not_o suffer_v but_o the_o same_o person_n that_o be_v god_n as_o well_o as_o man_n he_o do_v suffer_v it_o be_v the_o scripture_n phrase_n clear_o and_o i_o may_v give_v you_o many_o text_n of_o scripture_n to_o show_v you_o that_o that_o person_n that_o be_v god_n suffer_v but_o that_o be_v enough_o they_o crucify_v the_o lord_n of_o glory_n 1_o cor._n 2.8_o but_o you_o will_v say_v to_o what_o great_a purpose_n be_v it_o for_o we_o to_o understand_v this_o that_o christ_n be_v god_n and_o man_n in_o one_o person_n be_v it_o not_o enough_o to_o understand_v that_o he_o be_v god_n and_o man_n what_o need_v we_o look_v so_o much_o at_o the_o union_n of_o the_o two_o nature_n my_o brethren_n know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n in_o this_o in_o know_v the_o union_n of_o the_o two_o nature_n it_o be_v of_o marvellous_a use_n unto_o you_o for_o the_o help_a of_o your_o faith_n to_o know_v not_o only_o that_o christ_n have_v those_o two_o nature_n but_o the_o union_n of_o those_o two_o nature_n you_o will_v say_v how_o may_v it_o help_v our_o faith_n thus_o because_o hereby_o you_o may_v see_v that_o whatsoever_o christ_n do_v or_o suffer_v though_o but_o in_o his_o humane_a nature_n yet_o it_o be_v of_o infinite_a value_n and_o efficacy_n and_o the_o infinite_a value_n and_o efficacy_n of_o what_o christ_n do_v and_o suffer_v do_v arise_v from_o the_o union_n of_o the_o two_o nature_n because_o it_o be_v that_o person_n that_o be_v god_n do_v such_o thing_n and_o suffer_v such_o thing_n i_o remember_v i_o myself_o once_o know_v a_o very_a godly_a man_n in_o the_o time_n of_o his_o sickness_n be_v in_o a_o great_a agony_n under_o a_o very_a great_a temptation_n and_o at_o midnight_n send_v a_o mile_n or_o two_o for_o a_o minister_n and_o he_o come_v to_o he_o and_o this_o be_v his_o temptation_n fear_v he_o shall_v die_v man_n a_o temptation_n of_o the_o devil_n to_o a_o godly_a man_n and_o the_o devil_n come_v with_o this_o temptation_n why_o thy_o sin_n do_v deserve_v a_o infinite_a punishment_n thou_o have_v sin_v against_o a_o infinite_a god_n and_o thou_o do_v deserve_v eternal_a death_n but_o christ_n in_o who_o you_o have_v how_o can_v he_o by_o suffer_v that_o that_o be_v but_o finite_a by_o endure_v a_o little_a while_n pain_n upon_o the_o cross_n and_o by_o be_v under_o death_n but_o a_o day_n or_o two_o how_o can_v he_o deliver_v you_o from_o a_o infinite_a suffering_n and_o from_o eternal_a death_n this_o be_v the_o temptation_n that_o lie_v upon_o he_o and_o he_o be_v in_o a_o most_o lamentable_a agony_n of_o spirit_n upon_o this_o temptation_n but_o now_o in_o his_o call_n to_o mind_n this_o that_o though_o christ_n in_o his_o humane_a nature_n be_v but_o finite_a and_o that_o that_o he_o suffer_v can_v be_v but_o finite_a yet_o because_o his_o humane_a nature_n be_v unite_v in_o one_o person_n unto_o the_o divine_a nature_n hence_o what_o the_o humane_a nature_n do_v suffer_v though_o finite_a come_v to_o be_v of_o infinite_a value_n and_o worth_n and_o though_o his_o death_n that_o he_o be_v under_o be_v but_o for_o a_o day_n or_o two_o yet_o it_o be_v of_o merit_n sufficient_a to_o ransom_n from_o eternal_a death_n because_o the_o person_n that_o be_v god_n as_o well_o as_o man_n be_v under_o the_o power_n of_o death_n and_o by_o recall_v what_o he_o have_v hear_v heretofore_o about_o christ_n be_v god_n and_o man_n in_o one_o person_n he_o come_v to_o be_v ease_v and_o the_o temptation_n begin_v to_o vanish_v and_o the_o truth_n be_v there_o be_v no_o way_n that_o i_o know_v of_o to_o satisfy_v one_o heart_n and_o conscience_n in_o the_o sufficiency_n of_o christ_n merit_n but_o in_o this_o that_o it_o be_v the_o merit_n of_o he_o that_o be_v both_o god_n and_o man_n in_o one_o person_n it_o be_v true_a those_o that_o do_v not_o see_v a_o necessity_n of_o a_o infinite_a merit_n they_o can_v easy_o satisfy_v themselves_o and_o say_v they_o believe_v in_o christ_n jesus_n that_o die_v for_o they_o ay_o but_o how_o can_v thou_o tell_v that_o this_o death_n of_o jesus_n christ_n be_v of_o infinite_a merit_n to_o satisfy_v the_o infinite_a justice_n of_o god_n that_o require_v satisfaction_n for_o thy_o sin_n why_o god_n have_v so_o appoint_v it_o and_o i_o hope_v in_o god_n it_o be_v so_o but_o if_o thou_o can_v see_v the_o ground_n of_o this_o that_o will_v be_v a_o marvellous_a help_n to_o thy_o faith_n that_o thou_o can_v look_v upon_o thy_o mediator_n as_o god_n and_o man_n in_o one_o person_n and_o therefore_o thou_o can_v look_v upon_o whatsoever_o he_o have_v do_v or_o suffer_v as_o of_o infinite_a value_n and_o so_o thou_o can_v present_v it_o with_o boldness_n unto_o god_n the_o right_a understanding_n of_o christ_n thus_o will_v christ_n the_o glory_n of_o god_n mercy_n appear_v in_o christ_n and_o so_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n mercy_n and_o goodness_n be_v more_o in_o christ_n than_o any_o other_o thing_n we_o enjoy_v these_o outward_a comfort_n as_o a_o fruit_n of_o the_o bounty_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n i_o but_o what_o be_v all_o these_o to_o all_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o his_o son_n i_o remember_v a_o learned_a man_n compare_v all_o the_o good_a thing_n we_o receive_v from_o god_n from_o his_o general_a bounty_n and_o providence_n and_o his_o love_n and_o mercy_n that_o appear_v in_o christ_n with_o a_o few_o spark_n that_o come_v out_o of_o a_o burn_a furnace_n and_o the_o heat_n of_o it_o within_o look_v what_o difference_n there_o be_v between_o they_o such_o difference_n be_v there_o between_o the_o love_n of_o god_n to_o we_o in_o all_o the_o comfort_n in_o this_o world_n and_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n god_n he_o will_v have_v a_o argument_n to_o manifest_v and_o there_o be_v the_o great_a difficulty_n for_o god_n to_o fulfil_v this_o promise_n of_o any_o thing_n that_o ever_o god_n do_v promise_v and_o indeed_o when_o as_o we_o hear_v that_o christ_n be_v promise_v some_o four_o thousand_o year_n before_o he_o come_v into_o the_o world_n and_o yet_o at_o length_n he_o come_v into_o the_o world_n it_o be_v a_o good_a argument_n to_o teach_v we_o never_o to_o doubt_v of_o the_o fulfil_n of_o god_n promise_n and_o indeed_o the_o right_a apprehension_n of_o god_n faithfulness_n in_o this_o great_a promise_n of_o his_o son_n will_v mighty_o strengthen_v the_o faith_n of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n to_o believe_v any_o small_a promise_n and_o not_o to_o stagger_v in_o they_o and_o the_o reason_n why_o people_n be_v so_o ready_a to_o stagger_v in_o their_o belief_n about_o small_a promise_n it_o be_v because_o they_o have_v not_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o work_n of_o faith_n in_o believe_v that_o great_a promise_n that_o god_n make_v with_o his_o people_n in_o send_v his_o son_n into_o the_o world_n so_o that_o these_o attribute_n with_o all_o other_o do_v shine_v glorious_o in_o christ_n no_o marvel_n then_o though_o the_o angel_n upon_o the_o birth_n of_o christ_n they_o cry_v out_o glory_n be_v to_o god_n on_o high_a as_o if_o they_o shall_v say_v oh_o lord_n here_o be_v one_o come_v into_o the_o world_n wherein_o thy_o glory_n do_v appear_v and_o by_o who_o thou_o shall_v have_v glory_n to_o all_o eternity_n though_o christ_n be_v but_o a_o babe_n in_o the_o manger_n yet_o the_o angel_n do_v see_v more_o and_o what_o the_o riches_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o inheritance_n in_o the_o saint_n and_o what_o be_v the_o exceed_a greatness_n of_o his_o power_n to_o us-ward_n who_o believe_v and_o in_o
