which_o he_o be_v the_o light_n of_o life_n to_o man_n or_o be_v it_o the_o dark_a body_n of_o his_o own_o faith_n or_o belief_n chap._n vii_o in_o which_o be_v open_v the_o manner_n how_o the_o saint_n persevere_v in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n by_o jesus_n christ_n according_a to_o the_o scripture_n first_o a_o word_n or_o two_o for_o introduction_n that_o although_o there_o be_v a_o difference_n between_o man_n that_o seek_v honour_n and_o glory_n as_o be_v describe_v and_o betwixt_o those_o that_o be_v dead_a in_o sin_n and_o in_o trespass_n before_o the_o gift_n of_o faith_n yet_o after_o there_o be_v no_o difference_n but_o both_o be_v alike_o possess_v of_o eternal_a life_n for_o he_o that_o right_o believe_v have_v eternal_a life_n whatsoever_o he_o be_v before_o a_o second_o thing_n premise_v be_v this_o what_o be_v mean_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n i_o answer_v two_o thing_n the_o first_o be_v god_n merciful_a acceptance_n of_o a_o believer_n person_n as_o a_o mystical_a member_n of_o the_o body_n of_o his_o son_n and_o to_o be_v his_o adopt_a son_n in_o he_o and_o so_o to_o no_o man_n else_o second_o by_o grace_n be_v mean_v his_o endow_v of_o they_o by_o the_o work_n of_o his_o spirit_n with_o inherent_a righteousness_n every_o man_n according_a to_o his_o measure_n as_o of_o faith_n and_o love_n and_o patience_n etc._n etc._n and_o these_o man_n be_v call_v new_a creature_n and_o none_o else_o if_o you_o ask_v i_o quest_n why_o i_o distinguish_v between_o right_a believer_n and_o true_a believer_n i_o answer_v a_o ungodly_a may_v believe_v true_o but_o never_o right_o in_o order_n to_o his_o own_o eternal_a life_n so_o balaam_n believe_v that_o oracle_n true_o which_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n drop_v from_o his_o lip_n but_o not_o right_o first_o because_o his_o mind_n creep_v on_o the_o earth_n or_o earthly_a contentment_n like_o the_o serpent_n which_o god_n curse_v for_o they_o run_v greedy_o after_o the_o error_n of_o balaam_n for_o reward_n second_o because_o he_o leap_v over_o a_o sanctify_a life_n 11._o epist_n judas_n 11._o only_o desire_v to_o die_v the_o death_n of_o the_o righteous_a thus_o do_v the_o proud_a and_o covetous_a priest_n pharisee_n and_o scribe_n the_o great_a professor_n of_o those_o time_n true_o believe_v the_o oracle_n of_o god_n deliver_v they_o by_o moses_n to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o they_o do_v not_o believe_v right_o for_o if_o so_o they_o will_v have_v embrace_v the_o lord_n of_o glory_n and_o never_o embrue_v their_o hand_n in_o his_o blood_n therefore_o i_o distinguish_v between_o right_a believer_n and_o true_a believer_n so_o now_o i_o come_v to_o the_o point_n the_o saint_n perseverance_n and_o in_o the_o first_o place_n it_o be_v ground_v upon_o that_o which_o may_v ever_o be_v distinguish_v but_o never_o separate_v in_o this_o business_n that_o be_v the_o power_n of_o christ_n spirit_n and_o the_o saint_n exercise_v of_o their_o grace_n already_o receive_v and_o thus_o they_o be_v keep_v by_o the_o power_n of_o god_n through_o faith_n unto_o salvation_n that_o be_v in_o perseverance_n unto_o salvation_n 1_o pet._n 1.5.9_o receive_v the_o end_n of_o your_o faith_n even_o the_o salvation_n of_o your_o soul_n wherefore_o gird_v up_o the_o loin_n of_o your_o mind_n be_v sober_a and_o hope_v to_o the_o end_n verse_n 13.7_o the_o trial_n of_o your_o faith_n be_v much_o more_o precious_a than_o of_o gold_n which_o perish_v verse_n 1.21_o that_o your_o faith_n and_o hope_n may_v be_v in_o god_n from_o this_o work_n of_o the_o saint_n perseverance_n the_o power_n of_o christ_n spirit_n and_o the_o exercise_n of_o their_o grace_n former_o receive_v may_v ever_o be_v distinguish_v but_o never_o separate_v as_o be_v former_o say_v again_o peter_n in_o his_o second_o epistle_n 1.3_o 2_o pet._n 1.3_o come_v more_o close_a to_o the_o point_n of_o perseverance_n even_o to_o be_v establish_v immovable_o according_a as_o his_o divine_a power_n have_v give_v unto_o we_o all_o thing_n that_o pertain_v to_o life_n and_o godliness_n thereupon_o he_o enforce_v the_o exhortation_n give_v all_o diligence_n add_v to_o your_o faith_n virtue_n and_o to_o your_o virtue_n knowledge_n add_v to_o your_o knowledge_n temperance_n and_o to_o your_o temperance_n patience_n and_o to_o your_o patience_n godliness_n and_o to_o godliness_n brotherly_a kindness_n and_o to_o brotherly_a kindness_n charity_n and_o then_o render_v they_o this_o reason_n why_o they_o shall_v so_o do_v for_o if_o these_o thing_n be_v in_o you_o and_o abound_v they_o make_v you_o that_o you_o shall_v neither_o be_v barren_a nor_o unfruitful_a in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n 13._o joh._n 13.17_o 13._o wherefore_o the_o rather_o brethren_n give_v diligence_n to_o make_v your_o call_v and_o election_n
