ânto all Goodwillinge which âoue God his Righteousnes Saluation and Peace FOrasmuch as wee are bruted defamed with many-maner of false Reportes and Eyes by certen malitiâââ and slaunderous Persons that ãâã as-yet communed with vs of ãâã such Thingâ as they criminate ââârge vs with-all to the great Deâânge and Hindering of vs and our ââod-name and Fame amonge such ãâã whom wee rest as-yet vnknowen that they mought therby bring vs âo a Contempt and Obloquie and make vs detestable and monsterous ââââre the Eyes of the Common-people also haue mooued with such their underous Reportes the spirituall âulers or Maiestrates to cast some is into Prison and driueÌ vs therthrough to great Trouble and Charges wher-as men haue not iustlie to blame accuse detect or burden vs as Transgressours of the Lawe be-it against any of the Queene-her Maiestiâs Proceedinges in Causes Ecclesiasticall or-els in her politike Lawes of Gouernement in Causes Temporall but haue alwayes sheweâ ourselues life as it becometh leigâ Subiectes to doo to liue and wall in all dutifull Obedience loyallie towardes thesame and applyed oâ endeuoured vs to the vtterest of ouâ Power to the Fulfillinge of the Râquiring therof if wee mought be rigââlie tryed therin by the Voyce of thâ Countrie wheare wee dwell and I such as knowe vs or with whom wâ haue had to deale and not by the Mâlitious which enuie vs in our W ⦠dooinge and Reasonable-dealingeâ So are wee therfore out of speciââ occasion mooued and vrged to the âtter answering and satisfying of all âaiestrates both spirituall and temâââall and of such as are resonablieâinded and that rest-doutfull of our âight Cause more for that they ââue not any iust Intelligence of the ⦠e Case and State of thesame then ãâã that they rest whollie stayed vpon ââch friuolous vnseemlie and vntrue ârutes as go-fourth against vs âhat they mought thinke therof ⦠eâlie as heere insueth to set-downe ãâã extract or short Note both of the ârticles of our christen Beleef as al ⦠the Grounde of our synceere Reââgion and sounde Profession Deus Charitas est GEeing then that it is meet requisite that euery vpright âeleeuer in Iesu Christ render an Answere of his Faith when hee is required therto being falslie accused ⪠contrarie to his right Beleef so can wee not therfore omit to confesse and acknowledge our vpright and true Faith against all those that vniustlie accuse vs in our right Beleef First-of-all wee acknowledg and confesse that wee knowe nor holdâ not of anye other Beleef then thaâ which is required by the Propheates of God out of the Lawe of the Lord and wheron the holie Apostles and Euangelistes of Iesu Christ haue buylded and stood-grounded and likâ as thesame is also taught confessed by the Communialtie of the Saincteâ of Iesu Christ For wee beleeue in the liuing God of Heauen the Father almightie and the true Maker of HeaueÌ and Earth And wee beleeue in Iesus Christ ⪠his onlie Sonne our Lorde which was conceaued by the Holie-gost and borne of the Virgin Marie Hee sufââââd passion vnder Pontius Pilate ãâã crucified dead and buryed and ââââended into Hell and the thirde âây Hee rose-againe from the Death ãâã ascended to the Heauens and ââare Hee sitteth at the Right-hand ãâã God his Father almightie From ââence wee beleeue Hee is to com to âââge both the Quicke and the Dead And wee beleeue in the Holie-gost ââe holie Catholike-church the Comâânion of Sainctes the Remission Sinnes the Resurrection of the âodye and the Life euerlastinge âmen WEE acknowledg likewise the Father to be God vncreaââd and eternall a stronge or mightie âpirit a perfect cleere Light and a ââue Beeinge or Substaunce and ââat thesame true Beeinge is hys Name and the Loue itself Mee acknowledge also the Sonnâ to be God out of God of the very-likâ Beeinge or very-same Substaunce of his Father the very true and onlie begotten Sonne of God begotteâ froÌ Euerlastingnes and in the Fulânes of the tyme borne of a Virgin out of the Seede of Dauid according to the Fleash the Sonne of Man the Sauiour of the Worlde the truâ Messias a Mediatour alone betwixt God and Man In whosâ Name onlie and in none-other weâ obtaine Saluation and the Remission of our Sinnes Wee acknowledge likewise thâ holie-gost to be God as proceeding from God the Father and his Sonne Iesus Christ and the true Spirit of God the Comforter and the Dyle or Annoyntinge wherwithall God annoynteth his elected People ether Hoââe-church For They are out of ãâã Grace of God the Father vnde ⦠ed redeemed iustified and made ãâã through the Crosse Death Pasââââ and Bloud-sheaddinge of Iesu ârist Which Holie-gost doth di ⦠and leade all his Annoynted inâââll Trueth For They onlie are ãâã true circumcised Israelites out of ãâã Faith of Abraham or the right ââristians through the Satisfactiââ of Christ in the Holie of the true âabernacle wherin they daylie takeââ their Crosse on them with Him ââd followe-after Christ in all God ⦠nes and Trueth to the Purginge ãâã their Sinnes til-into his Loue In âhom also the Spirit of Christ dwelâeth liueth and woorketh and not ârtenlie in Any-other FArdermore wee beleeue and acknowledge concerninge this ââe-onelie liuinge God the Father Sonne and Holie-gost with the Communialtie of his Sainctes all and euerye Part that is writen confessed by the holie Fathers in the olde and new Testament of or concerning the same Godhead to be a Thinge most true very-needfull that euery Christian beleeue acknowledg and confesse thesame and also liue therin So do wee in like-maner acknowledg all the rest of holie Scripture aforesaide as likewise all what-euer accordeth with the Minde of the same being set-fourth and instituted by holie Fathers out of the true Light to be an vpright godlie and healthsom Doctrine and so ought to be takeÌ and acknowledged of all Christians But All whatsoeuer accordeth not therwith that hold wee not for any-thing necessarie vnto Saluation but rather for that which proceedeth out of the Mans ImaginatioÌ not out of the Spirit of Christ Now follovveth the Confession of our Religion CONsideringe the great Loue of God towardes vs and Mankinde in that Hee hath creââââ the Man like-vnto his owne Iââge as also sett him in the Fulnes ãâã âife and how that Hee hath more ãâã when wee were becom his Eneâââs through the Transgressing of ãâã Woord and Children of Death ââe farder extended his Loue towâââes vs and sent his onlie Sonne âââus Christ into this World which ââth to our Attonement suffered the âeath of the Crosse which wee ourââââes were giltie in When wee ââw consider all this great Loue ex ⦠ded on vs so are wee mooued to ãâã Him againe standing euenso Re ⦠ati or bound-againe so Religiââ to loue the same God of Life with all our Heart Soule and Mighâ and also our Neighbour as ourselueâ And for-that-cause to thend that wâ mought vprightlie shewe-fourth thâ same both in the Deede and Truetâ wee reade the holie Scripture of tââ Propheates and Apostles of Chrisâ and all other Bookes which exhorâ vs vnto such an vpright Life Loââ of God and our Neighbour not ⦠singe any other Ceremonies Laweâ Statutes nor Sacramentes of Baâtisme and Supper-of-y e-lord then su ⦠as are ministred in the Church of Enâlande And to that ende obey wee aâ so our soueraigne Ladie the Queeâ and the Maiestrates our Fore-goerâ both spirituall and temporall ãâã that of God-his behalf and euen ãâã our Conscience and the Peaces can ãâã payinge all Tribute vnto these-sâââ Maiestrates liuinge obedientlie aââ subiectlie euen as it is meete rig ⦠ãâã their Lawes and also dealing ãâã all Men vprightlie faithfullie ãâã charitablie euen-like as wee ourââââââ wolde gladlie be dealt-withall ãâã ââeir Handes keepinge likewise ãâã with Al-men so farre as is posâââââ for vs And this wee holde to be ãâã fulfillinge both of the Lawe and ââââheates as likewise the Doctrine ãâã word âhrist and his Apostles as is ãâã contayned in the Olde New âââtament And our Conscience bea ⦠âs recorde that all such Single ⦠dones ought to be defended by ãâã Gouernours from all Iniustice and Tirannical oppression THissame is finallie the Contentes of our Beleef and the ⦠nde of our Religion brieflie de ⦠and what wee acknowledge ãâã ââonfesse concerning thesame euen ãâã the Bottom of our Heartes and ãâã also required of eueryone thorough the gratious Woorde of Lifâ in the Seruice of the Loue of Iesââ Christ and not els-what And wâ thinke this our Confessinge heerewitnessed to be sufficient before ãâã christian Maiestrates both spiritu ⦠and temporall and for all Resonâble-men Hoping also therfore inaâmuch as wee endeuour vs to liue suâiectlike and peaceablie vnder our Prââces Lawes that our Cause shall ãâã with Iustice considered to a Râleassinge of vs from this our Subieâtiued-bondage of Straightnes Pââturbation and great Charges wh ⦠in wee now are bewrapped and seâ without iust cause of our part desââued c. Let eueryone consider and waye our Cause vprightlie
