burnt-offering or sacrifice or oblation or incense or place to sacrifice before thee and to finde mercy 16 Nevertheless in a contrite heart and an humble spirit let us be accepted 17 Like as in the burnt-offerings of rams and bullocks and like as in ten thousands of fat lambs so let our sacrifice be in thy sight this day and grant that we may wholly go after thee for they shall not be confounded Baal-peor for all the men that followed Baal-peor the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you 4 But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day 5 Behold I have taught you statutes and judgements even as the LORD my God commanded me that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it 6 Keep therefore and do them for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations which shall hear all these statutes and say Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people 7 For what nation is there so great who hath God so nigh unto them as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for 8 And what nation is there so great that hath statutes and judgements so righteous as all this law which I set before you this day 9 Onely take heed to thy self and keep thy soul diligently lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life but teach them thy sons and thy sons sons 10 Specially the day that thou stoodst before the LORD thy God in Horeb when the LORD said unto me Gather me the people together and I will make them hear my words that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth and that they may teach their children 11 And ye came near and stood under the mountain and the * Ex. 19.18 mountain burnt with fire unto the †Heb. heart midst of heaven with darkness clouds and thick darkness 12 And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire ye heard the voice of the words but saw no similitude †Heb. save a voice onely ye heard a voice 13 And he declared unto you his covenant which he commanded you to perform even ten commandments and he wrote them upon two tables of stone 14 ¶ And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgements that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it 15 Take ye therefore good heed unto your selves for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire 16 Lest ye corrupt your selves and make you a graven image the similitude of any figure the likeness of male or female 17 The likeness of any beast that is on the earth the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air 18 The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth 19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven and when thou seest the sun and the moon and the stars even all the host of heaven shouldest be driven to worship them and serve them which the LORD thy God hath ‖ Or â—mparted divided unto all nations under the whole heaven 20 But the LORD hath taken you and brought you forth out of the iron furnace even out of Egypt to be unto him a people of inheritance as ye are this day 21 Furthermore the LORD was angry with me for your sakes and sware that I should not go over Jordan and that I should not go in unto that good land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance 22 But I must die in this land I must not go over Jordan but ye shall go over and possess that good land 23 Take heed unto your selves lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God which he made with you and make you a graven image or the likeness of any thing which the LORD thy God hath forhidden thee 24 For * Ch. 9.3 Heb. 12.29 the LORD thy God is a consuming fire even a jealous God 25 ¶ When thou shalt beget children and childrens children and shalt have remained long in the land and shall corrupt your selves and make a graven image or the likeness of any thing and shall do evil in the sight of the LORD thy God to provoke him to anger 26 I call heaven

III. 1 Gods judgements against the enemies of his people 9 God will be known in his judgement 18 His blessing upon the church FOr behold in those days and in that time when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem 2 I will also gather all nations and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel whom they have scattered among the nations and parted my land 3 And they have cast lots for my people and have given a boy for a harlot and sold a girl for wine that they might drink 4 Yea and what have ye to do with me O Tyre and Zidon and all the coasts of Palestine will ye render me a recompence and if ye recompense me swiftly and speedily will I return your recompence upon your own head 5 Because ye have taken my silver and my gold and have carried into your temples my goodly †Heb. desirable pleasant things 6 The children also of Judah and the children of Jerusalem have ye sold unto †Heb. the sins of the Grecians the Grecians that ye might remove them far from their border 7 Behold I will raise them out of the place whither ye have sold them and will return your recompence upon your own head 8 And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah and they shall sell them to the Sabeans to a people far off for the LORD hath spoken it 9 ¶ Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles †Heb. sanctifie prepare war wake up the mighty men let all the men of war draw near let them come up 10 * Isa 2.4 Beat your plow-shares into swords and your ‖ Or sithes pruning-hooks into spears let the weak say I am strong 11 Assemble your selves and come all ye heathen and gather your selves together round about thither ‖ Or the LORD shall bring down cause thy mighty ones to come down O LORD 12 Let the heathen be wakened and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about 13 * Rev. 14.15 Put ye in the sickle for the harvest is ripe come get you down for the press is full the sats overflow for their wickedness is great 14 Multitudes multitudes in the valley of ‖ Or concision or threshing decision for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision 15 The * Ch. 2.31 sun and the moon shall be darkned and the stars shall withdraw their shining 16 The LORD also shall * Jer. 25.30 Amos 1.2 roar out of Zion and utter his voice from Jerusalem and the heavens and earth shall shake but the LORD will be the †Heb. place of repair or harbour hope of his people and the strength of the children of Israel 17 So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion my holy mountain then shall Jerusalem be †Heb. holiness holy and there shall no * Rev. 23.27 strangers pass through her any more 18 ¶ And it shall come to pass in that day that the mountains shall * Amos 9.13 drop down new wine and the hills shall flow with milk and all the rivers of Judah shall †Heb. go flow with waters and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD and shall water the valley of Shittim 19 Egypt shall be a desolation and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness for the violence against the children of Judah because they have shed innocent bloud in their land 20 But Judah shall ‖ Or abide dwell for ever and Jerusalem from generation to generation 21 For I will cleanse their bloud that I have not cleansed ‖ Or even I the LORD that dwelleth in Zion for the LORD dwelleth in Zion ¶ AMOS CHAP. I. 1 Amos sheweth Gods judgement upon Syria 6 upon the Philistines 9 upon Tyrus 11 upon Edom 13 upon Ammon THe words of Amos who was among the herdmen of Tekoa which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel two year before the * Zec 14.5 earthquake 2 And he said the LORD will * Jer. 25.30 Joel 3.16 roar from Zion and utter his voice from Jerusalem and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn and the top of Carmel shall wither 3 Thus saith the LORD For three transgressions of Damascus ‖ Or yea for four and for four I will not ‖ Or â—oâ—vâ—rt it or let it he quiet and to verse 6. c. turn away the punishment thereof because they have threshed Gilead with threshing-instruments of iron 4 But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael which shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad 5 I will break also the bar of Damascus and cut off the inhabitant from ‖ Or Bikath-aven the plain of Aven and him that holdeth the sceptre from ‖ Or Betheden the house of Eden and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir saith the LORD 6 ¶ Thus saith the LORD For three transgressions of * 2
with you saith the LORD of hosts 5 According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt so my spirit remaineth among you fear ye not 6 For thus saith the LORD of hosts * Heb. 12 26. Yet once it is a little while and I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land 7 And I will shake all nations and the desire of all nations shall come and I will fill this house with glory saith the LORD of hosts 8 The silver is mine and the gold is mine saith the LORD of hosts 9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater then of the former saith the LORD of hosts and in this place will I give peace saith the LORD of hosts 10 ¶ In the four and twentieth day of the ninth moneth in the second year of Darius came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet saying 11 Thus saith the LORD of hosts Ask now the priests concerning the law saying 12 It one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment and with his skirt do touch bread or pottage or wine or oyl or any meat shall it be holy And the priests answered and said No. 13 Then said Haggai Is one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these shall it be unclean And the priests answered and said It shall be unclean 14 Then answered Haggai and said So is this people and so is this nation before me saith the LORD and so is every work of their hands and that which they offer there is unclean 15 And now I pray you consider from this day and upward from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD 16 Since those days were when one came to an heap of twenty measures there were but ten when one came to the press-fat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press there were but twenty 17 ¶ I smote you * Am. 4.9 with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands yet ye turned not to me saith the LORD 18 Consider now from this day and upward from the four and twentieth day of the ninth moneth even from the day that the foundation of the LORDs temple was laid consider it 19 Is the seed yet in the barn yea as yet the vine and the fig-tree and the pomegranate and the olive-tree hath not brought forth from this day will I bless you 20 ¶ And again the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the moneth saying 21 Speak to Zerubbabel governour of Judah saying I will shake the heavens and the earth 22 And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen and I will overthrow the chariots and those that ride in them and the horses and their riders shall come down every one by the sword of his brother 23 In that day saith the LORD of hosts will I take thee O Zerubbabel my servant the son of Shealtiel saith the LORD and will make thee as a signet for I have chosen thee saith the LORD of hosts ¶ ZECHARIAH CHAP. I. 1 Zechariah exhorteth to repentance 7 The vision of the horses 12 At the prayer of the angel comfortable promises are made to Jerusalem 18 The vision of the four horns and the four carpenters IN the eighth moneth in the second year of Darius came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah the son of Barachiah the son of Iddo the prophet saying 2 The LORD hath been †Heb. with displeasure sore displeased with your fathers 3 Therefore say thou unto them Thus saith the LORD of hosts * Mal. 3.7 Turn ye unto me saith the LORD of hosts and I will turn unto you saith the LORD of hosts 4 Be ye not as your fathers unto whom the former prophets have cried saying Thus saith the LORD of hosts * Is 31.6 Jer. 3.12 18.11 Ezek. 18.30 Hos 14 1◠Turn ye now from your evil ways and from your evil doings but they did not hear nor hearken unto me saith the LORD 5 Your fathers where are they and the prophets do they live for ever 6 But my words and my statutes which I commanded my servants the prophets did they not ‖ Or overtake take hold of your fathers and they returned and said * L◠1.18 Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us according to our ways and according to our doings so hath he dealt with us 7 ¶ Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh moneth which is the moneth Sebat in the second year of Darius came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah the son of Barachiah the son of Iddo the prophet saying 8 I saw by night and behold a man riding upon a red horse and he stood among the myrtle-trees that were in the bottom and behinde him were there red horses ‖ Or hay speckled and white 9 Then said I O my Lord what are these And the angel that talked with me said unto me I will shew thee what these be 10 And the man that stood among the myrtle-trees answered and said These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth 11 And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle-trees and said We have walked to and fro through the earth and behold all the earth sitteth still and is at rest 12 ¶ Then the angel of the LORD answered and said O LORD of hosts how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years 13 And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words 14 So the angel that communed with me said unto me Cry thou saying Thus saith the LORD of hosts I am * Ch. 8.2 jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousie 15 And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at case for I was but a little displeased and they helped forward the affliction 16 Therefore thus saith the LORD I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies my house shall be built in it saith the LORD of hosts and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem 17 Cry yet saying Thus saith the LORD of hosts My cities through †Hēb good prosperity shall yet be spread abroad and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion and shall yet choose Jerusalem 18 ¶ Then lift I up mine eyes and saw and behold four horns 19 And I said unto the angel that talked with me What be these And he answered me These are the horns which have scattered Judah Israel and Jerusalem 20 And the LORD shewed me four carpenters 21 Then said I What come these to do And he spake saying These are the horns which have scattered Judah
But she said Hold thy peace and deceive me not my son is dead and she want out every day into the way which they went and did eat no meat on the day-time and ceased not whole nights to bewail her son Tobias until the fourteen days of the wedding were expired which Raguel had sworn that he should spend there Then Tobias said to Raguel Let me go for my father and my mother look no more to see me 8 But his father in law said unto him Tarry with me and I will send to thy father and they shall declare unto him how things go with thee 9 But Tobias said No but let me go to my father 10 Then Raguel arose and gave him Sara his wife and half his goods servants and cattel and money 11 And he blessed them and sent them away saying The God of heaven give you a prosperous journey my children 12 And he said to his daughter Honour thy father and thy mother in law which are now thy parents that I may hear good report of thee and he kissed her Edna also said to Tobias The Lord of heaven restore thee my dear brother and grant that I may see thy children of my daughter Sara before I die that I may rejoyce before the Lord behold I commit my daughter unto thee ‖ Or to be safely â—â—pt of special trust wherefore do not entreat her evil CHAP. XI 6 Tobias mother spieth her son coming 10 His father meeteth him at the door and recovereth his sight 14 He praiseth God 17 and welcometh his daughter in law AFter these things Tobias went his way praising God that he had given him a prosperous journey and blessed Raguel and Edna his wife and went on his way till they drew near unto Nineve 2 Then Raphael said to Tobias Thou knowest brother how thou didst leave thy father 3 Let us haste before thy wife and prepare the house 4 And take in thine hand the gall of the fish So they went their way and the dog went after them 5 Now Anna sat looking about towards the way for her son 6 And when she espied him coming she said to his father Behold thy son cometh and the man that went with him 7 Then said Raphael I know Tobias that thy father will open his eyes 8 Therefore anoint thou his eyes with the gall and being pricked therewith he shall rub and the whiteness shall fall away and he shall see thee 9 Then Anna ran forth and fell upon the neck of her son and said unto him Seeing I have seen thee my son from henceforth I am content to die and they wept both 10 Tobit also went forth toward the door and stumbled but his son ran unto him 11 And took hold of his father and he strake of the gall on his fathers eyes saying Be of good hope my father 12 And when his eyes began to smart he rubbed them 13 And the whiteness pilled away from the corners of his eyes and when he saw his son he fell upon his neck 14 And he wept and said Blessed art thou O God and blessed is thy name for ever and blessed are all thine holy angels 15 For thou hast scourged and hast taken pity on me for behold I see my son Tobias And his son went in rejoycing and told his father the great things that had hapned to him in Media 16 Then Tobit went out to meet his daughter in law at the gate of Nineve rejoycing and praising God and they which saw him go marvelled because he had received his sight 17 But Tobit gave thanks before them because God had mercy on him And when he came near to Sara his daughter in law he blessed her saying Thou art welcome daughter God be blessed which hath brought thee unto us and blessed be thy father and thy mother And there was joy amongst all his brethren which were at Nineve 18 And Achiacharus ‖ Junius who is also called Nasbas and Nasbas his brothers son came 19 And Tobias wedding was kept seven days with great joy CHAP. XII 5 Tobit offereth half to the angel for his pains 6 But he calleth them both aside and exhorteth them 15 and telleth them that he was an angel 21 and was seen no more THen Tobit called his son Tobias and said unto him My son see that the man have his wages which went with thee and thou must give him more 2 And Tobias said unto him O Father it is no harm to me to give him half of those things which I have brought 3 For he hath brought me again to thee in safety and made whole my wife and brought me the money and likewise healed thee 4 Then the old man said It is due unto him 5 So he called the angel and he said unto him Take half of all that ye have brought and go away in safety 6 Then he took them both apart and said unto them Bless God praise him and magnify him and praise him for the things which he hath done unto you in the sight of all that live It is good to praise God and exalt his name and ‖ Or with honour honourably to shew forth the works of God therefore be not slack to praise him 7 It is good to keep close the secrets of a king but it is honourable to reveal the works of God do that which is good and no evil shall touch you 8 Prayer is good with fasting and alms and righteousness a little with righteousness is better then much with unrighteousness it is better to give alms then to lay up gold 9 For alms doth deliver from death and shall purge away all sin Those that exercise alms and righteousness shall be filled with life 10 But they that sin are enemies to their own life 11 Surely I will keep close nothing from you For I said it was good to keep close the secrets of a king but that it was honourable to reveal the works of God 12 Now therefore when thou didst pray and Sara thy daughter in law I did bring the remembrance of your prayers before the holy One and when thou didst bury the dead I was with thee likewise 13 And when thou didst not delay to rise up and leave thy dinner †Gr. to go and bury to go and cover the dead thy good deed was not hid from me but I was with thee 14 And now God hath sent me to heal thee and Sara thy daughter in law 15 I am Raphael one of the seven holy angels which present the prayers of the saints and which go in and out before the glory of the holy One 16 Then they were both troubled and fell upon their faces for they feared 17 But he said unto them Fear not for it shall go well with you praise God therefore 18 For not of any favour of mine but by the will of our God I came wherefore praise him for ever 19 * Gen. 18.8 19.3 Judges 13.16 All
the army of Assur and behold the canopy wherein he did lie in his drunkenness and the Lord hath smitten him by the hand of a woman 16 As the Lord liveth who hath kept me in my way that I went my countenance hath deceived him to his destruction and yet hath he not committed sin with me to defile and shame me 17 Then all the people were wonderfully astonished and bowed themselves and worshipped God and said with one accord Blessed be thou O our God which hast this day brought to nought the enemies of thy people 18 Then said Ozias unto her O daughter blessed art thou of the most high God above all the women upon the earth and blessed be the Lord God which hath created the heavens and the earth which hath directed thee to the cutting off of the head of the chief of our enemies 19 For this thy confidence shall not depart from the heart of men which remember the power of God for ever 20 And God turn these things to thee for a perpetual praise to visit thee in good things because thou hast not spared thy life for the affliction of our nation but hast revenged our ruine walking a straight way before our God And all the people said So be it so be it CHAP. XIV 8 Achior heareth Judith shew what she had done and is cirâ—umcised 11 The bead of Holofernes is hanged up 15 He as found dead and much lamented THen said Judith unto them Hear me now my brethren and take this * 2 Mac. 15.35 head and hang it upon the highest place of your walls 2 And so soon as the morning shall appear and the sun shall come forth upon the earth take you every one his weapons and go forth every valiant man out of the city and set you a captain over them as though you would go down into the field toward the watch of the Assyrians but go not down 3 Then they shall take their armour and shall go into their camp and raise up the captains of the army of Assur and they shall run to the tent of Holofernes but shall not finde him then fear shall fall upon them and they shall flee before your face 4 So you and all that inhabit the coast of Israel shall pursue them and overthrow them as they go 5 But before you do these things call me Achior the Ammonite that he may see and know him that despised the house of Israel and that sent him to us as it were to his death 6 Then they called Achior out of the house of Ozias and when he was come and saw the head of Holofernes in a mans hand in the assembly of the people he fell down on his face and his spirit failed 7 But when they had recovered him he fell at Judiths feet and reverenced heâ— and said Blessed art thou in all the tabernacle of Juda and in all nations which hearing thy name shall be astonished 8 Now therefore tell me all the things that then hast done in these days Then Judith declared unto him in the midst of the people all that she had done from the day that she went forth until that hour she spake unto them 9 And when she had left off speaking the people shouted with a loud voice and made a joyful noise in their city 10 And when Achior had seen all that the God of Israel had done he beleeved in God greatly and circumcised the flesh of his fore-skin and was joyned unto the house of Israel unto this day 11 And assoon as the morning arose they hanged the head of Holofernes upon the wall and every man took his weapons and they went forth by bands unto the ‖ Or â—sâ—â—es straits of the mountain 12 But when the Assyrians saw them they sent to their leaders which came to their captains and tribunes and to every one of their rulers 13 So they came to Holofernes tent and said to him that had the charge of all his things Waken now our lord for the slaves have been bold to come down against us to battel that they may be utterly destroyed 14 Then went in Bagoas and knocked at the door of the tent for he thought that he had slept with Judith 15 But because none answered he opened it and went into the bed-chamber and found him cast upon the floor dead and his head was taken from him 16 ‖ Then Therefore he cried with a loud voice with weeping and sighing and a mighty cry and rent his garments 17 After he went into the tent where Judith lodged and when he found her not he leaped out to the people and cried 18 These slaves have dealt treacherously one woman of the Hebrews hath brought shame upon the house of king Nabuchodonolor for behold Holofernes lieth upon the ground without a head 19 When the captains of the Assyrians army heard these words they rent their coats and their minds were wonderfully troubled and there was a cry and a very great noise throughout the camp CHAP. XV. 1 The Assyrians are chased and slain 8 The high priest cometh to see Judith 11 The stuff of Holofernes is given to Judith 13 The women crown her with a garland ANd when they that were in the tents heard they were astonished at the thing that was done 2 And fear and trembling fell upon them so that there was no man that durst abide in the sight of his neighbour but rushing out altogether they fled into every way of the plain and of the hill-countrey 3 They also that had camped in the mountains round about Bethulia fled away Then the children of Israel every one that was a warriour among them rushed out upon them 4 Then sent Oziaâ— to Betomasthem and to Bebai and Chobai and Cola and to all the coasts of Israel such as should tell the things that were done and that all should rush forth upon their enemies to destroy them 5 Now when the children of Israel heard it they all fell upon them with one consent and slew them unto Chobai likewise also they that came from Jerusalem and from all the hill-countrey for men had told them what things were done in the camp of their enemies and they that were in Galaad and in Galilee ‖ Or â—â—â—ams chased them with a great slaughter until they were past Damascus and the borders thereof 6 And the residue that dwelt at Bethulia fell upon the camp of Assur and spoiled them and were greatly enriched 7 And the children of Israel that returned from the slaughter had that which remained and the villages and the cities that were in the mountains and in the plain gat many spoils for the multitude was very great 8 Then Joacim the high pâ—â—â—st and the ancients of the children of Israel that dwelt in Jerusalem came to behold the good things that God had shewed to Israel and to see Judith and to salute her 9 And when they came unto her they blessed her with
him 〈◊〉 upon Bel. bring him and intreat Bel that he may speak as though he were able to understand 42 Yet they cannot understand this themselves and leave them for they have no ‖ Or sense knowledge 43 The women also with cords about them sitting in the ways burn bran for perfume but if any of them drawn by some that passeth by lie with him she reproacheth her fellow that she was not thought as worthy as her self nor her cord broken 44 Whatsoever is done among them is false how may it then be thought or said that they are gods 45 They are made of carpenters and gold-smiths they can be nothing else then the workman will have them to be 46 And they themselves that made them can never continue long how should then the things that are made of them be gods 47 For they left lies and reproaches to them that come after 48 For when there cometh any war or plague upon them the priests consult with themselves where they may be hidden with them 49 How then cannot men perceive that they be no gods which can neither save themselves from war nor from plague 50 * Ps 115.4 Wisd 13.10 For seeing they be but of wood and overlaid with silver and gold it shall be known hereafter that they are false 51 And it shall manifestly appear to all nations and kings that they are no gods but the works of mens hands and that there is no work of God in them 52 Who then may not know that they are no gods 53 For neither can they set up a king in the land nor give rain unto men 54 Neither can they judge their own cause nor redress a wrong being unable for they are as crows between heaven and earth 55 Whereupon when fire falleth upon the house of gods of wood or laid over with gold or silver their priests will flee away and escape but they themselves shall be burnt asunder like beams 56 Moreover they cannot withstand any king or enemies how can it then be thought or said that they be gods 57 Neither are those gods of wood and laid over with silver or gold able to escape either from theeves or robbers 58 Whos 's gold and silver and garments wherewith they are clothed they that are strong do take and go away withal neither are they able to help themselves 59 Therefore it is better to be a king that sheweth his power or else a profitable vessel in an house which the owner shall have use of then such false gods or to be a door in an house to keep such things safe as be therein then such false gods or a pillar of wood in a palace then such false gods 60 For sun moon and stars being bright and sent to do their offices are obedient 61 In like manner the lightning when it breaketh forth is easie to be seen and ‖ Or the same â—ind after the same manner the wind bloweth in every countrey 62 And when God commandeth the clouds to go over the whole world they do as they are bidden 63 And the fire sent from above to consume hills and woods doeth as it is commanded but these are like unto them neither in shew nor power 64 Wherefore it is neither to be supposed nor said that they are gods seeing they are able neither to judge causes nor to do good unto men 65 Knowing therefore that they are no gods fear them not 66 For they can neither curse nor bless kings 67 Neither can they shew signs in the heavens among the heathen nor shine as the sun nor give light as the moon 68 The beasts are better then they for they can get under a covert and help themselves 69 It is then by no means manifest unto us that they are gods therefore fear them not 70 For as a scar-crow in a garden of cucumbers keepeth nothing so are their gods of wood and laid over with silver and gold 71 And likewise their gods of wood and laid over with silver and gold are like to a whitethorn in an orchard that every bird sitteth upon as also to a dead body that is cast into the dark 72 And you shall know them to be no gods by the ‖ Or purple and brightness bright purple that rotteth upon them and they themselves afterward shall be eaten and shall be a reproach in the countrey 73 Better therefore is the just man that hath none idols for he shall be far from reproach ¶ The song of the three holy children which followeth in the third chapter of DANIEL after this place fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace That which followeth is not in the Hebrew to wit And they walked unto these words Then Nebuchadnezzar verse 24. 2 Azarias his prayer and confession in the flame 24 wherewith the Caldeans about the oven were consumed but the three children within it were not hurt 28 The song of the three children in the oven ANd they walked in the midst of the fire praising God and blessing the Lord. 2 Then Azarias stood up and prayed on this manner and opening his mouth in the midst of the fire said 3 Blessed art thou O Lord God of our fathers thy name is worthy to be praised and glorified for evermore 4 For thou art righteous in all the things that thou hast done to us yea true are all thy works thy ways are right and * Psal â—â— 1â— all thy judgements truth 5 In all the things which thou hast brought upon us and upon the holy city of our fathers even Jerusalem thou hast executed true judgement for according to truth and judgement didst thou bring all these things upon us because of our sins 6 For we have sinned and committed iniquity departing from thee 7 In all things have we trespassed and not obeyed thy commandments nor kept them neither done as thou hast commanded us that it might go well with us 8 Wherefore all that thou hast brought upon us and every thing that thou hast done to us thou hast done in true judgement 9 And thou didst deliver us into the hands of lawless enemies most hateful forsakers of God and to an unjust king and the most wicked in all the world 10 And now we cannot open our mouths we are become a shame and reproach to thy servants and to them that worship thee 11 Yet deliver us not up wholly for thy names sake neither disanul thou thy covenant 12 And cause not thy mercy to depart from us for thy beloved Abrahams sake for thy servant Isaacs sake and for thy holy Israels sake 13 To whom thou hast spoken and promised That thou wouldest multiply their seed as the stars of heaven and as the sand that lieth upon the sea-shore 14 For we O Lord are become less then any nation and be kept under this day in all the world because of our sins 15 Neither is there at this time prince or prophet or leader or

XXXIII 1 The majesty of God 6 The blessings of the twelve tribes 26 The excellency of Israel ANd this is the blessing wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death 2 And he said the LORD came from Sinai and rose up from Seir unto them he shined forth from mount Paran and he came with ten thousands of saints from his right hand went †Heb a fire of law a fiery law for them 3 Yea he loved the people all his saints are in thy hand and they sat down at thy feet every one shall receive of thy words 4 Moses commanded us a law even the inheritance of the congregation of Jacob. 5 And he was king in Jeshurun when the heads of the people and the tribes of Israel were gathered together 6 ¶ Let Reuben live and not die and let not his men be few 7 ¶ And this is the blessing of Judah and he said Hear LORD the voice of Judah and bring him unto his people let his hands be sufficient for him and be thou an help to him from his enemies 8 ¶ And of Levi he said * Exod. 28.30 Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one whom thou didst prove at Massah and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah 9 Who said unto his father and to his mother I have not seen him neither did he acknowledge his brethren nor knew his own children for they have observed thy word and kept thy covenant 10 ‖ Or Let them teach c. They shall teach Jacob thy judgements and Israel thy law ‖ Or let them put incense they shall put incense †Heb. at thy nose before thee and whole burnt sacrifice upon thy altar 11 Bless LORD his substance and accept the work of his hands smite through the loyns of them that rise against him and of them that hate him that they rise not again 12 ¶ And of Benjamin he said The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him and the LORD shall cover him all the day long and he shall dwell between his shoulders 13 ¶ And of Joseph he said * Gen. 49.25 Blessed of the LORD be his land for the precious things of heaven for the dew and for the deep that coucheth beneath 14 And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun and for the precious things †Heb. thrust forth put forth by the †Heb. moons moon 15 And for the chief things of the ancient mountains and for the precious things of the lasting hills 16 And for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph and upon the top of the head of him that * Gen. 49.26 was separated from his brethren 17 His glory is like the firstling of his bullock and his horns are like the horns of unicorns with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim and they are the thousands of Manasleh 18 ¶ And of Zebulun he said Rejoyce Zebulun in thy going out and Issachar in thy tents 19 They shall call the people unto the mountain there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness for they shall suck of the abundance of the seas and of treasures hid in the sand 20 ¶ And of Gad he said Blessed be he that enlargeth Gad he dwelleth as a lion and teareth the arm with the crown of the head 21 And he provided the first part for himself because there in a portion of the law-giver was he
ashamed and sanctified themselves and brought in the burnt-offerings into the house of the LORD 16 And they stood in †Heb. their standing their place after their manner according to the law of Moses the man of God the priests sprinkled the bloud which they received of the hand of the Levites 17 For there were many in the congregation that were not sanctified therefore the Levites had the charge of the killing of the pass-overs for every one that was not clean to sanctifie them unto the LORD 18 For a multitude of the people even many of Ephraim and Manasseh Issachar and Zebulun had not cleansed themselves yet did they eat the pass-over otherwise then it was written but Hezekiah prayed for them saying The good LORD pardon everyone 19 That prepareth his heart to seek God the LORD God of his fathers though be be not cleansed according to the purification of the sanctuary 20 And the LORD hearkened to Hezekiah and healed the people 21 And the children of Israel that were †Heb. found present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness and the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day by day singing with †Heb. instruments of strength loud instruments unto the LORD 22 And Hezekiah spake †Heb. to the heart of all c. comfortably unto all the Levites that taught the good knowledge of the LORD and they did eat throughout the feast seven days offering peace offerings and making confession to the LORD God of their fathers 23 And the whole assembly took counsel to keep other seven days and they kept other seven days with gladness 24 For Hezekiah king of Judah †Heb. lifted up of offered did give to the congregation a thousand bullocks and seven thousand sheep and the princes gave to the congregation a thousand bullocks and ten thousand sheep and a great number of priests sanctified themselves 25 And all the congregation of Judah with the priests and the Levites and all the congregation that came out of Israel the strangers that came out of the land of Israel and that dwelt in Judah rejoyced 26 So there was great joy in Jerusalem for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem 27 ¶ Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the peoâ—le and their voice was heard and the prayer came up to †Heb. the habitation of his holiness his holy dwelling-place even unto heaven CHAP. XXXI 1 The people is forward in destroying idolatry 2 Hezekiah or â—â—râ—th the courses of the priests and Levites and provideth for their work and maintenance 5 The peoples forwardness in offerings and tithes If Hezekiah appointeth officers to dispose of the tithes 20 The sincerity of Hezekiah NOw when all this was finished all Israel that were †Heb. found present went out to the cities of Judah and * 2 Kinâ— 18.4 brake the †Heb. statues images in pieces and cut down the groves and threw down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin in Ephraim also and Manasseh †Heb. until to make an end until they had utterly destroyed them all Then all the children of Israel returned every man to his possession into their own cities 2 ¶ And Hezekiah appointed the courses of the priests and the Levites after their courses every man according to his service the priests and Levites for burnt-offerings and for peace-offerings to minister and to give thanks and to praise in the gates of the tents of the LORD 3 He appointed also the kings portion of his substance for the burnt-offerings to wit for the morning and evening burnt-offerings and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths and for the new-moons and for the set feasts as it is written in the * Num. 28. law of the LORD 4 Moreover he commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD 5 ¶ And assoon as the commandment †Heb. brake forth came abroad the children of Israel brought in abundance the first-fruits of corn wine and oyl and ‖ Or. datâ—s honey and of all the increase of the field and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly 6 And concerning the children of Israel and Judah that dwelt in the cities of Judah they also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep and the * Levit. 27.30 Deut. 14.28 tithe of holy things which were consecrated unto the LORD their God and said them †Heb. heaps heaps by heaps 7 In the third moneth they began to lay the foundation of the heaps and finished them in the seventh moneth 8 And when Hezekiah and the princes came and saw the heaps they blessed the LORD and his people Israel 9 Then Hezekiah questioned with the priests and the Levites concerning the heaps 10 And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok answered him and said Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD we have had enough to eat and have left plenty for the LORD hath blessed his people and that which is left is this great store 11 ¶ Then Hezekiah commanded to prepare ‖ Or storehouses chambers in the house of the LORD and they prepared them 12 And brought in the offerings and the tithes and the dedicate things faithfully over which Cononiah the Levite was ruler and Shimei his brother was the next 13 And Jehiel and Azaziah and Nahath and Asahel and Jerimoth and Jozabad and Eliel and Ismachian and Mahath and Benaiah were overseers †Heb. at the hand under the hand of Cononiah and Shimei his brother at the commandment of Hezekiah the king and Azariah the ruler of the house of God 14 And Kore the son of Imnah the Levite the porter toward the east was over the free-will-offerings of God to distribute the oblations of the LORD and the most holy things 15 And †Heb. at his hand next him were Eden and Miniamin and Jeshuah and Shemaiah Amariah and Shecaniah in the cities of the priests in their ‖ Or trust set office to give to their brethren by courses as well to the great as to the small 16 Beside their genealogy of males from three years old and upward even unto every one that entreth into the house of the LORD his daily portion for their service in their charges according to their courses 17 Both to the genealogy of the priests by the house of their fathers and the Levites from twenty years old and upward in their charges by their courses 18 And to the genealogy of all their little ones their wives and their sons and their daughters through all the congregation for in their ‖ Or trust set office they sanctifie themselves in holiness 19 Also of the sons

heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the kings meat nor with the wine which he drank therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself 9 Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs 10 And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel I fear my lord the king who hath appointed your meat and your drink for why should he see your faces †Heb. sadder worse liking then the children which are of your ‖ Or term or continuance sort then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king 11 Then said Daniel to ‖ Or the sieward Melzar whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel Hananiah Mishael and Azariah 12 Prove thy servants I beseech thee ten days and let them give us †Heb. of pulse pulse †Heb. that we may eat c. to eat and water to drink 13 Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the kings meat and as thou seest deal with thy servants 14 So he consented to them in this matter and proved them ten days 15 And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh then all the children which did eat the portion of the kings meat 16 Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat and the wine that they should drink and gave them pulse 17 ¶ As for these four children God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom and ‖ Or be made Daniel understand Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams 18 Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar 19 And the king commauned with them and among them all was found none like Daniel Hananiah Mishael and Azariah therefore stood they before the king 20 And in all matters of †Heb. wisdom of understanding wisdom and understanding that the king enquired of them he found them ten times better then all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm 21 And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus CHAP. II. 1 Nebuchadnezzar forgetting his dream requireth it of the Caldeans by promises and threatnings 10 They acknowledging their inability are judged to die 14 Daniel obtaining some respite findeth the dream 19 He blesseth God â—4 He staying the decree is brought to the king 31 The dream 36 The interpretation 4â— Daniels advancement ANd in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams wherewith his spirit was troubled and his sleep brake from him 2 Then the king commanded to call the magicians and the astrologers and the sorcerers and the Caldeans for to shew the king his dreams so they came and stood before the king 3 And the king said unto them I have dreamed a dream and my spirit was troubled to know the dream 4 Then spake the Caldeans to the king in Syriack * Ch. 3.9 O king live for ever tell thy servants the dream we will shew the interpretation 5 The king answered and said to the Caldeans The thing is gone from me it ye will not make known unto me the dream with the interpretation thereof ye shall be * Ch. 3.29 †Câ—ld maâ—e pieces cut in pieces and your houses shall be made a dunghil 6 But it ye shew the dream and the interpretation thereof ye shall receive of me gifts and ‖ Or see ch 5. â—7 rewards and great honour therefore shew me the dream and the interpretation thereof 7 They answered again and said Let the king tell his servants the dream and we will shew the interpretation of it 8 The king answered and said I know of certainty that ye would †Cald. buy gain the time because ye see the thing is gone from me 9 But if ye will not make known unto me the dream there is but one decree for you for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me till the time be changed therefore tell me the dream and I shall know that ye can shew me the interpretation thereof 10 ¶ The Caldeans answered before the king and said There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the kings matter therefore there is no king lord nor ruler that asked such things at any magician or astrologer or Caldean 11 And it is a rare thing that the king requireth and there is none other that can shew it before the king except the gods whose dwelling is not with flesh 12 For this cause the king was angry and very furious and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon 13 And the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain 14 ¶ Then Daniel †Câ—â—d â—â—swered answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the ‖ Or chief marshal †Câ—ld chief of the executioners or slaughter-men captain of the kings guard which was gone forth to slay the wise-men of Babylon 15 He answered and said to Arioch the kings captain Why is the decree so hasty from the king Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel 16 Then Daniel went in and desired of the king that he would give him time and that he would shew the king the interpretation 17 Then Daniel went to his house and made the thing known to Hananiah Mishael and Azariah his companions 18 That they would desire mercies †Cald. from before God of the God of heaven concerning this secret ‖ Or that they should not destroy Daniel c. that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon 19 ¶ Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night-vision then Daniel blessed the God of heaven 20 Daniel answered and said * Ps â—13 2 115.18 Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever for wisdom and might are his 21 And be changeth the times and the seasons he removeth kings and setteth up kings he giveth wisdom unto the wise and knowledge to them that know understanding 22 He revealeth the deep and secret things he knoweth what is in the darkness and the light dwelleth with him 23 I thank thee and praise thee O thou God of my fathers who hast given me wisdom and might and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee for thou hast now made known unto us the kings matter 24 ¶ Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon he went and said thus unto him Destroy not the wise men of Babylon bring me in before the king and I will shew unto the king the interpretation 25 Then Arioch brought
are you brethren To whom they said We are of the sons of Nephthalim which are captives in Nineve 4 Then he said to them Do ye know Tobit our kinsman and they said We know him Then said he Is he in good health 5 And they said He is both alive and in good health and Tobias said He is my father 6 Then Raguel leaped up and kissed him and wept 7 And blessed him and said unto him Thou art the son of an honest and good man but when he had heard that Tobit was blind he was sorrowful and wept 8 And likewise Edna his wife and Sara his daughter wept Moreover they entertained them cheerfully and after that they had killed ‖ a sacking ram or lamb Junius a ram of the flock they set store of meat on the table Then said Tobias to Raphael Brother Azarias speak of those things of which thou didst talk in the way and let this business be dispatched 9 So he communicated the matter with Raguel and Raguel said to Tobias Eat and drink and make merry 10 For it is meet that thou shouldest marry my daughter nevertheless I will declare unto thee the truth 11 I have given my daughter in marriage to seven men who died that night they came in unto her nevertheless for the present be merry But Tobias said I will eat nothing here till we agree and swear one to another 12 Raguel said Then take her from henceforth according to the ‖ Or law manner for thou art her cousin and she is thine and the merciful God give you good success in all things 13 Then he called his daughter Sara and she came to her father and he took her by the hand and gave her to be wife to Tobias saying Behold take her after * Numb 36.6 the law of Moses and lead her away to thy father and he blessed them 14 And called Edna his wife and took paper and did write an instrument of covenants and sealed it 15 Then they began to eat 16 After Raguel called his wife Edna and said unto her Sister prepare another chamber and bring her in thither 17 Which when she had done as he had bidden her she brought her thither and she wept and she ‖ Or licked received the tears of her daughter and said unto her 18 Be of good comfort my daughter the Lord of heaven and earth give thee joy for this thy sorrow be of good comfort my daughter CHAP. VIII 3 Tobias driveth the wicked spirit away as he was taught 4 He and his wife rise up to pray 10 Raguel thought he was dead 15 but finding him alive praiseth God 19 and maketh a wedding-feast ANd when they had supped they brought Tobias in unto her 2 And as he went he remembred the words of Raphael and took the ‖ Or. emberâ—â— ashes of the perfumes and put the heart and the liver of the fish thereupon and made a smoke therewith 3 The which smell when the evil spirit had smelled he fled into the utmost parts of Egypt and the angel bound him 4 And after that they were both shut in together Tobias rose out of the bed and said Sister arise and let us pray that God would have pity on us 5 Then began Tobias to say Blessed art thou O God of our fathers and blessed is thy holy and glorious name for ever let the heavens bless thee and all thy creatures 6 * Gen. 2.7 18 22. Thou madest Adam and gavest him Eve his wife for an helper and stay of them came mankinde Thou hast said It is not good that man should be alone let us make unto him an aid like unto himself 7 And now O Lord I take not this my sister for lust but uprightly therefore mercifully ordain that we may become aged together 8 And she said with him Amen 9 So they slept both that night And Raguel arose and went and made a grave 10 Saying I fear lest he also be dead 11 But when Raguel was come into his house 12 He said unto his wife Edna Send one of the maids and let her see whether he be alive if he be not that we may bury him and no man know it 13 So the maid opened the door and went in and found them both asleep 14 And came forth and told them that he was alive 15 Then Raguel praised God and said O God thou art worthy to be praised with all pure and holy praise therefore let thy saints prise thee with all thy creatures and let all thine angels and thine elect praise thee for ever 16 Thou art to be praised for thou hast made me joyful and that is not come to me which I suspected but thou hast dealt with us according to thy great mercy 17 Thou art to be praised because thou hast had mercy of two that were the onely begotten children of their fathers grant them mercy O Lord and finish their life in health with joy and mercy 18 Then Raguel bade his servants to fill the grave 19 And he kept the wedding-feast fourteen days 20 For before the days of the marriage were finished Raguel had said unto him by an oath that he should not depart till the fourteen days of the marriage were expired 21 And then he should take the half of his goods and go in safety to his father and should have the rest when I and my wife be dead CHAP. IX 1 Tobias sendeth the angel unto Gabael for the money 6 The angel bringetb it and Gabael to the wedding THen Tobias called Raphael and said unto him 2 Brother Azarias take with thee a servant and two camels go to Rages of Media to Gabael and bring me the money and bring him to the wedding 3 For Raguel hath sworn that I shall not depart 4 But my father counteth the days and if I tarry long he will be very sorry 5 So Raphael went out and lodged with Gabael and gave him the hand-writing who brought forth bags which were sealed up and gave them to him 6 And early in the morning they went forth both together and came to the wedding and ‖ Or Gabael â—â—ssed Tobias and his wife Junius Tobias blessed his wife CHAP. XI 3 The two witnesses prophesie 6 They have power to shut heaven that it ram not 7 The beast shall fight against them and kill them 8 They lie unburied 11 and after three days and an half rise again 14 The second wo is past 15 The seventh trumpet soundeth ANd there was given me a reed like unto a rod and the angel stood saying Rise and measure the temple of God and the altar and them that worship therein 2 But the court which is without the temple †Gr. cast out leave out and measure it not for it is given unto the Gentiles and the holy city shall they tread under foot fourty and two moneths 3 And ‖ Or I will give unto my two witnesses that they may prophesie I will give power unto my two witnesses and they shall prophesie a thousand two hundred and threescore days clothed in sackcloth 4 These are the * Zech. 4.3.11.14 two olive trees and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth 5 And if any man will hurt them fire proceedeth out of their mouth and devoureth their enemies and if any man will hurt them he must in this manner be killed 6 These have power to shut heaven that it rain not in the days of their prophesie and have power over waters to turn them to bloud and to smite the earth with all plagues as often as they will 7 And when they shall have finished their testimony the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them and shall overcome them and kill them 8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt where also our Lord was crucified 9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an hall and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves 10 And they that dwell upon the earn shall rejoyce over them and make merry and shall send gifts one to another because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth 11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entred into them and they stood upon their feet and great fear fell upon them which saw them 12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them Come up hither And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud and their enemies beheld them 13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake and the tenth part of the city fell and in the earthquake ware slain †Gr. names of men of men seven thousand and the remnant were affrighted and gave glory to the God of heaven 14 The second wo is past and behold the third wo cometh quickly 15 And the seventh angel sounded and there were great voices in heaven saying The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ and he shall reign for ever and ever 16 And the four and twenty elders which sat before God on their seats fell upon their faces and worshipped God 17 Saying We give thee thanks O Lord God Almighty which art and wast and art to come because thou hast taken to thee thy great power and hast reigned 18 And the nations were angry and thy wrath is come and the time of the dead that they should be judged and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets and to the saints and them that fear thy name small and great and shouldest destroy them which ‖ Or corrupt destroy the earth 19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament and there were lightnings and voices and thundrings and an earthquake and great hail CHAP. XII 1 A woman clothed with the sun travaileth 4 The great red dragon standeth before her ready to devour her childe 6 when she was delivered she fleeth into the wilderness 7 Michael and his angels fight with the dragon and prevail 13 The dragon being cast down into the earth persecuteth the woman ANd there appeared a great ‖ Or signe wonder in heaven a woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet and upon her head a crown of twelve stars 2 And she being with childe cried travailing in birth and pained to be delivered 3 And there appeared another ‖ Or signe wonder in heaven and behold a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns upon his heads 4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven and did cast them to the earth and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered for to devour her childe assoon as it was born 5 And she brought forth a man-childe who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron and her childe was caught up unto God and to his throne 6 And the woman fled into the wilderness where she hath a place prepared of God that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days 7 And there was war in heaven Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and the dragon fought and his angels 8 And prevailed not neither was there place found any more in heaven 9 And the great dragon was cast out that
hour so great riches is come to nought And every ship-master and all the company in ships and sailors and as many as trade by sea stood afar off 18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning saying What city is like unto this great city 19 And they cast duâ—t on their heads and cried weeping and wailing saying Alas alas that great city wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness for in one hour is she made desolate 20 Rejoyce over her thou heaven and ye holy apostles and prophets for God hath avenged you on her 21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great milstone and cast it into the sea saying Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down and shall be found no more at all 22 And the voice of harpers and musicians and of pipers and trumpeters shall be heard no more at all in thee and no craftsman of whatsoever craft he be shall be sound any more in thee and the sound of a milstone shall be heard no more at all in thee 23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee for thy merchants were the great men of the earth for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived 24 And in her was found the bloud of prophets and of saints and of all that were slain upon the earth CHAP. XIX 1 God is praised in heaven for judging the great whore and avenging the bloud of his saints 7 The marriage of the Lamb. 10 The angel will not be worshipped 17 The fowls called to the great slaughter ANd after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven saying Alleluia Salvation and glory and honour and power unto the Lord our God 2 For true and righteous are his judgements for he hath judged the great whore which did corrupt the earth with her sâ—rnication and hath avenged the bloud of his servants at her hand 3 And again they said Alleluia And her smoke rose up for ever and ever 4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne saying Amen Alleluia 5 And a voice came out of the throne saying Praise our God all ye his servants and ye that fear him both small and great 6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude and as the voice of many waters and as the voice of mighty thundrings saying Alleluia for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth 7 Let us be glad and rejoyce and give honour to him for the marriage of the Lamb is come and his wife hath made her self ready 8 And to her was granted that she should be arayed in fine linen clean and white for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints 9 And he saith unto me Write * Mat. 22.2 Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage-supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me These are the true sayings of God 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him and he said unto me * Chap. 22 9. See thou do it not I am thy fellow-servant and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus worship God for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophesie 11 And I saw heaven opened and behold a white horse and he that sat upon him was called faithful and true and in righteousness he doth judge and make war 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire and on his head were many crowns and he had a name written that no man knew but he himself 13 * Isa 63.2 And he was clothed with a vesture dipt in bloud and his name is called The Word of God 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses clothed in fine linen white and clean 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword that with it he should smite the nations and he shall rule them with a rod of iron and he treadeth the wine-press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written * Chap. 17.14 KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS 17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun and he cried with a loud voice saying to all the fowls that flie in the midst of heaven Come and gather your selves together unto the supper of the great God 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of captains and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of them that sit on them and the flesh of all men both free and bond both small and great 19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse and against his army 20 And the beast was taken and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast and them that worshipped his image These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone 21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse which sword proceeded out of his mouth and all the fowls were filled with their flesh CHAP. XX. 2 Satan bound for a thousand years 5 The first resurrection 6 they blessed that have part therein 7 Satan let loose again 8 God and Magog 10 The devil cast into the lake of fire and brimstone 12 The last and general resurrection ANd I saw an angel come down from heaven having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand 2 And he laid hold on the dragon that old serpent which is the devil and Satan and bound him a thousand years 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit and shut him up and set a seal upon him that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years should be fulfilled and after that he must be loosed a little season 4 And I saw thrones and they sat upon them and judgement was given unto them and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus and for the word of God and which had not worshipped the beast neither his image neither had received his mark upon their forcheads or in their hands and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished This is the first resurrection 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection on such the second death hath no power but they shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years 7 And when the thousand years are expired Satan shall be loosed out of his prison 8
