we_o shall_v see_v hereafter_o the_o second_o thing_n that_o trouble_v he_o be_v the_o misshape_a form_n of_o our_o present_a earth_n as_o he_o think_v not_o become_v the_o omnipotent_a power_n of_o god_n who_o create_v all_o thing_n and_o after_o every_o work_n affirm_v that_o it_o be_v good_a which_o no_o man_n can_v say_v of_o this_o imperfect_a world_n for_o it_o have_v scarce_o any_o thing_n in_o it_o of_o form_n or_o order_n but_o lie_v like_o a_o confuse_a mass_n of_o ruin_n but_o though_o the_o creation_n be_v the_o first_o thing_n in_o order_n yet_o in_o his_o book_n he_o put_v it_o in_o the_o second_o place_n and_o begin_v with_o the_o deluge_n as_o most_o to_o his_o purpose_n show_v the_o impossibility_n of_o it_o according_a to_o his_o scheme_n of_o philosophy_n for_o by_o be_v but_o pretend_v to_o bring_v in_o his_o new_a devise_a fancy_n of_o make_v another_o world_n very_o different_a from_o that_o which_o moses_n describe_v in_o the_o creation_n this_o be_v his_o belove_a darling_n which_o he_o will_v glad_o compel_v we_o to_o receive_v by_o show_v we_o first_o the_o impossibility_n of_o such_o a_o deluge_n in_o this_o world_n as_o now_o it_o appear_v and_o from_o thence_o he_o introduce_v a_o world_n of_o his_o own_o frame_n and_o show_v thereby_o his_o admirable_a wit_n and_o part_n as_o he_o conceive_v in_o its_o composure_n which_o we_o shall_v see_v when_o we_o come_v to_o it_o at_o present_a we_o will_v follow_v his_o method_n and_o begin_v with_o the_o deluge_n the_o common_a opinion_n whereof_o he_o reject_v because_o it_o be_v not_o intelligible_a iv._o he_o lay_v down_o this_o rule_n that_o in_o all_o thing_n appertain_v to_o this_o natural_a world_n which_o consist_v of_o matter_n and_o form_n we_o must_v not_o allow_v of_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v not_o agreeable_a to_o the_o ordinary_a course_n of_o nature_n which_o he_o suppose_v may_v be_v conceive_v in_o a_o rational_a way_n as_o for_o example_n that_o two_o material_a body_n can_v penetrate_v the_o one_o into_o the_o other_o this_o be_v against_o the_o principle_n of_o his_o philosophy_n and_o therefore_o we_o ought_v not_o to_o allow_v that_o the_o be_v unintelligible_a and_o therefore_o we_o allow_v not_o the_o popish_a transubstantiation_n so_o likewise_o we_o reject_v their_o purgatory_n because_o it_o be_v unintelligible_a how_o the_o soul_n separate_v from_o the_o body_n be_v a_o pure_a spiritual_a substance_n can_v suffer_v by_o material_a fire_n and_o suchlike_a their_o tenet_n yet_o we_o believe_v the_o first_o that_o the_o bless_a moist_a blade_n and_o that_o grow_v into_o a_o ear_n and_o become_v wheat_n again_o or_o who_o do_v understand_v the_o various_a flow_n and_o ebbing_n of_o the_o sea_n these_o be_v thing_n our_o very_a sense_n tell_v we_o be_v so_o yet_o our_o reason_n do_v not_o at_o all_o understand_v how_o they_o come_v to_o be_v so_o shall_v man_n then_o who_o understand_v not_o himself_o nor_o the_o mean_a work_n of_o god_n by_o his_o shallow_a weak_a reason_n examine_v and_o determine_v the_o great_a and_o wonderful_a work_n of_o god_n god_n forbid_v v._o but_o this_o man_n perchance_o will_v depth_n of_o all_o the_o sea_n in_o the_o world_n not_o only_o near_o the_o shore_n but_o in_o the_o main_a fathomless_a ocean_n nay_o his_o skill_n reach_v above_o the_o heaven_n and_o can_v tell_v you_o the_o quantity_n of_o water_n there_o by_o what_o art_n or_o instrument_n this_o be_v compute_v be_v best_o know_v to_o himself_o but_o not_o intelligible_a to_o any_o body_n else_o but_o let_v we_o hear_v the_o rest_n he_o than_o affirm_v that_o all_o the_o water_n upon_o or_o under_o the_o earth_n together_o with_o the_o water_n above_o the_o firmament_n will_v not_o amount_v to_o much_o above_o one_o ocean_n so_o that_o there_o will_v be_v above_o six_o want_v to_o fill_v up_o the_o valley_n to_o the_o mountain_n top_n and_o fifteen_o cubit_n upward_o you_o must_v know_v this_o man_n be_v a_o rare_a geographer_n also_o and_o have_v take_v the_o height_n of_o every_o mountain_n and_o the_o depth_n of_o every_o valley_n in_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o can_v tell_v you_o what_o quantity_n of_o water_n be_v requisite_a to_o fill_v they_o up_o and_o make_v a_o even_a sphere_n with_o the_o whole_a earth_n and_o then_o conclude_v that_o it_o be_v not_o intelligible_a from_o whence_o so_o great_a a_o quantity_n of_o water_n shall_v be_v produce_v and_o whither_o it_o shall_v be_v convey_v after_o the_o deluge_n well_o let_v it_o be_v unintelligible_a be_v it_o a_o good_a consequence_n therefore_o to_o say_v it_o be_v incredible_a this_o man_n profess_v to_o believe_v that_o god_n create_v all_o this_o whole_a world_n from_o nothing_o not_o only_o the_o earth_n but_o the_o vast_a incomprehensible_a heaven_n with_o sun_n and_o moon_n and_o all_o the_o innumerable_a star_n and_o believe_v this_o can_v not_o doubt_v but_o god_n have_v a_o mind_n to_o overflow_v the_o seven_o day_n from_o all_o his_o work_n certain_o can_v imply_v that_o god_n must_v never_o work_v more_o john_n 5._o 17._o christ_n faith_n my_o father_n work_v hitherto_o and_o i_o work_v we_o find_v in_o the_o gospel_n our_o saviour_n feed_v five_o thousand_o man_n with_o five_o loaf_n and_o two_o fish_n i_o may_v as_o well_o say_v this_o be_v unintelligible_a and_o consequent_o incredible_a yet_o no_o good_a christian_a doubt_n of_o the_o truth_n and_o why_o then_o may_v not_o god_n multiply_v the_o water_n in_o that_o deluge_n as_o well_o as_o multiply_v the_o loaf_n in_o the_o gospel_n wherefore_o if_o we_o say_v that_o the_o water_n in_o this_o great_a deluge_n be_v multiply_v methinks_v a_o true_a believer_n shall_v rest_v satisfy_v with_o such_o a_o answer_n for_o this_o way_n of_o multiplication_n better_o satisfy_v a_o objection_n of_o he_o make_v pag._n 19_o that_o moses_n say_v the_o water_n increase_v by_o degree_n for_o when_o our_o saviour_n multiply_v the_o loaf_n he_o do_v not_o at_o once_o create_v as_o many_o as_o will_v satisfy_v the_o five_o thousand_o but_o multiply_v they_o by_o degree_n as_o the_o disciple_n distribute_v they_o and_o when_o zone_n where_o it_o be_v most_o likely_a to_o break_v be_v thereabouts_o much_o more_o parch_a and_o chop_v than_o in_o other_o part_n methinks_v those_o vapour_n go_v forth_o at_o liberty_n his_o great_a pitcher_n shall_v cease_v from_o it_o boil_a fury_n and_o the_o remain_a body_n of_o the_o earth_n may_v still_o have_v continue_v its_o dainty_a spherical_a form_n for_o certain_o those_o part_n under_o the_o torrid_a zone_n and_o nearit_fw-la will_v have_v be_v more_o chop_v and_o make_v ready_a for_o a_o breach_n in_o the_o first_o six_o hundred_o year_n than_o the_o northern_a part_n in_o the_o whole_a sixteen_o hundred_o especial_o consider_v the_o earth_n as_o he_o will_v have_v it_o be_v set_v in_o that_o posture_n to_o the_o sun_n and_o be_v so_o unfufferable_o hot_a thereabouts_o as_o no_o man_n live_v can_v endure_v it_o for_o so_o he_o set_v it_o forth_o when_o he_o come_v to_o treat_v of_o paradise_n and_o divide_v the_o world_n into_o two_o hemisphere_n by_o the_o torrid_a zone_n and_o that_o man_n can_v not_o pass_v from_o one_o to_o the_o other_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o excessive_a heat_n wherefore_o as_o i_o say_v it_o must_v needs_o be_v that_o this_o part_n must_v break_v many_o hundred_o year_n before_o the_o northern_a part_n and_o the_o vapour_n get_v out_o the_o struggle_a and_o break_v of_o the_o earth_n
shall_v cease_v but_o he_o will_v say_v the_o water_n come_v out_o from_o thence_o may_v overflow_v all_o the_o earth_n especial_o there_o be_v also_o great_a rain_n at_o the_o same_o time_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v according_a to_o his_o own_o rule_n in_o his_o first_o book_n chap._n 2._o that_o all_o the_o vapour_n in_o the_o upper_a region_n condense_v and_o become_v solid_a water_n do_v not_o make_v up_o the_o hundred_o part_n of_o what_o it_o be_v before_o to_o this_o he_o add_v another_o reason_n there_o a_o experiment_n make_v by_o a_o cubical_a vessel_n set_v forth_o to_o 75._o which_o like_o the_o great_a dragon_n in_o the_o apocalypse_n with_o their_o wonderful_a tail_n sweep_v away_o a_o great_a part_n of_o mankind_n yet_o the_o great_a part_n for_o aught_o i_o three_o mountain_n or_o half_o a_o dozen_o fall_v into_o his_o gulf_n at_o once_o they_o may_v raise_v the_o water_n oblike_o a_o great_a way_n on_o either_o side_n i_o pray_v you_o how_o far_o shall_v i_o yield_v unto_o he_o a_o hundred_o mile_n or_o five_o hundred_o mile_n sure_a i_o yield_v a_o great_a way_n yet_o this_o will_v come_v very_o far_o short_a of_o the_o northern_a pole_n before_o the_o earth_n must_v needs_o break_v in_o those_o part_n next_o the_o torrid_a zone_n several_a hundred_o year_n before_o the_o northern_a and_o thus_o the_o great_a part_n of_o his_o habitable_a world_n will_v have_v escape_v the_o deluge_n again_o i_o pray_v you_o consider_v what_o moses_n say_v of_o the_o flood_n and_o this_o man_n urge_v also_o upon_o other_o occasion_n when_o it_o seem_v to_o serve_v his_o turn_n as_o when_o he_o argue_v against_o the_o creation_n of_o new_a water_n for_o that_o will_v make_v a_o sudden_a rise_n of_o water_n against_o which_o he_o urge_v the_o word_n of_o moses_n who_o say_v that_o the_o flood_n increase_v by_o degree_n till_o at_o length_n it_o lift_v up_o the_o ark_n above_o the_o earth_n and_o carry_v it_o upon_o the_o face_n of_o the_o water_n and_o so_o decrease_v by_o degree_n but_o now_o the_o case_n be_v alter_v and_o the_o water_n must_v dash_v up_o and_o turnble_a down_o on_o a_o sudden_a be_v this_o increase_n by_o degree_n forty_o day_n or_o forty_o hour_n when_o the_o water_n can_v not_o be_v four_o minute_n in_o dash_v up_o and_o so_o tumble_v down_o again_o and_o thus_o he_o do_v in_o several_a place_n of_o his_o theory_n now_o pro_n and_o then_o con._n xvii_o and_o now_o come_v a_o thing_n very_o admirable_a he_o endeavour_v to_o screw_v out_o the_o ground_n of_o this_o romantic_a rupture_n from_o those_o few_o word_n of_o moses_n the_o fountain_n of_o the_o great_a deep_a be_v break_v open_a mark_v you_o say_v he_o here_o moses_n first_o speak_v of_o break_v open_a from_o whence_o he_o conclude_v a_o great_a breach_n and_o of_o what_o the_o fountain_n of_o the_o great_a deep_a and_o this_o great_a deep_a he_o suppose_v be_v all_o include_v within_o the_o earth_n and_o have_v no_o fountain_n at_o all_o issue_v out_o for_o he_o allow_v no_o fountain_n in_o his_o new_a earth_n and_o therefore_o by_o fountain_n you_o must_v conceive_v moses_n do_v not_o mean_v such_o flow_a fountain_n as_o we_o have_v but_o the_o break_n or_o cleave_v the_o earth_n asunder_o when_o the_o water_n with_o the_o vapour_n force_v its_o way_n out_o but_o all_o this_o fancy_n of_o he_o be_v to_o any_o man_n that_o have_v not_o his_o head_n already_o fill_v with_o such_o a_o vain_a fancy_n as_o the_o rupture_n of_o the_o whole_a earth_n but_o pass_v over_o all_o this_o let_v we_o now_o consider_v whether_o this_o be_v the_o deluge_n that_o moses_n mean_v xviii_o he_o say_v the_o flood_n be_v forty_o day_n upon_o the_o earth_n and_o the_o water_n increase_v and_o bear_v up_o the_o ark_n and_o it_o be_v lift_v up_o above_o the_o earth_n here_o we_o have_v a_o increase_n of_o the_o water_n forty_o day_n by_o the_o flow_a of_o the_o fountain_n from_o the_o great_a deep_a and_o the_o window_n of_o heaven_n be_v open_v both_o in_o the_o same_o day_n but_o in_o his_o description_n of_o the_o flood_n he_o put_v the_o rain_n forty_o day_n before_o any_o breach_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o when_o the_o earth_n break_v what_o become_v of_o the_o ark_n moses_n say_v it_o be_v bear_v up_o and_o lift_v above_o the_o earth_n by_o the_o water_n prevail_v but_o in_o his_o description_n the_o earth_n must_v first_o break_v under_o the_o ark_n and_o so_o the_o ark_n necessary_o must_v fall_v along_o with_o it_o into_o the_o water_n which_o be_v under_o the_o earth_n and_o this_o he_o will_v have_v to_o be_v the_o same_o with_o lift_v up_o above_o the_o earth_n but_o poor_a noah_n with_o his_o son_n and_o daughter_n find_v it_o otherwise_o and_o sure_o be_v mighty_o amaze_v to_o find_v themselves_o so_o much_o deceive_v in_o god_n promise_n have_v take_v so_o great_a pain_n to_o make_v a_o ark_n to_o save_v they_o by_o swim_v upon_o the_o water_n yet_o be_v now_o tumble_v headlong_o down_o ark_n and_o all_o into_o the_o abyss_n a_o rare_a way_n of_o lift_v up_o then_o another_o great_a part_n of_o the_o earth_n fall_v into_o the_o abyss_n flounce_v the_o water_n up_o with_o a_o mighty_a force_n even_o unto_o the_o heaven_n and_o make_v there_o as_o it_o be_v a_o fly_a river_n as_o his_o own_o word_n express_v it_o in_o the_o end_n of_o the_o six_o chapter_n and_o so_o one_o piece_n of_o the_o earth_n after_o another_o fall_n down_o into_o the_o abyss_n there_o be_v such_o a_o commotion_n and_o tempest_n raise_v
and_o the_o ark_n with_o it_o toss_v up_o so_o often_o into_o the_o air_n with_o his_o fly_a river_n and_o carry_v headlong_o again_o down_o into_o the_o abyss_n that_o the_o preservation_n of_o it_o deluge_n nor_o of_o this_o tempest_n and_o for_o he_o to_o say_v it_o be_v below_o the_o dignity_n of_o the_o sacred_a penman_n to_o give_v a_o cause_n when_o they_o particular_o relate_v the_o cause_n be_v very_o absurd_a and_o also_o quite_o contrary_a for_o moses_n express_o declare_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o flood_n to_o be_v the_o run_n of_o the_o fountain_n of_o the_o great_a deep_a and_o not_o the_o break_n of_o the_o earth_n which_o he_o can_v not_o call_v fountain_n fountain_n be_v quite_o another_o thing_n wherefore_o it_o be_v evident_a this_o man_n make_v use_v of_o scripture_n only_o to_o give_v some_o credit_n to_o his_o theory_n with_o inconsiderate_a people_n that_o mind_n scripture_n very_o little_a moses_n go_v on_o in_o his_o description_n of_o the_o flood_n and_o say_v that_o all_o the_o hill_n and_o mountain_n under_o the_o whole_a heaven_n continue_v cover_v many_o day_n until_o the_o beginning_n of_o the_o ten_o month_n when_o the_o water_n begin_v to_o decrease_v and_o then_o decrease_v forty_o day_n by_o degree_n the_o top_n of_o the_o mountain_n begin_v to_o appear_v all_o the_o other_o part_n be_v cover_v still_o with_o water_n for_o the_o top_n only_o appear_v but_o this_o man_n will_v have_v it_o clean_o otherwise_o the_o water_n do_v not_o prevail_v and_o ascend_v to_o the_o top_n of_o the_o mountain_n in_o his_o spherical_a the_o whole_a earth_n fall_v down_o or_o no_o if_o not_o all_o than_o the_o part_n remain_v be_v not_o cover_v with_o water_n and_o so_o the_o deluge_n be_v not_o universal_a the_o man_n then_o that_o live_v upon_o those_o part_n of_o the_o earth_n may_v escape_v the_o deluge_n but_o moses_n say_v the_o flood_n destroy_v all_o flesh_n live_v except_o noah_n and_o he_o and_o if_o the_o whole_a earth_n do_v fall_v into_o the_o water_n than_o the_o whole_a earth_n be_v cover_v all_o at_o once_o by_o his_o own_o confession_n and_o the_o deluge_n be_v universal_a in_o that_o manner_n as_o we_o affirm_v but_o he_o deny_v now_o whether_o all_o the_o hill_n in_o this_o world_n be_v make_v by_o the_o flood_n or_o no_o we_o will_v not_o question_v but_o say_v he_o they_o be_v all_o make_v by_o he_o call_v the_o flood_n yet_o when_o they_o be_v make_v all_o be_v cover_v by_o water_n and_o many_o cubit_n high_o let_v this_o man_n ask_v moses_n whence_o he_o have_v all_o this_o water_n for_o that_o be_v the_o principle_n on_o which_o he_o depend_v for_o his_o whole_a theory_n which_o this_o of_o moses_n plain_o confute_v xix_o now_o the_o sum_n of_o all_o this_o discourse_n lie_v here_o moses_n as_o plain_o as_o a_o man_n can_v express_v it_o declare_v that_o the_o water_n whole_o encompass_v the_o earth_n all_o at_o once_o to_o the_o height_n of_o fifteen_o cubit_n above_o the_o high_a mountain_n this_o quantity_n of_o water_n say_v our_o theorist_n be_v unintelligible_a i_o say_v it_o be_v very_o intelligible_a without_o make_v use_n of_o god_n omnipotent_a power_n in_o remain_v under_o the_o firmament_n do_v once_o encompass_v the_o earth_n why_o may_v it_o not_o again_o in_o the_o deluge_n encompass_v the_o same_o earth_n overflow_a all_n yea_o and_o fifteen_o cubit_n more_o if_o he_o say_v the_o water_n be_v not_o so_o deep_a after_o they_o be_v divide_v i_o desire_v he_o first_o to_o prove_v that_o if_o he_o can_v and_o after_o he_o have_v prove_v it_o i_o have_v yet_o a_o great_a reserve_n of_o water_n to_o make_v the_o deluge_n viz._n the_o water_n which_o god_n carry_v up_o above_o the_o firmament_n i_o do_v not_o mean_a mist_n and_o vapour_n in_o the_o firmament_n or_o in_o the_o air_n below_o which_o say_v he_o be_v condense_v will_v make_v up_o but_o a_o small_a quantity_n of_o water_n to_o contribute_v towards_o a_o deluge_n let_v it_o be_v so_o i_o speak_v not_o of_o such_o vapour_n but_o of_o real_a solid_a water_n part_n of_o that_o deep_a abyss_n which_o encompass_v the_o whole_a earth_n at_o first_o and_o god_n divide_v and_o place_v above_o the_o firmament_n if_o he_o ask_v i_o in_o what_o place_n they_o be_v settle_v i_o free_o confess_v i_o do_v not_o know_v yet_o god_n word_n have_v say_v it_o and_o i_o very_o easy_o believe_v it_o be_v do_v though_o where_o he_o place_v they_o i_o will_v not_o take_v upon_o i_o to_o determine_v i_o hope_v he_o believe_v it_o be_v do_v as_o well_o as_o i_o and_o then_o if_o he_o the_o creation_n of_o sun_n moon_n star_n etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v a_o strange_a thing_n that_o this_o be_v do_v in_o the_o middle_n of_o the_o creation_n he_o frame_v his_o world_n and_o take_v no_o notice_n of_o they_o when_o or_o how_o they_o have_v their_o be_v but_o this_o be_v a_o mystery_n we_o must_v be_v ignorant_a of_o and_o pass_v it_o over_o in_o silence_n however_o if_o he_o think_v not_o sit_v to_o meddle_v with_o these_o thing_n yet_o methinks_v he_o may_v have_v tell_v we_o something_o more_o plain_o of_o the_o creature_n below_o how_o they_o be_v produce_v and_o first_o for_o fish_n he_o pass_v they_o over_o in_o silence_n as_o not_o sit_v to_o be_v mention_v in_o his_o black_a sea_n under_o the_o earth_n and_o as_o for_o fowl_n and_o beast_n he_o seem_v not_o full_o resolve_v whether_o they_o be_v produce_v all_o at_o one_o stroke_n or_o no_o as_o he_o phrase_n it_o that_o be_v all_o at_o their_o full_a growth_n but_o seem_v rather_o to_o believe_v that_o the_o earth_n of_o itself_o spawn_v they_o forth_o in_o their_o first_o seed_n and_o that_o in_o time_n they_o grow_v up_o to_o more_o strength_n and_o perfection_n here_o he_o mention_n not_o 〈◊〉_d all_o god_n command_v impower_v the_o earth_n to_o produce_v they_o that_o be_v contrary_a to_o his_o course_n who_o will_v needs_o have_v nature_n alone_a act_n in_o all_o thing_n and_o true_o for_o my_o part_n i_o have_v not_o faith_n enough_o to_o believe_v that_o his_o fine_a fat_a oily_a earth_n ever_o so_o fat_a be_v able_a to_o produce_v creature_n of_o itself_o produce_v these_o various_a creature_n methinks_v the_o same_o earth_n have_v the_o same_o principle_n of_o life_n in_o it_o shall_v still_o have_v go_v on_o to_o produce_v more_o and_o more_o creature_n till_o at_o length_n the_o whole_a earth_n shall_v be_v cover_v by_o they_o but_o i_o leave_v he_o to_o confider_v more_o of_o this_o matter_n vii_o we_o will_v rather_o hearken_v to_o moses_n who_o plain_o tell_v we_o that_o both_o the_o earth_n and_o the_o water_n produce_v these_o creature_n by_o god_n special_a command_n and_o when_o his_o command_n cease_v their_o production_n also_o cease_v and_o far_o tell_v we_o god_n command_v the_o sea_n to_o produce_v all_o sort_n of_o fish_n among_o other_o the_o great_a whale_n do_v all_o these_o swim_v up_o and_o down_o in_o his_o sea_n under_o the_o earth_n and_o the_o great_a leviathan_n take_v his_o pastime_n therein_o as_o the_o scripture_n say_v he_o have_v but_o a_o dark_a place_n to_o sport_n himself_o in_o nor_o any_o room_n to_o spout_v up_o the_o water_n into_o the_o air_n as_o he_o have_v in_o our_o sea_n sure_o he_o rejoice_v much_o when_o this_o earth_n break_v and_o let_v the_o water_n go_v abroad_o to_o water_n bring_v forth_o abundant_o the_o move_a creature_n that_o have_v life_n and_o fowl_n that_o may_v fly_v above_o the_o earth_n in_o the_o open_a firmament_n of_o heaven_n be_v then_o all_o the_o sort_n of_o fowl_n under_o heaven_n produce_v by_o his_o sea_n shut_v up_o under_o the_o earth_n true_o i_o can_v as_o little_o believe_v that_o water_n of_o itself_o shall_v produce_v a_o eagle_n as_o the_o earth_n a_o horse_n yet_o we_o must_v believe_v nature_n can_v do_v all_o thing_n but_o if_o water_n natural_o produce_v fowl_n at_o the_o begin_n of_o his_o world_n why_o shall_v able_a to_o raise_v themselves_o up_o a_o spirit_n from_o the_o sea_n but_o i_o never_o meet_v with_o any_o traveller_n who_o tell_v we_o that_o either_o sea_n lakes_n or_o river_n produce_v eagle_n swan_n kite_n or_o raven_n or_o any_o other_o fowl_n the_o earth_n perchance_o he_o will_v say_v be_v grow_v more_o barren_a since_o the_o fraction_n but_o the_o water_n sure_o must_v be_v the_o fat_a that_o fat_a oily_a earth_n have_v fall_v in_o to_o enrich_v it_o beside_o it_o have_v now_o the_o warmth_n of_o the_o sun_n to_o help_v forward_o its_o production_n but_o he_o will_v have_v it_o otherwise_o and_o we_o must_v submit_v yet_o i_o desire_v he_o to_o tell_v we_o how_o the_o fowl_n be_v produce_v by_o his_o water_n under_o the_o earth_n how_o they_o get_v out_o certain_o they_o can_v not_o get_v out_o till_o the_o deluge_n when_o the_o earth_n break_v and_o let_v they_o also_o fly_v abroad_o at_o liberty_n his_o earth_n be_v firm_o close_v up_o on_o every_o side_n not_o one_o loophole_n to_o fly_v out_o at_o for_o he_o will_v not_o allow_v so_o much_o as_o a_o spring_n in_o his_o earth_n to_o arise_v from_o the_o sea_n and_o by_o this_o mean_v they_o must_v needs_o have_v be_v drown_v as_o soon_o as_o they_o be_v make_v have_v no_o place_n to_o fly_v abroad_o under_o heaven_n no_o nor_o any_o space_n of_o air_n between_o the_o water_n and_o his_o oily_a substance_n i_o believe_v these_o thing_n will_v make_v any_o serious_a man_n stumble_v much_o at_o his_o theory_n and_o i_o desire_v he_o to_o consider_v that_o man_n will_v expect_v to_o be_v satisfy_v in_o these_o great_a seem_a absurdity_n viii_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n we_o will_v proceed_v to_o examine_v his_o fluid_a mass_n in_o itself_o without_o any_o relation_n to_o the_o animal_n beforementioned_a and_o how_o the_o part_n divide_v themselves_o and_o by_o degree_n separate_v one_o from_o another_o till_o at_o length_n the_o heavy_a sink_v downward_o and_o the_o light_a mount_a upward_o it_o settle_v in_o all_o these_o distinct_a body_n of_o earth_n water_n oil_n air_n fire_n and_o the_o heaven_n above_o which_o he_o never_o tell_v we_o yet_o what_o they_o be_v make_v of_o therefore_o we_o go_v no_o far_o than_o fire_n and_o when_o all_o these_o be_v distinct_a than_o this_o oily_a substance_n to_o settle_v concrete_a and_o harden_v and_o make_v up_o a_o new-fashioned_a god_n have_v promise_v unto_o noah_n never_o to_o destroy_v mankind_n again_o by_o another_o flood_n make_v good_a his_o word_n and_o choose_v unto_o himself_o righteous_a abraham_n and_o his_o wife_n etc._n etc._n and_o pretend_v to_o deliver_v to_o we_o a_o new_a and_o strange_a interpretation_n of_o scripture_n which_o neither_o we_o nor_o our_o father_n before_o we_o ever_o hear_v of_o and_o by_o his_o philosophy_n will_v not_o only_o confute_v all_o other_o philosopher_n before_o he_o but_o also_o christian_n in_o their_o divinity_n and_o will_v make_v it_o as_o plain_a unto_o they_o as_o the_o sun_n at_o noonday_n that_o they_o have_v not_o yet_o have_v a_o right_a understanding_n of_o these_o thing_n and_o though_o david_n say_v the_o heaven_n declare_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o firmament_n show_v his_o handiwork_n he_o will_v be_v so_o bold_a as_o to_o tell_v david_n that_o neither_o these_o heaven_n nor_o this_o earth_n be_v the_o same_o which_o they_o be_v at_o the_o creation_n and_o so_o continue_v till_o the_o deluge_n but_o quite_o another_o thing_n and_o therefore_o neither_o
