be_v save_v and_o that_o we_o may_v somewhat_o discern_v of_o they_o i_o will_v note_v the_o have_v gift_n which_o they_o may_v have_v whereby_o they_o may_v come_v to_o profess_v christ_n true_o they_o may_v be_v reduce_v to_o five_o head_n the_o first_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o 1_o bondage_n to_o fear_n rom._n 8._o 15._o this_o be_v a_o certain_a gift_n of_o god_n whereby_o a_o man_n do_v discern_v the_o right_a meaning_n and_o judicial_a use_n of_o the_o law_n in_o himself_o concern_v sin_n and_o the_o punishment_n thereof_o for_o though_o a_o man_n by_o nature_n know_v something_o of_o the_o law_n yet_o he_o know_v not_o all_o nor_o the_o right_a use_n thereof_o now_o by_o reason_n of_o this_o knowledge_n he_o see_v himself_o in_o bondage_n and_o in_o regard_n thereof_o do_v 1._o where_o some_o false_a prophet_n be_v say_v to_o deny_v christ_n that_o buy_v they_o because_o for_o a_o time_n they_o profess_v themselves_o to_o be_v redeem_v and_o be_v also_o persuade_v in_o a_o general_a sort_n that_o he_o have_v buy_v they_o yet_o herein_o they_o fail_v that_o they_o do_v not_o true_o apprehend_v the_o merit_n of_o christ_n and_o apply_v it_o effectual_o unto_o themselves_o the_o three_o gift_n of_o a_o close_a hypocrite_n be_v a_o taste_n of_o god_n favour_n hebr._n 6._o 6._o it_o be_v say_v of_o some_o that_o fall_v quite_o away_o that_o they_o be_v part_n first_o a_o description_n of_o the_o person_n by_o their_o behaviour_n v_o 22._o second_o a_o declaration_n of_o their_o condemnation_n v_o 23._o for_o the_o first_o these_o professor_n be_v describe_v by_o three_o argument_n i._o by_o their_o number_n many_o ii_o by_o the_o time_n in_o which_o they_o shall_v plead_v thus_o for_o themselves_o and_o stand_v on_o their_o profession_n of_o service_n do_v to_o christ_n in_o that_o day_n that_o be_v in_o that_o great_a and_o terrible_a day_n of_o the_o last_o judgement_n iii_o by_o their_o gift_n and_o quality_n wherewith_o they_o be_v endue_v have_v we_o not_o in_o thy_o name_n prophesy_v and_o by_o thy_o name_n cast_v out_o devil_n etc._n etc._n for_o the_o first_o the_o number_n of_o professor_n which_o shall_v not_o be_v save_v be_v save_v for_o beside_o that_o the_o great_a part_n of_o the_o world_n in_o former_a time_n do_v never_o hear_v of_o christ_n here_o it_o be_v plain_a that_o among_o the_o professor_n of_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n many_o shall_v be_v condemn_v and_o v_o 13._o many_o walk_n in_o the_o broad_a way_n to_o destruction_n few_o in_o the_o narrow_a whereby_o we_o be_v teach_v first_o that_o we_o must_v not_o frame_v our_o life_n according_a to_o the_o example_n of_o the_o multitude_n to_o live_v and_o do_v as_o the_o most_o do_v because_o the_o most_o shall_v be_v condemn_v but_o we_o must_v strive_v to_o enter_v in_o at_o the_o straight_a gate_n and_o to_o be_v of_o that_o little_a flock_n unto_o who_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n be_v promise_v second_o hence_o we_o learn_v not_o to_o content_v ourselves_o to_o live_v as_o most_o man_n and_o woman_n do_v that_o profess_v the_o name_n of_o christ_n but_o we_o must_v labour_v to_o go_v beyond_o the_o multitude_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o repentance_n it_o be_v not_o sufficient_a for_o the_o wise_a virgin_n to_o bear_v the_o name_n of_o virgin_n to_o have_v lamp_n burn_v and_o to_o go_v forth_o to_o meet_v the_o bridegroom_n for_o all_o these_o thing_n do_v the_o foolish_a virgin_n also_o but_o one_o thing_n more_o they_o have_v which_o be_v the_o oil_n of_o grace_n whereby_o they_o be_v enlighten_v to_o go_v with_o the_o bridegroom_n into_o his_o chamber_n which_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n lack_v be_v shut_v out_o of_o the_o doer_n and_o not_o admit_v to_o come_v in_o matth._n 25._o the_o second_o argument_n whereby_o these_o reprobate_a professor_n be_v describe_v be_v the_o circumstance_n of_o time_n when_o they_o shall_v thus_o plead_v for_o themselves_o why_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v condemn_v to_o wit_n at_o the_o last_o day_n when_o they_o shall_v come_v to_o be_v arraign_v at_o the_o tribunal_n fear_v of_o god_n judgement_n this_o be_v a_o point_n of_o great_a weight_n and_o moment_n worthy_a all_o observation_n that_o man_n not_o only_o in_o this_o life_n and_o in_o death_n but_o even_o at_o the_o last_o day_n shall_v thus_o plead_v for_o themselves_o hence_o we_o learn_v that_o many_o profess_v service_n to_o christ_n shall_v conceive_v estate_n in_o their_o mindeâ—_n a_o persuasion_n that_o they_o be_v the_o true_a servant_n and_o child_n of_o god_n they_o shall_v live_v and_o die_v in_o this_o persuasion_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o at_o the_o last_o judgement_n they_o shall_v receive_v the_o sentence_n of_o condemnation_n a_o thing_n deep_o to_o be_v weigh_v of_o every_o one_o and_o the_o consideration_n of_o it_o ought_v to_o teach_v we_o all_o to_o take_v heed_n of_o spiritual_a pride_n and_o self-love_n whereby_o man_n flatter_v and_o deceive_v themselves_o in_o their_o estate_n overween_a the_o good_a thing_n they_o have_v and_o false_o think_v that_o they_o have_v that_o blessing_n of_o god_n which_o indeed_o they_o have_v not_o this_o must_v move_v we_o not_o only_o to_o labour_v to_o be_v purge_v of_o this_o pride_n but_o also_o teach_v we_o to_o suspect_v the_o worst_a of_o ourselves_o and_o to_o judge_v ourselves_o severe_o in_o regard_n of_o unbelief_n and_o hollowness_n of_o heart_n for_o this_o will_v be_v a_o mean_n to_o make_v we_o escape_v the_o judgement_n of_o condemnation_n at_o the_o last_o day_n which_o christ_n shall_v pronounce_v against_o many_o of_o those_o that_o think_v themselves_o to_o be_v his_o servant_n further_o observe_v where_o christ_n say_v in_o that_o day_n he_o single_v out_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n as_o a_o most_o terrible_a day_n and_o say_v they_o shall_v say_v unto_o i_o he_o make_v himself_o the_o judge_n of_o all_o the_o world_n in_o that_o day_n and_o further_o point_v out_o their_o particular_a plead_n for_o themselves_o he_o give_v we_o to_o understand_v that_o he_o be_v very_a god_n who_o know_v long_o before_o not_o only_o the_o speech_n and_o action_n but_o the_o very_a secret_a thought_n and_o imagination_n of_o all_o man_n that_o have_v be_v that_o be_v or_o shall_v be_v from_o the_o begin_n to_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n these_o thing_n lay_v together_o and_o well_o consider_v must_v stir_v up_o in_o our_o heart_n a_o special_a duty_n which_o the_o apostle_n have_v learn_v 2._o cor._n â—_o 11._o even_o lord_n to_o know_v the_o terror_n of_o the_o lord_n that_o be_v not_o only_o in_o judgement_n to_o conceive_v but_o also_o in_o heart_n and_o affection_n to_o be_v persuade_v of_o the_o terrible_a fearfulness_n of_o the_o last_o judgement_n and_o in_o this_o regard_n not_o to_o content_v ourselves_o with_o the_o gift_n of_o knowledge_n and_o with_o a_o outward_a profession_n but_o to_o labour_v for_o soundness_n and_o sincerity_n of_o faith_n of_o repentance_n and_o new_a obedience_n both_o in_o heart_n and_o life_n this_o be_v paul_n practice_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o resurrection_n to_o this_o judgement_n he_o endeavour_v himself_o to_o have_v always_o a_o clear_a conscience_n towards_o god_n and_o towards_o man_n act._n 24._o 16._o and_o this_o duty_n be_v most_o necessary_a for_o such_o be_v our_o ignorance_n and_o unbelief_n that_o we_o little_o regard_v the_o terror_n of_o this_o day_n but_o either_o think_v it_o shall_v not_o come_v or_o though_o it_o do_v we_o shall_v escape_v well_o enough_o the_o three_o argument_n here_o use_v be_v draw_v from_o the_o gift_n and_o quality_n of_o the_o person_n which_o make_v this_o plea_n for_o themselves_o they_o be_v such_o as_o have_v prophesy_v in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n cast_v out_o devil_n &_o do_v many_o great_a work_n in_o his_o name_n to_o prophesy_v here_o signify_v to_o teach_v the_o people_n of_o prophesy_v god_n by_o expound_v the_o scripture_n and_o apply_v the_o same_o to_o the_o conscience_n for_o their_o edification_n and_o this_o office_n be_v call_v pprophecy_n to_o grace_v and_o commend_v the_o office_n of_o a_o minister_n because_o it_o be_v the_o principal_a duty_n of_o the_o prophet_n themselves_o thus_o to_o handle_v the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o the_o instruction_n and_o edification_n of_o god_n people_n howsoever_o at_o some_o time_n they_o do_v foretell_v unto_o god_n people_n thing_n to_o come_v and_o therefore_o he_o which_o have_v this_o office_n and_o discharge_v the_o same_o with_o good_a conscience_n do_v a_o work_n no_o less_o honourable_a then_o do_v the_o ancient_a holy_a prophet_n by_o thy_o name_n the_o name_n of_o christ_n here_o signify_v christ_n for_o those_o who_o the_o church_n call_v lawful_o christ_n himself_o call_v and_o they_o preach_v by_o virtue_n of_o his_o name_n second_o it_o signify_v to_o preach_v in_o the_o room_n and_o stead_n of_o christ_n to_o preach_v that_o which_o christ_n will_v preach_v and_o in_o that_o manner_n also_o which_o christ_n will_v use_v 2._o cor._n 5._o 20._o we_o be_v ambassador_n for_o christ_n as_o though_o god_n do_v beseech_v you_o by_o we_o etc._n etc._n and_o here_o we_o may_v see_v a_o difference_n among_o the_o kind_n of_o teach_v which_o god_n require_v of_o man_n master_n teach_v their_o servant_n parent_n teach_v their_o child_n and_o one_o neighbour_n and_o friend_n another_o but_o all_o these_o differ_v
