god_n foresee_v all_o their_o evil_n from_o everlasting_a and_o as_o that_o hinder_v not_o their_o election_n so_o besure_n it_o shall_v neee_a turn_v they_o out_o of_o it_o but_o we_o be_v bind_v to_o give_v thanks_o always_o to_o god_n for_o you_o brethren_n because_o 13._o god_n have_v from_o the_o beginning_n choose_v you_o to_o salvation_n etc._n etc._n from_o the_o beginning_n that_o be_v from_o before_o the_o world_n begin_v or_o from_o eternity_n for_o the_o absolute_a decree_n of_o god_n according_a to_o his_o eternal_a counsel_n be_v from_o everlasting_a after_o the_o apostle_n be_v damn_v and_o if_o this_o be_v grant_v than_o election_n secure_v they_o they_o can_v final_o fall_v if_o they_o may_v perish_v eternal_o they_o may_v be_v deceive_v with_o damnable_a heresy_n and_o bring_v upon_o themselves_o swift_a and_o utter_a destruction_n but_o they_o can_v be_v so_o deceive_v because_o they_o be_v the_o elect_n therefore_o they_o can_v fall_v away_o so_o as_o to_o perish_v arg._n if_o the_o election_n of_o grace_n be_v absolute_a as_o the_o decree_n of_o argument_n day_n and_o night_n or_o as_o that_o of_o christ_n die_v for_o our_o sin_n if_o we_o be_v elect_v in_o christ_n as_o the_o head_n we_o be_v all_o member_n give_v to_o he_o to_o make_v up_o his_o mystical_a body_n if_o those_o that_o be_v elect_v shall_v be_v call_v justify_v and_o glorify_v if_o the_o mean_n as_o well_o as_o the_o end_n be_v under_o god_n absolute_a decree_n and_o purpose_n if_o our_o election_n do_v as_o absolute_o secure_v we_o from_o final_a apostasy_n as_o the_o the_o nature_n of_o 3._o god_n infinite_a love_n to_o all_o his_o saint_n the_o love_n of_o the_o father_n and_o love_n of_o the_o son_n do_v secure_v they_o from_o perish_v it_o be_v wonderful_a it_o induction_n of_o particular_n 1._o consider_v the_o nature_n of_o that_o covenant_n by_o virtue_n of_o which_o all_o the_o elect_n be_v put_v into_o christ_n hand_n it_o be_v a_o covenant_n make_v and_o enter_v into_o by_o the_o son_n as_o mediator_n with_o the_o father_n not_o only_o to_o redeem_v and_o purchase_v life_n for_o they_o and_o to_o infuse_v life_n in_o they_o but_o to_o preserve_v they_o in_o a_o state_n of_o life_n so_o that_o none_o of_o god_n covenant-children_n may_v depart_v from_o he_o any_o more_o for_o ever_o which_o the_o first_o covenant_n fail_v in_o and_o therefore_o god_n find_v fault_n with_o that_o or_o rather_o with_o they_o with_o who_o it_o be_v make_v who_o fail_v in_o continue_v their_o obedience_n thereunto_o but_o sin_v and_o fall_v from_o god_n now_o say_v i_o god_n to_o prevent_v the_o like_a again_o have_v enter_v into_o a_o new_a covenant_n with_o his_o son_n for_o we_o which_o be_v so_o well_o order_v in_o all_o thing_n and_o sure_a as_o that_o not_o one_o soul_n shall_v ever_o eternal_o miscarry_v that_o be_v comprehend_v therein_o o_o remember_v that_o this_o covenant_n be_v the_o result_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n as_o well_o as_o it_o result_v from_o inconceivable_a love_n and_o goodness_n in_o god_n and_o it_o be_v to_o frustrate_v and_o destroy_v the_o work_n of_o the_o devil_n for_o ever_o so_o that_o he_o may_v jesus_n christ_n work_n now_o he_o be_v in_o heaven_n be_v to_o intercede_v grace_n for_o his_o saint_n and_o be_v sure_a as_o he_o pray_v when_o on_o earth_n that_o the_o faith_n of_o his_o peter_n may_v not_o fail_v so_o he_o make_v the_o like_a intercession_n for_o they_o in_o heaven_n hence_o the_o intercession_n of_o christ_n be_v part_n of_o the_o saint_n holy_a triumph_n in_o that_o of_o roman_n 8._o 34._o who_o be_v he_o that_o condemn_v it_o be_v christ_n that_o die_v yea_o rather_o that_o be_v rise_v again_o who_o also_o make_v intercession_n for_o we_o now_o the_o intercession_n of_o christ_n have_v great_a power_n and_o prevalency_n in_o it_o in_o order_n to_o our_o final_a perseverance_n in_o grace_n 1._o because_o he_o plead_v continual_o with_o god_n the_o virtue_n of_o here_o and_o in_o several_a other_o place_n as_o that_o in_o 1_o tim._n 2._o 4._o who_o will_v have_v all_o man_n save_v etc._n etc._n that_o be_v kings_z as_o well_o as_o peasant_n noble_a as_o well_o as_o ignoble_a rich_a as_o well_o as_o poor_a gentile_n as_o well_o as_o jew_n or_o some_o of_o all_o sort_n the_o gospel_n be_v say_v to_o be_v preach_v in_o paul_n time_n to_o every_o creature_n under_o heaven_n 23._o whereas_o it_o reach_v then_o but_o to_o a_o small_a part_n of_o the_o world_n one_o great_a part_n not_o be_v at_o that_o time_n know_v or_o find_v out_o as_o one_o well_o observe_v 2._o be_v the_o birth_n of_o christ_n matter_n of_o joy_n in_o the_o effect_n of_o it_o to_o judas_n and_o to_o the_o unbelieve_a jew_n and_o to_o many_o more_o 3._o i_o argue_v thus_o if_o the_o birth_n and_o death_n of_o christ_n be_v cause_n of_o great_a joy_n to_o all_o person_n individual_o consider_v it_o must_v be_v thus_o either_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o design_n purpose_n and_o intention_n of_o god_n because_o of_o such_o joy_n unto_o they_o or_o else_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o certain_a effect_n of_o his_o birth_n and_o death_n but_o 1._o who_o will_v say_v that_o god_n according_a to_o his_o eternal_a purpose_n and_o design_n do_v intend_v it_o for_o the_o salvation_n of_o every_o individual_a person_n none_o can_v be_v so_o weak_a sure_o to_o assert_v that_o for_o who_o shall_v resist_v god_n will_n or_o withstand_v god_n absolute_a design_n purpose_n and_o intention_n christ_n must_v accomplish_v or_o effect_v the_o salvation_n of_o all_o if_o in_o that_o sense_n it_o be_v matter_n or_o cause_n of_o joy_n unto_o all_o or_o that_o he_o die_v for_o all_o or_o that_o god_n will_v have_v all_o that_o be_v every_o individual_a man_n and_o woman_n in_o the_o world_n save_v 2._o and_o as_o to_o the_o effect_n of_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n it_o be_v evident_a quite_o otherwise_o for_o multitude_n have_v no_o save_a benefit_n thereby_o therefore_o it_o follow_v clear_o that_o that_o be_v not_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o text_n nor_o mind_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n though_o in_o some_o sense_n the_o birth_n and_o death_n of_o christ_n be_v cause_n of_o joy_n to_o all_o since_o every_o one_o receive_v all_o that_o good_a thereby_o whatsoever_o it_o be_v they_o be_v possess_v of_o 4._o do_v not_o simeon_n by_o the_o holy_a he_o die_v in_o their_o stead_n for_o who_o he_o suffer_v death_n so_o that_o they_o may_v never_o die_v eternal_o object_n 2._o if_o there_o be_v such_o a_o decree_n of_o election_n and_o that_o none_o shall_v be_v save_v but_o those_o that_o god_n have_v ordain_v to_o eternal_a life_n what_o need_v man_n seek_v after_o or_o regard_v the_o salvation_n of_o their_o soul_n answ_n this_o objection_n we_o have_v large_o answer_v under_o our_o first_o argument_n to_o prove_v the_o saint_n final_a perseverance_n take_v from_o the_o treatise_n election_n of_o grace_n to_o which_o i_o refer_v you_o object_n 3._o this_o doctrine_n of_o election_n and_o final_a perseverance_n tend_v to_o make_v man_n loose_a and_o remiss_a in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n answ_n 1._o what_o can_v be_v a_o great_a mistake_n do_v the_o certain_a sin_n ground_n of_o hope_n of_o obtain_v the_o victory_n tend_v to_o make_v a_o soldier_n remiss_a and_o careless_a when_o engage_v in_o the_o battle_n or_o do_v they_o not_o much_o more_o animate_v he_o to_o fight_v courageous_o 2._o shall_v a_o child_n be_v take_v off_o from_o his_o duty_n or_o be_v remiss_a in_o serve_v his_o father_n because_o his_o father_n tell_v he_o he_o shall_v never_o be_v disinherit_v 3._o do_v not_o christ_n know_v that_o the_o angel_n have_v charge_n over_o he_o yet_o be_v he_o less_o careful_a of_o his_o own_o preservation_n and_o do_v not_o paul_n assure_v all_o that_o be_v in_o the_o ship_n with_o he_o that_o they_o shall_v all_o be_v save_v yet_o do_v that_o take_v he_o
off_o from_o press_v care_n and_o diligence_n on_o the_o mariner_n 4._o that_o god_n who_o have_v ordain_v the_o end_n i_o tell_v you_o again_o have_v also_o ordain_v the_o mean_n without_o holiness_n no_o man_n shall_v see_v 14._o the_o lord_n we_o be_v choose_v in_o christ_n that_o we_o may_v be_v holy_a and_o without_o blame_n before_o he_o in_o love_n nor_o can_v any_o ever_o come_v to_o any_o the_o fruit_n and_o effect_n of_o election_n 5._o the_o decree_n of_o election_n consider_v absolute_o in_o itself_o without_o respect_n have_v unto_o its_o effect_n be_v no_o part_n of_o god_n reveal_v will_n that_o be_v it_o be_v not_o reveal_v that_o this_o man_n be_v and_o that_o man_n be_v not_o elect_v this_o therefore_o can_v be_v make_v neither_o argument_n nor_o objection_n about_o any_o thing_n wherein_o faith_n and_o obedience_n be_v concern_v 6._o the_o sovereign_n and_o ever-to-be-adored_n grace_n and_o distinguish_a love_n of_o god_n be_v lay_v down_o in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o be_v the_o great_a motive_n to_o holiness_n imaginable_a who_o make_v thou_o to_o differ_v from_o another_o o_o that_o god_n shall_v open_v my_o eye_n call_v i_o by_o his_o 7._o grace_n may_v a_o believer_n say_v shall_v i_o sin_v against_o he_o because_o his_o grace_n so_o abound_v to_o i_o god_n forbid_v if_o god_n have_v elect_v i_o i_o may_v live_v in_o sin_n walk_v as_o i_o list_v be_v the_o language_n rather_o of_o a_o devil_n than_o of_o a_o man_n much_o less_o of_o a_o saint_n i_o speak_v the_o more_o to_o this_o because_o i_o will_v show_v you_o that_o be_v believer_n what_o improvement_n you_o ought_v to_o make_v of_o god_n free_a grace_n and_o love_n to_o you_o put_v on_o therefore_o as_o the_o elect_a of_o god_n holy_a and_o belove_a bowel_n of_o mercy_n 12._o kindness_n humbleness_n of_o mind_n meekness_n long-suffering_a forbear_v one_o another_o and_o forgive_a one_o another_o and_o as_o moses_n say_v consider_v what_o great_a thing_n god_n have_v do_v for_o you_o object_n 4._o if_o i_o shall_v persevere_v to_o the_o end_n what_o need_n be_v there_o of_o those_o take-heed_n in_o the_o scripture_n why_o be_v we_o bid_v to_o watch_v and_o take_v heed_n lest_o we_o fall_v answ_n this_o be_v all_o one_o with_o the_o former_a beside_o i_o answer_v it_o large_o when_o i_o first_o enter_v upon_o my_o work_n but_o yet_o let_v i_o add_v a_o word_n or_o two_o further_a 1._o a_o child_n of_o god_n may_v sin_v and_o fall_v grievous_o and_o great_o dishonour_n god_n and_o bring_v reproach_n on_o the_o gospel_n which_o may_v tend_v to_o grieve_v some_o and_o harden_v other_o nay_o he_o may_v lose_v his_o comfort_n and_o joy_n of_o god_n salvation_n therefore_o have_v need_n to_o watch_v satan_n be_v a_o strong_a a_o vigilant_a and_o cunning_a enemy_n o_o see_v what_o reason_n you_o have_v from_o thence_o to_o watch_v and_o pray_v 2._o if_o you_o grow_v careless_a carnal_a or_o indifferent_a in_o the_o matter_n of_o religion_n it_o may_v be_v a_o sign_n that_o your_o heart_n be_v not_o right_a with_o god_n many_o of_o the_o member_n of_o the_o church_n to_o who_o the_o epistle_n be_v direct_v be_v no_o more_o than_o be_v in_o christ_n a_o external_n be_v in_o he_o by_o a_o profession_n and_o a_o true_a spiritual_n be_v in_o he_o object_n 6._o if_o christ_n die_v not_o for_o all_o what_o ground_n have_v i_o to_o some_o of_o they_o that_o put_v christ_n to_o death_n and_o be_v here_o not_o ground_n of_o faith_n and_o hope_n for_o thou_o 7._o remember_v that_o if_o thou_o believe_v not_o but_o do_v continue_v in_o thy_o sin_n and_o rebellion_n against_o god_n thou_o shall_v be_v certain_o damn_v thy_o reject_v of_o christ_n will_v have_v that_o effect_v at_o last_o upon_o all_o unbeliever_n 1â—_n 8._o
