and_o how_o they_o be_v distinguish_v from_o one_o another_o and_o also_o how_o they_o be_v join_v together_o do_v contribute_v mutual_a assistance_n to_o one_o another_o in_o the_o justification_n of_o the_o ungodly_a for_o though_o we_o deny_v repentance_n not_o that_o both_o be_v very_o please_v to_o god_n yet_o the_o one_o be_v acceptable_a to_o he_o one_o way_n and_o the_o other_o another_o way_n for_o faith_n be_v acceptable_a through_o christ_n but_o repentance_n only_o upon_o the_o account_n of_o faith_n and_o it_o be_v also_o a_o certain_a truth_n that_o though_o by_o faith_n only_o as_o the_o procure_a cause_n we_o obtain_v justification_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n yet_o this_o very_a faith_n do_v not_o put_v forth_o its_o power_n of_o justify_v upon_o any_o but_o penitent_a and_o brokenhearted_a sinner_n and_o therefore_o in_o the_o gospel_n we_o be_v so_o often_o invite_v to_o repentance_n not_o that_o it_o be_v not_o true_a faith_n only_o which_o justify_v without_o repentance_n but_o because_o faith_n if_o it_o be_v true_a justify_v no_o other_o but_o they_o that_o have_v turn_v from_o their_o sin_n in_o sincerity_n and_o be_v convert_v unto_o god_n by_o blessedness_n of_o the_o kingdom_n as_o a_o reward_n of_o work_n you_o may_v find_v a_o answer_n to_o this_o objection_n in_o the_o book_n of_o jacobus_n cartusiensis_n who_o have_v write_v 1440._o on_o this_o manner_n man_n do_v accept_v and_o love_v the_o person_n of_o other_o for_o their_o work_n that_o be_v acceptable_a and_o profitable_a to_o they_o but_o god_n accept_v the_o work_n for_o the_o sake_n of_o the_o person_n etc._n etc._n therefore_o here_o there_o be_v need_n of_o a_o distinction_n between_o the_o work_n and_o the_o person_n of_o the_o worker_n but_o you_o may_v say_v be_v not_o work_n that_o be_v perform_v in_o charity_n for_o the_o relief_n of_o the_o poor_a please_a and_o acceptable_a to_o god_n we_o deny_v not_o that_o ourselves_o but_o we_o inquire_v into_o the_o cause_n wherefore_o they_o become_v acceptable_a which_o that_o it_o may_v appear_v the_o more_o evident_o let_v we_o examine_v these_o word_n of_o scripture_n i_o be_v a_o hunger_a say_v christ_n and_o you_o give_v i_o meat_n i_o be_v thirsty_a and_o you_o give_v i_o drink_v etc._n etc._n i_o ask_v in_o the_o first_o place_n who_o be_v it_o here_o that_o be_v a_o hunger_a you_o will_v say_v christ_n either_o himself_n in_o his_o own_o body_n or_o in_o a_o member_n of_o his_o body_n do_v you_o then_o feed_v christ_n when_o he_o be_v a_o hunger_a that_o be_v pious_o do_v indeed_o therefore_o i_o see_v and_o commend_v what_o you_o have_v do_v but_o i_o ask_v what_o be_v it_o that_o stir_v you_o up_o to_o do_v it_o whether_o be_v it_o charity_n set_v faith_n a_o work_n or_o be_v faith_n they_o will_v not_o have_v want_v charity_n to_o administer_v help_n and_o charity_n will_v not_o have_v be_v unrewarded_a but_o let_v we_o reward_n proceed_v suppose_v one_o that_o be_v not_o a_o believer_n whether_o turk_n or_o heathen_a shall_v refresh_v a_o hungry_a christian_a by_o give_v he_o of_o his_o meat_n as_o old_a simon_n the_o pharisee_n entertain_v christ_n with_o a_o dinner_n and_o many_o of_o the_o heathen_n have_v be_v eminent_a in_o office_n of_o kindness_n and_o love_n can_v the_o give_n of_o meat_n and_o drink_n by_o any_o such_o without_o faith_n merit_n eternal_a life_n sure_o not_o but_o if_o a_o believer_n give_v his_o christian_a brother_n so_o much_o as_o a_o cup_n of_o cold_a water_n in_o his_o necessity_n shall_v he_o lack_v his_o reward_n
