access_n to_o the_o afflict_a conscience_n to_o lay_v these_o two_o ground_n first_o we_o must_v persuade_v the_o person_n humble_v that_o their_o sin_n be_v pardonable_a &_o their_o soul_n curable_a and_o after_o that_o this_o visitation_n be_v not_o so_o much_o a_o sign_n of_o god_n wrath_n and_o anger_n as_o a_o seal_n of_o his_o love_n and_o favour_n in_o that_o it_o be_v not_o either_o blind_a or_o barren_a but_o plentiful_a in_o good_a effect_n and_o fruitful_a in_o godly_a issue_n the_o former_a how_o needful_a it_o be_v the_o experience_n of_o so_o many_o as_o have_v be_v throw_v after_o the_o grief_n become_v more_o grevous_a so_o the_o comfortable_a apply_v of_o god_n promise_n be_v not_o so_o profitable_a for_o every_o one_o that_o be_v humble_v especial_o when_o their_o soul_n be_v rather_o to_o be_v cast_v down_o than_o as_o yet_o to_o be_v raise_v up_o so_o the_o sugar_a consolation_n may_v for_o a_o time_n over-heale_a the_o conscience_n and_o abate_v some_o present_a grief_n but_o so_o as_o afterwards_o the_o smart_n will_v be_v the_o sore_a &_o the_o grief_n may_v grow_v the_o great_a whereof_o ensue_v this_o effect_n that_o comfort_n seem_v to_o cure_v for_o a_o while_n but_o through_o want_n of_o wisdom_n in_o the_o right_n discern_v of_o the_o cause_n we_o minister_v one_o medicine_n for_o another_o and_o so_o for_o want_v of_o skill_n the_o latter_a fit_n grind_v they_o sore_a than_o the_o former_a some_o there_o be_v who_o without_o precept_n and_o practice_n be_v their_o own_a physician_n and_o these_o so_o soon_o as_o the_o fit_n come_v upon_o they_o think_v it_o the_o best_a to_o chastise_v and_o to_o chase_v away_o their_o sorrow_n by_o drink_v at_o tavern_n by_o minstrelsy_n in_o merry_a company_n by_o purge_v melancholy_a in_o physic_n all_o which_o seem_v to_o wear_v away_o the_o pain_n for_o a_o while_n but_o yet_o after_o it_o bit_v more_o deeplye_n when_o the_o burn_a fever_n of_o the_o spirit_n shake_v they_o with_o a_o second_o recourse_n and_o for_o that_o before_o they_o be_v not_o true_o search_v purge_v sear_a and_o lance_v it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o the_o second_o relapse_n be_v more_o dangerous_a than_o the_o first_o to_o come_v to_o our_o purpose_n we_o must_v know_v that_o all_o grief_n be_v either_o confuse_v or_o distinct_a and_o sure_o it_o be_v that_o the_o mind_n be_v appall_v either_o for_o some_o cause_n very_o well_o know_v to_o we_o as_o certain_a or_o for_o something_o unknowen_a to_o we_o and_o uncertain_a to_o they_o which_o be_v trouble_v with_o such_o blind_a grief_n whereof_o they_o can_v see_v no_o reason_n as_o often_o it_o happen_v to_o god_n child_n who_o either_o never_o know_v god_n or_o have_v but_o a_o general_a knowledge_n of_o he_o i_o answer_v that_o as_o i_o deny_v no_o physic_n to_o be_v minister_v if_o it_o in_o part_n proceed_v from_o a_o natural_a cause_n so_o i_o require_v the_o word_n especial_o to_o show_v the_o principal_a and_o original_a cause_n to_o begin_v in_o the_o soul_n and_o this_o i_o do_v the_o rather_o because_o i_o will_v have_v wisdom_n both_o in_o consider_v the_o state_n of_o the_o body_n if_o need_v so_o require_v and_o in_o look_v chief_o to_o the_o soul_n which_o so_o few_o think_v of_o if_o a_o man_n trouble_v in_o conscience_n come_v to_o a_o minister_n it_o may_v be_v he_o will_v look_v all_o to_o the_o soul_n and_o nothing_o all_o to_o the_o body_n if_o he_o come_v to_o a_o physician_n he_o only_o consider_v of_o the_o body_n &_o neglect_v the_o soul_n for_o my_o part_n i_o will_v never_o have_v the_o physician_n counsel_v sever_v nor_o the_o minister_n labour_v neglect_v because_o the_o soul_n and_o body_n dwell_v together_o it_o be_v convenient_a that_o as_o the_o soul_n shall_v be_v cure_v by_o the_o word_n by_o prayer_n and_o by_o fast_v by_o threaten_v or_o by_o comfort_v so_o the_o body_n also_o shall_v be_v bring_v into_o some_o temperature_n by_o physic_n by_o purge_v by_o diet_n by_o restore_v by_o music_n and_o by_o such_o like_a mean_n provyde_v always_o that_o it_o be_v still_o do_v so_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o wisdom_n of_o his_o spirit_n as_o we_o think_v not_o by_o these_o ordinary_a mean_n to_o smother_v or_o smoke_n out_o our_o trouble_n but_o as_o purpose_v to_o use_v they_o as_o preparative_n whereby_o both_o our_o soul_n and_o body_n may_v be_v make_v more_o capable_a of_o the_o spiritual_a mean_n to_o follow_v after_o as_o we_o require_v these_o thing_n to_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o our_o ministry_n in_o such_o a_o perplexity_n so_o i_o will_v wish_v the_o person_n minister_a to_o be_v man_n learned_a and_o of_o sound_n judgement_n wise_a and_o of_o godly_a experience_n meek_a and_o of_o most_o love_a spirit_n for_o when_o the_o trouble_a patient_n shall_v be_v persuade_v of_o our_o knowledge_n and_o discretion_n and_o therewithal_o shall_v perceive_v we_o to_o come_v in_o tender_a and_o love_a affection_n i_o think_v a_o entrance_n be_v in_o a_o manner_n make_v and_o all_o prejudice_n be_v take_v away_o so_o as_o we_o may_v the_o more_o free_o work_v upon_o the_o greeved_a conscience_n first_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o sight_n of_o sin_n as_o to_o some_o cause_n of_o their_o trouble_n herein_o we_o must_v labour_v to_o put_v away_o all_o confusion_n and_o blindness_n of_o sorrow_n endevor_v by_o wisdom_n to_o bring_v the_o part_n wound_v to_o some_o certain_a object_n &_o matter_n of_o their_o trouble_n and_o so_o draw_v out_o of_o they_o the_o confession_n of_o some_o especial_a secret_a and_o several_a sin_n i_o say_v secret_a and_o several_a sin_n because_o i_o know_v how_o many_o through_o a_o palpable_a blindness_n or_o disorder_a discern_v of_o sin_n talk_n nothing_o so_o much_o as_o of_o sin_n and_o yet_o they_o either_o descry_v several_a sin_n or_o they_o will_v not_o be_v bring_v to_o acknowledge_v their_o secret_a sin_n whereof_o the_o one_o proceed_v of_o the_o ignorance_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n the_o other_o of_o self_n love_n which_o make_v we_o loath_a in_o our_o travail_n of_o mind_n to_o shame_v ourselves_o now_o that_o the_o confession_n of_o particular_a sin_n be_v requisite_a it_o may_v appear_v by_o the_o two_o and_o thirty_o psalm_n wherein_o be_v a_o psalm_n of_o instruction_n concern_v the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n the_o prophet_n by_o his_o own_o experience_n teach_v we_o that_o he_o can_v find_v no_o relief_n of_o his_o sickness_n until_o he_o have_v remember_v and_o make_v confession_n of_o his_o sin_n what_o shall_v we_o think_v that_o the_o prophet_n of_o god_n teach_v so_o wonderful_o by_o the_o word_n and_o by_o the_o spirit_n do_v not_o see_v his_o sin_n before_o be_v it_o far_o from_o us._n rather_o let_v we_o know_v that_o he_o have_v not_o several_o and_o perticularlye_o rip_v up_o his_o sin_n before_o the_o lord_n in_o a_o several_a confession_n of_o they_o which_o thing_n the_o lord_n know_v far_o better_o than_o we_o ourselves_o yet_o such_o kind_n of_o sacrifice_n be_v most_o acceptable_a unto_o he_o now_o if_o in_o this_o trouble_n the_o person_n humble_v can_v not_o come_v to_o the_o particular_a sight_n of_o sin_n in_o themselves_o it_o be_v good_a to_o use_v the_o help_n of_o other_o unto_o who_o they_o may_v offer_v their_o heart_n to_o be_v gage_v and_o search_v and_o their_o life_n to_o be_v examine_v more_o deep_o by_o hear_v the_o several_a article_n of_o the_o law_n lay_v open_a before_o they_o whereby_o they_o may_v square_v the_o whole_a course_n of_o their_o action_n for_o as_o we_o say_v before_o the_o gross_a hypocrite_n will_v general_o complain_v of_o sin_n and_o yet_o deal_v with_o they_o in_o particular_a point_n of_o particular_a precept_n &_o prove_v they_o in_o apply_v of_o thing_n to_o be_v do_v or_o undo_v to_o their_o own_o conscience_n and_o we_o shall_v see_v many_o of_o these_o poor_a soul_n toss_v too_o and_o fro_o now_o float_v oftentimes_o to_o bring_v old_a sin_n to_o mind_n when_o we_o not_o true_o repent_v of_o they_o before_o that_o so_o as_o it_o be_v represent_v they_o to_o we_o afresh_o we_o may_v fall_v into_o a_o more_o mislike_v of_o they_o and_o yet_o herein_o be_v not_o all_o to_o mislike_v ourselves_o for_o some_o particulars_n although_o it_o be_v good_a to_o be_v occupy_v about_o some_o special_a sin_n for_o as_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o the_o avoid_n of_o hypocrisy_n to_o see_v some_o general_o so_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o eschew_v the_o deceavablenes_n of_o the_o heart_n ever_o to_o be_v pore_a busy_o in_o one_o particular_a and_o to_o be_v forgetful_a of_o the_o great_a and_o general_a sin_n and_o let_v we_o learn_v by_o the_o particular_n to_o pass_v by_o the_o general_n when_o any_o such_o
know_v also_o god_n can_v cause_v wolf_n lion_n &_o leopard_n to_o dwell_v love_o with_o lamb_n calf_n and_o kid_n and_o that_o that_o be_v unpossible_a to_o man_n be_v possible_a with_o god_n even_o to_o cause_v a_o cable_n to_o go_v through_o a_o needle_n eye_n that_o be_v to_o change_v the_o hard_a hart_n of_o the_o unbeleve_a covetous_a man_n much_o more_o you_o yea_o know_v that_o all_o thing_n be_v possible_a to_o he_o which_o believe_v cry_v then_o i_o believe_v o_o lord_n help_v my_o unbelief_n &_o i_o dare_v promise_v you_o in_o the_o name_n of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o you_o
