i_o have_v mention_v namely_o his_o deep_a sense_n of_o his_o sin_n his_o humble_a confession_n of_o they_o his_o charity_n to_o the_o soul_n of_o his_o fellow_n thief_n and_o his_o strange_a and_o prodigious_a faith_n i_o say_v one_o will_v think_v these_o circumstance_n so_o wonderful_a and_o so_o extraordinary_a that_o they_o be_v sufficient_a of_o themselves_o to_o evidence_n the_o gospel_n by_o mighty_a sign_n and_o wonder_n do_v resolve_v to_o leave_v the_o succeed_a age_n of_o the_o church_n to_o the_o ordinary_a mean_n of_o grace_n how_o then_o can_v we_o expect_v at_o the_o hour_n of_o death_n to_o find_v such_o a_o wonderful_a faith_n wrought_v in_o those_o profligate_v wretch_n who_o have_v all_o their_o life_n time_n despise_a god_n minister_n quench_v all_o the_o motion_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n trample_v on_o the_o blood_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n and_o shameful_o abuse_v all_o the_o ordinary_a method_n and_o dispensation_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o as_o we_o can_v expect_v to_o find_v in_o the_o clinic_n of_o the_o age_n such_o a_o prodigious_a and_o extraordinary_a faith_n as_o be_v in_o this_o penitent_a thief_n so_o neither_o be_v it_o possible_a they_o shall_v be_v so_o well_o assure_v of_o the_o sincerity_n of_o their_o repentance_n as_o he_o be_v i_o be_o willing_a to_o be_v as_o charitable_a to_o these_o penitent_n as_o the_o salvation_n of_o their_o soul_n will_v allow_v i_o to_o be_v and_o therefore_o let_v we_o suppose_v such_o presumptuous_a sinner_n to_o be_v deep_o sensible_a of_o their_o sin_n and_o willing_a to_o this_o example_n of_o the_o text_n for_o my_o part_n i_o must_v declare_v that_o i_o think_v it_o impossible_a we_o may_v hope_v well_o in_o the_o judgement_n of_o charity_n but_o to_o give_v they_o any_o such_o assurance_n as_o this_o penitent_a thief_n be_v beyond_o the_o power_n and_o skill_n of_o the_o wise_a minister_n for_o the_o heart_n be_v deceitful_a above_o all_o thing_n and_o since_o minister_n be_v not_o omniscious_a as_o our_o saviour_n be_v they_o can_v pass_v a_o infallible_a judgement_n upon_o the_o sincerity_n of_o such_o a_o late_a repentance_n when_o esau_n have_v lose_v his_o birthright_n for_o a_o mess_n of_o pottage_n do_v not_o he_o shed_v as_o hearty_a and_o unfeigned_a tear_n as_o these_o suppose_a penitent_n can_v do_v and_o yet_o it_o be_v say_v find_v no_o place_n for_o repentance_n do_v not_o judas_n run_v to_o the_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n do_v he_o not_o confess_v public_o that_o he_o have_v betray_v the_o innocent_a blood_n nay_o do_v he_o not_o throw_v down_o the_o thirty_o piece_n of_o silver_n and_o sure_a if_o he_o have_v not_o be_v in_o earnest_n such_o a_o covetous_a wretch_n will_v never_o have_v part_v with_o his_o money_n and_o yet_o we_o know_v his_o repentance_n be_v not_o right_a alas_o the_o horror_n of_o conscience_n and_o the_o ghastly_a apparition_n of_o death_n will_v force_v man_n to_o do_v many_o thing_n which_o god_n will_v not_o accept_v of_o because_o they_o proceed_v from_o fear_n of_o punishment_n and_o not_o from_o the_o love_n of_o he_o nay_o let_v i_o add_v yet_o far_o that_o sad_a experience_n have_v set_v its_o seal_n to_o this_o observation_n that_o many_o such_o penitent_n who_o have_v make_v the_o most_o solemn_a protestation_n of_o better_a obedience_n in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o sickness_n when_o god_n have_v restore_v they_o in_o mercy_n to_o their_o former_a health_n they_o have_v with_o the_o dog_n return_v to_o their_o vomit_n and_o with_o the_o sow_n to_o their_o wallowing_n in_o the_o mire_n thus_o you_o see_v that_o repentance_n of_o the_o thief_n in_o the_o text_n be_v so_o remarkable_a so_o wonderful_a so_o extraordinary_a in_o all_o the_o part_n of_o it_o as_o will_v afford_v little_a solid_a comfort_n to_o repent_v sinner_n at_o the_o hour_n of_o death_n 4_o this_o repentance_n of_o the_o thief_n will_v be_v find_v yet_o far_a extraordinary_a and_o such_o as_o can_v afford_v little_a comfort_n to_o the_o clinic_n of_o the_o age_n if_o we_o consider_v those_o great_a and_o extraordinary_a temptation_n he_o have_v to_o grapple_v with_o christ_n be_v now_o in_o his_o worst_a estate_n in_o the_o very_o low_a degree_n of_o his_o humiliation_n there_o be_v no_o beauty_n no_o form_n no_o comeliness_n in_o he_o that_o he_o shall_v be_v desire_v the_o chief_a priest_n the_o scribes_z and_o the_o elder_n mock_v he_o all_o that_o pass_v by_o revile_v he_o wag_v their_o head_n of_o his_o own_o disciple_n some_o deny_v he_o and_o all_o of_o they_o shameful_o and_o most_o ungrateful_o forsake_v he_o this_o poor_a penitent_a thief_n be_v the_o only_a confessor_n he_o have_v and_o what_o inducement_n have_v he_o at_o this_o time_n to_o own_v he_o he_o can_v expect_v no_o worldly_a advantage_n all_o that_o he_o can_v promise_v himself_o be_v only_o this_o that_o as_o he_o be_v now_o crucify_a as_o a_o malefactor_n only_o so_o for_o such_o his_o confession_n his_o torment_n will_v have_v be_v enhance_v and_o he_o persecute_v as_o a_o martyr_n and_o can_v now_o the_o clinic_n of_o the_o age_n show_v we_o any_o such_o extraordinary_a repentance_n be_v christ_n now_o under_o the_o same_o circumstance_n of_o pain_n and_o ignominy_n that_o he_o be_v then_o do_v not_o all_o our_o creed_n tell_v we_o that_o he_o be_v now_o at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o god_n that_o he_o be_v make_v the_o head_n of_o all_o thing_n both_o in_o heaven_n and_o in_o earth_n and_o will_v it_o be_v any_o such_o heroic_a act_n of_o faith_n now_o to_o seek_v unto_o such_o a_o glorious_a and_o triumphant_a saviour_n sure_o there_o be_v a_o vast_a difference_n between_o the_o case_n of_o the_o thief_n and_o the_o case_n of_o the_o presumptuous_a sinner_n the_o thief_n have_v no_o inducement_n to_o fly_v to_o christ_n for_o succour_n and_o these_o have_v none_o to_o fly_v to_o but_o their_o saviour_n there_o be_v therefore_o but_o little_a solid_a comfort_n for_o such_o penitent_n in_o the_o example_n of_o the_o text._n 5_o the_o case_n of_o the_o thief_n will_v yet_o further_o be_v find_v extraordinary_a if_o we_o consider_v the_o time_n when_o he_o obtain_v mercy_n it_o be_v no_o ordinary_a time_n but_o a_o time_n when_o god_n be_v show_v a_o public_a act_n of_o grace_n and_o mercy_n to_o the_o world_n god_n at_o this_o time_n be_v give_v his_o own_o son_n out_o of_o great_a love_n to_o mankind_n and_o therefore_o it_o may_v seem_v proper_a and_o well_o become_v so_o solemn_a a_o time_n that_o there_o shall_v be_v some_o monument_n of_o this_o infinite_a mercy_n it_o may_v possible_o deserve_v your_o serious_a observation_n that_o god_n almighty_n do_v always_o something_o extraordinary_a to_o grace_v the_o several_a of_o desperate_a wickedness_n to_o insult_v over_o such_o as_o be_v in_o misery_n it_o be_v no_o less_o than_o to_o defy_v almighty_a god_n who_o be_v the_o protector_n of_o such_o as_o be_v in_o misery_n and_o use_n to_o avenge_v their_o quarrel_n and_o therefore_o the_o other_o malefactor_n rebuke_n he_o ver_fw-la 40._o saying_n do_v not_o thou_o fear_v god_n especial_o since_o thou_o be_v in_o the_o same_o condemnation_n such_o as_o be_v in_o prosperity_n do_v ordinary_o forget_v god_n but_o in_o time_n of_o adversity_n most_o man_n will_v consider_v when_o they_o be_v approach_v their_o soul_n but_o this_o thief_n be_v so_o desperate_o wicked_a that_o even_o on_o the_o cross_n and_o when_o death_n be_v near_o at_o hand_n he_o despise_v god_n and_o revile_v our_o saviour_n but_o the_o other_o thief_n give_v ample_a demonstration_n of_o his_o sincere_a repentance_n and_o faith_n in_o the_o messiah_n for_o he_o do_v not_o only_o rebuke_v his_o fellow_n thief_n and_o endeavour_n his_o conversion_n but_o he_o also_o acknowledge_v his_o fault_n and_o patient_o submit_v to_o the_o punishment_n as_o a_o just_a reward_n of_o his_o evil_a deed_n ver_fw-la 41._o if_o such_o scandalous_a person_n that_o be_v among_o we_o will_v when_o they_o be_v upon_o their_o deathbed_n thus_o take_v shame_n to_o themselves_o by_o a_o free_a confession_n of_o their_o fault_n if_o they_o will_v send_v for_o such_o person_n who_o in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o health_n they_o have_v endeavour_v to_o debauch_v either_o by_o their_o example_n or_o counsel_n and_o acquaint_v they_o with_o the_o danger_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o bitterness_n they_o then_o find_v in_o it_o they_o will_v give_v the_o world_n much_o better_a demonstration_n of_o their_o sincere_a repentance_n and_o much_o sure_a ground_n to_o hope_v their_o eternal_a welfare_n and_o as_o this_o poor_a thief_n give_v such_o ample_a demonstration_n of_o his_o sincere_a repentance_n so_o he_o give_v also_o very_o good_a proof_n of_o a_o true_a and_o steadfast_a faith_n in_o christ_n for_o ver_fw-la 42._o he_o say_v unto_o christ_n jesus_n lord_n remember_v i_o when_o thou_o come_v into_o thy_o kingdom_n you_o time_n of_o their_o sickness_n how_o seldom_o do_v they_o give_v such_o ample_a demonstration_n of_o their_o faith_n humility_n and_o sincere_a repentance_n now_o what_o answer_n do_v christ_n return_v to_o this_o honest_a thief_n the_o text_n will_v give_v you_o a_o fair_a account_n of_o this_o then_o say_v jesus_n unto_o he_o very_o i_o say_v unto_o thou_o to_o day_n shall_v thou_o be_v that_o he_o have_v rather_o be_v in_o hell_n with_o god_n presence_n than_o in_o heaven_n without_o it_o and_o if_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n be_v thus_o able_a to_o convert_v even_o hell_n itself_o into_o heaven_n the_o enjoyment_n of_o this_o will_v certain_o make_v heaven_n become_v what_o it_o be_v style_v in_o scripture_n a_o heaven_n of_o heaven_n this_o therefore_o be_v the_o flower_n of_o joy_n the_o quintessence_n of_o comfort_n the_o crown_n of_o blessedness_n and_o the_o very_a soul_n of_o heaven_n for_o whilst_o we_o enjoy_v god_n we_o must_v needs_o enjoy_v all_o thing_n all_o that_o be_v good_a do_v at_o first_o flow_v from_o he_o and_o therefore_o be_v more_o eminent_o to_o be_v find_v in_o he_o as_o in_o its_o fountain_n and_o original_a all_o that_o can_v delight_v our_o soul_n or_o ravish_v our_o heart_n all_o that_o be_v lovely_a and_o desirable_a be_v here_o to_o be_v find_v in_o their_o great_a perfection_n well_o than_o may_v the_o psalmist_n say_v psal._n 16._o 11._o in_o thy_o presence_n there_o be_v fullness_n of_o joy_n and_o at_o thy_o right_a hand_n there_o be_v pleasure_n for_o evermore_o but_o because_o so_o copious_a so_o pleasant_a and_o so_o edify_v a_o subject_a do_v deserve_v better_a than_o to_o be_v light_o touch_v in_o the_o close_a of_o a_o sermon_n i_o shall_v reserve_v the_o full_a handle_n of_o it_o till_o the_o next_o a_o place_n of_o joy_n and_o bliss_n and_o to_o be_v with_o christ_n be_v to_o be_v in_o a_o state_n of_o happiness_n now_o in_o such_o a_o place_n and_o in_o such_o a_o state_n be_v this_o honest_a thief_n to_o be_v that_o very_a day_n i_o name_v several_a text_n for_o the_o clear_n of_o this_o truth_n but_o i_o shall_v only_o name_v one_o of_o they_o at_o this_o time_n which_o you_o will_v a_o good_a conscience_n and_o of_o do_v good_a to_o other_o rather_o than_o to_o be_v in_o a_o constant_a sleep_n or_o in_o a_o senseless_a state_n of_o stupidity_n and_o inactivity_n from_o these_o place_n of_o scripture_n it_o be_v most_o plain_a that_o the_o soul_n of_o good_a man_n do_v not_o sleep_v after_o death_n but_o be_v immediate_o receive_v into_o bliss_n as_o lazarus_n be_v into_o abraham_n bosom_n and_o this_o honest_a thief_n in_o the_o text_n into_o paradise_n second_o this_o happiness_n of_o the_o godly_a be_v exceed_v great_a for_o they_o be_v say_v one_a to_o be_v with_o at_o the_o last_o day_n the_o first_o of_o these_o he_o perform_v here_o on_o earth_n the_o second_o he_o be_v still_o perform_v in_o heaven_n and_o the_o three_o he_o will_v perform_v in_o the_o air_n when_o he_o shall_v come_v in_o the_o cloud_n of_o heaven_n with_o power_n and_o great_a glory_n we_o know_v he_o satisfy_v infinite_a justice_n when_o he_o offer_v up_o himself_o a_o propitiatory_a sacrifice_n on_o the_o cross_n and_o he_o be_v still_o intercede_v in_o heaven_n at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o god_n as_o he_o purchase_v salvation_n for_o sinner_n by_o die_v for_o capacity_n to_o save_v the_o penitent_a so_o god_n have_v appoint_v the_o same_o son_n of_o man_n to_o judge_v the_o world_n that_o he_o may_v be_v able_a to_o punish_v the_o impenitent_a such_o as_o before_o will_v not_o accept_v he_o for_o a_o saviour_n will_v now_o be_v force_v to_o admit_v he_o as_o a_o judge_n hence_o we_o be_v tell_v act._n 17._o 31._o that_o god_n have_v appoint_v a_o day_n in_o which_o he_o will_v judge_v the_o world_n in_o righteousness_n by_o that_o man_n who_o he_o have_v

christ_n be_v call_v the_o son_n of_o man._n second_o what_o be_v here_o mean_v by_o the_o sign_n of_o the_o son_n of_o man._n three_o that_o this_o son_n of_o man_n will_v come_v to_o judge_v the_o world_n four_o that_o he_o will_v come_v with_o great_a power_n and_o glory_n five_o that_o all_o the_o wicked_a of_o the_o earth_n will_v then_o have_v just_a cause_n to_o mourn_v first_o let_v we_o brief_o inquire_v why_o christ_n be_v call_v the_o son_n of_o man._n some_o learned_a man_n observe_v that_o he_o be_v call_v so_o in_o the_o scripture_n more_o than_o forty_o time_n and_o there_o be_v two_o reason_n of_o the_o name_n one_a he_o be_v call_v the_o son_n of_o man_n in_o token_n of_o his_o humanity_n christ_n our_o bless_a mediator_n be_v both_o god_n and_o man_n and_o therefore_o as_o he_o be_v often_o call_v the_o son_n of_o god_n to_o denote_v his_o divinity_n so_o he_o be_v as_o often_o call_v the_o son_n of_o man_n to_o denote_v his_o humanity_n 2_o he_o be_v call_v the_o son_n of_o man_n to_o denote_v that_o state_n of_o humiliation_n to_o which_o he_o condescend_v for_o our_o sake_n it_o be_v usual_a for_o the_o jew_n to_o style_v prince_n and_o potentate_n 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d son_n of_o strong_a man_n but_o such_o as_o be_v poor_a they_o style_v beni-adam_n son_n of_o men._n christ_n therefore_o aspire_v to_o no_o high_a title_n than_o that_o of_o son_n of_o man_n he_o be_v please_v to_o humble_v himself_o for_o we_o he_o as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v become_v poor_a that_o we_o may_v become_v rich_a bear_v he_o be_v of_o the_o poor_a parent_n such_o as_o neither_o have_v a_o house_n of_o their_o own_o to_o lay_v he_o in_o when_o he_o be_v bear_v nor_o able_a to_o procure_v any_o place_n beside_o a_o stable_a for_o his_o reception_n into_o this_o world_n and_o as_o he_o be_v bear_v in_o this_o poor_a condition_n so_o though_o the_o bird_n of_o the_o air_n have_v nest_n as_o he_o speak_v yet_o whilst_o he_o live_v he_o have_v not_o of_o his_o own_o where_o to_o lay_v his_o head_n nay_o further_a yet_o when_o he_o come_v to_o die_v we_o know_v he_o be_v behold_v to_o the_o charity_n of_o joseph_n of_o arimathea_n for_o a_o room_n in_o his_o sepulchre_n no_o wonder_n then_o if_o christ_n be_v ambitious_a of_o no_o more_o honourable_a title_n than_o this_o of_o son_n of_o man_n since_o he_o make_v himself_o so_o vile_a so_o mean_v so_o contemptible_a for_o our_o sake_n thus_o i_o have_v brief_o show_v why_o christ_n be_v call_v so_o often_o the_o son_n of_o man_n it_o denote_v the_o truth_n of_o his_o humanity_n as_o also_o that_o state_n of_o humiliation_n to_o which_o he_o condescend_v for_o our_o sake_n i_o come_v now_o in_o the_o second_o place_n to_o inquire_v second_o what_o be_v here_o mean_v by_o the_o sign_n of_o the_o son_n of_o man._n it_o will_v spend_v too_o much_o of_o our_o time_n to_o mention_v all_o those_o conjecture_n which_o learned_a man_n have_v make_v concern_v this_o sign_n since_o it_o be_v a_o matter_n we_o may_v be_v safe_o ignorant_a of_o i_o shall_v only_o set_v down_o two_o of_o the_o best_a interpretaion_n i_o have_v meet_v with_o one_a very_o many_o learned_a man_n both_o ancient_a and_o modern_a do_v by_o the_o sign_n of_o the_o son_n of_o man_n understand_v the_o cross._n st._n jerom_n st._n chrysostom_n and_o venerable_a bede_n upon_o this_o place_n affirm_v this_o sign_n to_o be_v no_o other_o than_o that_o of_o the_o cross._n the_o ethiopian_a church_n be_v so_o peremptory_a in_o this_o matter_n that_o it_o be_v put_v into_o the_o article_n of_o their_o creed_n as_o the_o learned_a gregory_n inform_v we_o there_o be_v hardly_o any_o thing_n the_o ancient_a father_n be_v more_o unanimous_a in_o than_o this_o and_o to_o say_v the_o truth_n there_o be_v some_o tolerable_a reason_n for_o this_o ancient_a opinion_n for_o what_o can_v be_v more_o honourable_a to_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n or_o more_o full_a of_o terror_n to_o his_o enemy_n than_o that_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n which_o they_o count_v foolishness_n and_o more_o than_o so_o esteem_v the_o great_a reproach_n of_o the_o christian_a faith_n shall_v at_o that_o day_n be_v make_v the_o herald_n to_o proclaim_v his_o come_v and_o call_v all_o nation_n of_o the_o world_n to_o appear_v before_o he_o but_o though_o this_o interpretation_n be_v back_v both_o with_o reason_n and_o great_a authority_n yet_o 2_o there_o be_v another_o interpretation_n that_o seem_v as_o plausible_a if_o not_o more_o plausible_a than_o it_o for_o the_o learned_a vossius_fw-la mede_n twisse_n millet_n and_o several_a other_o do_v understand_v by_o the_o sign_n of_o the_o son_n of_o man_n who_o be_v a_o sign_n this_o kind_n of_o dialect_n this_o manner_n of_o speak_v be_v frequent_a in_o the_o scripture_n thus_o the_o law_n of_o faith_n be_v all_o one_o with_o faith_n that_o be_v a_o law_n the_o law_n of_o sin_n that_o be_v sin_n itself_o which_o dwell_v in_o unregenerate_a person_n reign_v as_o it_o be_v by_o law_n so_o the_o sign_n of_o the_o son_n of_o man_n that_o be_v the_o son_n of_o man_n who_o be_v a_o sign_n and_o that_o which_o give_v the_o great_a authority_n to_o this_o opinion_n be_v that_o st._n luke_n in_o the_o parallel_n place_n interpret_v it_o so_o chap._n 21._o 27._o where_o the_o word_n sign_n be_v leave_v out_o and_o the_o verse_n run_v thus_o then_o shall_v they_o see_v the_o son_n of_o man_n come_v in_o a_o cloud_n with_o power_n and_o great_a glory_n and_o st._n mark_n render_v the_o word_n the_o same_o way_n chap._n 13._o 26._o if_o therefore_o st._n mark_n and_o st._n luke_n may_v be_v allow_v to_o be_v as_o good_a interpreter_n of_o st._n matthew_n as_o any_o other_o by_o the_o sign_n of_o the_o son_n of_o man_n we_o may_v understand_v the_o son_n of_o man_n himself_o who_o glorious_a appearance_n in_o the_o cloud_n will_v be_v a_o certain_a infallible_a sign_n that_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n be_v come_v thus_o i_o have_v show_v you_o what_o conjecture_n learned_a man_n have_v make_v concern_v this_o sign_n of_o the_o son_n of_o man_n some_o understand_v the_o cross_n other_o christ_n himself_o who_o glorious_a appearance_n will_v be_v a_o certain_a sign_n of_o the_o approach_a judgement_n i_o come_v now_o in_o the_o three_o place_n to_o show_v you_o three_o that_o this_o son_n of_o man_n will_v come_v to_o judge_v the_o world_n none_o but_o that_o god_n who_o make_v we_o have_v any_o right_a to_o judge_v we_o as_o we_o have_v receive_v all_o thing_n from_o he_o so_o as_o steward_n must_v we_o render_v a_o account_n of_o all_o thing_n to_o he_o indeed_o this_o judgement_n belong_v original_o to_o the_o whole_a trinity_n but_o the_o outward_a administration_n of_o it_o shall_v be_v commit_v to_o of_o the_o last_o day_n be_v commit_v to_o the_o son_n of_o man_n and_o indeed_o it_o be_v commit_v to_o he_o because_o he_o be_v the_o son_n of_o man_n our_o saviour_n tell_v we_o so_o express_o john_n 5._o 20_o 27._o as_o the_o father_n have_v life_n in_o himself_o so_o have_v he_o give_v unto_o the_o son_n to_o have_v life_n in_o himself_o and_o have_v give_v he_o authority_n to_o execute_v judgement_n also_o because_o he_o be_v the_o son_n of_o man._n you_o see_v the_o son_n of_o man_n will_v come_v as_o
judge_n at_o the_o last_o day_n and_o he_o come_v because_o he_o be_v the_o son_n of_o man._n it_o will_v not_o be_v amiss_o to_o inquire_v brief_o into_o the_o reason_n of_o it_o one_a god_n have_v be_v repeat_v again_o chap._n 26._o 64._o where_o christ_n tell_v his_o enemy_n that_o hereafter_o they_o shall_v see_v the_o son_n of_o man_n sit_v on_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o power_n and_o come_v sake_n to_o stand_v before_o the_o tribunal_n of_o wicked_a man_n and_o receive_v the_o sentence_n of_o condemnation_n to_o this_o purpose_n be_v those_o expression_n of_o st._n paul_n phil._n 2._o eternity_n four_o god_n have_v commit_v the_o judgement_n of_o the_o last_o day_n to_o the_o son_n of_o man_n for_o the_o great_a terror_n and_o confusion_n of_o the_o wicked_a the_o angel_n who_o be_v present_a at_o our_o saviour_n ascension_n tell_v his_o disciple_n act._n 1._o 11._o that_o the_o same_o jesus_n who_o then_o ascend_v into_o heaven_n shall_v descend_v in_o like_a manner_n as_o he_o then_o ascend_v up_o into_o haeven_n now_o we_o know_v our_o saviour_n when_o he_o ascend_v into_o heaven_n carry_v along_o with_o he_o the_o print_n of_o the_o spear_n and_o all_o those_o scar_n poverty_n and_o grief_n and_o such_o other_o humble_a circumstance_n as_o be_v proper_a for_o his_o state_n of_o humiliation_n yet_o his_o second_o come_v will_v be_v splendid_a and_o glorious_a as_o will_v appear_v from_o these_o follow_a particular_n one_a let_v we_o consider_v the_o immediate_a forerunner_n and_o harbinger_n of_o our_o saviour_n second_o come_n king_n and_o prince_n have_v their_o harbinger_n and_o so_o have_v this_o king_n of_o king_n too_o sy_n jerome_n tell_v we_o of_o a_o ancient_a tradition_n of_o the_o jewish_a doctor_n namely_o that_o for_o fifteen_o day_n together_o before_o the_o great_a day_n of_o judgement_n there_o shall_v be_v transact_v upon_o the_o stage_n of_o nature_n a_o continue_a scene_n of_o fearful_a sign_n and_o wonder_n the_o sea_n shall_v lift_v up_o his_o mountainous_a billow_n and_o make_v a_o fearful_a noise_n with_o its_o roll_a wave_n the_o heaven_n shall_v crack_v night_n and_o day_n with_o loud_a and_o roar_a thunder_n of_o the_o price_n that_o be_v pay_v for_o it_o the_o worth_n and_o excellency_n of_o a_o thing_n be_v usual_o measure_v by_o the_o greatness_n of_o its_o price_n now_o how_o great_a be_v that_o price_n which_o be_v pay_v for_o this_o salvation_n st._n peter_n tell_v we_o we_o be_v not_o redeem_v with_o such_o corruptible_a thing_n as_o silver_n and_o gold_n but_o with_o the_o precious_a blood_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n have_v we_o offer_v a_o thousand_o ram_n and_o ten_o thousand_o river_n of_o oil_n have_v we_o give_v the_o fruit_n of_o our_o body_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o our_o soul_n yea_o have_v it_o be_v possible_a for_o we_o to_o have_v sacrifice_v whole_a hecatomb_n of_o angel_n to_o the_o justice_n of_o heaven_n they_o will_v not_o all_o have_v be_v sufficient_a to_o
