o we_o exercise_v ourselves_o in_o yet_o our_o main_a business_n be_v in_o heaven_n we_o be_v ready_a on_o all_o occasion_n to_o look_v to_o the_o face_n of_o the_o ruler_n of_o the_o physician_n of_o man_n and_o creature_n but_o we_o forget_v that_o the_o sway_v of_o the_o balance_n this_o way_n or_o that_o way_n be_v from_o the_o lord_n when_o jacob_n have_v pray_v earnest_o to_o be_v deliver_v from_o esau_n god_n answer_v he_o thou_o have_v prevail_v with_o god_n and_o thou_o shall_v prevail_v with_o man_n so_o whatsoever_o business_n you_o have_v on_o earth_n if_o you_o will_v bring_v your_o enterprise_n to_o pass_v prevail_v with_o god_n and_o you_o shall_v be_v sure_a to_o prevail_v with_o man_n turn_v he_o and_o all_o be_v turn_v with_o he_o for_o all_o depend_v upon_o he_o whatsoever_o be_v do_v on_o earth_n be_v first_o do_v in_o heaven_n and_o conclude_v there_o particular_n and_o then_o we_o feel_v and_o taste_v the_o fruit_n of_o it_o here_o from_o this_o general_n we_o may_v descend_v to_o particular_n and_o from_o hence_o you_o may_v learn_v that_o it_o be_v not_o our_o army_n by_o land_n nor_o our_o navy_n at_o sea_n that_o shall_v secure_v we_o at_o home_n or_o prevail_v abroad_o though_o it_o be_v well_o that_o these_o thing_n be_v do_v and_o therefore_o you_o do_v well_o in_o contribute_v cheerful_o to_o his_o majesty_n for_o the_o maintenance_n thereof_o for_o the_o common_a good_a yet_o still_o remember_v that_o all_o your_o business_n be_v in_o heaven_n and_o that_o you_o must_v trust_v more_o to_o your_o faithful_a prayer_n then_o to_o your_o preparation_n for_o success_n in_o all_o enterprise_n it_o be_v not_o our_o wooden_a wall_n that_o will_v guard_v we_o blessing_n on_o we_o and_o all_o our_o enterprise_n this_o be_v to_o see_v god_n in_o all_o thing_n this_o be_v to_o sanctify_v and_o exalt_v he_o for_o god_n in_o our_o heart_n and_o without_o this_o all_o be_v nothing_o 3_o i_o will_v end_v this_o point_n with_o this_o brief_a direction_n you_o know_v there_o be_v in_o every_o man_n i_o speak_v now_o of_o every_o man_n that_o be_v holy_a thing_n and_o not_o of_o other_o who_o be_v stranger_n from_o god_n the_o flesh_n and_o the_o spirit_n there_o be_v faith_n and_o sense_n and_o one_o of_o these_o two_o every_o man_n set_v on_o work_n to_o take_v a_o view_n of_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v before_o they_o if_o you_o set_v faith_n and_o the_o spirit_n on_o work_n to_o look_v on_o thing_n they_o will_v tell_v you_o it_o matter_n not_o what_o outward_a thing_n be_v what_o the_o creature_n be_v for_o it_o be_v god_n that_o do_v all_o set_v the_o flesh_n on_o work_n set_v sense_n and_o carnal_a reason_n on_o work_n and_o they_o will_v bring_v quite_o contrary_a news_n like_o the_o wicked_a spy_n that_o be_v send_v into_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n who_o when_o they_o do_v but_o cast_v their_o eye_n on_o the_o state_n of_o thing_n there_o they_o be_v first_o discourage_v themselves_o and_o then_o discourage_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o people_n oh_o there_o be_v giant_n and_o wall_n reach_v up_o to_o heaven_n whereas_o the_o good_a spy_n that_o look_v on_o thing_n with_o another_o eye_n bring_v another_o kind_n of_o message_n just_o thus_o it_o be_v with_o we_o in_o send_v out_o our_o spy_n to_o look_v upon_o the_o state_n of_o thing_n before_o we_o if_o we_o send_v forth_o the_o flesh_n sense_n and_o reason_n they_o bring_v report_n of_o terrible_a wall_n and_o cruel_a giant_n their_o power_n be_v so_o great_a their_o force_n so_o strong_a that_o there_o be_v no_o meddle_v with_o they_o but_o send_v faith_n and_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o will_n like_o good_a spy_n look_v on_o thing_n with_o a_o right_a judgement_n and_o indeed_o that_o be_v all_o the_o difference_n between_o a_o holy_a man_n and_o another_o the_o one_o look_n on_o thing_n with_o another_o eye_n he_o see_v a_o vanity_n in_o the_o creature_n which_o the_o other_o do_v not_o he_o see_v a_o all-sufficiency_n in_o god_n which_o the_o other_o can_v and_o therefore_o he_o have_v only_o a_o eye_n to_o the_o lord_n all_o his_o care_n be_v to_o serve_v he_o and_o please_v he_o in_o all_o thing_n so_o he_o have_v no_o ill_a news_n from_o heaven_n he_o care_v for_o nothing_o on_o earth_n the_o other_o care_v not_o how_o matter_n stand_v betwixt_o god_n and_o he_o so_o all_o thing_n be_v well_o below_o so_o his_o mountain_n stand_v strong_a and_o therefore_o that_o we_o may_v judge_v of_o thing_n with_o a_o righteous_a judgement_n we_o must_v be_v careful_a to_o see_v they_o in_o their_o true_a nature_n which_o only_a faith_n and_o the_o spirit_n will_v present_v and_o so_o much_o shall_v serve_v for_o that_o point_n you_o see_v then_o wrath._n that_o it_o be_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n that_o do_v all_o hurt_n and_o the_o favour_n of_o the_o lord_n that_o do_v all_o the_o good_a we_o come_v now_o to_o the_o second_o point_n which_o will_v come_v in_o well_o upon_o the_o former_a that_o it_o be_v sin_n that_o cause_v wrath_n sin_n and_o wrath_n be_v knit_v together_o they_o be_v inseparable_a so_o that_o as_o elisha_n say_v compaâ—â—â—â—n_n when_o jehoram_n send_v a_o messenger_n unto_o he_o to_o take_v away_o his_o life_n when_o he_o be_v sit_v in_o the_o house_n with_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o elder_n shut_v the_o door_n upon_o he_o and_o hold_v he_o fast_o for_o be_v not_o the_o sound_n of_o his_o master_n foot_n behind_o he_o so_o i_o say_v to_o every_o man_n if_o sin_n and_o wrath_n come_v together_o than_o first_o shut_v the_o door_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o messenger_n suffer_v it_o not_o to_o come_v in_o give_v it_o no_o entertainment_n for_o be_v not_o the_o sound_n of_o his_o master_n foot_n behind_o he_o do_v not_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n follow_v and_o shall_v not_o that_o wrath_n take_v away_o our_o head_n as_o elisha_n say_v therefore_o if_o you_o will_v keep_v
