the_o imperial_a crown_n of_o this_o realm_n to_o conclude_v the_o cause_n both_o of_o my_o petition_n and_o appeal_v to_o his_o majesty_n be_v this_o that_o usurper_n and_o innovator_n of_o religion_n and_o of_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n be_v occasionnal_o and_o just_o charge_v by_o i_o in_o my_o sermon_n as_o here_o your_o honour_n may_v see_v may_v be_v inquire_v on_o &_o call_v to_o a_o strict_a account_n and_o the_o rather_o when_o now_o they_o show_v by_o their_o recrimination_n in_o the_o article_n object_v against_o i_o how_o ready_a they_o be_v open_o upon_o the_o heavy_o the_o chariot_n be_v drive_v and_o can_v we_o wonder_v but_o that_o god_n shall_v blast_v all_o our_o beauty_n and_o glory_n if_o man_n of_o beliall_a of_o that_o lawless_a one_o be_v suffer_v to_o make_v havoc_n of_o christ_n kingdom_n to_o destroy_v the_o true_a religion_n and_o to_o set_v up_o again_o popish_a superstition_n and_o idolatry_n over_o the_o land_n certain_o if_o such_o be_v suffer_v to_o go_v on_o thus_o as_o they_o do_v god_n must_v needs_o destroy_v we_o therefore_o my_o honourable_a lord_n give_v i_o leave_v again_o and_o again_o to_o press_v this_o upon_o your_o honour_n as_o a_o main_n service_n which_o you_o owe_v both_o to_o god_n to_o the_o king_n to_o religion_n and_o so_o to_o your_o posterity_n and_o to_o the_o whole_a state_n that_o your_o honour_n will_v use_v your_o best_a mean_n thorough_o to_o acquaint_v and_o possess_v the_o king_n with_o this_o weighty_a business_n that_o upon_o the_o sight_n thereof_o his_o wisdom_n direct_v by_o god_n and_o the_o king_n first_o for_o god_n christ_n say_v to_o persecute_v saul_n why_o persecute_v thou_o i_o yet_o he_o persecute_v not_o christ_n person_n but_o his_o member_n and_o minister_n and_o to_o his_o disciple_n he_o say_v he_o that_o honour_v you_o honour_v i_o and_o he_o that_o despise_v you_o despise_v i_o be_v you_o then_o for_o christ_n then_o you_o must_v be_v for_o his_o minister_n to_o do_v they_o justice_n in_o their_o just_a cause_n if_o so_o than_o what_o mean_v the_o blear_a of_o the_o sheep_n the_o grievous_a complaint_n of_o god_n minister_n in_o many_o place_n of_o this_o land_n who_o be_v unjust_o oppress_v suspend_v excommunicate_v out_v of_o their_o live_n and_o so_o themselves_o &_o family_n undo_v in_o their_o worldly_a estate_n you_o will_v say_v why_o do_v they_o not_o complain_v to_o we_o if_o they_o do_v not_o it_o be_v because_o some_o of_o they_o have_v do_v so_o and_o yet_o find_v little_a or_o cold_a relief_n and_o because_o the_o common_a rumour_n go_v that_o the_o course_n of_o justice_n be_v stop_v in_o such_o case_n so_o as_o none_o dare_v plead_v their_o cause_n or_o open_v their_o mouth_n against_o the_o prelate_n but_o i_o hope_v better_o and_o if_o none_o be_v find_v to_o plead_v this_o cause_n of_o god_n i_o hope_v your_o worship_n will_v give_v i_o leave_v according_a to_o the_o right_n of_o law_n to_o plead_v it_o and_o yourselves_o will_v give_v true_a judgement_n for_o
as_o i_o be_o christ_n minister_n so_o i_o be_o the_o king_n faithful_a subject_n &_o crave_v justice_n at_o your_o hand_n according_a to_o the_o king_n law_n and_o oath_n yea_o his_o sacred_a majesty_n himself_o have_v declare_v his_o will_n to_o this_o purpose_n in_o the_o petition_n of_o right_n say_v the_o not_o the_o and_o shall_v the_o great_a prelate_n will_v or_o pleasure_n then_o member_n and_o be_v not_o the_o law_n of_o the_o kingdom_n the_o ligament_n which_o fasten_v and_o unite_v the_o head_n and_o member_n the_o king_n &_o his_o people_n together_o it_o be_v your_o charge_n to_o see_v that_o these_o ligament_n be_v not_o dissolve_v but_o preserve_v safe_a and_o sound_a else_o the_o whole_a both_o head_n and_o body_n of_o which_o yourselves_o and_o posterity_n be_v member_n must_v needs_o suffer_v together_o o_o then_o what_o a_o weighty_a charge_n lie_v upon_o your_o shoulder_n at_o this_o time_n when_o the_o whole_a frame_n both_o of_o the_o republic_n and_o religion_n so_o shake_v as_o it_o threaten_v sudden_a ruin_n if_o the_o law_n whereon_o they_o be_v establish_v be_v not_o maintain_v in_o their_o full_a strength_n and_o vigour_n do_v not_o your_o wisdom_n see_v a_o new_a generation_n of_o innovator_n rise_v up_o in_o this_o land_n who_o usurp_a and_o practise_v a_o papal_a and_o antichristian_a power_n and_o jurisdiction_n exempt_v the_o cause_n of_o religion_n itself_o they_o go_v to_o law_n against_o a_o prelate_n what_o mean_v that_o lawless_a insolency_n and_o boldness_n of_o many_o prelate_n who_o against_o law_n and_o conscience_n against_o the_o express_a doctrine_n of_o our_o church_n and_o against_o god_n word_n the_o ground_n and_o rule_v of_o our_o faith_n and_o religion_n dare_v of_o their_o own_o head_n bring_v in_o set_v up_o in_o church_n and_o impose_v upon_o minister_n new_a rite_n and_o ceremony_n contrary_a to_o the_o act_n of_o parliament_n before_o the_o communion_n book_n altar_n image_n from_o be_v the_o prime_n and_o principal_a cause_n of_o all_o the_o mischief_n and_o malady_n in_o the_o land_n by_o either_o fear_v deny_v or_o delay_v to_o do_v justice_n upon_o and_o against_o these_o insolent_a innovator_n have_v we_o not_o the_o best_a king_n in_o christendom_n who_o have_v so_o frequent_o &_o solemn_o as_o in_o the_o late_a petition_n of_o right_n so_o in_o his_o royal_a 1628._o royal_a declaration_n before_o the_o article_n of_o religion_n and_o declaration_n of_o yet_o cause_n of_o dissolve_v the_o last_o parliament_n print_v by_o his_o majesty_n authority_n 1628._o declaration_n protest_v call_v god_n to_o witness_v that_o neither_o in_o doctrine_n or_o discipline_n he_o will_v suffer_v the_o least_o innovation_n to_o creep_v in_o but_o will_v maintain_v that_o religion_n which_o be_v in_o queen_n elizabeth_n reign_n &_o under_o which_o this_o kingdom_n have_v so_o long_o flourish_v notwithstanding_o all_o which_o shall_v any_o up_o start_v innovator_n dare_v to_o set_v up_o their_o popish_a rite_n and_o superstitious_a form_n of_o worship_n in_o our_o church_n contrary_a to_o the_o express_a law_n of_o the_o realm_n and_o can_v you_o the_o reverend_a judge_n but_o be_v touch_v both_o in_o conscience_n of_o your_o duty_n of_o office_n &_o oath_n and_o in_o care_n of_o the_o peace_n a_o welfare_n of_o this_o kingdom_n and_o church_n and_o of_o the_o king_n honour_n and_o safety_n can_v such_o furious_a and_o outrageous_a alteration_n of_o religion_n be_v in_o any_o state_n without_o draw_v a_o long_a with_o it_o and_o after_o it_o infinite_a distraction_n and_o rent_n in_o the_o kingdom_n and_o intolerable_a discontent_n and_o heart_n burn_n in_o the_o people_n mind_n both_o tend_v to_o stir_v up_o sedition_n within_o and_o to_o expose_v the_o state_n to_o foreign_a invasion_n for_o god_n sake_n therefore_o since_o his_o majesty_n have_v commit_v to_o you_o the_o sword_n of_o justice_n draw_v it_o forth_o to_o defend_v the_o law_n against_o such_o innovator_n who_o as_o much_o as_o in_o they_o lie_v divide_v between_o the_o king_n &_o his_o people_n yourselves_o know_v better_a than_o i_o can_v tell_v you_o that_o if_o there_o be_v oppression_n in_o the_o common_a weal_n especial_o against_o the_o ordinary_a course_n of_o the_o law_n and_o against_o the_o liberty_n of_o the_o subject_n establish_v by_o law_n how_o hardly_o it_o be_v digest_v and_o what_o dangerous_a discontent_v it_o may_v breed_v how_o much_o more_o perilous_a be_v such_o alteration_n of_o religion_n which_o will_v by_o a_o strong_a hand_n and_o that_o after_o so_o long_a and_o clear_a light_n of_o the_o gospel_n bring_v we_o back_o again_o under_o a_o antichristian_a yoke_n which_o tyranize_v over_o the_o conscience_n soul_n body_n good_n and_o liberty_n poison_v religion_n with_o idolatry_n superstition_n and_o all_o manner_n of_o will-worship_n in_o human_a invention_n and_o tradition_n condemn_v by_o christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n up_o therefore_o and_o play_v the_o man_n discharge_v that_o great_a trust_n which_o the_o king_n have_v repose_v in_o you_o which_o your_o sa-oath_n require_v of_o you_o which_o all_o therefore_o they_o be_v the_o king_n enemy_n and_o so_o i_o this_o suffice_v to_o prove_v those_o my_o adversary_n and_o so_o incompetent_a judge_n of_o i_o and_o of_o my_o cause_n final_o i_o have_v just_a cause_n to_o appeal_v from_o those_o commissioner_n except_v against_o unto_o your_o royal_a majesty_n for_o their_o illegality_n which_o i_o have_v observe_v in_o their_o proceed_n partly_o forbid_v christian_a man_n etc._n etc._n so_o we_o judge_v that_o christian_a religion_n do_v not_o prohibit_v but_o that_o a_o man_n may_v swear_v when_o the_o magistrate_n require_v in_o a_o cause_n
