scripture_n under_o the_o metaphor_n of_o adultery_n and_o fornication_n do_v often_o signify_v peculiar_o the_o sin_n of_o idolatry_n and_o under_o the_o metaphor_n of_o a_o whore_n or_o a_o harlot_n a_o idolater_n and_o so_o it_o may_v be_v here_o take_v especial_o if_o we_o understand_v also_o in_o the_o follow_a word_n q._n d._n how_o be_v the_o faithful_a city_n become_v a_o harlot_n it_o be_v also_o full_a of_o judgement_n etc._n etc._n for_o the_o prophet_n upbraid_v they_o with_o their_o idolatry_n verse_n 29._o etc._n etc._n but_o as_o by_o the_o metaphor_n of_o fornication_n and_o adultery_n the_o particular_a sin_n of_o idolatry_n be_v often_o understand_v so_o also_o may_v we_o by_o the_o same_o metaphor_n understand_v disobedience_n and_o sin_n against_o god_n in_o general_a their_o unrighteous_a sentence_n to_o they_o to_o who_o it_o do_v not_o belong_v by_o reason_n of_o which_o many_o do_v perish_v not_o only_o through_o grief_n of_o mind_n but_o also_o through_o famine_n and_o hunger_n have_v no_o mean_n leave_v they_o to_o buy_v bread_n to_o sustain_v nature_n 22._o thy_o silver_n be_v become_v dross_n under_o the_o metaphor_n of_o silver_n understand_v shall_v come_v against_o judah_n and_o because_o they_o fear_v the_o power_n of_o the_o assyrian_n and_o think_v that_o jerusalem_n will_v not_o be_v able_a to_o stand_v out_o against_o it_o betake_v themselves_o to_o humane_a policy_n and_o leave_v jerusalem_n think_v to_o comply_v with_o the_o assyrian_n and_o to_o make_v their_o peace_n with_o they_o who_o nevertheless_o fail_v in_o their_o purpose_n and_o be_v destroy_v when_o as_o they_o may_v have_v be_v safe_a if_o they_o have_v never_o stir_v out_o of_o jerusalem_n 16._o therefore_o thus_o say_v the_o lord_n god_n i._o e._n yet_o cap._n 14.32_o yet_o because_o in_o the_o second_o and_o more_o sublime_a sense_n this_o foundation_n be_v interpret_v of_o christ_n 1_o pet._n 2.6_o we_o may_v interpret_v and_o perhaps_o with_o more_o probability_n this_o of_o hezekiah_n who_o as_o in_o other_o thing_n and_o elsewhere_o he_o be_v a_o type_n of_o christ_n so_o may_v he_o be_v in_o this_o and_o here_o and_o hezekiah_n may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v lay_v in_o zion_n for_o a_o foundation_n because_o he_o be_v the_o foundation_n of_o safety_n against_o the_o assyrian_n to_o all_o which_o remain_v in_o jerusalem_n for_o god_n promise_v to_o save_v jerusalem_n and_o all_o that_o keep_v themselves_o within_o she_o for_o his_o sake_n and_o he_o may_v be_v well_o call_v the_o foundation_n of_o that_o safety_n of_o which_o he_o be_v so_o principal_a a_o cause_n by_o a_o metaphor_n a_o stone_n he_n mean_v such_o a_o stone_n which_o use_v to_o be_v lay_v for_o a_o foundation_n of_o a_o building_n which_o be_v great_a and_o durable_a a_o try_a stone_n i._o e._n a_o stone_n try_v and_o find_v fit_a for_o such_o a_o use_n as_o to_o lie_v for_o a_o foundation_n a_o precious_a corner_n stone_n i._o e._n a_o corner_n stone_n or_o chief_a stone_n of_o great_a worth_n and_o hezekiah_n may_v be_v call_v a_o precious_a corner_n stone_n because_o of_o his_o great_a virtue_n in_o the_o hebrew_n dialect_n the_o corner_n signify_v that_o part_n of_o a_o build_n which_o by_o its_o own_o strength_n alone_o sustain_v and_o uphold_v the_o whole_a structure_n hence_o magistrate_n and_o prince_n which_o be_v the_o prop_n and_o upholder_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n be_v call_v the_o corner_n judg._n 20.2_o 1_o sam._n 14.38_o isai_n 19.13_o the_o corner_n stone_n therefore_o in_o the_o hebrew_n phrase_n be_v as_o much_o as_o a_o sure_a foundation-stone_n so_o that_o all_o these_o word_n a_o stone_n a_o try_a stone_n a_o corner_n stone_n signify_v but_o one_o and_o the_o same_o thing_n a_o sure_a foundation_n hezekiah_n may_v be_v call_v a_o sure_a foundation_n because_o as_o a_o sure_a foundation_n can_v easy_o be_v shake_v or_o overthrow_v so_o hezekiah_n can_v not_o be_v shake_v in_o his_o faith_n by_o the_o threat_n of_o the_o assyrian_n nor_o can_v the_o assyrian_n with_o all_o their_o power_n overthrow_v he_o or_o jerusalem_n which_o god_n have_v give_v he_o by_o force_n of_o arms._n he_o that_o believe_v supple_a that_o which_o i_o say_v or_o that_o promise_n which_o the_o lord_n have_v make_v shall_v not_o make_v haste_n shall_v not_o need_v to_o make_v haste_n or_o will_v not_o make_v haste_n supple_a out_o of_o jerusalem_n to_o run_v into_o egypt_n or_o pathros_n or_o cush_n or_o elam_n or_o into_o any_o other_o far_o country_n to_o save_v himself_o as_o many_o which_o believe_v not_o do_v at_o the_o hear_n of_o sennacherib_n come_v against_o judah_n with_o a_o mighty_a army_n nor_o will_v he_o make_v haste_n to_o comply_v with_o the_o assyrian_n and_o make_v his_o peace_n with_o they_o as_o many_o other_o do_v but_o will_v abide_v in_o jerusalem_n and_o shall_v be_v safe_a there_o what_o be_v speak_v here_o of_o hezekiah_n in_o the_o first_o sense_n be_v speak_v of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n in_o the_o second_o and_o more_o sublime_a sense_n as_o appear_v 1_o pet._n 2.6_o and_o rom._n 9.33_o for_o as_o we_o have_v often_o observe_v and_o shall_v often_o observe_v the_o temporal_a deliverance_n of_o the_o jew_n be_v a_o type_n of_o the_o spiritual_a deliverance_n of_o the_o christian_n as_o therefore_o the_o temporal_a deliverance_n of_o the_o jew_n be_v a_o type_n of_o the_o spiritual_a deliverance_n of_o the_o christian_n so_o they_o which_o be_v any_o way_n the_o cause_n of_o the_o temporal_a deliverance_n of_o the_o jew_n be_v a_o type_n of_o christ_n
