such_o as_o converse_v with_o he_o and_o follow_v he_o while_o he_o live_v here_o upon_o earth_n but_o as_o many_o as_o believe_v on_o he_o and_o have_v communion_n with_o he_o now_o in_o heaven_n and_o have_v the_o work_n of_o grace_n wrought_v by_o his_o spirit_n in_o their_o heart_n therefore_o this_o privilege_n which_o we_o now_o speak_v of_o it_o be_v not_o a_o corporal_a privilege_n only_o but_o a_o spiritual_a not_o a_o earthly_a only_o but_o a_o heavenly_a it_o be_v a_o relation_n not_o lay_v in_o nature_n or_o custom_n but_o found_v in_o grace_n look_v what_o christ_n say_v relation_n of_o a_o disciple_n of_o christ_n it_o be_v not_o a_o temporal_a or_o terrestrial_a prerogative_n only_o but_o a_o celestial_a this_o be_v make_v very_o much_o for_o the_o encouragement_n of_o the_o mean_a and_o weak_a christian_n all_o can_v be_v disciple_n in_o the_o first_o sense_n be_v all_o apostle_n etc._n etc._n 1_o cor._n 12.29_o no_o but_o all_o may_v be_v disciple_n in_o the_o second_o this_o be_v not_o confine_v to_o any_o number_n whatsever_v but_o be_v such_o as_o all_o sort_n of_o person_n indefinite_o be_v capable_a of_o every_o true_a believe_a soul_n without_o exception_n he_o be_v the_o friedn_n and_o schoar_n of_o christ_n he_o retain_v and_o belong_v unto_o he_o and_o have_v dependence_n upon_o he_o which_o be_v matter_n of_o very_o great_a comfort_n and_o satisfaction_n to_o he_o and_o so_o much_o of_o the_o first_o particular_a to_o wit_n the_o privilege_n itself_o simple_o consider_v to_o be_v a_o disciple_n of_o christ_n etc._n etc._n the_o second_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o his_o privilege_n in_o the_o connexion_n of_o this_o latter_a part_n of_o the_o verse_n with_o that_o which_o go_v before_o if_o you_o continue_v in_o my_o word_n then_o etc._n etc._n where_o we_o see_v what_o it_o be_v which_o give_v we_o title_n to_o this_o discipleship_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o eminency_n or_o the_o pre-eminence_n of_o it_o namely_o perseverance_n in_o the_o faith_n in_o this_o condition_n and_o only_o in_o this_o take_v the_o word_n then_o exclusive_o be_v we_o indeed_o the_o disciple_n of_o christ_n they_o and_o they_o only_o that_o persevere_v be_v christ_n true_a and_o perfect_a disciple_n this_o be_v that_o which_o be_v here_o hint_v unto_o we_o and_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n at_o once_o which_o may_v be_v employ_v in_o this_o expression_n either_o first_o as_o it_o be_v a_o word_n of_o qualification_n or_o second_o as_o it_o be_v a_o word_n of_o advantage_n then_o only_o be_v you_o my_o disciple_n as_o have_v the_o quality_n and_o property_n and_o disposition_n of_o true_a christian_n in_o you_o and_o then_o only_o be_v you_o my_o disciple_n as_o have_v the_o comfort_n and_o happiness_n and_o reward_n of_o my_o disciple_n belong_v unto_o you_o for_o to_o be_v a_o disciple_n of_o christ_n it_o do_v carry_v both_o these_o notion_n in_o it_o the_o property_n of_o a_o disciple_n and_o the_o reward_n of_o a_o disciple_n the_o latter_a follow_v upon_o the_o former_a and_o both_o of_o they_o depend_v upon_o perseverance_n and_o continue_v in_o christ_n word_n first_o the_o property_n of_o a_o disciple_n then_o be_v you_o my_o disciple_n indeed_o that_o be_v then_o only_o be_v you_o so_o qualify_v as_o it_o be_v fit_v and_o as_o it_o become_v they_o to_o be_v which_o profess_v themselves_o to_o be_v my_o disciple_n there_o be_v none_o that_o be_v true_a christian_n in_o good_a earnest_n and_o such_o as_o christ_n do_v himself_o own_o for_o his_o member_n but_o they_o alone_a which_o hold_v out_o and_o continue_v apostatise_v and_o backslide_v christian_n be_v no_o true_a christian_n at_o all_o this_o be_v that_o which_o be_v here_o signisied_a to_o we_o and_o not_o only_o here_o but_o also_o elsewhere_o in_o scripture_n as_o 1_o joh._n 2.19_o they_o go_v out_o from_o we_o because_o they_o be_v not_o of_o we_o for_o if_o they_o have_v be_v of_o we_o they_o will_v no_o doubt_n have_v continue_v with_o we_o but_o they_o go_v out_o that_o they_o may_v be_v make_v manifest_a that_o they_o be_v not_o all_o of_o we_o so_o heb._n 10.38_o 39_o now_o the_o just_a shall_v live_v by_o faith_n but_o if_o any_o man_n draw_v back_o my_o soul_n shall_v have_v no_o pleasure_n in_o he_o but_o we_o be_v not_o of_o they_o who_o draw_v back_o to_o perdition_n but_o of_o they_o that_o general_n that_o you_o have_v in_o these_o word_n they_o that_o wait_v upon_o the_o lord_n shall_v renew_v their_o strength_n the_o demonstration_n of_o this_o proposition_n in_o the_o particular_a you_o have_v in_o these_o word_n they_o shall_v mount_v up_o with_o eagle_n wing_n they_o shall_v run_v and_o not_o be_v weary_a they_o shall_v walk_v and_o not_o faint_a we_o begin_v with_o the_o believer_n the_o saint_n and_o servant_n of_o god_n they_o be_v such_o as_o wait_v upon_o god_n this_o be_v a_o duty_n often_o call_v for_o in_o scripture_n and_o so_o considerable_a a_o duty_n it_o be_v as_o that_o thereby_o the_o whole_a race_n of_o godly_a man_n be_v express_v and_o signify_v to_o we_o as_o if_o there_o be_v nothing_o else_o almost_o which_o be_v pertinent_a hereunto_o but_o be_v expectation_n from_o god_n there_o be_v look_v for_o somewhat_o from_o he_o to_o be_v bestow_v upon_o they_o this_o be_v always_o in_o the_o servant_n of_o god_n psal_n 123.2_o behold_v as_o the_o eye_n of_o servant_n look_v unto_o the_o hand_n of_o their_o master_n and_o as_o the_o eye_n of_o a_o handmaid_n look_v unto_o the_o hand_n of_o her_o mistress_n so_o our_o eye_n wait_v upon_o stay_v god_n time_n and_o leisure_n for_o the_o obtain_n of_o any_o thing_n which_o they_o look_v for_o and_o expect_v from_o he_o he_o that_o believe_v make_v not_o haste_n isa_n 28.16_o he_o do_v not_o prevent_v or_o outrun_v god_n in_o his_o providence_n towards_o he_o but_o stay_v till_o he_o think_v fit_v to_o help_v he_o this_o be_v the_o right_a temper_n of_o a_o true_a christian_a and_o they_o they_o be_v confound_v because_o they_o have_v hope_v they_o come_v thither_o etc._n etc._n thus_o it_o fall_v out_o in_o wait_v upon_o such_o as_o these_o but_o now_o in_o wait_v upon_o the_o all_o might_n in_o the_o inward_a man_n a_o christian_a must_v be_v like_o a_o tree_n not_o only_o grow_v to_o bear_v more_o fruit_n but_o also_o grow_v to_o more_o strength_n we_o need_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o strength_n not_o only_o to_o overcome_v our_o own_o weakness_n but_o also_o to_o bear_v with_o the_o weakness_n of_o other_o man_n while_o we_o be_v here_o require_v to_o renew_v our_o strength_n there_o be_v two_o thing_n which_o may_v be_v point_v out_o to_o we_o in_o this_o expression_n first_o recovery_n of_o strength_n there_o where_o it_o be_v in_o some_o measure_n lose_v and_o abate_v in_o we_o to_o renew_v it_o that_o be_v to_o regain_v it_o to_o require_v it_o and_o fetch_v it_o up_o again_o after_o some_o diminution_n second_o the_o improvement_n of_o strength_n to_o renew_v it_o that_o be_v to_o increase_v it_o and_o to_o add_v new_a strength_n unto_o it_o each_o of_o these_o be_v here_o employ_v and_o both_o to_o be_v practise_v by_o we_o in_o reference_n to_o our_o christian_a conversation_n we_o must_v renew_v our_o strength_n to_o each_o purpose_n first_o in_o a_o way_n of_o recovery_n we_o must_v renew_v it_o that_o be_v repair_v it_o those_o which_o have_v lose_v any_o measure_n and_o degree_n of_o grace_n which_o they_o have_v former_o have_v they_o must_v endeavour_v to_o restore_v it_o again_o it_o be_v a_o ill_a thing_n for_o a_o
to_o lose_v such_o a_o work_n as_o this_o be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n this_o be_v no_o ordinary_a business_n nor_o so_o to_o be_v account_v three_o add_v to_o this_o the_o extent_n of_o it_o and_o that_o which_o go_v along_o with_o it_o for_o if_o we_o lose_v our_o work_n there_o be_v somewhat_o more_o lose_v beside_o that_o as_o be_v imply_v afterward_o and_o that_o be_v of_o yourselves_o it_o be_v unprofitable_a for_o you_o heb._n 13.17_o alas_o if_o it_o be_v only_o our_o labour_n it_o may_v be_v it_o will_v be_v no_o great_a matter_n at_o least_o for_o we_o to_o speak_v of_o or_o if_o it_o be_v only_o the_o work_n itself_o abstract_o consider_v but_o now_o that_o it_o be_v of_o such_o consequence_n to_o you_o this_o improve_v it_o and_o set_v it_o on_o and_o the_o rather_o upon_o this_o add_v still_o to_o it_o that_o it_o be_v irrecoverable_a for_o so_o it_o be_v if_o the_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n take_v not_o there_o be_v nothing_o hereafter_o to_o be_v expect_v like_o a_o miscarriage_n in_o war_n if_o we_o once_o lose_v it_o we_o know_v not_o how_o to_o make_v it_o up_o again_o and_o to_o find_v our_o bottom_n upon_o these_o and_o the_o like_a consideration_n may_v you_o see_v the_o ground_n of_o this_o caution_n that_o we_o lose_v not_o the_o thing_n which_o we_o have_v wrought_v and_o thus_o much_o of_o the_o first_o part_n or_o branch_n of_o it_o as_o express_v in_o the_o negative_a the_o second_o be_v the_o affirmative_a but_o that_o you_o or_o we_o receive_v a_o full_a reward_n here_o be_v another_o piece_n of_o a_o motive_n why_o believer_n shall_v look_v to_o themselves_o not_o only_o that_o they_o may_v not_o lose_v but_o that_o moreover_o they_o may_v gain_v and_o their_o teacher_n gain_v with_o they_o we_o will_v take_v in_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n but_o rather_o the_o contrary_n nay_o further_o they_o be_v here_o by_o this_o mean_n occasional_o set_v further_o off_o from_o it_o christ_n crucify_v be_v foolishness_n doctrine_n and_o instruction_n but_o he_o observe_v the_o effect_n of_o this_o doctrine_n and_o the_o various_a entertainment_n of_o his_o preach_v by_o those_o person_n which_o it_o be_v tender_v unto_o whereof_o this_o be_v the_o result_n and_o the_o account_n that_o to_o some_o it_o be_v a_o doctrine_n of_o offence_n and_o reprobation_n to_o other_o of_o success_n and_o acceptance_n the_o former_a of_o these_o we_o have_v already_o dispatch_v in_o the_o 23_o verse_n of_o this_o chapter_n we_o come_v now_o with_o god_n assistance_n to_o the_o latter_a in_o the_o 24_o verse_n here_o before_o we_o but_o unto_o they_o which_o be_v call_v both_o jew_n and_o greek_n etc._n etc._n in_o this_o verse_n we_o have_v declare_v unto_o we_o the_o entertainment_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n crucify_v as_o a_o doctrine_n of_o success_n and_o such_o as_o take_v effect_n upon_o the_o heart_n of_o those_o to_o who_o it_o be_v bring_v but_o unto_o they_o which_o be_v call_v etc._n etc._n where_o again_o as_o in_o the_o former_a we_o shall_v observe_v somewhat_o in_o general_n and_o thence_o proceed_v to_o the_o particular_a point_n which_o lie_v here_o before_o we_o for_o the_o general_a therefore_o first_o this_o that_o god_n will_v have_v always_o some_o or_o other_o in_o the_o world_n which_o shall_v embrace_v and_o bear_v witness_n to_o his_o truth_n thus_o here_o in_o oftentimes_o much_o to_o seek_v and_o be_v able_a to_o say_v little_a to_o the_o purpose_n but_o now_o a_o man_n which_o have_v the_o work_n of_o grace_n in_o his_o heart_n he_o have_v a_o gracious_a
