and_o by_o believe_v in_o he_o rest_v rely_v and_o depend_v on_o he_o like_o a_o evil_a person_n who_o put_v a_o poor_a traveller_n out_o of_o his_o way_n or_o direct_v he_o the_o direct_a contrary_a way_n that_o so_o he_o may_v be_v rob_v and_o murder_v by_o he_o and_o by_o other_o thief_n that_o may_v waylay_v he_o 2._o some_o neglect_n the_o salvation_n of_o the_o gospel_n from_o that_o upon_o he_o that_o we_o may_v never_o feel_v the_o weight_n thereof_o o_o how_o shall_v this_o fill_v our_o heart_n with_o revenge_n and_o indignation_n against_o sin_n certain_o the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n for_o our_o sin_n show_v forth_o the_o evil_a of_o it_o beyond_o all_o the_o torment_v the_o damn_a endure_v in_o hell_n and_o if_o god_n do_v not_o spare_v he_o who_o as_o our_o surety_n stand_v in_o our_o place_n and_o room_n what_o will_v become_v of_o thou_o o_o sinner_n that_o go_v on_o presumptuous_o in_o thy_o evil_a way_n and_o do_v not_o regard_v or_o lay_v to_o heart_n the_o great_a salvation_n of_o the_o gospel_n shall_v not_o the_o love_n of_o god_n overcome_v thou_o then_o fear_v his_o wrath_n which_o be_v so_o dreadful_a and_o will_v be_v let_v out_o in_o fury_n quest_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n man_n do_v no_o more_o fear_n and_o dread_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n answ_n 1._o it_o be_v because_o they_o do_v not_o know_v the_o direful_a nature_n thereof_o we_o know_v the_o terror_n of_o the_o lord_n say_v the_o apostle_n persuade_v 11._o men._n the_o faithful_a servant_n of_o god_n know_v it_o but_o sinner_n know_v it_o not_o therefore_o fear_v it_o no_o more_o 2._o it_o be_v because_o god_n do_v not_o execute_v the_o sentence_n against_o their_o evil_a work_n present_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n solomon_n tell_v we_o why_o 11._o the_o heart_n of_o the_o child_n of_o man_n be_v full_o set_v in_o they_o to_o do_v wicked_o 3._o sinner_n be_v blind_v by_o the_o devil_n and_o think_v god_n take_v no_o notice_n of_o their_o way_n and_o evil_a do_n and_o so_o go_v on_o bold_o may_v be_v think_v no_o eye_n see_v they_o and_o because_o god_n be_v so_o gracious_a patient_a and_o slow_a to_o anger_n and_o long_o before_o he_o strike_v they_o think_v the_o blow_n will_v never_o come_v at_o all_o o_o it_o be_v sad_a that_o the_o goodness_n 4._o mercy_n and_o long-suffering_a of_o god_n which_o shall_v lead_v man_n to_o repentance_n shall_v tend_v to_o harden_v they_o in_o their_o evil_a way_n but_o though_o they_o now_o despise_v his_o goodness_n and_o forbearance_n etc._n etc._n yet_o they_o shall_v not_o escape_v the_o judgement_n of_o god_n quest_n what_o shall_v sinner_n do_v to_o escape_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n answ_n 1._o sinner_n if_o thou_o will_v escape_v god_n wrath_n find_v out_o the_o original_a cause_n thereof_o ponder_v well_o thy_o state_n by_o nature_n and_o the_o pollution_n of_o thy_o heart_n from_o whence_o all_o actual_a sin_n flow_v 2._o find_v out_o the_o immediate_a cause_n of_o his_o displeasure_n and_o wrath_n that_o be_v ready_a to_o break_v forth_o against_o thou_o and_o cry_v out_o what_o have_v i_o do_v o_o see_v what_o gild_n lie_v upon_o you_o and_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o 3._o labour_v to_o know_v what_o it_o be_v that_o have_v appease_v god_n wrath_n nothing_o but_o a_o sacrifice_n a_o atonement_n can_v do_v it_o thy_o tear_n thy_o prayer_n thy_o repentance_n can_v not_o do_v it_o the_o storm_n be_v great_a and_o our_o belove_a ionas_n be_v throw_v into_o the_o sea_n of_o god_n wrath_n to_o allay_v it_o and_o to_o cause_v a_o calm_a 4._o get_v a_o thorough_a sense_n of_o the_o great_a evil_n of_o sin_n 5._o and_o then_o loath_a yourselves_o nothing_o but_o grace_n pour_v forth_o from_o the_o lord_n can_v do_v this_o o_o when_o once_o you_o can_v mourn_v for_o your_o iniquity_n as_o a_o man_n mourn_v for_o his_o first-born_a by_o behold_v he_o who_o you_o have_v pierce_v there_o will_v be_v hope_n 6._o pray_v and_o cry_v mighty_o to_o the_o lord_n cease_v not_o day_n nor_o night_n until_o you_o find_v out_o the_o plague_n of_o your_o own_o heart_n 7._o above_o all_o thing_n fly_v to_o jesus_n christ_n look_v up_o to_o he_o and_o neglect_v not_o this_o salvation_n one_o hour_n but_o throw_v down_o your_o arm_n sight_n against_o god_n no_o more_o nor_o fence_v against_o the_o two-edged_a sword_n of_o his_o mouth_n but_o as_o a_o poor_a lose_v and_o burden_a sinner_n come_v to_o he_o and_o thou_o shall_v find_v rest_n unto_o thy_o soul_n 28._o object_n but_o perhaps_o some_o may_v object_v be_v not_o this_o doctrine_n a_o legal_a doctrine_n answ_n i_o say_v no_o but_o i_o shall_v answer_v this_o objection_n the_o next_o time_n and_o so_o close_o with_o this_o text._n heb._n ii_o 3._o how_o shall_v we_o escape_v if_o we_o neglect_v so_o great_a salvation_n xv._n i_o show_v you_o the_o last_o time_n wherefore_o the_o gospel_n be_v clothe_v with_o such_o fearful_a threaten_n against_o sinner_n that_o neglect_v the_o great_a salvation_n that_o be_v offer_v unto_o they_o therein_o also_o what_o sort_n of_o sinner_n be_v like_a for_o ever_o to_o fall_v under_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n moreover_o you_o may_v remember_v i_o mention_v a_o objection_n which_o possible_o some_o may_v raise_v viz._n object_n be_v not_o this_o doctrine_n a_o legal_a doctrine_n or_o a_o legal_a way_n of_o preach_v to_o insist_v so_o much_o upon_o the_o threaten_n of_o wrath_n and_o divine_a vengeance_n i_o answer_v no_o it_o be_v not_o i_o therefore_o now_o shall_v endeavour_v god_n assist_v to_o do_v two_o thing_n first_o show_v you_o what_o be_v not_o a_o legal_a doctrine_n or_o a_o legal_a way_n of_o preach_v second_o show_v you_o what_o be_v a_o legal_a doctrine_n or_o not_o evangelical_n preach_v 1._o to_o preach_v god_n a_o just_a and_o holy_a god_n be_v no_o legal_a doctrine_n though_o the_o law_n it_o be_v true_a hold_v he_o forth_o so_o to_o be_v that_o discover_v that_o god_n be_v just_o but_o his_o mercy_n be_v veil_v under_o dark_a shadow_n type_n and_o legal_a sacrifice_n but_o now_o the_o gospel_n set_v forth_o the_o infinite_a justice_n of_o god_n beyond_o the_o law_n for_o in_o a_o ceremonial_a way_n the_o blood_n of_o beast_n seem_v to_o pacify_v god_n wrath._n though_o we_o deny_v not_o but_o the_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n the_o great_a sacrifice_n which_o alone_o in_o a_o proper_a sense_n can_v satisfy_v for_o sin_n be_v hold_v forth_o thereby_o but_o in_o the_o gospel_n the_o justice_n and_o holiness_n of_o god_n so_o clear_o shine_v forth_o in_o jesus_n christ_n that_o it_o be_v with_o open_a face_n manifest_v unto_o all_o all_o may_v behold_v therein_o the_o just_a actual_o slay_v and_o make_v a_o sacrifice_n for_o the_o unjust_a never_o do_v god_n justice_n appear_v so_o full_o as_o it_o do_v in_o the_o suffer_a and_o death_n of_o christ_n for_o sin_n therefore_o to_o preach_v the_o severity_n and_o justice_n of_o god_n against_o sin_n and_o sinner_n can_v be_v no_o legal_a doctrine_n 2._o to_o preach_v repentance_n the_o necessity_n of_o repentance_n regeneration_n and_o holiness_n be_v no_o legal_a doctrine_n but_o it_o be_v pure_a gospel_n the_o law_n allow_v of_o no_o repentance_n for_o those_o that_o sin_v against_o moses_n be_v law_n die_v without_o mercy_n under_o two_o or_o three_o witness_n do_v 28._o not_o mistake_v i_o i_o do_v not_o say_v that_o there_o be_v no_o repentance_n for_o such_o who_o live_v under_o the_o dispensation_n of_o the_o law_n for_o though_o the_o law_n or_o first_o covenant_n allow_v of_o no_o repentance_n yet_o the_o gospel_n be_v preach_v to_o adam_n to_o abraham_n to_o moses_n david_n etc._n etc._n but_o pray_v remember_v and_o consider_v it_o well_o that_o repentance_n come_v in_o not_o through_o the_o law_n but_o through_o the_o gospel_n upon_o the_o account_n of_o christ_n satisfaction_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v only_o a_o gospel-blessing_n which_o be_v due_o consider_v man_n have_v little_a reason_n to_o
