nature_n of_o the_o respect_n of_o time_n towards_o religion_n as_o before_o towards_o study_n for_o learning_n or_o any_o other_o civil_a business_n that_o the_o quando_fw-la season_n or_o order_n whence_o it_o follow_v clear_o as_o be_v also_o say_v before_o in_o relation_n to_o learning_n that_o whereas_o a_o determination_n of_o the_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n of_o time_n for_o religion_n religion_n xxiii_o therefore_o there_o may_v be_v a_o alteration_n of_o it_o without_o hurt_n to_o religion_n whether_o of_o either_o of_o they_o single_o or_o both_o of_o they_o joint_o can_v be_v alter_v in_o any_o remarkable_a degree_n without_o a_o answerable_a alteration_n in_o the_o profit_n of_o it_o towards_o religion_n namely_o the_o profit_n must_v needs_o be_v great_a if_o hour_n only_o of_o a_o day_n and_o from_o the_o frequency_n of_o one_o day_n in_o seven_o to_o one_o in_o eight_o or_o ten_o only_a and_o consequent_o a_o determination_n of_o these_o respect_n of_o time_n remain_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o constant_o &_o perpetual_o profitable_a to_o religion_n it_o be_v quite_o otherwise_o with_o the_o season_n or_o order_n of_o time_n for_o religion_n for_o of_o that_o there_o may_v be_v a_o remarkable_a alteration_n as_o from_o the_o last_o day_n of_o seven_o to_o the_o first_o of_o seven_o from_o evening_n to_o morning_n begin_v morning_n it_o be_v ususual_o take_v for_o grant_v that_o the_o sabbath_n of_o old_a begin_v in_o the_o evening_n this_o we_o do_v not_o affirm_v nor_o yet_o altogether_o deny_v but_o shall_v consider_v it_o necessity_n interrupt_v and_o that_o no_o sober_a conscience_n however_o unwilling_a otherwise_o to_o spend_v such_o a_o proportion_n of_o time_n constant_o in_o religion_n or_o to_o allow_v it_o to_o other_o can_v reasonable_o deny_v it_o to_o be_v necessary_a for_o religion_n or_o challenge_v it_o as_o injurious_a to_o necessary_a worldly_a affair_n in_o this_o point_n we_o shall_v not_o have_v our_o adversary_n gainsay_v we_o earnest_o though_o some_o of_o they_o have_v speak_v sometime_o confess_v 1._o confess_v as_o though_o the_o great_a part_n of_o all_o our_o time_n be_v to_o be_v give_v to_o god_n in_o duty_n of_o solemn_a and_o religious_a worship_n witness_v one_o whole_a word_n our_o margin_n refer_v to_o what_o he_o mean_v by_o it_o we_o can_v b._n primt_fw-la part_n 2._o c._n 7._o s._n 4._o there_o shall_v be_v more_o justice_n to_o bestow_v more_o day_n upon_o god_n yea_o all_o etc._n etc._n n._n b._n for_o our_o part_n tell_v but_o we_o mean_v to_o assert_v no_o such_o thing_n absolute_o as_o the_o state_n of_o man_n be_v in_o this_o world_n but_o the_o contrary_a by_o reason_n of_o god_n indulgence_n of_o six_o day_n that_o be_v the_o great_a part_n of_o for_o some_o worldly_a matter_n constant_o out_o of_o his_o one_o day_n as_o for_o meat_n and_o sleep_v and_o for_o extraordinary_a occasion_n also_o that_o there_o shall_v be_v reservation_n for_o religion_n and_o his_o honour_n and_o the_o good_a of_o soul_n in_o the_o six_o work_a day_n both_o ordinary_o and_o extraordinary_o but_o now_o we_o be_v but_o in_o the_o way_n to_o prove_v that_o indulgence_n of_o six_o day_n for_o worldly_a matter_n and_o determination_n of_o one_o in_o seven_o for_o religion_n we_o say_v then_o that_o the_o whole_a proportion_n within_o the_o revolution_n of_o a_o week_n of_o seven_o day_n or_o any_o other_o number_n of_o day_n be_v not_o to_o be_v so_o large_a but_o by_o just_a proof_n it_o may_v be_v demonstrate_v that_o so_o large_a a_o proportion_n and_o no_o less_o be_v certain_o necessary_a for_o all_o man_n and_o the_o proof_n of_o this_o in_o a_o word_n be_v this_o prove_v 2._o prove_v that_o hereby_o man_n conscience_n will_v be_v awe_v with_o the_o determination_n as_o altogether_o uncontrollable_a and_o their_o mouth_n will_v be_v stop_v that_o for_o shame_n if_o they_o have_v any_o shame_n in_o they_o they_o will_v not_o dare_v to_o say_v that_o the_o commandment_n be_v a_o heavy_a yoke_n or_o a_o burden_n real_o grievous_a who_o ever_o be_v the_o determiner_n immediate_o god_n or_o man_n superior_n or_o one_o own_o vow_n and_o this_o if_o any_o thing_n will_v help_v main_o to_o secure_v the_o observation_n of_o it_o by_o all_o and_o among_o all_o who_o else_o will_v be_v perpetual_o quarrel_v and_o grumble_n against_o it_o and_o so_o what_o ever_o become_v of_o the_o public_a worship_n to_o which_o they_o may_v perhaps_o be_v ordinary_o awe_v by_o the_o magistrate_n and_o the_o family-worship_n also_o where_o the_o governor_n be_v strict_a yet_o to_o be_v sure_o they_o will_v never_o be_v tie_v to_o the_o performance_n of_o solitary_a worship_n but_o reject_v it_o as_o a_o unreasonable_a and_o intolerable_a imposition_n and_o so_o much_o too_o of_o either_o or_o both_o the_o other_o as_o they_o dare_v for_o fear_n of_o man_n superior_n and_o neighbour_n we_o know_v that_o how_o little_a so_o ever_o be_v require_v by_o the_o most_o undeniable_a authority_n of_o god_n himself_o yet_o every_o one_o of_o mankind_n will_v not_o regard_v it_o but_o this_o be_v yet_o great_o different_a to_o reject_v a_o commandment_n out_o of_o mere_a prophanesse_n as_o they_o do_v any_o of_o the_o rest_n and_o for_o which_o their_o conscience_n give_v they_o many_o nip_n now_o and_o will_v gnaw_v upon_o they_o eternal_o if_o they_o repent_v not_o and_o to_o reject_v it_o as_o a_o unsufferable_a burden_n which_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n now_o under_o the_o new_a testament_n can_v just_o be_v say_v to_o be_v and_o so_o what_o ever_o time_n be_v plead_v for_o as_o god_n commandment_n now_o we_o grant_v and_o assert_v that_o the_o proportion_n of_o it_o as_o we_o say_v must_v appear_v to_o be_v undeniable_a necessary_a and_o according_o though_o in_o another_o place_n we_o shall_v more_o full_o argue_v it_o yet_o here_o we_o propound_v again_o to_o the_o reader_n conscience_n this_o question_n whether_o out_o of_o the_o proportion_n of_o seven_o day_n which_o contain_v 168._o hour_n the_o wake_a time_n of_o one_o day_n which_o be_v ordinary_o with_o most_o man_n but_o fourteen_o or_o sixteen_o hour_n or_o suppose_v it_o eighten_v or_o twenty_o or_o even_o the_o whole_a twenty_o four_o be_v too_o large_a a_o proportion_n for_o the_o chief_a solemn_a time_n for_o all_o man_n to_o attend_v the_o worship_n of_o god_n and_o the_o good_a eternal_a of_o their_o own_o soul_n and_o other_o and_o whether_o such_o a_o proportion_n at_o least_o be_v not_o necessary_a for_o all_o man_n to_o employ_v and_o also_o compatible_a certain_o with_o any_o worldly_a business_n we_o do_v not_o now_o argue_v how_o it_o shall_v be_v distribute_v between_o the_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n whether_o all_o the_o continuance_n to_o be_v in_o one_o day_n or_o two_o or_o more_o or_o every_o day_n to_o share_v alike_o that_o we_o have_v already_o do_v chap._n 8._o and_o show_v the_o whole_a proportion_n to_o be_v best_o all_o on_o one_o day_n but_o we_o say_v whether_o less_o than_o such_o a_o proportion_n in_o the_o whole_a can_v be_v sufficient_a for_o god_n honour_n and_o the_o soul_n salvation_n or_o this_o can_v be_v just_o except_v against_o as_o unnecessary_a and_o injurious_a if_o sober_a conscience_n put_v but_o
universal_a or_o peremptory_a determination_n of_o this_o continuance_n distributive_o between_o the_o solitary_a worship_n the_o family_n worship_n and_o the_o public_a worship_n that_o be_v there_o be_v no_o need_n that_o all_o man_n shall_v be_v bind_v to_o such_o a_o exact_a or_o strict_a continuance_n in_o each_o of_o these_o single_a but_o so_o the_o whole_a continuance_n be_v share_v between_o all_o three_o and_o the_o public_a be_v not_o so_o short_a as_o to_o afford_v no_o remarkable_a space_n for_o a_o affect_a prayer_n and_o preach_v and_o the_o like_a and_o so_o no_o remarkable_a benefit_n to_o be_v get_v by_o it_o nor_o so_o long_o as_o to_o tire_v out_o the_o spirit_n and_o disappoint_v those_o that_o dwell_v far_o off_o of_o conveniency_n of_o return_n to_o their_o family_n and_o solitary_a devotion_n beside_o the_o regard_n of_o bodily_a necessity_n it_o can_v hardly_o be_v blame_v though_o some_o be_v long_o and_o some_o short_a in_o public_a and_o so_o in_o the_o rest_n for_o as_o much_o as_o god_n still_o have_v and_o so_o also_o every_a one_o soul_n have_v the_o full_a continuance_n determine_v and_o allot_v which_o conscionable_o observe_v in_o the_o variety_n of_o those_o duty_n may_v be_v and_o will_v be_v ordinary_o sufficient_a for_o their_o conscience_n and_o soul_n good_a and_o so_o acceptable_a to_o god_n though_o sometime_o more_o of_o the_o time_n be_v spend_v in_o public_a and_o sometime_o more_o in_o private_a and_o so_o at_o last_o we_o have_v do_v with_o the_o proof_n of_o the_o necessity_n of_o such_o a_o chief_a solemn_a time_n to_o be_v determine_v for_o the_o necessary_a and_o ordinary_o sufficient_a time_n for_o all_o man_n it_o remain_v that_o now_o in_o the_o last_o place_n we_o come_v to_o argue_v by_o who_o this_o determination_n must_v be_v or_o may_v be_v make_v but_o for_o that_o the_o next_o chapter_n be_v purposely_o reserve_v this_o have_v be_v already_o draw_v out_o to_o a_o more_o than_o ordinary_a length_n through_o the_o necessary_a dependence_n of_o so_o many_o matter_n contain_v in_o it_o and_o yet_o there_o be_v one_o thing_n behind_o for_o the_o close_a of_o this_o chapter_n season_n lii_o how_o far_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n command_v about_o the_o quando_fw-la or_o season_n and_o that_o be_v a_o brief_a discourse_n about_o the_o quando_fw-la season_n or_o order_n of_o beginning_n when_o once_o the_o former_a determination_n be_v conclusive_o settle_v for_o the_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n of_o the_o chief_a solemn_a time_n how_o far_o the_o law_n or_o light_n of_o nature_n will_v guide_v or_o command_v about_o this_o or_o any_o general_a rule_n of_o scripture_n leave_v the_o question_n by_o who_o it_o also_o be_v to_o be_v determine_v unto_o the_o follow_a chapter_n and_o here_o only_o touch_v in_o a_o few_o word_n for_o many_o will_v not_o need_v about_o it_o it_o have_v no_o such_o substantial_a profit_n as_o the_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n towards_o religion_n but_o only_o accidental_a as_o be_v needful_a to_o be_v again_o and_o again_o inculcate_v to_o our_o adversary_n who_o will_v cast_v off_o all_o that_o be_v heretofore_o determine_v by_o god_n because_o this_o be_v take_v away_o touch_v we_o say_v how_o far_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o there_o be_v any_o determination_n strict_o and_o conclusive_o of_o the_o quando_fw-la season_n or_o order_n of_o beginning_n that_o be_v for_o the_o particular_a day_n of_o that_o number_n that_o be_v determine_v for_o the_o chief_a time_n of_o worship_n and_o even_o of_o the_o begin_n of_o that_o day_n soon_o or_o late_a at_o evening_n or_o morning_n this_o or_o that_o hour_n now_o this_o i_o shall_v dispatch_v in_o four_o proposition_n 1._o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n that_o some_o particular_a day_n of_o such_o a_o number_n determine_v be_v determine_v before_o that_o number_n can_v be_v constant_o observe_v 2._o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n that_o to_o all_o that_o live_v within_o the_o reach_n one_o of_o another_o and_o so_o may_v possible_o be_v help_n one_o to_o another_o or_o hindrance_n one_o to_o another_o the_o same_o particular_a day_n of_o such_o a_o number_n be_v determine_v and_o so_o far_o at_o least_o the_o same_o season_n of_o begin_v the_o day_n that_o all_o may_v afford_v convenient_a help_n to_o each_o other_o and_o none_o prove_v hindrance_n one_o to_o the_o other_o 3._o it_o seem_v most_o consonant_a to_o the_o law_n and_o light_n of_o nature_n and_o scripture-reason_n that_o unless_o god_n determine_v it_o otherwise_o himself_o the_o beginning_n of_o the_o day_n shall_v be_v in_o the_o morning_n that_o be_v after_o midnight_n rather_o than_o in_o the_o evening_n before_o 4._o it_o seem_v great_o conducible_a to_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n from_o all_o mankind_n and_o to_o the_o general_a communion_n of_o saint_n all_o the_o world_n over_o that_o the_o same_o particular_a day_n of_o such_o a_o number_n shall_v be_v determine_v to_o all_o man_n of_o the_o same_o age_n that_o be_v from_z adam_z to_o christ_n and_o the_o same_o from_o christ_n to_o the_o world_n end_n all_o the_o world_n over_o to_o observe_v it_o according_a as_o that_o day_n begin_v with_o they_o in_o the_o country_n where_o they_o live_v and_o be_v determine_v liii_o 1._o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o some_o day_n one_o day_n in_o ten_o be_v determine_v it_o thence_o inevitable_o follow_v that_o the_o very_a neglect_n of_o determine_v another_o particular_a day_n make_v the_o determination_n fall_v upon_o the_o last_o of_o the_o ten_o for_o when_o all_o the_o other_o nine_o be_v slip_v over_o and_o none_o of_o they_o determine_v the_o last_o of_o the_o ten_o avoidable_a must_v be_v observe_v the_o first_o revolution_n and_o withal_o remain_v for_o ever_o after_o determine_v unless_o a_o new_a day_n be_v afterward_o determine_v by_o as_o sufficient_a authority_n as_o be_v in_o the_o determiner_n of_o the_o number_n and_o then_o also_o without_o a_o alteration_n of_o the_o determination_n of_o the_o number_n the_o new_a determination_n can_v only_o be_v place_v upon_o one_o particular_a day_n namely_o the_o first_o of_o the_o ten_o and_o so_o if_o it_o be_v do_v by_o sufficient_a authority_n it_o may_v be_v do_v without_o any_o violation_n or_o alteration_n of_o the_o determination_n of_o the_o number_n at_o all_o for_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o determination_n of_o the_o number_n lie_v in_o these_o thing_n 1._o that_o there_o shall_v be_v but_o one_o day_n for_o religion_n to_o nine_o for_o worldly_a business_n and_o again_o but_o nine_o for_o worldly_a business_n to_o one_o for_o religion_n and_o neither_o more_o nor_o less_o either_o way_n ordinary_o 2._o that_o those_o nine_o day_n be_v the_o number_n of_o work_a day_n shall_v come_v all_o together_o and_o the_o day_n for_o religion_n not_o come_v between_o they_o for_o then_o sometime_o there_o will_v be_v less_o than_o nine_o together_o and_o sometime_o more_o now_o this_o be_v observe_v plain_o and_o undeniable_o in_o both_o respect_n in_o the_o instance_a change_n from_o the_o ten_o day_n to_o the_o first_o day_n for_o in_o those_o two_o revolution_n of_o twice_o ten_o day_n there_o be_v but_o two_o day_n for_o religion_n the_o last_o of_o the_o first_o ten_o and_o the_o first_o of_o the_o latter_a ten_o and_o there_o be_v twice_o nine_o day_n for_o worldly_a business_n and_o in_o each_o revolution_n either_o number_n of_o nine_o worldly_a day_n be_v entire_o all_o together_o and_o the_o day_n for_o religion_n come_v not_o in_o to_o break_v the_o number_n as_o they_o will_v do_v if_o the_o second_o day_n be_v determine_v for_o then_o there_o will_v be_v one_o day_n for_o work_v only_o and_o the_o next_o for_o religion_n and_o so_o not_o nine_o work-daye_n together_o and_o again_o if_o the_o nine_o day_n be_v determine_v then_o there_o will_v have_v be_v in_o that_o revolution_n but_o eight_o day_n together_o for_o work_n and_o a_o nine_o not_o a_o ten_o objection_n objection_n according_a to_o the_o determination_n former_o settle_v for_o the_o number_n observe_v for_o religion_n if_o any_o say_v that_o this_o will_v be_v how_o ever_o but_o for_o once_o and_o that_o be_v no_o great_a matter_n special_o if_o religion_n lose_v nothing_o by_o it_o as_o by_o bring_v the_o day_n soon_o it_o will_v not_o we_o answer_v it_o be_v true_a if_o the_o authority_n be_v sufficient_a answer_n answer_n to_o change_v the_o number_n the_o matter_n be_v not_o of_o importance_n but_o if_o the_o to_o our_o four_o and_o last_o proposition_n about_o the_o particular_a day_n to_o be_v determine_v for_o the_o chief_a solemn_a time_n namely_o that_o it_o seem_v great_o conducible_a to_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n from_o all_o mankind_n and_o to_o the_o general_a communion_n of_o saint_n all_o the_o world_n over_o that_o the_o same_o particular_a day_n of_o such_o a_o number_n shall_v be_v determine_v to_o all_o man_n of_o the_o same_o age_n that_o be_v from_z adam_z to_o christ_n and_o the_o same_o from_o christ_n to_o the_o world_n end_n all_o the_o world_n over_o to_o observe_v it_o day_n natural_a be_v every_o one_o of_o they_o every_o where_o worship_a god_n in_o the_o most_o solemn_a manner_n public_o or_o private_o with_o other_o as_o they_o can_v have_v other_o to_o join_v with_o they_o in_o place_n or_o at_o least_o solitary_o and_o alone_o and_o tender_v to_o he_o not_o only_o the_o same_o proportion_n of_o time_n for_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n the_o same_o number_n of_o day_n one_o as_o well_o as_o another_o every_o where_o namely_o their_o wake_a time_n as_o be_v say_v before_o but_o also_o the_o same_o particular_a day_n according_a as_o the_o day_n fall_v out_o with_o they_o then_o which_o of_o all_o thing_n that_o be_v any_o way_n belong_v to_o the_o outward_a worship_n of_o god_n there_o be_v not_o any_o one_o thing_n as_o we_o conceive_v that_o can_v make_v his_o worship_n more_o solemn_a and_o celebrious_a nor_o redound_v more_o to_o his_o honour_n strike_v all_o man_n that_o be_v yet_o but_o stranger_n to_o he_o and_o much_o more_o his_o profess_a servant_n with_o a_o marvellous_a awe_n of_o his_o service_n and_o that_o none_o shall_v dare_v to_o rob_v he_o of_o his_o sacred_a time_n which_o he_o so_o universal_o require_v of_o all_o mankind_n not_o only_o for_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n but_o also_o for_o the_o season_n and_o order_n of_o the_o day_n and_o beginning_n of_o the_o day_n prevent_v a_o objection_n prevent_v and_o if_o any_o shall_v now_o object_v that_o this_o reason_n will_v enforce_v or_o infer_v the_o same_o particular_a day_n from_o the_o world_n beginning_n to_o the_o world_n end_n and_o that_o there_o shall_v not_o be_v one_o particular_a day_n or_o beginning_n of_o the_o day_n from_o adam_n to_o christ_n and_o another_o particular_a day_n or_o beginning_n of_o the_o day_n from_o christ_n to_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n to_o this_o we_o answer_v first_o that_o we_o never_o do_v nor_o never_o do_v intend_v to_o dispute_v against_o god_n and_o therefore_o whatever_o we_o but_o the_o same_o particular_a day_n and_o begin_v of_o the_o day_n as_o near_o as_o be_v possible_a by_o reason_n of_o the_o variety_n of_o the_o climate_n that_o as_o often_o as_o that_o particular_a day_n come_v about_o every_o one_o of_o they_o where_o ever_o they_o be_v or_o with_o whosoever_o do_v either_o public_o in_o congregation_n if_o it_o may_v be_v 8._o it_o be_v certain_a
