XXVII 1 He that maketh a singular vo◠must be the Lords 2 The estimation of the person 9 Of a beast given by vow 14 Of a house 16 Of a field and the redemption thereof 28 No devoted thing may be redeemed 32 The title may not be changed And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Speak unto the children of Israel and say unto them When a man shall make a singular vow the persons shall be for the LORD by thy estimation 3 And thy estimation shall be of the male from twenty years old even unto sixty years old even thy estimation shall be fifty shekels of silver after the shekel of the sanctuary 4 And if it be a female then thy estimation shall be thirty shekels 5 And if it be from five years old even unto twenty years old then thy estimation shall be of the male twenty shekels and for the female ten shekels 6 And if it be from a moneth old even unto five years old then thy estimation shall be of the male five shekels of silver and for the female thy estimation shall be three shekels of silver 7 And if it be from sixty years old and above it it be a male then thy estimation shall be fifteen shekels and for the female ten shekels 8 But if he be poorer then thy estimation then he shall present himself before the priest and

X. 1 Job taking liberty of complaint expostulateth with God about his afflictions IS He complaineth of life and craveth a little ease before death MY soul is ‖ Or cut off while I live weary of my life I will leave my complaint upon my self I will speak in the bitterness of my soul 2 I will say unto God Do not condemn me shew me wherefore thou contendest with me 3 Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress that thou shouldest despise †Heb. the labour of thine hands the work of thine hands and shine upon the counsel of the wicked 4 Hast thou eyes of flesh or seest thou as man seeth 5 Are thy days as the days of man are thy years as mans days 6 That thou enquirest after mine iniquity and searchest after my sin 7 †Heb. XLVIII The ornaments and priviledges of the church ¶ A long and psalm ‖ Or of for the sons of Korah GReat is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God in the mountain of his holiness 2 Beautiful for situation the joy of the whole earth is mount Zion on the sides of the north the city of the great king 3 God is known in her palaces for a refuge 4 For lo the kings were assembled they passed by together 5 They saw it and so they marvelled they were troubled and hasted away 6 Fear took hold upon them there and pain as of a woman in travail 7 Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind 8 As we have heard so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts in the city of our God God will establish it for ever Selah 9 We have thought of thy loving kindness O God in the midst of thy temple 10 According to thy name O God so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth thy right hand is full of righteousness 11 Let mount Zion rejoyce let the daughters of Judah be glad because of thy judgements 12 Walk about Zion and go round about her tell the towers thereof 13 †Heb. set your heart to her bulwarks Mark ye well her bulwarks ‖ Or raise up consider her palaces that ye may tell it to the generation following 14 For this God is our God for ever and ever he will be our guide even unto death PSAL. XLIX 1 An earnest perswasion to build the faith of resurrection not on worldly power but on God 16 Worldly prosperity is not to be admired ¶ To the chief musician A psalm ‖ Or of for the sons of Korah HEar this all ye people give ear all ye inhabitants of the world 2 Both low and high rich and poor together 3 My mouth shall speak of wisdom and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding 4 * Ps â—8 2 Mat. 13.35 I will incline mine ear to a parable I will open my dark saying upon the harp 5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about 6 They that trust in their wealth and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches 7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother nor give to God a ransom for him 8 For the redemption of their soul is precious and it ceaseth for ever 9 That he should still live for ever end not see corruption 10 For he seeth that wise men die likewise the fool and the brutish person perish and leave their wealth to others 11 Their inward thought is that their houses shall continue for ever and their dwelling places †Heb. to generation and generation to all generations they call their lands after their own names 12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not he is like the beasts that perish 13 This their way is their folly yet their posterity †Heb. delight in their mouth approve their sayings Selah 14 Like sheep they are laid in the grave death shall seed on them and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning and their ‖ Or strength beauty shall consume ‖ Or the grave being an habitation to every one of them in the grave from their dwelling 15 But God will redeem my soul †Heb. from the hand of the grave from the power of ‖ Or hell the grave for he shall receive me Selah 16 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich when the glory of his house is increased 17 * Job 27.19 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away his glory shall not descend after him 18 Though †Heb. in his life whiles he lived he blessed his soul and men will praise thee when thou doest well to thy self 19
loveth it 141 I am small and despised yet do not I forget thy precepts 142 Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness and thy law is the truth 143 Trouble and anguish have †Heb. found me taken hold on me yet thy commandments are my delights 144 The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting give me understanding and I shall live KOPH 145 I cried with my whole heart hear me O LORD I will keep thy statutes 146 I cried unto thee save me ‖ Or that I may keep and I shall keep thy testimonies 147 I prevented the dawning of the morning and cried I hoped in thy word 148 Mine eyes prevent the night watches that I might meditate in thy word 149 Hear my voice according unto thy loving kindness O LORD quicken me according to thy judgement 150 They draw night that follow after mischief they are far from thy law 151 Thou art near O LORD and all thy commandments are truth 152 Concerning thy testimonies I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever RESH 153 Consider mine affliction and deliver me for I do not forget thy law 154 Plead my cause and deliver me quicken me according to thy word 155 Salvation is far from the wicked for they seek not thy statutes 156 ‖ Or Many Great are thy tender mercies O LORD quicken me according to thy judgements 157 Many are my persecuters and mine enemies yet do I not decline from thy testimonies 158 I beheld the transgressours and was grieved because they kept not thy word 159 Consider how I love thy precepts quicken me O LORD according to thy loving kindness 160 †Heb. the beginning of thy word is true Thy word is true from the beginning and every one of thy righteous judgements endureth for ever SCHIN 161 Princes have persecuted me without a cause but my heart standeth in aw of thy word 162 I rejoyce at thy word as one that findeth great spoil 163 I hate and abhor lying but thy law do I love 164 Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgements 165 Great peace have they which love thy law and †Heb. they shafâ— have no stumbling-block nothing shall offend them 166 LORD I have hoped for thy salvation and done thy commandments 167 My soul hath kept thy testimonies and I love them exceedingly 168 I have kept thy precepts and thy testimonies for all my ways are before thee TAU 169 Let my cry come near before thee O LORD give me understanding according to thy word 170 Let my supplication come before thee deliver me according to thy word 171 My lips shall utter praise when thou hast taught me thy statutes 172 My tongue shall speak of thy word for all thy commandments are righteousness 173 Let thine hand help me for I have chosen thy precepts 174 I have longed for thy salvation O LORD thy law is my delight 175 Let my soul live and it shall praise thee and let thy judgements help me 176 I have gone astray like a lost sheep seek thy servant for I do not forget thy commandments PSAL. CXX 1 David prayeth against Doeg 3 reproveth his tongues 5 complaineth of his necessary conversation with the wicked ¶ A song of degrees IN my distress I cried unto the LORD and he heard me 2 Deliver my soul O LORD from lying lips and from a deceitful tongue 3 ‖ Or What shall the deceitful tongue give unto thee or what shall it profit thee What shall be given unto thee or what shall be †Heb. added done unto thee thou false tongue 4 ‖ Or It is as the sharp arrows of the mighty man with coals of juniper Sharp arrows of the mighty with coals of juniper 5 Wo is me that I sojourn in Mesech that I dwell in the tents of Kedar 6 My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace 7 I am ‖ Or a man of peace for peace but when I speak they are for war PSAL. CXXI 1 The great safety of the godly who put their trust in Gods protection ¶ A song of degrees ‖ Or Shall I lift up mine eyes to the bills whence should my holy come I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help 2 * Ps 124.8 My help cometh from the LORD which made heaven and earth 3 He will not suffer thy â—out to be moved he that keepeth thee will not slumber 4 Behold he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep 5 The LORD is thy keeper the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand 6 The sun shall not smite thee by day nor the moon by night 7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil he shall preserve thy soul 8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth and even for evermore PSAL. CXXII 1 David professeth his joy for the church 6 and prayeth for the peace thereof ¶ A song of degrees of David I Was glad when they said unto me Let us go into the house of the LORD 2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates O Jerusalem 3 Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together 4 Whither the tribes go up the tribes of the LORD unto the testimony of Israel to give thanks unto the name of the LORD 5 For there †Heb. 〈◊〉 sit are set thrones of judgement the thrones of the house of David 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem they shall prosper that love thee 7 Peace be within thy walls and prosperity within thy palaces 8 For my brethren and companions sakes I will now say Peace be within thee 9 Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good PSAL. CXXIII 1 The godly profess their confidence in God 3 and pray to be delivered from contempt ¶ A song of degrees UNto thee lift I up mine eyes O thou that dwellest in the heavens 2 Behold as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God until that he have mercy upon us 3 Have mercy upon us O LORD have mercy upon us for we are exceedingly filled with contempt 4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease and with the contempt of the proud PSAL. CXXIV The church blesseth God for a miraculous deliverance ¶ A song of degrees of David IF it had not been the LORD who was on our side now may Israel say 2 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side when men rose up against us 3 Then they had swallowed us up quick when their wrath was kindled against us 4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us the stream had gone over our soul 5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul 6 Blessed be the LORD who hath not given us as
princes and babes shall rule over them 5 And the people shall be oppressed every one by another and every one by his neighbour the childe shall behave himself proudly against the ancient and the base against the honourable 6 When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father saying Thou hast clothing be thou our ruler and let this ruine be under thy hand 7 In that day shall he †Heb. lift up the hand swear saying I will not be an †Heb. binder up healer for in my house is neither bread nor clothing make me not a ruler of the people 8 For Jerusalem is ruined and Judah is faln because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD to provoke the eyes of his glory 9 ¶ The shew of their countenance doth witness against them and they declare their sin as * Gen. 13.13 18.21 19.5 Sodom they hide it not wo unto their soul for they have rewarded evil unto themselves 10 Say ye to the righteous that it shall be well with him for they shall eat the fruit of their doings 11 Wo unto the wicked it shall be ill with him for the reward of his hands shall be †Heb. done to him given him 12 ¶ As for my people children are their oppressours and women rule over them O my people ‖ Or they which call thee blessed they which lead thee cause thee to err and †Heb. swallow up destroy the way of thy paths 13 The LORD standeth up to plead standeth to judge the people 14 The LORD will enter into judgement with the ancients of his people and the princes thereof for ye have ‖ Or burnt eaten up the vineyard the spoil of the poor is in your houses 15 What mean ye thâ—â—â— ye beat my people to pieces and grinde the faces of the poor saith the Lord GOD of hosts 16 ¶ Moreover the LORD saith Because the daughters of Zion are haughty and walk with stretched-forth necks and †Heb. deceiving with their eyes wanton eyes walking and ‖ Or tripping nicelâ— mincing as they go and making a tinkling with their feet 17 Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion and the LORD will †Heb. make â—aked discover their secret parts 18 In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments about their feet and their ‖ Or net-works cauls and their round tires like the moon 19 The ‖ Or sweet balls chains and the braceâ—ers and the ‖ Or spangled ornaments mufflers 20 The bonnets and the ornaments of the legs and the headbands and the †Heb. â—ouses of the soul tablets and the ear-rings 21 The rings and nose-jewels 22 The changeable suits of apparel and the mantles and the wimples and the crisping-pins 23 The glasses and the fine linen and the hoods and the veils 24 And it shall come to pass that in stead of sweet smell there shall be stink and in stead of a girdle a rent and in stead of well set hair baldness and in stead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth and burning in stead of beauty 25 Thy men shall fall by the sword and thy †Heb. miâ—â—t mighty in the war 26 And her gates shall lament and mourn and she being ‖ Or emptied †Heb. creansed desolate shall sit upon the ground CHAP. IV. In the extremity of evils Christs kingdom shall be a sanctuary ANd in that day seven women shall take hold of one man saying We will eat our own bread and wear our own apparel onely †Heb. let the name be called upon us let us be called by thy name ‖ Or take thâ—â— away to take away our reproach 2 In that day shall the branch of the LORD be †Heb. 〈…〉 beautiful and glorious and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely †Heb. so the escaping of Israel for them that are escaped of Israel 3 And it shall come to pass that he that is left in Zion and he that remaineth in Jerusalem shall be called holy even every one that is written ‖ Or to life among the living in Jerusalem 4 When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and shall have purged the bloud of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgement and by the spirit of burning 5 And the LORD will create upon every dwelling-place of mount Zion and upon her assemblies a * Ex. 13.21 cloud and smoke by day the shining of a flaming fire by night for ‖ Or above upon all the glory shall be †Heb. a covering a defence 6 And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the day-time from the heat and for a place of refuge and for a covert from storm and from rain CHAP. V. 1Vnder the parable of a vineyard God excuseth bis severe judgement 8 His judgements upon covetousness 11 upon lasciviousness 13 upon impiety 20 and upon injustice 26 The executioners of Gods judgements NOw will I sing to my welbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard My welbeloved hath * Jer. 2 21. Mat. 21.33 Mar. 12.1 Lu. 20.9 a vineyard in †Heb. the born of the son of oyl a very fruitful hill 2 And he ‖ Or made a wall about it fenced it and gathered out the stones thereof and planted it with the choicest vine and built a towre in the midst of it and also †Heb. bewed made a wine-press therein and he looked that it should bring forth grapes and it brought forth wilde grapes 3 And now O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah judge I pray you betwixt me and my vineyard 4 What could have been done more to my vineyard that I have not done in it wherefore when I looked that it should bring forth grapes brought it forth wilde grapes 5 And now go to I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard I will take away the hedge thereof and it shall be eaten up and break down the wall thereof and it shall be †Heb. for a treading troden down 6 And I will lay it waste it shall not be pruned nor digged bâ—â— there shall come up briers and thorns I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it 7 For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel and the men of Judah †Heb. plant of his pleasures his pleasant plant and he looked for judgement but behold †Heb. a seab oppression for righteousness but behold a cry 8 ¶ Wo unto them that joyn * Mic. 2.2 house to house that lay field to field till there be no place that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth 9 ‖ Or This is in mine
years old for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go it up for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of †Heb. breaking destruction 6 For the waters of Nimrim shall be †Heb. desolations desolate for the hay is withered away the grass faileth there is no green thing 7 Therefore the abundance they have gotten and that which they have laid up shall they carry away to the ‖ Or â—aâ—ley of the Arbians brook of the willows 8 For the cry is gone round about the borders of Moab the howling thereof unto Eglaim and the howling thereof unto Beer-elim 9 For the waters of Dimon shall be full of blood for I will bring †Heb. additions more upon Dimon lions upon him that escapeth of Moab and upon the remnant of the land CHAP. XVI 1 Moab is exhorted to yield obedience to Christs kingdom 6 Moab is threatned for her pride 9 The prophet bewaileth her 12 The judgement of Moab SEnd ye the lamb to the ruler of the land from ‖ Or Petr◠†Heb. a rock Sela to the wilderness unto the mount of the daughter of Zion 2 For it shall be that as a wandring bird ‖ Or a nest forsaken cast out of the nest so the daughters of Moab shall be at the fords of Arnon 3 †Heb. Bring Take counsel execute judgement make thy shadow as the night in the midst of the noon-day hide the outcasts bewray not him that wandreth 4 Let mine outcasts dwell with thee Moab be thou a covert to them from the face of the spoiler for the †Heb. wringer extortioner is at an end the spoiler ceaseth †Heb. the treader down the oppressours are consumed out of the land 5 And in mercy * Dan. 7.14.27 Mâ—c 4.7 Lu. 1 4â— shall the throne be ‖ Or prepared established and he shall sit upon it in truth in the tabernacle of David judging and seeking judgement and hasting righteousness 6 ¶ We have heard of the * Jer. 48.27 pride of Moab he is very proud even of his haughtiness and his pride and his wrath but his lies shall not be so 7 Therefore shall Moab * Jer. 48.20 howl for Moab every one shall howl for the foundations of Kir-hareseth shall ye ‖ Or mutter mourn surely they are stricken 8 For the fields of Heshbon languish and the vine of Sibmah the lords of the heathen have broken down the principal plants thereof they are come even unto Jazer they wandred through the wilderness her branches are ‖ Or plucked up stretched out they are gone over the sea 9 ¶ Therefore I will bewail with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah I will water thee with my tears O Heshbon and Elealeh for ‖ Or the alarm is faln upon c. the shouting for thy summer-fruits and for thy harvest is faln 10 And * Jer. 48.33 gladness is taken away and joy out of the plentiful field and in the vineyards there shall be no singing neither shall that * be shoutâ—ng the treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses I have made their vintage-shouting to cease 11 Wherefore my bowels shall sound like an harp for Moab and mine inward parts for Kir-haresh 12 ¶ And it shall come to pass when it is seen that Moab is weary on the high place that he shall come to his sanctuary to pray but he shall not prevail 13 This is the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning Moab since that time 14 But now the LORD hath spoken saying Within three years as the years of an hireling and the glory of Moab shall be contemned with all that great multitude and the remnant shall be very small and ‖ Or not many feeble CHAP. XVII 1 Syria and Israel are threatned 6 A remnant shall forsake idolatry 9 The rest shall be plagued for their impiety 12 The wo of Israels enemies THe burden of Damascus Behold Damascus is taken away from being a city and it shall be a ruinous heap 2 The cities of Aroer are forsaken they shall be for flocks which shall lie down and none shall make them afraid 3 The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim and the kingdom from Damascus and the remnant of Syria they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel saith the LORD of hosts 4 And in that day it shall come to pass that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean 5 And it shall be as when the harvest-man gathereth the corn and reapeth the ears with his arm and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim 6 ¶ Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it as the shaking of an olive-tree two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof saith the LORD God of Israel 7 At that day shall a man look to his maker and his eyes shall have respect to the holy One of Israel 8 And he shall not look to the altars the work of his hands neither shall respect that which his fingers have made either the groves or the ‖ Or suâ—-images images 9 ¶ In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough and an uppermost branch which they left because of the children of Israel and there shall be desolation 10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants and shalt set it with strange slips 11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish but the harvest shall be ‖ Or removed in the day of inheritance and there shall be deadly sorrow a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow 12 ¶ Wo to the ‖ Or noise multitude of many people which make a noise like the noise of the seas and to the rushing of nations that make a rushing like the rushing of ‖ Or manâ— mighty waters 13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters but God shall rebuke them and they shall flee far off and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind and like ‖ Or the-â—â—â— dowâ— a rolling thing before the whirlwind 14 And behold at evening-tide trouble and before the morning he is not this is the portion of them y spoil us and the lot of them that rob us CHAP. XVIII 1 God in care of his people will destroy the Ethiopians 7 An access thereby shall crow unto the church Wo to the land shadowing with wings which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia 2 That sendeth ambassadours by the sea even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters saying Go ye swift messengers to a nation Or out-spread and
but not of my spirit that they may add sin to sin 2 That walk to go down into Egypt and have not asked at my mouth to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh and to trust in the shadow of Egypt 3 Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion 4 For his princes were at Zoan and his ambassadours came to Hanes 5 They were all ashamed of a people that could not profit them nor be an help nor profit but a shame and also a reproach 6 The burden of the beasts of the south into the land of trouble and anguish from whence come the young and old lion the viper and fiery slying serpent they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses and their treasures upon the bunches of camels to a people that shall not profit them 7 For the Egyptians shall help in vain and to no purpose therefore have I cried ‖ Or to her concerning this Their strength is to sit still 8 ¶ Now go write it before them in a table and note it in a book that it may be for †Heb. the latter â—ay the time to come for ever and ever 9 That this is a rebellious people lying children children that will not hear the law of the LORD 10 Which say to the seers See not and to the prophets Prophesie not unto us right things speak unto us smooth things prophesie deceits 11 Get you out of the way turn aside out of the path cause the holy One of Israel to cease from before us 12 Wherefore thus saith the holy One of Israel Because ye despise this word and trust in ‖ Or fraud oppression and perversness and stay thereon 13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall swelling out in a high wall whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant 14 And he shall break it as the breaking of †Heb. the bottle of potters the potters vessel that is broken in pieces he shall not spare so that there shall not be found in the bursting of it a sherd to take fire from the hearth or to take water withal out of the pit 15 For thus saith the Lord GOD the holy One of Israel In returning and rest shall ye be saved in quietness and in considence shall be your strength and ye would not 16 But ye said No for we will flee upon horses therefore shall ye flee and we will ride upon the swift therefore shall they that pursue you be swift 17 One thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one at the rebuke of five shall ye flee till ye be left as ‖ Or a tree bereft of branches or boughs or a mast a beacon upon the top of a mountain and as an ensigne on an hill 18 ¶ And therefore will the LORD wait that he may be gracious unto you and therefore will he be exalted that he may have mercy upon you for the LORD is a God of judgement * Psal 2.12 and 24.8 Prov. 16.20 Jer. 17.7 blessed are all they that wait for him 19 For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem thou shalt weep no more he will be very gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry when he shall hear it he will answer thee 20 And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of ‖ Or oppression affliction yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more but thine eyes shall see thy teachers 21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee saying This is the way walk ye in it when ye turn to the right hand and when ye turn to the left 22 Ye shall defile also the covering of †Heb. the graven images of thy silver thy graven images of silver and the ornament of thy molten images of gold thou shalt †Heb. seatter cast them away as a menstruous cloth thou shalt say unto it Get thee hence 23 Then shall he give the rain of thy seed that thou shalt sowe the ground withal and bread of the increase of the earth and it shall be fat and plenteous in that day shall thy cattel feed in large pastures 24 The oxen likewise and the young asses that eare the ground shall eat ‖ Or savoury †Heb. leavened clean provender which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan 25 And there shall be upon every high mountain and upon every †Heb. lifted up high hill rivers and streams of waters in the day of the great slaughter when the towers fall 26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun and the light of the sun shall be seven-fold as the light of seven days in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people and healeth the stroke of their wound 27 ¶ Behold the name of the LORD cometh from far burning with his anger ‖ Or and the grievousness of fame and the burden thereof is †Heb. heaviness heavy his lips are full of indignation and his tongue as a devouring fire 28 And his breath as an overflowing stream shall reach to the midst of the neck to sift the nations with the live of vanity and there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people causing them to err 29 Ye shall have a song as in the night when a holy solemnity is kept and gladness of heart as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountain of the LORD to the †Heb. rock mighty One of Israel 30 And the LORD shall cause †Heb. the glory his voice his glorious voice to be heard and shall shew the lighting down of his arm with the indignation of his anger and with the flame of a devouring fire with scattering and tempest and hailstones 31 For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down which smote with the rod. 32 And †Heb. every passing of the rod founded in every place where the grounded staff shall pass which the LORD shall †Heb. cause to rest upon him lay upon him it shall be with tabrets and harps and in battels of shaking will he fight ‖ Or against them with it 33 For Tophet is ordained †Heb. from yesterday of old yea for the king it is prepared he hath made it deep and large the pile thereof is fire and much wood the breath of the LORD like a stream of brimstone doth kindle it CHAP. XXXI 1 The prophet sheweth the cursed folly in trusting to Egypt and forsaking of God 6 He exhorteth to conversion 8 He sheweth the fall of Assyria WO to them that go down to Egypt for help and stay on horses and trust in chariots because they are many and in hors-men because they are very strong but they look not unto the holy One of
despise thee they will seek thy life 31 For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail and the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first childe the voice of the daughter of Zion that bewaileth her self that spreadeth her hands saying Wo is me now for my soul is wearied because of murderers CHAP. III. 1 The cruelty of the princes 6 The falshood of the prophets 8 The security of them both ANd I said Hear I pray you O heads of Jacob and ye princes of the house of Israel Is it not for you to know judgement 2 Who hate the good and love the evil who pluck off their skin from off them and their flesh from off their bones 3 Who also eat the flesh of my people and sley their skin from off them and they break their bones and chop them in pieces as for the pot and as flesh within the caldron 4 Then shall they cry unto the LORD but he will not hear them he will even hide his face from them at that time as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings 5 ¶ Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people err that * Ch. 2.11 bite with their teeth and cry Peace and he that putteth not into their mouths they even prepare war against him 6 Therefore night shall be unto you †Heb. from a vision that ye shall not have a vision and it shall be dark unto you †Heb. from divining that ye shall not divine and the sun shall go down over the prophets and the day shall be dark over them 7 Then shall the seers be ashamed and the diviners confounded yea they shall all cover their †Heb. upper lip lips for there is no answer of God 8 ¶ But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD and of judgement and of might to declare unto Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin 9 Hear this I pray you ye heads of the house of Jacob and princes of the house of Israel
