when_o the_o lord_n take_v away_o such_o minister_n who_o doctrine_n be_v sound_a and_o their_o life_n exemplary_a holy_a you_o will_v then_o be_v due_o apprehensive_a and_o deep_o sensible_a both_o of_o the_o inflict_a cause_n and_o also_o of_o the_o meritorious_a deserve_a cause_n thereof_o 1._o for_o the_o inflict_a cause_n and_o that_o be_v the_o lord_n himself_o isa_n 3.1_o 2_o who_o be_v it_o that_o take_v away_o from_o the_o people_n the_o natural_a staff_n and_o the_o civil_a staff_n the_o spiritual_a staff_n say_v the_o prophet_n the_o lord_n the_o lord_n of_o host_n whoever_o it_o be_v that_o be_v the_o instrument_n it_o be_v certain_a it_o be_v the_o lord_n himself_o that_o be_v the_o principal_a efficient_a cause_n of_o this_o judgement_n on_o a_o people_n and_o this_o will_v land_n of_o the_o live_n and_o thus_o the_o lord_n take_v away_o the_o prophet_n enoch_n gen._n 5.24_o and_o 2._o sometime_o by_o removal_n thus_o the_o lord_n take_v away_o the_o prophet_n ionas_n from_o israel_n and_o send_v he_o to_o niniveb_n as_o jona_n 1.2_o and_o thus_o paul_n and_o barnabas_n go_v away_o from_o the_o jew_n and_o turn_v to_o the_o gentile_n as_o act_n 13.4_o 3._o sometime_o by_o deprivation_n a_o time_n there_o be_v when_o the_o good_a priest_n and_o levite_n be_v force_v to_o flee_v their_o own_o place_n and_o possession_n 2_o chron._n 11.13_o 14._o 4._o there_o be_v when_o people_n will_v have_v pastor_n but_o will_v not_o endure_v faithful_a jeremiah_n and_o a_o time_n there_o be_v that_o there_o be_v a_o law_n make_v look_v you_o speak_v no_o compare_v why_o what_o be_v the_o matter_n as_o if_o they_o have_v say_v god_n be_v wont_v heretofore_o to_o give_v we_o sign_n and_o token_n he_o will_v even_o work_v miracle_n for_o we_o the_o lord_n will_v send_v we_o some_o prophet_n to_o converse_v with_o and_o instruct_v we_o we_o have_v those_o that_o can_v tell_v we_o how_o long_o our_o trouble_n shall_v last_v but_o now_o we_o see_v and_o we_o appeal_v to_o yourselves_o whether_o this_o judgement_n may_v not_o be_v charge_v 1._o from_o the_o general_a inflexibleness_n and_o untractableness_n of_o people_n under_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n for_o this_o very_a cause_n the_o lord_n plague_v and_o pour_v his_o vengeance_n upon_o the_o ten_o tribe_n as_o in_o 2_o king_n 17._o from_o v._o 13._o to_o 19_o the_o lord_n testify_v against_o isreal_n by_o all_o the_o prophet_n and_o by_o all_o the_o ster_n say_v turn_v you_o from_o your_o evil_a way_n notwithstanding_o they_o will_v not_o hear_v and_o for_o this_o very_a cause_n do_v the_o lord_n afterward_o plague_v all_o judah_n as_o jer._n 20.17_o 18_o 19_o and_o for_o this_o very_a reason_n do_v the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n remove_v paul_n from_o jerusalem_n because_o the_o people_n be_v a_o stiff-necked_a people_n and_o they_o will_v not_o receive_v paul_n testimony_n concern_v jesus_n as_o act_n 22_o 18._o paul_n have_v a_o great_a desire_n perish_v together_o everlasting_o 2._o the_o unfruitfulness_n formality_n lukewarmness_n decline_v of_o god_n own_o people_n and_o for_o this_o the_o lord_n threaten_v the_o church_n of_o ephesus_n rev._n 2.4_o 5._o i_o have_v say_v christ_n somewhat_o against_o thou_o thou_o have_v leave_v thy_o first_o love_n though_o not_o absolute_o for_o nature_n yet_o eminent_a for_o measure_n and_o can_v of_o god_n and_o be_v it_o not_o just_a with_o the_o lord_n to_o take_v away_o that_o abundance_n and_o choice_n of_o spiritual_n help_v a_o people_n have_v when_o they_o approve_v not_o of_o they_o yea_o when_o they_o undervalue_v and_o despise_v and_o abuse_v they_o oh_o the_o lord_n god_n help_v we_o all_o to_o affect_v our_o soul_n and_o lay_v ourselves_o low_a before_o his_o all-seeing_a majesty_n for_o our_o provoke_v he_o to_o do_v this_o and_o endeavour_v to_o be_v due_o apprehensive_a and_o deep_o sensible_a of_o the_o inflict_a cause_n and_o meritorious_a cause_n thereof_o 2._o take_v heed_n of_o a_o profane_a delight_n in_o loose_a lewd_a wicked_a dissolute_a minister_n and_o here_o we_o will_v premise_v two_o or_o three_o thing_n 1._o too_o many_o people_n be_v too_o ready_a to_o cavil_v at_o many_o minister_n without_o a_o cause_n the_o life_n of_o our_o bless_a lord_n and_o saviour_n be_v it_o not_o traduce_v do_v not_o some_o say_v he_o be_v a_o friend_n to_o publican_n and_o sinner_n we_o see_v christ_n be_v cavil_v at_o and_o quarrel_v with_o by_o some_o and_o thus_o
trust_n now_o i_o be_o leave_v of_o you_o 4._o here_o be_v the_o commendation_n of_o the_o trustee_n from_o the_o power_n and_o ability_n of_o he_o to_o manage_v this_o trust_n and_o this_o be_v express_v in_o two_o particular_n 1._o he_o be_v able_a to_o build_v up_o and_o then_o 2._o to_o give_v you_o a_o inheritance_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v i_o will_v leave_v you_o with_o such_o who_o be_v able_a to_o build_v you_o up_o i_o may_v raise_v a_o multitude_n of_o observation_n from_o the_o word_n as_o first_o of_o all_o doct._n 1._o that_o it_o shall_v he_o the_o care_n of_o a_o faithful_a minister_n when_o be_v be_v by_o the_o providence_n of_o god_n take_v from_o a_o people_n to_o recommend_v they_o to_o god_n and_o to_o the_o word_n of_o his_o grace_n 2._o as_o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o a_o faithful_a minister_n to_o do_v it_o so_o it_o be_v his_o comfort_n that_o be_v may_v do_v it_o that_o he_o may_v leave_v his_o people_n in_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n who_o be_v able_a to_o build_v they_o up_o in_o grace_n 3._o it_o may_v be_v the_o comfort_n of_o any_o church_n of_o christ_n that_o when_o they_o be_v deprive_v of_o faithful_a minister_n that_o yet_o they_o be_v lest_o in_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n 4._o though_o god_n can_v by_o his_o infinite_a power_n perfect_a grace_n and_o bring_v man_n to_o heaven_n without_o the_o use_n of_o mean_n yet_o we_o have_v no_o ground_n nor_o warrant_n to_o expect_v one_o or_o other_o but_o through_o the_o word_n of_o god_n grace_n 5._o and_o last_o though_o there_o be_v a_o glorious_a inheritance_n purchase_v and_o prepare_v by_o jesus_n christ_n yet_o it_o be_v to_o be_v expect_v by_o none_o but_o those_o that_o be_v build_v up_o and_o sanctify_a or_o thus_o none_o â—ust_z look_v for_o a_o labour_n among_o when_o he_o by_o the_o providence_n of_o god_n be_v take_v from_o they_o iâ—_n to_o commend_v they_o to_o god_n and_o to_o the_o word_n of_o his_o grace_n thus_o do_v our_o holy_a apostle_n when_o he_o be_v take_v from_o his_o people_n and_o left_a to_o preach_v to_o they_o no_o more_o he_o recommend_v they_o to_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n and_o thus_o do_v a_o great_a than_o st._n paul_n even_o jesus_n christ_n himself_o the_o great_a shepherd_n of_o the_o sheep_n as_o st._n peter_n call_v he_o when_o he_o be_v leave_v the_o world_n and_o can_v no_o long_o preach_v to_o they_o he_o commend_v they_o to_o god_n john_n 17.11_o and_o now_o say_v christ_n to_o his_o father_n i_o be_o no_o more_o in_o the_o world_n but_o these_o be_v in_o the_o world_n and_o i_o come_v to_o thou_o holy_a father_n keep_v through_o thy_o own_o name_n those_o who_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o that_o they_o may_v be_v one_o as_o we_o be_v and_o in_o the_o fourteen_o i_o have_v give_v you_o what_o it_o be_v in_o a_o minister_n to_o recommend_v his_o people_n to_o god_n 2._o what_o it_o be_v that_o he_o shall_v recommend_v they_o to_o god_n for_o 3._o why_o he_o shall_v be_v so_o careful_a to_o recommend_v they_o to_o god_n 4._o how_o he_o shall_v recommend_v they_o to_o god_n last_o apt_o it_o first_o it_o be_v to_o leave_v they_o in_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n to_o give_v they_o up_o unto_o god_n care_n and_o keep_n as_o i_o show_v you_o in_o the_o open_n of_o the_o word_n to_o recommend_v they_o to_o god_n be_v to_o do_v that_o for_o they_o effectual_o which_o he_o especial_o every_o faithful_a minister_n endeavour_n to_o do_v while_o he_o be_v among_o his_o people_n 1._o their_o conversion_n and_o sanctification_n 2._o their_o building_n and_o edification_n 3._o their_o protection_n and_o preservation_n 4._o their_o comfort_n and_o consolation_n first_o their_o conversion_n and_o turn_n to_o god_n this_o be_v that_o a_o faithful_a minister_n heart_n be_v set_v upon_o that_o he_o may_v convert_v poor_a soul_n that_o be_v in_o a_o sinful_a state_n that_o he_o may_v turn_v poor_a soul_n to_o god_n that_o by_o often_o preach_v and_o pray_v and_o counsel_n he_o may_v bring_v they_o into_o a_o state_n of_o salvation_n rom._n 10.1_o the_o apostle_n there_o speak_v of_o the_o roman_n that_o they_o be_v the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o profession_n ah_o but_o this_o be_v not_o enough_o fain_o he_o will_v that_o they_o shall_v be_v the_o people_n of_o god-in_a truth_n that_o be_v the_o hearty_a desire_n of_o every_o faithful_a minister_n not_o only_o to_o bring_v his_o people_n to_o the_o outward_a profession_n of_o godliness_n but_o to_o the_o work_n and_o power_n of_o it_o in_o their_o heart_n not_o only_o to_o have_v the_o name_n of_o christian_a but_o christianity_n itself_o and_o this_o be_v the_o end_n of_o all_o his_o study_v to_o get_v they_o to_o god_n by_o little_a and_o little_a till_o christ_n be_v form_v in_o they_o gal._n 4.11_o my_o little_a child_n say_v the_o apostle_n etc._n etc._n s._n paul_n travel_v in_o birth_n with_o the_o galathian_o from_o a_o state_n of_o nature_n to_o a_o state_n of_o grace_n he_o will_v get_v grace_n wrought_v in_o their_o heart_n he_o will_v get_v they_o ingraff_v into_o christ_n and_o this_o be_v the_o end_n of_o his_o commend_v they_o to_o god_n which_o he_o will_v fain_o have_v do_v if_o he_o may_v have_v be_v suffer_v to_o preach_v to_o they_o this_o be_v the_o language_n of_o a_o minister_n heart_n lord_n lord_n thou_o know_v that_o it_o be_v the_o desire_n of_o my_o soul_n that_o every_o one_o of_o this_o people_n shall_v be_v make_v holy_a by_o thy_o word_n i_o will_v fain_o have_v beget_v they_o by_o the_o ministry_n to_o jesus_n christ_n but_o now_o by_o the_o providence_n of_o god_n i_o be_o take_v off_o before_o my_o work_n be_v do_v and_o thou_o see_v yet_o there_o be_v a_o great_a many_o in_o the_o gall_n of_o bitterness_n and_o the_o bond_n of_o build_v up_o in_o their_o most_o holy_a faith_n where_o there_o be_v the_o most_o eminent_a saint_n yet_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n lack_v the_o apostle_n give_v great_a commendation_n of_o the_o thessalonans_fw-la 1_o thess_n 3.10_o they_o be_v a_o famous_a church_n and_o there_o be_v a_o great_a many_o eminent_a christian_n yet_o there_o be_v something_o lack_v in_o their_o faith_n and_o in_o their_o knowledge_n christ_n speak_v to_o one_o of_o the_o most_o eminent_a apostle_n oh_o thou_o of_o little_a faith_n though_o the_o foundation-stone_n be_v lay_v yet_o there_o be_v a_o superstructure_n behind_o and_o this_o be_v the_o work_n of_o christ_n the_o building_n they_o up_o eph._n 4.12_o this_o be_v the_o end_n of_o every_o faithful_a minister_n to_o make_v his_o people_n fit_a for_o heaven_n he_o will_v be_v feed_v of_o they_o that_o they_o may_v grow_v to_o the_o full_a measure_n of_o the_o stature_n of_o christ_n and_o therefore_o every_o godly_a minister_n desire_v that_o he_o may_v be_v the_o finisher_n as_o well_o as_o the_o author_n under_o god_n of_o their_o faith_n that_o they_o may_v be_v build_v up_o to_o christ_n heavenly_a kingdom_n 3._o a_o minister_n aim_n be_v that_o his_o people_n may_v be_v keep_v from_o danger_n the_o people_n of_o god_n after_o they_o be_v effectual_o call_v they_o be_v
my_o minister_n and_o my_o friend_n leave_v i_o yet_o god_n will_v not_o leave_v i_o he_o be_v engage_v by_o his_o own_o promise_n truth_n and_o faithfulness_n i_o will_v never_o never_o never_o leave_v thou_o nor_o forsake_v thou_o if_o you_o do_v not_o forsake_v god_n god_n will_v never_o forsake_v you_o if_o once_o you_o have_v so_o commit_v yourselves_o to_o god_n as_o god_n accept_v die_a father_n when_o he_o see_v his_o child_n weep_v round_o about_o he_o that_o he_o can_v commend_v they_o to_o a_o faithful_a friend_n willing_a to_o do_v that_o for_o they_o that_o he_o desire_v to_o do_v and_o a_o thousand_o â—imes_n more_o i_o will_v hope_v that_o i_o have_v some_o child_n that_o i_o have_v beget_v to_o christ_n by_o my_o ministry_n towards_o who_o my_o bowel_n yearn_v but_o hiâ—_n be_v mâ—_n comfort_n that_o i_o can_v put_v they_o into_o the_o arm_n of_o their_o and_o my_o heavenlâ—_n father_n of_o their_z and_o my_o bless_a redeemer_n to_o be_v keâ—thâ—_fw-mi and_o instrumental_a to_o your_o comfort_n but_o i_o commend_v you_o to_o god_n who_o be_v alle_fw-mi to_o give_v all_o grace_n to_o you_o and_o to_o keep_v you_o sie_v fast_o it_o will_v be_v some_o alleviation_n of_o sorrow_n though_o i_o must_v leave_v you_o and_o die_v to_o you_o as_o to_o my_o public_a ministry_n that_o i_o hope_v i_o may_v a_o while_n go_v up_o and_o down_o and_o converse_v with_o you_o to_o be_v among_o you_o the_o lord_n grant_v this_o favour_n that_o i_o may_v behold_v your_o steadfastness_n 2._o this_o may_v be_v your_o comfort_n as_o well_o as_o i_o this_o may_v be_v the_o comfort_n of_o all_o those_o poor_a congregation_n that_o be_v like_a to_o be_v make_v widow_n by_o the_o metaphorical_a death_n of_o their_o guide_n and_o pastor_n but_o i_o leave_v you_o into_o the_o hand_n of_o all_o grace_n and_o of_o all_o comfort_n this_o be_v a_o black_a day_n upon_o israel_n when_o so_o many_o faithful_a minister_n be_v slay_v at_o one_o blow_n this_o be_v a_o day_n of_o gloominess_n and_o darkness_n in_o many_o congregation_n for_o so_o many_o minister_n to_o be_v behead_v in_o one_o day_n what_o have_v england_n commit_v be_v it_o not_o some_o high_a treason_n if_o we_o look_v to_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o why_o so_o many_o minister_n be_v as_o dead_a in_o one_o day_n as_o so_o many_o child_n without_o a_o father_n and_o if_o we_o look_v upon_o this_o cause_n what_o have_v cause_v god_n thus_o to_o deal_v with_o we_o we_o must_v complain_v oh_o our_o unfruitfulness_n our_o fearful_a unthankfulness_n under_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n this_o will_v be_v the_o emphasis_n and_o sting_n of_o our_o grief_n and_o this_o shall_v be_v the_o matter_n of_o our_o grief_n and_o then_o if_o we_o consider_v the_o sad_a prognostic_n what_o it_o do_v seem_v to_o foretell_v it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o when_o god_n lay_v aside_o so_o many_o faithful_a minister_n of_o some_o scourge_n or_o calamity_n that_o be_v come_v upon_o we_o but_o you_o that_o can_v lament_v this_o judgement_n you_o that_o can_v lament_v the_o sad_a deprivation_n of_o these_o powerful_a ordinance_n remember_v that_o though_o your_o minister_n be_v dead_a god_n can_v raise_v you_o up_o other_o in_o their_o stead_n and_o where_o the_o way_n of_o instrument_n be_v want_v he_o can_v do_v it_o without_o they_o and_o those_o that_o be_v beget_v in_o christ_n shall_v be_v preserve_v and_o those_o yet_o unbrought_a in_o who_o belong_v to_o the_o election_n of_o grace_n shall_v in_o god_n due_a time_n have_v the_o effectual_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n wrought_v upon_o their_o soul_n for_o he_o be_v able_a to_o build_v you_o up_o and_o to_o give_v you_o a_o inheritance_n among_o they_o that_o be_v sanctify_v and_o though_o i_o take_v this_o solemn_a leave_n of_o you_o as_o to_o this_o public_a exercise_n yet_o if_o the_o lord_n shall_v open_v the_o door_n and_o take_v of_o those_o band_n of_o death_n that_o the_o
