and_o that_o we_o hear_v the_o stroke_n of_o the_o scourge_n &_o the_o knock_v of_o the_o hammer_n and_o if_o we_o meditate_v the_o exercise_n of_o death_n they_o say_v that_o we_o be_v to_o imagine_v that_o we_o be_v already_o upon_o the_o point_n to_o die_v and_o give_v over_o by_o the_o physician_n and_o with_o the_o holy_a candle_n in_o our_o hand_n how_o much_o more_o reason_n then_o shall_v it_o be_v that_o in_o this_o exercise_n of_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n we_o perform_v those_o act_n which_o we_o have_v name_v not_o as_o man_n who_o speak_v with_o a_o absent_a person_n and_o that_o far_o off_o from_o we_o but_o as_o man_n who_o speak_v with_o god_n present_a since_o the_o very_a exercise_n itself_o require_v it_o and_o in_o reality_n of_o truth_n he_o be_v present_a chap._n v._o of_o some_o difference_n and_o advantage_n which_o there_o be_v in_o this_o exercise_n of_o go_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n to_o the_o end_n that_o we_o may_v the_o better_o see_v the_o perfection_n and_o profit_n of_o this_o exercise_n and_o way_n of_o go_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n which_o we_o have_v show_v and_o to_o the_o end_n that_o it_o may_v be_v the_o more_o declare_v note_n note_n we_o will_v touch_v some_o difference_n and_o advantage_n which_o there_o be_v therein_o the_o first_o be_v this_o in_o the_o other_o exercise_n of_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n which_o some_o use_n to_o propound_v all_o seem_v to_o be_v but_o a_o act_n of_o the_o understanding_n and_o all_o seem_v to_o end_v in_o this_o that_o they_o imagine_v the_o presence_n of_o god_n but_o this_o exercise_n presuppose_v this_o act_n of_o the_o understanding_n &_o of_o faith_n that_o god_n be_v present_a and_o then_o it_o go_v further_o on_o and_o make_v act_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o in_o these_o it_o do_v principal_o consist_v and_o this_o do_v evident_o appear_v to_o be_v better_o and_o more_o profitable_a than_o the_o former_a just_o so_o as_o we_o say_v in_o the_o treatise_n of_o prayer_n 14._o tract_n 5._o c._n 14._o that_o we_o be_v not_o to_o dwell_v in_o the_o act_n of_o the_o understanding_n which_o be_v the_o meditation_n and_o consideration_n of_o thing_n but_o in_o the_o act_n of_o the_o will_n that_o be_v in_o the_o affect_v and_o desire_n of_o virtue_n and_o the_o imitation_n of_o christ_n our_o lord_n and_o this_o be_v to_o be_v of_o the_o fruit_n of_o prayer_n and_o so_o here_o the_o chief_a and_o best_a and_o most_o profitable_a part_n of_o this_o exercise_n consist_v in_o the_o act_n of_o the_o will_n and_o this_o be_v that_o whereupon_o we_o must_v insist_v most_o the_o second_o benefit_n which_o follow_v upon_o this_o exercise_n note_n note_n be_v that_o it_o be_v more_o sweet_a and_o facile_a than_o the_o rest_n for_o to_o those_o other_o be_v necessary_a discourse_n and_o labour_n of_o the_o understanding_n and_o imagination_n to_o represent_v form_n before_o it_o which_o be_v the_o thing_n that_o use_v to_o weary_a and_o to_o break_v the_o brain_n and_o therefore_o it_o can_v last_v so_o long_o whereas_o towards_o this_o exercise_n there_o be_v no_o need_n of_o discourse_n but_o of_o affect_n and_o act_n of_o the_o will_n which_o be_v produce_v without_o difficulty_n for_o although_o it_o be_v true_a that_o there_o be_v some_o act_n of_o the_o understanding_n even_o there_o yet_o that_o be_v presuppose_v by_o faith_n without_o weary_v we_o thereby_o and_o as_o when_o we_o adore_v the_o b._n sacrament_n we_o presuppose_v by_o faith_n that_o christ_n our_o lord_n be_v present_a there_o and_o all_o our_o attention_n and_o employment_n be_v in_o adore_v revere_v love_a and_o beg_a favour_n of_o that_o lord_n who_o we_o know_v to_o be_v present_a so_o it_o be_v in_o this_o exercise_n and_o from_o hence_o also_o it_o be_v that_o the_o same_o be_v more_o facile_a one_o may_v continue_v and_o persevere_v in_o it_o longer_z tyme._n for_o even_o to_o sick_a person_n who_o be_v not_o capable_a of_o any_o other_o prayer_n we_o be_v wont_v to_o advise_v that_o they_o be_v often_o to_o lift_v up_o their_o heart_n to_o god_n with_o some_o affect_n &_o act_n of_o the_o will_n because_o they_o may_v be_v produce_v with_o facility_n and_o therefore_o although_o there_o be_v no_o other_o advantage_n belong_v to_o this_o exercise_n but_o only_o that_o one_o may_v continue_v and_o persevere_v in_o it_o long_a time_n then_o in_o the_o rest_n we_o shall_v have_v reason_n to_o esteem_v it_o much_o and_o therefore_o how_o much_o more_o be_v we_o to_o do_v it_o have_v so_o many_o advantage_n beside_o the_o three_o and_o principal_a thing_n &_o that_o which_o we_o be_v to_o observe_v very_o well_o be_v that_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n be_v not_o only_o consider_v to_o the_o end_n that_o we_o may_v dwell_v in_o that_o but_o to_o the_o end_n that_o it_o may_v serve_v we_o for_o a_o mean_n to_o do_v those_o other_o thing_n well_o which_o we_o be_v to_o perform_v for_o if_o we_o shall_v content_v ourselves_o with_o have_v a_o attention_n to_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o thereby_o do_v neglect_v our_o work_n themselves_o and_o do_v perform_v they_o with_o fault_n this_o will_v be_v no_o good_a devotion_n but_o a_o illusion_n we_o be_v always_o to_o make_v account_n that_o although_o we_o carry_v one_o of_o our_o eye_n towards_o his_o divine_a majesty_n we_o must_v place_v the_o other_o upon_o the_o work_n itself_o that_o we_o may_v perform_v it_o well_o for_o the_o love_n of_o he_o and_o our_o see_v that_o we_o stand_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n before_o himself_o or_o about_o those_o conceit_n which_o he_o will_v draw_v out_o of_o that_o which_o he_o have_v present_a to_o he_o and_o whilst_o he_o will_v needs_o draw_v this_o or_o that_o good_a consideration_n from_o thence_o many_o time_n he_o mark_n not_o well_o what_o he_o be_v do_v and_o so_o he_o fall_v out_o to_o do_v it_o ill_o but_o this_o exercise_n since_o it_o busi_v not_o the_o understanding_n do_v not_o hinder_v any_o way_n the_o good_a performance_n of_o the_o work_n but_o rather_o it_o do_v great_o help_v that_o they_o may_v be_v exact_o do_v for_o he_o be_v do_v excellent_a manner_n in_o the_o just_a with_o who_o he_o abide_v by_o his_o grace_n and_o work_v strange_a and_o wonderful_a thing_n in_o they_o but_o above_o all_o he_o be_v with_o some_o great_a
