his_o abhorrence_n of_o it_o in_o his_o word_n as_o also_o by_o those_o fearful_a judgement_n which_o he_o inflict_v upon_o and_o pronounce_v against_o such_o that_o sin_n live_v in_o sin_n and_o make_v a_o trade_n of_o it_o likewise_o by_o the_o knowledge_n they_o may_v attain_v concern_v christ_n suffering_n for_o sin_n and_o by_o the_o punishment_n of_o the_o damn_a in_o hell_n and_o no_o salvation_n his_o decree_n his_o counsel_n and_o purpose_n shall_v stand_v he_o that_o believe_v not_o shall_v be_v 16._o damn_v 9_o it_o be_v because_o the_o sinner_n be_v not_o able_a to_o deliver_v himself_o out_o of_o god_n hand_n if_o he_o escape_v it_o must_v be_v from_o one_o of_o these_o two_o consideration_n 1._o that_o either_o god_n must_v change_v his_o purpose_n his_o absolute_a decree_n and_o counsel_n 2._o or_o else_o the_o sinner_n must_v get_v out_o of_o god_n hand_n and_o so_o deliver_v himself_o now_o it_o be_v impossible_a god_n mind_n shall_v change_v or_o his_o absolute_a decree_n be_v make_v void_a his_o decree_n shall_v stand_v and_o he_o will_v do_v all_o his_o pleasure_n god_n will_v be_v true_a and_o not_o make_v himself_o a_o liar_n to_o save_v the_o guilty_a sinner_n and_o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o the_o sinner_n to_o get_v out_o of_o god_n hand_n be_v evident_a because_o god_n be_v omnipotency_n itself_o whither_o can_v he_o fly_v from_o his_o presence_n who_o can_v stand_v before_o or_o escape_n his_o indignation_n therefore_o there_o be_v no_o way_n for_o such_o 6._o to_o escape_v god_n wrath_n who_o neglect_v this_o salvation_n application_n 1._o o_o bless_v god_n for_o this_o salvation_n and_o value_v it_o according_a to_o the_o nature_n worth_n and_o greatness_n of_o it_o 2._o bewail_v all_o ungodly_a person_n who_o be_v find_v slighter_n and_o neglecter_n of_o it_o and_o mourn_v over_o they_o o_o how_o sad_a be_v their_o condition_n may_v be_v you_o have_v some_o in_o your_o family_n that_o be_v neglecter_n of_o it_o may_v be_v a_o wife_n a_o husband_n or_o child_n that_o do_v not_o regard_v it_o but_o be_v ungodly_a and_o neglect_v the_o mean_n of_o grace_n how_o shall_v what_o you_o have_v hear_v move_v you_o to_o pity_v they_o to_o weep_v over_o they_o to_o pray_v for_o they_o and_o strive_v with_o they_o 3._o examine_v yourselves_o whether_o you_o have_v not_o or_o do_v not_o neglect_v this_o salvation_n do_v you_o make_v it_o your_o chief_a business_n to_o get_v a_o interest_n in_o christ_n do_v you_o prefer_v the_o mean_n of_o salvation_n above_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n what_o time_n do_v you_o take_v to_o seek_v god_n to_o pray_v to_o he_o to_o hear_v his_o word_n and_o with_o what_o zeal_n love_n faith_n and_o diligence_n do_v you_o do_v all_o these_o thing_n do_v you_o not_o defer_v soul-concernments_a to_o another_o time_n o_o see_v to_o it_o and_o examine_v yourselves_o do_v you_o not_o rest_v upon_o something_o or_o another_o short_a of_o christ_n do_v the_o power_n of_o grace_n appear_v in_o your_o heart_n and_o life_n 4._o this_o may_v teach_v believer_n to_o bear_v up_o under_o all_o trial_n and_o fear_n let_v what_o will_v come_v they_o be_v safe_a who_o have_v a_o interest_n in_o this_o great_a salvation_n other_o salvation_n be_v nothing_o to_o this_o and_o if_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v save_v from_o the_o wrath_n of_o man_n but_o must_v lose_v our_o liberty_n and_o be_v expose_v to_o death_n and_o danger_n here_o in_o this_o world_n yet_o it_o will_v go_v well_o with_o we_o if_o this_o salvation_n be_v we_o let_v what_o judgement_n can_v come_v upon_o the_o land_n thou_o have_v get_v a_o sure_a sanctuary_n god_n be_v thy_o help_n and_o thy_o salvation_n brethren_n there_o be_v many_o sad_a effect_n that_o do_v attend_v those_o that_o neglect_n continual_o neglect_v this_o salvation_n whilst_o they_o be_v in_o this_o world_n as_o manifestation_n of_o god_n displeasure_n as_o 1._o god_n withdraw_v the_o influence_n of_o his_o spirit_n from_o they_o after_o they_o have_v for_o a_o long_a time_n resist_v it_o in_o the_o common_a motion_n thereof_o even_o to_o such_o a_o degree_n that_o it_o shall_v strive_v with_o they_o no_o more_o thus_o god_n deal_v with_o the_o old_a world_n 2._o god_n give_v such_o up_o at_o last_o to_o blindness_n of_o mind_n so_o that_o they_o in_o see_v see_v not_o and_o in_o hear_v hear_v not_o neither_o do_v they_o understand_v 14._o and_o in_o they_o be_v fulfil_v the_o prophecy_n of_o esaias_n by_o hear_v you_o shall_v hear_v and_o shall_v not_o understand_v and_o see_v you_o shall_v see_v and_o not_o perceive_v the_o word_n of_o god_n if_o neglect_v and_o not_o receive_v that_o it_o may_v become_v a_o savour_n of_o life_n unto_o life_n will_v become_v a_o savour_n of_o death_n unto_o death_n it_o either_o soften_v or_o harden_v man_n heart_n 3._o god_n give_v they_o up_o to_o their_o own_o heart_n lust_n as_o god_n by_o the_o psalmist_n say_v my_o people_n will_v not_o hearken_v to_o my_o voice_n and_o israel_n will_v none_o of_o i_o so_o i_o give_v they_o up_o unto_o their_o own_o heart_n lust_n 12._o and_o they_o walk_v in_o their_o own_o counsel_n 4._o nay_o sometime_o god_n take_v away_o the_o gospel_n from_o they_o as_o he_o do_v from_o the_o jew_n that_o reject_v christ_n refuse_v the_o chief_a cornerstone_n therefore_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v take_v 43._o from_o you_o and_o give_v to_o a_o nation_n bring_v forth_o the_o fruit_n thereof_o what_o can_v be_v a_o worse_a judgement_n this_o it_o may_v be_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o cruel_a enemy_n for_o thus_o he_o deal_v with_o the_o unbelieve_a jew_n he_o bring_v the_o roman_n in_o upon_o they_o that_o burn_v their_o city_n and_o temple_n so_o that_o it_o be_v say_v wrath_n come_v upon_o they_o to_o the_o uttermost_a 16._o 6._o god_n sometime_o will_v not_o save_v person_n with_o temporal_a salvation_n because_o they_o neglect_v spiritual_a salvation_n so_o that_o they_o may_v read_v their_o sin_n if_o the_o lord_n open_v their_o eye_n in_o their_o punishment_n but_o it_o be_v not_o god_n usual_a way_n under_o this_o dispensation_n to_o inflict_v temporal_a punishment_n on_o such_o that_o neglect_v the_o salvation_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o he_o reserve_v his_o wrath_n to_o another_o world_n and_o therefore_o let_v none_o think_v though_o they_o escape_v his_o judgement_n here_o that_o they_o shall_v escape_v his_o judgement_n and_o wrath_n hereafter_o that_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o do_v as_o you_o hear_v but_o no_o more_o at_o this_o time_n heb._n ii_o 3._o how_o shall_v we_o escape_v if_o we_o neglect_v so_o great_a salvation_n xiii_o i_o be_o upon_o the_o three_o and_o last_o point_n of_o doctrine_n which_o i_o observe_v from_o our_o text_n viz._n that_o there_o be_v no_o possibility_n for_o such_o or_o any_o one_o soul_n of_o they_o to_o escape_v that_o neglect_v the_o great_a salvation_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o last_o day_n i_o show_v you_o first_o what_o those_o thing_n be_v which_o they_o shall_v not_o escape_v second_o why_o they_o can_v shall_v not_o escape_v who_o be_v guilty_a of_o this_o neglect_n three_o i_o be_o now_o to_o show_v you_o when_o or_o at_o what_o time_n they_o that_o neglect_v gospel-salvation_n shall_v not_o escape_v 1._o in_o the_o day_n of_o common_a calamity_n and_o desolate_v judgement_n escape_v that_o will_v come_v upon_o the_o earth_n there_o be_v beloved_n a_o dismal_a hour_n speak_v of_o in_o god_n word_n that_o be_v not_o yet_o come_v yet_o no_o doubt_n it_o be_v very_o near_o in_o which_o but_o a_o few_o shall_v escape_v i_o be_o afraid_a many_o good_a man_n who_o have_v be_v remiss_a and_o negligent_a in_o and_o about_o the_o great_a concern_v of_o christ_n and_o of_o their_o own_o soul_n shall_v not_o escape_v i_o mean_v
god_n sight_n and_o accept_v for_o the_o sake_n of_o christ_n merit_n not_o that_o christ_n righteousness_n alone_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o our_o justification_n exclusive_a of_o all_o our_o inherent_a righteousness_n and_o obedience_n no_o no_o but_o rather_o it_o be_v our_o righteousness_n which_o do_v justify_v we_o the_o gospel_n according_a to_o these_o man_n be_v propound_v as_o a_o law_n and_o god_n as_o a_o rector_n or_o just_a governor_n command_v obedience_n thereunto_o as_o the_o procure_a cause_n of_o our_o justification_n so_o that_o our_o faith_n and_o obedience_n be_v a_o cause_n and_o condition_n of_o life_n as_o unbelief_n and_o disobedience_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o eternal_a death_n but_o have_v former_o detect_v this_o dangerous_a error_n i_o shall_v not_o further_o insist_v upon_o the_o confutation_n of_o it_o here_o 5._o such_o preach_v a_o legal_a doctrine_n that_o render_v man_n a_o co-worker_n with_o christ_n in_o the_o salvation_n of_o their_o own_o soul_n by_o which_o mean_v there_o be_v room_n leave_v for_o he_o to_o boast_v and_o glory_n such_o a_o doctrine_n they_o preach_v who_o magnify_v the_o will_n of_o man_n or_o the_o power_n of_o the_o creature_n which_o i_o hope_v i_o have_v by_o the_o assistance_n of_o god_n sufficient_o detect_v and_o refute_v in_o this_o treatise_n all_o boast_a be_v exclude_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o the_o gospel_n man_n be_v abase_v and_o god_n alone_o exalt_v application_n i_o shall_v now_o come_v to_o make_v the_o general_a application_n of_o what_o i_o have_v say_v unto_o you_o from_o this_o great_a text_n and_o so_o conclude_v with_o all_o i_o shall_v say_v from_o it_o first_o inform._n first_o by_o way_n of_o information_n the_o doctrine_n which_o have_v in_o these_o sermon_n be_v insist_v on_o may_v inform_v we_o that_o gospel-sin_n be_v the_o great_a sin_n and_o that_o the_o blind_a heathen_n be_v not_o can_v be_v so_o guilty_a and_o culpable_a before_o god_n nor_o in_o such_o a_o dangerous_a condition_n as_o those_o be_v who_o live_v under_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o yet_o slight_a and_o neglect_v the_o salvation_n of_o it_o o_o what_o will_v they_o do_v in_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n that_o live_v in_o england_n in_o london_n in_o a_o land_n and_o city_n of_o so_o great_a light_n and_o perish_v through_o their_o sin_n and_o contempt_n or_o neglect_v of_o gospel-grace_n second_o this_o may_v also_o inform_v we_o how_o strange_o mankind_n be_v blind_v and_o deceive_v by_o the_o god_n of_o this_o world_n in_o that_o small_a thing_n be_v account_v great_a and_o that_o which_o be_v of_o the_o great_a concernment_n be_v little_a or_o not_o at_o all_o regard_v but_o esteem_v as_o a_o trivial_a matter_n o_o say_v some_o we_o must_v mind_v the_o main_a chance_n they_o mean_v the_o main_a business_n in_o respect_n of_o their_o earthly_a subsistence_n which_o be_v to_o get_v bread_n and_o to_o provide_v for_o the_o body_n for_o their_o wife_n and_o child_n now_o the_o doctrine_n which_o you_o have_v hear_v show_v you_o how_o you_o be_v delude_v that_o look_v upon_o earthly_a thing_n to_o be_v the_o main_a business_n you_o shall_v look_v after_o what_o be_v of_o such_o importance_n as_o the_o salvation_n of_o your_o precious_a and_o immortal_a soul_n and_o to_o be_v provide_v for_o a_o endless_a eternity_n three_o i_o may_v infer_v from_o hence_o that_o the_o great_a part_n of_o mankind_n be_v unbeliever_n for_o all_o that_o neglect_v this_o salvation_n and_o look_v not_o upon_o this_o matter_n as_o their_o chief_a business_n be_v doubtless_o in_o a_o state_n of_o unbelief_n they_o do_v not_o credit_v this_o holy_a doctrine_n they_o believe_v not_o god_n word_n if_o one_o shall_v tell_v you_o that_o be_v go_v a_o journey_n that_o if_o you_o go_v such_o a_o way_n you_o will_v certain_o be_v destroy_v by_o thief_n or_o wild_a beast_n yet_o you_o will_v go_v on_o will_v it_o not_o follow_v clear_o that_o you_o believe_v not_o what_o be_v tell_v you_o why_o thus_o it_o be_v here_o sinner_n be_v tell_v and_o assure_v from_o the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o certain_a as_o god_n be_v true_a and_o his_o word_n true_a that_o if_o they_o leave_v not_o their_o swear_v their_o pride_n their_o drunkenness_n their_o lie_v their_o lust_n and_o uncleanness_n their_o worldly-mindedness_a and_o their_o prefer_v earth_n and_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n above_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n or_o if_o they_o do_v not_o believe_v repent_v and_o be_v bear_v again_o they_o shall_v certain_o perish_v for_o ever_o yet_o they_o go_v on_o and_o live_v in_o those_o way_n of_o sin_n and_o believe_v not_o repent_v not_o this_o be_v a_o evident_a sign_n that_o they_o do_v not_o give_v credit_n to_o what_o be_v tell_v they_o and_o so_o be_v unbeliever_n and_o if_o they_o still_o persist_v in_o their_o way_n they_o will_v be_v certain_o damn_v 1._o our_o saviour_n say_v except_o you_o repent_v you_o shall_v all_o likewise_o perish_v 3._o you_o shall_v not_o escape_v eternal_a wrath_n be_v you_o great_a sinner_n or_o not_o sinner_n of_o the_o first_o rank_n the_o wicked_a shall_v be_v turn_v into_o hell_n and_o all_o the_o nation_n that_o forget_v god_n 2._o christ_n say_v he_o that_o believe_v not_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n abide_v on_o he_o and_o they_o that_o do_v not_o believe_v be_v tell_v there_o be_v no_o other_o 36._o way_n to_o escape_v this_o wrath_n and_o that_o this_o wrath_n will_v be_v pour_v forth_o upon_o they_o like_o fire_n unless_o they_o believe_v in_o christ_n receive_v christ_n obtain_v a_o interest_n in_o jesus_n christ_n nay_o that_o they_o be_v condemn_v already_o but_o they_o believe_v not_o 3._o moreover_o such_o who_o live_v a_o sober_a moral_a life_n be_v tell_v that_o notwithstanding_o that_o yet_o unless_o they_o be_v bear_v again_o unless_o they_o get_v faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o their_o righteousness_n exceed_v the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n and_o they_o obtain_v the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n they_o can_v enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n now_o they_o will_v not_o believe_v this_o but_o conclude_v their_o state_n be_v good_a and_o that_o morality_n be_v sufficient_a to_o save_v their_o soul_n which_o show_v that_o these_o be_v unbeliever_n also_o 4._o other_o be_v tell_v that_o their_o good_a deed_n their_o good_a duty_n their_o prayer_n their_o hear_n of_o sermon_n or_o their_o be_v baptise_a and_o have_v communion_n with_o god_n people_n will_v not_o do_v unless_o they_o be_v save_o renew_v and_o sanctify_a have_v the_o true_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o their_o heart_n and_o lead_v a_o godly_a holy_a and_o spiritual_a life_n find_v the_o powerful_a operation_n of_o the_o spirit_n change_v they_o into_o the_o likeness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n but_o they_o believe_v it_o not_o but_o rest_n upon_o their_o duty_n and_o outward_a privilege_n though_o they_o be_v tell_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v not_o in_o meat_n and_o drink_n but_o in_o righteousness_n and_o truth_n and_o joy_n in_o the_o holy_a ghost_n or_o that_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v not_o inward_a only_o but_o in_o power_n also_o and_o that_o lamp_n of_o profession_n will_v not_o save_v they_o except_o they_o have_v oil_n in_o their_o vessel_n many_o of_o these_o be_v like_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n and_o believe_v it_o not_o but_o rest_n on_o a_o bare_a name_n of_o christian_n on_o a_o form_n of_o godliness_n and_o may_v be_v fall_n short_a too_o as_o to_o a_o outward_a profession_n of_o godliness_n for_o so_o do_v they_o who_o pray_v not_o in_o the_o closet_n nor_o in_o their_o family_n neither_o read_v god_n word_n nor_o make_v it_o their_o business_n to_o hear_v the_o word_n preach_v in_o season_n and_o out_o of_o season_n but_o every_o small_a matter_n take_v they_o off_o of_o those_o duty_n be_v sure_a all_o prayerless_a soul_n be_v graceless_a soul_n it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v many_o of_o this_o sort_n make_v religion_n but_o little_a of_o their_o business_n who_o neither_o read_v pray_v nor_o meditate_v nor_o perhaps_o call_v upon_o their_o child_n and_o servant_n so_o to_o do_v but_o let_v their_o child_n have_v their_o carnal_a lust_n their_o pride_n ambitious_a and_o wanton_a inclination_n indulge_v and_o nourish_v in_o they_o o_o how_o little_a be_v the_o outward_a part_n of_o god_n worship_n keep_v up_o in_o the_o family_n of_o some_o professor_n four_o this_o may_v serve_v also_o for_o a_o use_n of_o terror_n to_o secure_a sinner_n terror_n 1._o may_v not_o cry_v out_o fire_n fire_n such_o a_o cry_n have_v often_o startle_v and_o amaze_v many_o of_o you_o that_o live_v in_o and_o about_o this_o city_n sir_n a_o fire_n
