nobility_n and_o height_n of_o spirit_n that_o can_v be_v to_o be_v holy_a god_n himself_o be_v a_o magnificent_a god_n and_o he_o be_v ennoble_v by_o his_o holiness_n this_o set_v out_o the_o excellency_n of_o holiness_n again_o glorious_a in_o holiness_n it_o be_v render_v by_o some_o glorious_a in_o holy_a thing_n that_o be_v glorious_a in_o thy_o holy_a angel_n glorious_a in_o thy_o holy_a saint_n glorious_a in_o thy_o holy_a word_n glorious_a in_o thy_o holy_a ordinance_n glorious_a in_o thy_o holy_a worship_n god_n indeed_o be_v very_o glorious_a in_o his_o angel_n and_o in_o his_o saint_n and_o in_o his_o word_n and_o in_o his_o worship_n and_o in_o his_o ordinance_n but_o we_o will_v take_v the_o word_n as_o you_o have_v they_o here_o glorious_a in_o holiness_n and_o for_o the_o explication_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n in_o this_o title_n there_o be_v these_o three_o thing_n to_o be_v do_v first_o to_o show_v you_o a_o little_a what_o holiness_n in_o god_n be_v second_o i_o shall_v open_v unto_o you_o how_o god_n be_v say_v to_o be_v glorious_a in_o holiness_n and_o then_o three_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o why_o god_n have_v this_o title_n give_v he_o here_o in_o this_o place_n why_o he_o be_v rather_o say_v here_o to_o be_v glorious_a in_o holiness_n then_o glorious_a in_o power_n for_o it_o be_v a_o act_n of_o power_n rather_o that_o god_n do_v put_v forth_o in_o the_o destruction_n of_o the_o egyptian_n and_o deliverance_n of_o his_o people_n for_o the_o first_o what_o be_v holiness_n in_o god_n we_o understand_v this_o as_o general_o we_o do_v almost_o all_o thing_n of_o god_n rather_o by_o way_n of_o negation_n then_o otherwise_o rather_o by_o what_o it_o be_v not_o then_o by_o what_o it_o be_v therefore_o we_o use_v to_o say_v that_o god_n holiness_n be_v that_o whereby_o his_o nature_n be_v free_a from_o all_o kind_n of_o mixture_n and_o from_o the_o least_o soil_n and_o filth_n of_o sin_n therefore_o god_n be_v call_v light_n because_o light_n be_v so_o pure_a a_o creature_n and_o so_o free_a from_o any_o mixture_n of_o pollution_n that_o it_o can_v be_v among_o filthy_a thing_n without_o any_o defilement_n of_o itself_o so_o god_n can_v work_v with_o sin_n itself_o and_o yet_o without_o any_o defilement_n of_o his_o nature_n but_o beside_o this_o negation_n if_o you_o will_v know_v somewhat_o positive_o what_o the_o holiness_n of_o god_n be_v i_o will_v describe_v it_o brief_o to_o you_o thus_o it_o be_v the_o infinite_a rectitude_n and_o perfection_n of_o the_o will_n of_o god_n especial_o whereby_o he_o do_v will_n and_o work_v all_o thing_n suitable_a to_o the_o infinite_a excellency_n of_o his_o own_o be_v the_o excellency_n of_o god_n be_v the_o high_a and_o therefore_o the_o rule_n of_o all_o excellency_n and_o the_o will_n of_o god_n be_v always_o suitable_a to_o his_o own_o infinite_a excellency_n and_o impossible_a to_o vary_v in_o the_o least_o from_o it_o therefore_o his_o will_n be_v its_o beam_n in_o the_o water_n we_o may_v behold_v its_o glory_n so_o the_o holiness_n of_o god_n be_v too_o bright_a to_o be_v behold_v in_o itself_o we_o can_v behold_v the_o infinite_a purity_n and_o holiness_n of_o god_n immediate_o but_o by_o look_v upon_o the_o holiness_n of_o the_o creature_n which_o be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o reflection_n of_o god_n holiness_n upon_o it_o and_o a_o ray_n and_o beam_n of_o it_o we_o may_v come_v to_o see_v somewhat_o of_o the_o holiness_n of_o god_n now_o the_o holiness_n of_o a_o creature_n be_v this_o the_o separation_n of_o it_o from_o common_a thing_n to_o a_o holy_a use_n or_o the_o dedication_n of_o a_o creature_n in_o some_o immediate_a manner_n to_o god_n for_o the_o lift_n up_o of_o the_o name_n of_o god_n the_o holiness_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v this_o the_o separation_n of_o their_o spirit_n from_o all_o common_a thing_n to_o god_n as_o the_o high_a and_o last_o end_n and_o when_o they_o be_v able_a to_o work_v to_o god_n as_o the_o utmost_a end_n and_o to_o will_v that_o they_o do_v in_o order_n to_o god_n as_o the_o last_o end_n and_o so_o as_o be_v suitable_a to_o god_n as_o the_o high_a end_n that_o be_v the_o holiness_n of_o their_o will_n so_o it_o be_v in_o god_n holiness_n god_n holiness_n be_v a_o dedication_n as_o it_o be_v of_o god_n to_o himself_o that_o be_v god_n be_v of_o and_o from_o himself_o and_o himself_o be_v his_o own_o last_o end_n he_o give_v up_o himself_o unto_o himself_o and_o will_v himself_o as_o the_o high_a and_o utmost_a end_n and_o so_o will_v all_o thing_n in_o order_n to_o himself_o as_o the_o last_o and_o high_a end_n this_o be_v the_o holiness_n of_o god_n and_o the_o image_n of_o this_o holiness_n be_v that_o stamp_n and_o work_v of_o grace_n that_o be_v upon_o the_o creature_n when_o the_o creature_n be_v enable_v to_o will_n god_n as_o the_o high_a end_n and_o all_o thing_n in_o subordination_n to_o he_o the_o creature_n be_v then_o say_v to_o be_v holy_a because_o it_o have_v a_o stamp_n of_o god_n upon_o it_o this_o be_v god_n holiness_n but_o glorious_a in_o holiness_n how_o be_v god_n glorious_a in_o holiness_n god_n be_v glorious_a in_o all_o his_o attribute_n and_o work_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v there_o be_v not_o one_o thing_n in_o god_n more_o glorious_a than_o another_o every_o attribute_n of_o god_n be_v in_o itself_o equal_o glorious_a but_o in_o regard_n of_o manifestation_n and_o according_a to_o our_o apprehension_n so_o one_o thing_n appear_v more_o glorious_a than_o another_o and_o god_n be_v please_v to_o speak_v to_o we_o according_a to_o our_o apprehension_n therefore_o you_o may_v see_v how_o the_o saint_n do_v especial_o glory_v in_o god_n as_o a_o holy_a god_n look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o holy_a god_n they_o do_v exceed_o rejoice_v and_o glory_n in_o he_o therefore_o say_v the_o psalmist_n psal_n 99_o 3._o let_v they_o praise_v thy_o great_a and_o terrible_a name_n for_o it_o be_v holy_a and_o verse_n 5._o exalt_v you_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n and_o worship_n at_o his_o footstool_n for_o he_o be_v holy_a and_o again_o verse_n 9_o exalt_v the_o lord_n our_o god_n and_o worship_n at_o his_o hy_o hill_n for_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n be_v holy_a thus_o the_o people_n of_o god_n look_v upon_o god_n in_o his_o holiness_n as_o the_o special_a ground_n of_o his_o praise_n and_o exaltation_n infinite_a in_o power_n and_o in_o wisdom_n as_o well_o as_o in_o holiness_n yet_o you_o never_o find_v in_o scripture_n that_o god_n be_v say_v to_o be_v wise_a wise_a wise_a or_o almighty_a almighty_a almighty_a but_o holy_a holy_a holy_a three_o time_n together_o and_o as_o the_o angel_n of_o heaven_n adore_v god_n especial_o for_o his_o holiness_n so_o the_o church_n of_o god_n rev._n 4._o 8._o cry_n out_o holy_a holy_a holy_a lord_n god_n almighty_a show_v the_o bless_a condition_n of_o the_o church_n of_o god_n when_o it_o shall_v be_v hereafter_o more_o sanctify_v and_o god_n with_o riches_n or_o any_o creature_n come_v to_o they_o at_o first_o and_o say_v to_o they_o how_o do_v you_o apprehend_v the_o comfort_n of_o the_o creature_n be_v there_o not_o infinite_o more_o in_o god_n then_o there_o be_v in_o the_o creature_n yes_o they_o will_v say_v i_o but_o by_o let_v our_o heart_n out_o upon_o the_o creature_n and_o by_o pore_v upon_o the_o beauty_n of_o the_o creature_n we_o begin_v at_o length_n to_o lose_v the_o power_n of_o this_o apprehension_n that_o be_v at_o first_o upon_o our_o heart_n and_o so_o commit_v spiritual_a idolatry_n with_o the_o creature_n and_o therefore_o it_o must_v be_v our_o care_n to_o keep_v entire_a and_o fresh_a our_o apprehension_n and_o sense_n of_o that_o infinite_a distance_n that_o there_o be_v between_o god_n and_o all_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o creature_n and_o so_o long_o as_o thou_o do_v keep_v thy_o apprehension_n fresh_a and_o strong_a here_o there_o be_v no_o danger_n and_o thou_o sin_v not_o in_o let_v thyself_o out_o to_o the_o creature_n if_o it_o have_v not_o abate_v thy_o apprehension_n of_o the_o infinite_a disporportion_n that_o there_o be_v between_o god_n and_o all_o creature_n therefore_o now_o see_v there_o be_v a_o infinite_a stupendous_a height_n of_o excellency_n in_o god_n above_o all_o creature_n there_o shall_v be_v the_o like_a thought_n in_o our_o heart_n towards_o god_n and_o the_o creature_n thus_o as_o there_o be_v a_o infinite_a distance_n between_o the_o excellency_n of_o god_n and_o the_o excellency_n of_o all_o creature_n so_o there_o aught_o to_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o infiniteness_n in_o the_o distance_n and_o disproportion_n between_o that_o esteem_n and_o delight_n and_o dependence_n we_o have_v in_o and_o upon_o the_o creature_n and_o that_o we_o have_v in_o and_o upon_o god_n therefore_o you_o shall_v not_o satisfy_v yourselves_o in_o this_o that_o you_o acknowledge_v god_n above_o the_o creature_n for_o all_o will_v do_v so_o but_o you_o be_v to_o find_v in_o your_o soul_n such_o a_o disproportion_n between_o your_o esteem_n and_o joy_n and_o desire_v after_o the_o creature_n and_o that_o you_o have_v after_o god_n as_o be_v somewhat_o like_o the_o distance_n that_o there_o be_v between_o god_n and_o the_o creature_n now_o the_o distance_n be_v infinite_a that_o be_v between_o god_n and_o the_o creature_n therefore_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o kind_n of_o infiniteness_n in_o the_o distance_n between_o your_o esteem_n of_o and_o the_o work_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o endeavour_n after_o the_o creature_n and_o that_o esteem_v and_o work_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o soul_n which_o you_o have_v towards_o god_n and_o this_o be_v to_o glorify_v god_n as_o a_o god_n this_o be_v the_o soul_n worship_n we_o owe_v to_o god_n in_o the_o world_n this_o be_v the_o true_a sanctify_v of_o the_o name_n of_o god_n when_o this_o come_v practical_o upon_o our_o heart_n second_o if_o there_o be_v none_o like_o to_o god_n than_o it_o follow_v that_o there_o be_v none_o like_o to_o the_o people_n of_o god_n for_o as_o a_o man_n god_n be_v so_o be_v he_o look_v what_o god_n a_o man_n choose_v he_o be_v as_o his_o god_n sun_n and_o moon_n and_o star_n to_o be_v great_a and_o vast_a body_n and_o the_o earth_n to_o be_v but_o a_o point_n in_o comparison_n of_o they_o so_o while_o man_n have_v earthly_a heart_n they_o look_v upon_o the_o thing_n of_o heaven_n as_o conceit_n and_o poor_a small_a inconsiderable_a thing_n not_o worth_a look_v after_o but_o if_o by_o divine_a principle_n they_o be_v once_o lift_v up_o
