their_o sin_n lie_v steal_v drunkenness_n swear_v murder_n and_o adultery_n none_o of_o all_o this_o according_a to_o this_o wicked_a doctrine_n do_v prove_v they_o to_o be_v no_o saint_n or_o that_o they_o have_v not_o true_a faith_n and_o therefore_o if_o they_o die_v in_o these_o gross_a sin_n they_o must_v go_v to_o heaven_n immediate_o because_o they_o shall_v die_v in_o faith_n they_o shall_v die_v sanctify_v and_o justify_v man_n than_o which_o i_o know_v no_o great_a confusion_n and_o daub_v with_o untempered_a mortar_n and_o sew_v pillow_n under_o people_n armhole_n like_o the_o false_a teacher_n of_o old_a and_o prophesy_v smooth_a thing_n unto_o people_n in_o their_o sin_n and_o flatter_v they_o yea_o imboldn_v and_o encourage_v they_o to_o sin_n and_o no_o doubt_n many_o be_v woeful_o embolden_v and_o encourage_v to_o run_v into_o sin_n and_o excess_n of_o sin_n by_o such_o poisonous_a doctrine_n that_o these_o false_a teacher_n feed_v they_o with_o that_o be_v like_o sweet_a poison_n that_o though_o it_o be_v sweet_a to_o the_o flesh_n yet_o it_o kill_v the_o soul_n do_v not_o the_o scripture_n say_v the_o soul_n that_o sin_v shall_v die_v and_o the_o wage_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n and_o as_o every_o sin_n do_v in_o some_o measure_n kill_v the_o soul_n so_o great_a sin_n such_o as_o murder_n and_o adultery_n than_o which_o we_o can_v hardly_o suppose_v any_o great_a unless_o that_o unpardonable_a sin_n of_o blasphemy_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n do_v whole_o kill_v and_o destroy_v the_o soul_n insomuch_o that_o if_o any_o such_o soul_n ever_o be_v save_v it_o must_v be_v by_o a_o new_a creation_n and_o renew_v and_o of_o this_o david_n be_v well_o sensible_a when_o after_o god_n be_v please_v spiritual_o to_o visit_v and_o awaken_v he_o again_o he_o pray_v unto_o god_n say_v create_v in_o i_o a_o clean_a heart_n o_o god_n and_o renew_v a_o right_a spirit_n within_o i_o psal_n 51.10_o and_o thus_o according_a to_o these_o false_a teacher_n there_o be_v no_o mortal_a sin_n that_o any_o soul_n once_o quicken_v in_o the_o least_o degree_n can_v commit_v and_o the_o same_o sin_n that_o be_v mortal_a in_o the_o unbeliever_n be_v not_o mortal_a in_o he_o that_o once_o be_v a_o believer_n as_o murder_n adultery_n yea_o incest_n or_o worse_o be_v no_o mortal_a sin_n in_o one_o and_o yet_o be_v a_o mortal_a sin_n in_o the_o other_o do_v not_o this_o loose_a the_o reins_o to_o all_o sort_n of_o wickedness_n and_o make_v god_n a_o respecter_n of_o person_n and_o faith_n a_o sort_n of_o proof_n that_o though_o man_n once_o have_v faith_n commit_v the_o worst_a sort_n of_o sin_n as_o murder_n adultery_n incest_n rapine_n yet_o their_o faith_n be_v a_o sort_n of_o proof_n unto_o they_o that_o none_o of_o these_o sin_n do_v or_o can_v kill_v they_o they_o be_v still_o saint_n for_o all_o this_o and_o justify_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n and_o if_o saint_n then_o good_a enough_o to_o be_v your_o church-member_n yea_o member_n of_o the_o independent_a or_o congregational_a church_n why_o what_o do_v hinder_v but_o they_o be_v as_o real_a and_o lawful_a member_n of_o the_o church_n as_o any_o other_o and_o if_o murderer_n and_o adulterer_n while_o such_o be_v still_o saint_n and_o qualify_v to_o be_v your_o church-member_n it_o be_v no_o wonder_n that_o your_o church_n be_v large_a and_o have_v a_o great_a number_n of_o member_n it_o be_v no_o great_a difficulty_n to_o be_v a_o member_n of_o that_o church_n when_o a_o murderer_n a_o adulterer_n can_v be_v a_o member_n of_o it_o be_v this_o your_o pretence_n to_o reformation_n and_o why_o you_o estimate_v your_o church_n more_o holy_a than_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n but_o be_v not_o your_o church_n and_o doctrine_n in_o this_o respect_n much_o more_o unholy_a for_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n say_v all_o gross_a or_o great_a sin_n as_o fornication_n adultery_n murder_n and_o the_o like_a be_v real_o mortal_a sin_n in_o all_o that_o commit_v they_o without_o respect_n of_o person_n and_o whoever_o commit_v such_o sin_n be_v fall_v from_o their_o state_n in_o grace_n and_o so_o say_v the_o scripture_n 1_o cor._n 6.9_o 10._o be_v not_o deceive_v neither_o fornicator_n nor_o idolater_n nor_o adulterer_n etc._n etc._n shall_v inherit_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n the_o which_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v a_o state_n of_o grace_n to_o this_o westminster_n and_o new-england_n confession_n of_o faith_n fornicator_n and_o murderer_n and_o adulterer_n that_o have_v at_o any_o time_n once_o believe_v do_v still_o inherit_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n to_o wit_n a_o state_n of_o grace_n which_o be_v in_o a_o true_a sense_n the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n and_o be_v frequent_o so_o call_v in_o scripture_n and_o thus_o it_o do_v most_o evident_o appear_v that_o their_o doctrine_n in_o this_o particular_a be_v antichristian_a and_o contrary_a to_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n and_o to_o say_v that_o murder_n or_o adultery_n in_o he_o that_o have_v once_o true_o believe_v be_v not_o a_o mortal_a or_o kill_a sin_n but_o be_v a_o mortal_a sin_n in_o he_o that_o have_v not_o believe_v be_v not_o only_o to_o make_v god_n a_o respecter_n of_o person_n in_o the_o worst_a sense_n
but_o to_o extenuate_v the_o sin_n in_o the_o believer_n and_o to_o aggravate_v it_o in_o the_o unbeliever_n contrary_a to_o the_o scripture_n testimony_n which_o do_v aggravate_v any_o sin_n that_o man_n have_v once_o believe_v fall_v into_o more_o than_o in_o unbeliever_n as_o be_v clear_a from_o 2_o pet._n 2.20_o 21._o 2._o and_o as_o for_o the_o scripture_n they_o bring_v in_o their_o say_a confession_n to_o prove_v their_o false_a doctrine_n let_v they_o be_v impartial_o examine_v and_o they_o will_v be_v find_v to_o prove_v no_o such_o thing_n some_o of_o they_o be_v express_o conditional_a as_o that_o in_o 2_o pet._n 1.10_o for_o if_o you_o do_v these_o thing_n you_o shall_v never_o fall_v here_o it_o be_v only_o promise_v conditional_o but_o not_o absolute_o that_o they_o shall_v not_o fall_v to_o wit_n if_o they_o give_v all_o diligence_n to_o add_v to_o their_o faith_n virtue_n etc._n etc._n verse_n 5._o and_o this_o serve_v they_o not_o only_o from_o fall_v total_o but_o from_o fall_v indefinite_o or_o universal_o so_o as_o not_o at_o all_o to_o fall_v for_o he_o say_v not_o you_o shall_v not_o fall_v total_o but_o you_o shall_v not_o fall_v and_o there_o be_v many_o other_o scripture_n that_o though_o they_o do_v not_o express_o mention_v the_o condition_n yet_o do_v imply_v it_o and_o be_v to_o be_v expound_v by_o other_o scripture_n that_o do_v express_v it_o 3._o it_o be_v ready_o and_o willing_o grant_v that_o there_o be_v a_o state_n in_o holiness_n or_o sanctification_n that_o may_v be_v attain_v and_o grow_v up_o into_o wherein_o man_n can_v fall_v away_o total_o from_o a_o state_n of_o grace_n but_o as_o they_o can_v fall_v away_o total_o so_o they_o can_v commit_v any_o gross_a or_o great_a sin_n which_o in_o the_o scripture_n phrase_n be_v common_o call_v sin_n to_o wit_n a_o heinous_a sin_n or_o crime_n which_o john_n call_v a_o sin_n unto_o death_n 1_o john_n 5.16_o 17._o and_o here_o he_o distinguish_v betwixt_o a_o sin_n unto_o death_n and_o a_o sin_n that_o be_v not_o unto_o death_n viz._n that_o do_v not_o total_o slay_v the_o soul_n life_n but_o wound_v it_o and_o kill_v only_o in_o part_n as_o some_o small_a wander_a or_o evagation_n of_o mind_n or_o give_v way_n through_o slacken_v the_o watch_n unto_o a_o vain_a thought_n for_o some_o small_a time_n something_o of_o anger_n or_o passion_n upon_o some_o sudden_a or_o comfort_n or_o reward_n that_o be_v of_o a_o inferior_a nature_n to_o hate_v and_o fear_v sin_n more_o than_o all_o punishment_n for_o sin_n to_o have_v no_o inward_a inclination_n or_o desire_v to_o revenge_v injury_n but_o most_o willing_o and_o hearty_o to_o forgive_v and_o bear_v they_o to_o love_v enemy_n from_o the_o very_a inward_a ground_n and_o bottom_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o always_o to_o render_v

rest_v in_o by_o any_o but_o there_o ought_v to_o be_v a_o continual_a progress_n by_o the_o best_a in_o holiness_n and_o in_o conformity_n to_o the_o image_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n until_o the_o very_a last_o moment_n of_o their_o life_n for_o christ_n himself_o who_o be_v free_a from_o all_o sin_n yet_o be_v perfect_v further_o as_o he_o be_v man_n and_o do_v grow_v both_o in_o grace_n and_o thing_n they_o may_v a_o little_a fall_n short_a as_o a_o most_o love_a child_n not_o perfect_o understand_v the_o father_n mind_n in_o all_o thing_n may_v do_v a_o thing_n amiss_o and_o yet_o without_o breach_n of_o true_a love_n to_o his_o father_n and_o therefore_o his_o father_n do_v not_o charge_v it_o upon_o he_o as_o a_o crime_n and_o the_o like_a example_n may_v be_v of_o a_o most_o love_a wife_n to_o her_o husband_n who_o retain_v her_o chaste_a and_o perfect_a love_n to_o her_o husband_n and_o yet_o may_v do_v some_o thing_n not_o according_a to_o his_o mind_n for_o as_o the_o scripture_n say_v love_n be_v the_o fulfil_n of_o the_o law_n and_o he_o that_o fail_v not_o in_o his_o love_n and_o transgress_v not_o against_o the_o law_n of_o love_n though_o in_o some_o case_n he_o may_v fall_v short_a in_o understanding_n god_n do_v not_o impute_v it_o to_o be_v a_o crime_n unto_o he_o 4_o thly_a it_o be_v not_o temptation_n or_o motion_n unto_o sin_n that_o may_v arise_v either_o from_o the_o devil_n or_o
so_o a_o church_n or_o assembly_n of_o people_n only_o profess_v the_o true_a religion_n but_o have_v nothing_o of_o the_o true_a life_n and_o spirit_n of_o christ_n and_o who_o outward_a and_o bodily_a service_n and_o work_n have_v no_o inward_a and_o spiritual_a virtue_n and_o life_n in_o they_o which_o be_v that_o salt_n that_o make_v they_o savoury_a and_o do_v recommend_v they_o unto_o god_n so_o that_o he_o savour_v a_o sweet_a savour_n in_o they_o can_v be_v true_o and_o just_o account_v a_o true_a church_n of_o christ_n for_o we_o no_o where_o find_v in_o scripture_n any_o society_n or_o company_n of_o people_n call_v the_o church_n of_o christ_n who_o have_v nothing_o but_o the_o profession_n of_o the_o true_a religion_n and_o although_o hypocrite_n and_o mere_a among_o the_o church_n of_o corinth_n and_o gulatia_n etc._n etc._n yet_o these_o hypocrite_n and_o mere_a formalist_n who_o have_v only_o the_o form_n but_o have_v nothing_o of_o the_o power_n and_o life_n of_o true_a religion_n be_v no_o part_n of_o the_o true_a church_n no_o more_o than_o chaff_n or_o tare_n that_o be_v mix_v with_o wheat_n be_v any_o part_n of_o the_o wheat_n or_o dross_n that_o be_v mix_v with_o silver_n be_v any_o part_n of_o the_o silver_n or_o old_a leaven_n that_o be_v mix_v with_o the_o new_a dough_n be_v any_o part_n of_o it_o and_o therefore_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v the_o work_n of_o all_o the_o true_a member_n of_o the_o true_a church_n to_o purge_v out_o the_o old_a leaven_n and_o to_o be_v a_o separate_a people_n from_o all_o these_o that_o have_v only_o
