be_v a_o perfect_a priest_n if_o but_o one_o soul_n of_o the_o elect_a or_o those_o he_o intercede_v for_o be_v leave_v unsaved_a and_o this_o be_v indeed_o the_o top_n and_o high_a consideration_n so_o much_o do_v it_o concern_v he_o to_o effect_v it_o of_o all_o the_o work_n that_o ever_o he_o do_v he_o be_v most_o engage_v in_o this_o it_o will_v not_o only_o be_v the_o loss_n of_o a_o business_n which_o concern_v he_o and_o of_o so_o much_o work_n but_o himself_o must_v be_v lose_v in_o it_o too_o and_o the_o reason_n be_v that_o he_o intercede_v as_o a_o surety_n he_o be_v not_o only_o a_o surety_n on_o earth_n in_o die_v and_o so_o be_v to_o look_v to_o do_v that_o work_v thorough_o die_v that_o christ_n be_v a_o surety_n as_o well_o by_o intercede_v as_o by_o die_v and_o to_o be_v sure_a to_o lay_v down_o a_o price_n sufficient_a or_o else_o himself_o have_v go_v for_o it_o he_o pawn_v in_o that_o work_n not_o only_o his_o honour_n but_o even_o his_o life_n and_o soul_n to_o effect_v it_o or_o lose_v himself_o in_o it_o but_o he_o be_v a_o surety_n now_o also_o in_o heaven_n by_o intercede_v this_o you_o may_v find_v to_o be_v the_o scope_n of_o heb._n 7._o 22._o by_o observe_v the_o coherence_n of_o that_o 22._o ver_fw-la wherein_o he_o be_v call_v a_o surety_n with_o ver_fw-la 23_o 24_o 25._o that_o title_n and_o appellation_n be_v there_o give_v he_o in_o relation_n unto_o this_o part_n of_o his_o office_n especial_o and_o although_o it_o hold_v true_a of_o all_o part_n of_o his_o office_n whatsoever_o yet_o the_o coherence_n carry_v it_o that_o for_o then_o whilst_o on_o earth_n and_o for_o which_o now_o he_o undertake_v in_o heaven_n that_o on_o earth_n he_o be_v a_o surety_n to_o pay_v a_o price_n so_o sufficient_a as_o shall_v satisfy_v god_n justice_n which_o have_v pay_v he_o be_v discharge_v in_o that_o respect_n and_o so_o far_o of_o that_o obligation_n and_o his_o bond_n for_o that_o be_v cancel_v but_o so_o as_o still_o he_o remain_v a_o surety_n bind_v in_o another_o obligation_n as_o great_a even_o for_o the_o bring_n to_o salvation_n those_o who_o he_o die_v for_o for_o their_o person_n remain_v still_o unsaved_a though_o the_o debt_n be_v then_o pay_v and_o till_o they_o be_v save_v he_o be_v not_o quit_v of_o this_o surety-ship_n and_o engagement_n and_o second_o these_o two_o suretyship_n do_v differ_v also_o by_o the_o differ_a pawn_n which_o he_o be_v engage_v to_o forfeit_v by_o fail_v in_o each_o of_o these_o work_n for_o the_o payment_n of_o our_o debt_n his_o soul_n itself_o lie_v at_o the_o stake_n which_o he_o offer_v up_o for_o sin_n but_o for_o the_o save_n of_o the_o person_n all_o his_o honour_n in_o heaven_n lie_v at_o stake_n he_o live_v to_o intercede_v he_o possess_v heaven_n upon_o these_o term_n and_o it_o be_v one_o end_n of_o his_o life_n so_o that_o as_o he_o must_v have_v sink_v under_o god_n wrath_n if_o he_o have_v not_o pay_v the_o debt_n his_o soul_n stand_v in_o our_o soul_n stead_n so_o he_o must_v yet_o quit_v heaven_n and_o give_v over_o live_v there_o if_o he_o bring_v we_o not_o thither_o it_o be_v true_a he_o intercede_v not_o as_o a_o common_a person_n which_o relation_n in_o all_o other_o foremention_v act_n he_o still_o bear_v thus_o in_o his_o death_n he_o be_v both_o a_o common_a person_n and_o a_o surety_n represent_v we_o so_o as_o we_o die_v in_o he_o so_o likewise_o in_o his_o resurrection_n we_o arise_v with_o he_o and_o in_o his_o ascension_n we_o ascend_v etc._n etc._n but_o yet_o he_o intercede_v not_o under_o that_o relation_n namely_o not_o as_o a_o common_a person_n for_o we_o must_v not_o can_v be_v say_v to_o intercede_v in_o he_o for_o this_o last_o work_n lie_v not_o upon_o we_o to_o do_v he_o do_v it_o whole_o for_o we_o indeed_o but_o not_o in_o our_o stead_n or_o as_o that_o which_o we_o shall_v have_v do_v though_o on_o our_o behalf_n for_o it_o be_v the_o last_o the_o crown_n of_o all_o his_o work_n of_o mediation_n be_v therefore_o proper_a to_o he_o as_o mediator_n and_o his_o sole_a work_n as_o such_o thus_o in_o like_a manner_n the_o first_o work_n of_o incarnation_n and_o answerable_o the_o last_o of_o intercession_n in_o neither_o of_o these_o be_v christ_n a_o common_a person_n represent_v other_o though_o a_o common_a saviour_n of_o other_o in_o these_o for_o the_o one_o be_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o the_o other_o the_o accomplishment_n of_o all_o and_o so_o proper_a only_o to_o himself_o as_o mediator_n but_o although_o he_o intercede_v not_o as_o a_o common_a person_n as_o represent_v we_o in_o what_o we_o be_v to_o have_v do_v for_o ourselves_o yet_o so_o as_o that_o other_o relation_n of_o a_o surety_n be_v continue_v
more_o like_a to_o these_o of_o we_o then_o those_o be_v which_o the_o angel_n have_v so_o then_o by_o these_o two_o step_n we_o have_v gain_v these_o two_o thing_n that_o even_o in_o christ_n humane_a nature_n though_o glorify_v affection_n of_o pity_n and_o compassion_n be_v true_a and_o real_a and_o not_o metaphorical_o attribute_v to_o he_o as_o they_o be_v unto_o god_n and_o also_o more_o near_o and_o like_a unto_o we_o here_o then_o those_o in_o the_o angel_n be_v even_o affection_n proper_a to_o man_n nature_n and_o true_o humane_a and_o these_o he_o shall_v have_v have_v although_o this_o humane_a nature_n have_v from_o the_o very_a first_o assumption_n of_o it_o be_v as_o glorious_a as_o it_o be_v now_o in_o heaven_n but_o now_o three_o add_v this_o further_o that_o god_n so_o order_v it_o that_o before_o christ_n shall_v clothe_v this_o his_o humane_a nature_n with_o that_o glory_n he_o have_v in_o heaven_n and_o put_v this_o glory_n upon_o it_o he_o shall_v first_o take_v it_o as_o clothe_v with_o all_o our_o infirmity_n even_o the_o very_a same_o that_o do_v cleave_v unto_o we_o and_o shall_v live_v in_o this_o world_n as_o we_o do_v for_o many_o year_n and_o during_o that_o time_n god_n prepare_v for_o he_o all_o sort_n of_o affliction_n and_o misery_n to_o run_v through_o which_o we_o ourselves_o do_v here_o meet_v withal_o and_o all_o that_o time_n he_o be_v acquaint_v with_o and_o enure_v unto_o all_o the_o like_a sorrow_n that_o we_o be_v and_o god_n leave_v he_o to_o that_o infirmity_n and_o tenderness_n of_o spirit_n to_o take_v in_o thereby_o will_v have_v make_v he_o true_o and_o real_o affectionate_a towards_o we_o with_o affection_n humane_a and_o proper_a to_o a_o man_n and_o so_o much_o near_o and_o like_a we_o then_o what_o be_v in_o the_o angel_n themselves_o or_o then_o be_v attribute_v to_o god_n when_o he_o be_v say_v to_o pity_v we_o but_o further_a his_o take_v our_o nature_n at_o first_o clothe_v with_o frailty_n and_o live_v in_o this_o world_n as_o we_o this_o have_v for_o ever_o fit_v his_o heart_n by_o experience_n to_o be_v in_o our_o very_a heart_n and_o bosom_n and_o not_o only_o or_o bare_o to_o know_v the_o distress_n and_o as_o a_o man_n to_o be_v affect_v with_o a_o humane_a affection_n to_o one_o of_o his_o kind_n but_o experimental_o remember_v the_o like_a in_o himself_o once_o and_o this_o likewise_o the_o text_n suggest_v as_o the_o way_n whereby_o our_o distress_n be_v let_v into_o his_o heart_n the_o more_o feel_o now_o he_o be_v in_o heaven_n we_o have_v not_o a_o highpriest_n that_o can_v be_v touch_v with_o the_o feel_n of_o our_o infirmity_n but_o be_v in_o all_o point_n tempt_v like_a as_o we_o be_v yet_o without_o sin_n and_o the_o more_o to_o comfort_v we_o herein_o observe_v how_o full_o and_o universal_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o christ_n have_v be_v tempt_v here_o below_o first_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o they_o or_o the_o several_a sort_n of_o temptation_n tender_a in_o all_o sort_n of_o affection_n than_o any_o of_o we_o even_o as_o it_o be_v in_o love_n and_o pity_n and_o this_o make_v he_o a_o man_n of_o sorrow_n and_o that_o more_o than_o anyother_n man_n be_v or_o shall_v be_v now_o therefore_o to_o explicate_v the_o way_n how_o our_o misery_n be_v let_v into_o his_o heart_n &_o come_v to_o stir_v up_o such_o kindly_a affection_n of_o pity_n and_o compassion_n in_o he_o it_o be_v not_o hard_a to_o conceive_v from_o what_o have_v now_o be_v say_v and_o from_o what_o the_o text_n do_v further_a hint_n unto_o we_o 1._o the_o understanding_n and_o knowledge_n of_o that_o humane_a nature_n have_v notice_n and_o cognisance_n of_o all_o the_o occurrence_n that_o befall_v his_o member_n here_o and_o for_o this_o the_o text_n be_v clear_a seek_v for_o at_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n namely_o grace_n and_o mercy_n therefore_o let_v we_o come_v bold_o to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n that_o we_o may_v find_v grace_v and_o mercy_n to_o that_o in_o the_o type_n both_o of_o the_o highpriest_n of_o old_a and_o of_o the_o mercy-seat_n in_o the_o holy_a of_o holies_n and_o further_o to_o confirm_v this_o the_o apostle_n go_v on_o to_o open_v that_o very_a type_n and_o to_o apply_v it_o unto_o christ_n unto_o this_o very_a purpose_n which_o we_o have_v now_o in_o hand_n and_o this_o in_o the_o very_a next_o word_n to_o my_o text_n chap._n 5._o 1_o 2_o 3._o verse_n in_o which_o he_o give_v a_o full_a description_n of_o a_o highpriest_n and_o all_o the_o property_n and_o requisite_n that_o be_v to_o be_v in_o he_o together_o with_o the_o eminent_a and_o principal_a end_n that_o that_o office_n be_v ordain_v for_o now_o the_o great_a and_o essential_a qualification_n there_o specify_v that_o be_v to_o be_v in_o a_o highpriest_n be_v mercy_n and_o grace_n and_o the_o end_n for_o which_o he_o be_v there_o say_v to_o be_v ordain_v be_v work_n of_o mercy_n and_o grace_n and_o beside_o what_o the_o word_n in_o of_o god_n and_o heir_n of_o all_o thing_n to_o live_v upon_o though_o he_o shall_v have_v have_v no_o other_o come_n in_o of_o joy_n and_o delight_n from_o any_o creature_n and_o this_o be_v his_o natural_a inheritance_n but_o god_n have_v bestow_v upon_o he_o another_o capacity_n of_o glory_n and_o a_o revenue_n of_o pleasure_n to_o come_v in_o another_o way_n and_o answerable_o another_o for_o those_o his_o member_n or_o as_o the_o apostle_n express_v it_o from_o his_o fill_v they_o with_o all_o mercy_n grace_n comfort_n and_o felicity_n himself_o become_v yet_o more_o full_a by_o fill_v they_o and_o this_o be_v his_o inheritance_n also_o as_o that_o other_o be_v so_o as_o a_o double_a inheritance_n christ_n have_v to_o live_v upon_o one_o personal_a and_o due_a unto_o he_o as_o he_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n the_o first_o moment_n of_o his_o incarnation_n ere_o he_o have_v wrought_v any_o one_o piece_n of_o work_n towards_o our_o salvation_n another_o acquire_v purchase_v and_o merit_v by_o his_o have_v perform_v that_o great_a service_n and_o obedience_n and_o certain_o beside_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o person_n there_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o office_n of_o mediatorship_n and_o of_o headship_n to_o his_o church_n and_o though_o he_o be_v never_o so_o full_a of_o himself_o yet_o he_o despise_v not_o this_o part_n of_o his_o revenue_n that_o come_v in_o from_o below_o thus_o much_o for_o explication_n now_o second_o for_o the_o confirmation_n and_o make_v up_o the_o demonstration_n in_o hand_n this_o superadded_a glory_n and_o happiness_n of_o christ_n be_v enlarge_v and_o increase_v still_o as_o his_o member_n come_v to_o have_v the_o purchase_n of_o his_o death_n more_o and_o more_o lay_v forth_o upon_o they_o so_o as_o when_o their_o sin_n be_v pardon_v their_o heart_n more_o sanctify_v and_o their_o spirit_n comfort_v then_o come_v he_o to_o see_v the_o fruit_n of_o his_o labour_n and_o be_v comfort_v thereby_o for_o he_o be_v the_o more_o glorify_v by_o it_o yea_o he_o be_v much_o more_o please_v and_o rejoice_v in_o this_o than_o themselves_o can_v be_v and_o this_o must_v needs_o keep_v up_o in_o his_o heart_n his_o
