him the king spake and said Belteshazzar let not the dream or the interpretation thereof trouble thee Belteshazzar answered and said My lord the dream be to them that hate thee and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies 20 The tree that thou sawest which grew was strong whose height reached unto the heaven and the ●ight thereof to all the earth 21 Whose leaves were fair and the fruit thereof much and in it was meat for all under which the beasts of the field dwelt and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation 22 It is thou O king that art grown and become strong for thy greatness is grown and reacheth unto heaven and thy dominion to the end of the earth 23 And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven and saying Hew the tree down and men and giveth it to whomsoever he will 33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar and he was driven from men and did eat grass as oxen and his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hairs were grown like eagles feathers and his nails like birds claws 34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lift up mine eyes unto heaven and mine understanding returned unto me and I VI. 1 Daniel is made chief of the presidents 4 They couspiring against him obtain an idolatrous decree 10 Daniel accused of the breach thereof is cast into the lions den 18 Daniel is saved 24 his adversaries devoured 25 and God magnified by a decree IT pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes which should be over the whole kingdom 2 And over these three presidents of whom Daniel was first that the princes might give accounts unto them and the king should have no damage 3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes because an excellent spirit was in him and the king thought to set him over the whole realm 4 ¶ Then the presidents and princes sought to finde occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom but they could finde none occasion nor fault forasmuch as he was faithful neither was there any errour or fault found in him 5 Then said these men We shall not finde any occasion against this Daniel except we finde it against him concerning the law of his God 6 Then these presidents and princes † Or came ●●mult●●ously assembled together to the king and said thus unto him King Darius live for ever 7 All the presidents of the kingdom the governours and the princes the counsellours and the captains have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm ‖

X. 1 Daniel having humbled himself seeth a vision 1● Being troubled with fear he is comforted by the angel IN the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel whose name was called Belteshazzar and the thing was true but the time appointed was † Heb. grea● long and he understood the thing and had understanding of the vision 2 In those days I Daniel was mourning three † Heb. weeks of days full weeks 3 I ate no † Heb. ●●ead of ●esires pleasant bread neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth neither did I anoint my sell at all till chree whole weeks were fulfilled 4 And in the four and twenfieth day of the first moneth as I was by the side of the great river which is * G●n 2.14 Hiddekel 5 Then I lift up mine eyes and looked and behold † Heb. one man a certain man clothed in linen whose loyns were * Rev. 1.23 14 15. girded with fine gold of Uphaz 6 His body also was like the beryl and his face as the appearance of lightning and his eyes as lamps of fire and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude 7 And I Daniel alone saw the vision for the men that were with me saw not the vision but a great quaking fell upon them so that they fled to hide themselves 8 Therefore I was left alone and saw this great vision and there remained no strength in me for my ‖ Or vigour * Ch. 7.28 comeliness was turned in me into corruption and I retained no strength 9 Yet heard I the voice of his words and when I heard the voice of his words then was I in a deep sleep on my face and my face toward the ground 10 ¶ And behold an hand touched me which † Heb. moved set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands 11 And he said unto me O Daniel † Heb. a man of desires a man greatly beloved understand the words that I speak unto thee and † Heb. stand upon thy standing stand upright for unto thee am I now sent And when he had spoken this word unto me I stood trembling 12 Then said he unto me Fear not Daniel for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand and to chasten thy self before thy God thy words were heard and I am come for thy words 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days but lo Michael ‖ Or the first one of the chief princes came to help me and I remained there with the kings of Persia 14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days for yet the vision is for many days 15 And when he had spoken such words unto me I set my face toward the ground and I became dumb 16 And behold one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips then I opened my mouth and spake and said unto him that stood before me O my lord by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me and I have retained no strength 17 For how can ‖ Or this servant of my lord the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord for as for me straightway there remained no strength in me neither is there breath left in me 18 Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man and he strengthned me 19 And said O man greatly beloved fear not peace be unto thee be strong yea be strong And when he had spoken unto me I was strengthned and said Let my lord speak for thou hast strengthned me 20 Then said he Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee and now will I return to sight with the prince of Persia and when I am gone forth lo the prince of Grecia shall come 21 But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth and there is none that † Heb. strengthneth himself holdeth with me in these things but Michael your prince CHAP. XI 1 The overthrow of Persia by the king of Grecia 5 Leagues and conflicts between the kings of the south and of the north 30 The invasion and tyranny of the Romans ALso I in the first year of Darius the Mede even I stood to confirm and to strengthen him 2 And now will I shew thee the truth Behold there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia and the fourth shall be far richer then they all and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia 3 And a mighty king shall stand up that shall rule with great dominion and do according to his will 4 And when he shall stand up his kingdom shall be broken and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven and not to his posterity nor according to his dominion which he ruled for his kingdom shall be pluckt up even for others besides those 5 ¶ And the king of the south shall be strong and one of his princes and he

Whom thou commandedst to build a city unto thy name and to offer incense and oblations unto thee therein 25 When this was done many years then they that inhabited the city forsook thee 26 And in all things did even as Adam and all his generations had done for they also had a wicked heart 27 And so thou gavest thy city over into the hands of thine enemies 28 Are their deeds then any better that inhabit Babylon that they should therefore have the dominion over Sion 29 For when I came thither and had seen impieties without number then my soul saw many evil doers in this thirtieth year so that my heart failed me 30 For I have seen how thou sufferest them sinning and hast spared wicked doers and hast destroyed thy people and hast preserved thine enemi●● and hast not signified it 31 ‖ Or I conceive I do not remember how this way may be left Are they then of Babylon better then they of Sion 32 Or is there any other people that knoweth thee besides Israel or what generation hath so beleeved thy covenants as Jacob 33 And yet their reward appeareth not and their labour hath no fruit for I have gone here and there through the heathen and I see that they ‖ Or abound flow in wealth and think not upon thy commandments 34 Weigh thou therefore our wickedness now in the balance and theirs also that dwell in the world and so shall thy name no where be found but in Israel 35 Or when was it that they which dwell upon the earth have not sinned in thy sight or what people hath so kept thy commandments 36 Thou shalt finde that Israel by name hath kept thy precepts but not the heathen CHAP. IV. 1 The angel declareth the ignorance of Esdras in Gods judgements 13 and adviseth him not to meddle with things above his reach 23 Nevertheless Esdras asketh divers questions and receiveth answers to them ANd the angel that was sent unto me whose name was Uriel gave me an answer 2 And said Thy heart hath gone too far in this world and thinkest thou to ●omprehend the way of the most High 3 Then said I Yea my lord and he answered me and said I am sent to sh●w thee three ways and to set forth three similitudes before thee 4 Whereof if thou canst declare me one I will shew thee also the way that thou desirest to see and I shall shew thee from whence the wicked heart cometh 5 And I said Tell on my lord Then said he unto me Go thy way weigh me the weight of the fire or measure me the blast of the wind or call me again the day that is past 6 Then answered I and said What man is able to do that that thou shouldest ask such things of me 7 And he said unto me If I should ask thee how great dwellings are in the midst of the sea or how many springs are in the beginning of the deep or how many springs are above the firmament or which are the outgoings of paradise 8 Peradventure thou wouldest say unto me I never went down into the deep nor as yet into hell neither did I ever climbe up into heaven 9 Nevertheless now have I asked thee but onely of the fire and wind and of the day where-through thou hast passed and of things from which thou canst not be separated and yet canst thou give me no answer of them 10 He said moreover unto me Thine own things and such as are grown up with thee canst thou not know 11 How should thy vessel then be able to comprehend the way of the Highest and the world being now outwardly corrupted to understand the ‖ Or incorruption corruption that is evident in my sight 12 Then said I unto him It were better that we were not at all then that we should live still in wickedness and to suffer and not to know wherefore 13 He answered me and said I went into a forest into a plain and the * Judg. 9.8 2 Chr. 25.18 trees took counsel 14 And said Come let us go and make war against the sea that it may depart away before us and that we may make us more woods 15 The flouds of the sea also in like manner took counsel and said Come let us go up and subdue the woods of the plain that there also we may make us another countrey 16 The thought of the wood was in vain for the fire came and consumed it 17 The thought of the flouds of the sea came likewise to nought for the sand stood up and stopped them 18 If thou wert judge now betwixt these two whom wouldest thou begin to justifie or whom wouldest thou condemn 19 I answered and said Verily it is a foolish thought that they have both devised for ‖ Or the land the ground is given unto the wood and the sea also hath his place to bear his ‖ Or waves flouds 20 Then answered he me and said Thou hast given a right judgement but thy judgest thou not thyself also 21 For like as ‖ the land the ground is given unto the wood and the sea to his flouds even so * Is 55.8 9. Joh. 3.31 1 Cor. 2.14 they that dwell upon the earth may understand nothing but that which is upon the earth and he that dwelleth above the heavens may onely understand the things that are above the height of the heavens 22 Then answered I and said I beseech thee O Lord let me have understanding 23 For it was not my minde to be curious of the high things but of such as pass by us daily namely wherefore Israel is given up as a reproach to the heathen and for what cause the people whom thou hast loved is given over unto ungodly nations and why the law of our forefathers is brought to nought and the written covenants come ‖ Or no where to none effect 24 And we pass away out of the world as grashoppers and our life is astonishment and fear and we are not worthy to obtain mercy 25 What will he then do unto his name whereby we are called of these things have I asked 26 Then answered he me and said The more thou searchest the more thou shalt marvel for the world hasteth fast to pass away 27 And cannot comprehend the things that are promised to the righteous in time to
burnt-offering or sacrifice or oblation or incense or place to sacrifice before thee and to finde mercy 16 Nevertheless in a contrite heart and an humble spirit let us be accepted 17 Like as in the burnt-offerings of rams and bullocks and like as in ten thousands of fat lambs so let our sacrifice be in thy sight this day and grant that we may wholly go after thee for they shall not be confounded that put their trust in thee 18 And now we follow thee with all our heart we fear thee and seek thy face 19 Put us not to shame but deal with us after thy loving kindness and according to the multitude of thy mercies 20 Deliver us also according to thy marvellous works give glory to thy name O Lord let all them that do thy servants hurt be ashamed 21 And let them be confounded ‖ Or by thy Bels dragon Bel and the Dragon 16 Two judges hide themselves in the garden of Susanna to have their pleasure of her 28 which when they could not obtain they accuse and cause her to be condemned for adultery 45 But Daniel examineth the matter again and findeth the two judges false THere dwelt a man in Babylon called Joacim 2 And he took a wife whose name was Susanna the daughter of Chelcias

XII 1 A woman clothed with the sun travaileth 4 The great red dragon standeth before her ready to devour her childe 6 when she was delivered she fleeth into the wilderness 7 Michael and his angels fight with the dragon and prevail 13 The dragon being cast down into the earth persecuteth the woman ANd there appeared a great ‖ Or signe wonder in heaven a woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet and upon her head a crown of twelve stars 2 And she being with childe cried travailing in birth and pained to be delivered 3 And there appeared another ‖ Or signe wonder in heaven and behold a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns upon his heads 4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven and did cast them to the earth and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered for to devour her childe assoon as it was born 5 And she brought forth a man-childe who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron and her childe was caught up unto God and to his throne 6 And the woman fled into the wilderness where she hath a place prepared of God that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days 7 And there was war in heaven Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and the dragon fought and his angels 8 And prevailed not neither was there place found any more in heaven 9 And the great dragon was cast out that
hour so great riches is come to nought And every ship-master and all the company in ships and sailors and as many as trade by sea stood afar off 18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning saying What city is like unto this great city 19 And they cast du●t on their heads and cried weeping and wailing saying Alas alas that great city wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness for in one hour is she made desolate 20 Rejoyce over her thou heaven and ye holy apostles and prophets for God hath avenged you on her 21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great milstone and cast it into the sea saying Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down and shall be found no more at all 22 And the voice of harpers and musicians and of pipers and trumpeters shall be heard no more at all in thee and no craftsman of whatsoever craft he be shall be sound any more in thee and the sound of a milstone shall be heard no more at all in thee 23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee for thy merchants were the great men of the earth for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived 24 And in her was found the bloud of prophets and of saints and of all that were slain upon the earth CHAP. XIX 1 God is praised in heaven for judging the great whore and avenging the bloud of his saints 7 The marriage of the Lamb. 10 The angel will not be worshipped 17 The fowls called to the great slaughter ANd after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven saying Alleluia Salvation and glory and honour and power unto the Lord our God 2 For true and righteous are his judgements for he hath judged the great whore which did corrupt the earth with her s●rnication and hath avenged the bloud of his servants at her hand 3 And again they said Alleluia And her smoke rose up for ever and ever 4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne saying Amen Alleluia 5 And a voice came out of the throne saying Praise our God all ye his servants and ye that fear him both small and great 6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude and as the voice of many waters and as the voice of mighty thundrings saying Alleluia for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth 7 Let us be glad and rejoyce and give honour to him for the marriage of the Lamb is come and his wife hath made her self ready 8 And to her was granted that she should be arayed in fine linen clean and white for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints 9 And he saith unto me Write * Mat. 22.2 Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage-supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me These are the true sayings of God 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him and he said unto me * Chap. 22 9. See thou do it not I am thy fellow-servant and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus worship God for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophesie 11 And I saw heaven opened and behold a white horse and he that sat upon him was called faithful and true and in righteousness he doth judge and make war 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire and on his head were many crowns and he had a name written that no man knew but he himself 13 * Isa 63.2 And he was clothed with a vesture dipt in bloud and his name is called The Word of God 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses clothed in fine linen white and clean 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword that with it he should smite the nations and he shall rule them with a rod of iron and he treadeth the wine-press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written * Chap. 17.14 KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS 17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun and he cried with a loud voice saying to all the fowls that flie in the midst of heaven Come and gather your selves together unto the supper of the great God 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of captains and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of them that sit on them and the flesh of all men both free and bond both small and great 19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse and against his army 20 And the beast was taken and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast and them that worshipped his image These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone 21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse which sword proceeded out of his mouth and all the fowls were filled with their flesh CHAP. XX. 2 Satan bound for a thousand years 5 The first resurrection 6 they blessed that have part therein 7 Satan let loose again 8 God and Magog 10 The devil cast into the lake of fire and brimstone 12 The last and general resurrection ANd I saw an angel come down from heaven having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand 2 And he laid hold on the dragon that old serpent which is the devil and Satan and bound him a thousand years 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit and shut him up and set a seal upon him that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years should be fulfilled and after that he must be loosed a little season 4 And I saw thrones and they sat upon them and judgement was given unto them and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus and for the word of God and which had not worshipped the beast neither his image neither had received his mark upon their forcheads or in their hands and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished This is the first resurrection 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection on such the second death hath no power but they shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years 7 And when the thousand years are expired Satan shall be loosed out of his prison 8
