be_v still_o proud_a and_o malicious_a and_o quarrel_v take_v heed_n you_o can_v have_v these_o but_o you_o must_v have_v hell_n and_o all_o you_o can_v have_v these_o but_o you_o must_v have_v destruction_n and_o all_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n will_v be_v not_o abuse_v and_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n will_v not_o be_v provoke_v and_o god_n will_v be_v revenge_v of_o you_o and_o at_o last_o the_o heart_n by_o this_o mean_n will_v be_v trouble_v why_o deliver_v up_o your_o sin_n then_o and_o your_o soul_n if_o your_o heart_n find_v any_o sorrow_n and_o anguish_n why_o then_o yield_v up_o your_o soul_n unto_o christ_n that_o you_o may_v find_v as_o much_o comfort_n in_o a_o good_a way_n as_o you_o have_v do_v misery_n in_o a_o evil_a way_n thus_o by_o meditation_n make_v the_o heart_n see_v those_o evil_n nay_o thus_o by_o meditation_n make_v thy_o heart_n see_v those_o evil_n and_o the_o punishment_n that_o shall_v be_v execute_v for_o those_o evil_n second_o when_o you_o have_v salvation_n which_o be_v promise_v through_o he_o and_o shall_v be_v bestow_v upon_o all_o break_a heart_a sinner_n and_o mark_v what_o i_o say_v that_o soul_n that_o will_v not_o seek_v out_o to_o christ_n and_o will_v not_o be_v behold_v to_o christ_n for_o what_o he_o needâ—_n that_o soul_n want_v brokennesse_n of_o heart_n what_o ever_o he_o be_v that_o will_v not_o seek_v out_o to_o christ_n and_o go_v out_o of_o himself_o to_o another_o want_v brokennes_n and_o this_o stubbornness_n of_o he_o that_o he_o will_v not_o go_v to_o christ_n arise_v from_o some_o of_o these_o three_o ground_n first_o the_o soul_n will_v not_o go_v out_o it_o be_v because_o the_o heart_n think_v and_o presume_v it_o have_v no_o need_n of_o christ_n and_o therefore_o will_v not_o go_v but_o we_o will_v not_o meddle_v with_o that_o for_o that_o be_v proper_a to_o carnal_a man_n second_o if_o the_o soul_n will_v not_o seek_v out_o to_o christ_n for_o help_n and_o comfort_n it_o be_v because_o the_o heart_n be_v not_o content_a in_o good_a earnest_n to_o be_v rule_v by_o christ_n that_o christ_n shall_v come_v and_o take_v possession_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o do_v all_o therefore_o if_o the_o heart_n cling_v to_o corruption_n it_o be_v content_a that_o christ_n shall_v ease_v it_o but_o not_o that_o christ_n shall_v sanctify_v it_o and_o remove_v that_o corruption_n that_o have_v prevail_v over_o it_o and_o therefore_o when_o a_o man_n be_v under_o the_o sight_n of_o sin_n he_o will_v fain_o have_v god_n show_v mercy_n unto_o he_o and_o yet_o he_o will_v not_o pray_v nor_o read_v nor_o use_v the_o mean_n but_o dwell_v upon_o the_o meditation_n of_o his_o sin_n and_o neglect_v many_o ordinance_n of_o god_n whereby_o it_o may_v receive_v comfort_n this_o man_n will_v have_v a_o christ_n to_o quiet_v he_o but_o not_o to_o rule_v he_o and_o take_v possession_n of_o he_o and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o in_o these_o case_n the_o soul_n be_v never_o common_o kind_o strike_v these_o will_v fain_o have_v quiet_a and_o comfort_n use_v yet_o they_o will_v not_o be_v drive_v to_o holy_a duty_n nor_o be_v content_a that_o christ_n shall_v rule_v in_o they_o they_o be_v content_a to_o commit_v the_o sin_n but_o they_o will_v have_v pardon_n for_o it_o the_o three_o ground_n be_v this_o and_o the_o cunning_a of_o all_o and_o that_o be_v this_o provide_v the_o soul_n be_v content_a to_o be_v rule_v by_o the_o lord_n jesus_n and_o to_o submit_v unto_o he_o yet_o here_o be_v another_o deceit_n of_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o poor_a sinner_n that_o will_v join_v something_o with_o christ_n for_o the_o help_a of_o he_o in_o that_o great_a work_n of_o salvation_n and_o this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v the_o complaint_n of_o sinner_n and_o sometime_o break_a heart_a one_o too_o they_o dare_v not_o go_v to_o expect_v mercy_n from_o the_o lord_n jesus_n why_o why_o because_o they_o be_v unworthy_a so_o abominable_a their_o life_n so_o wretched_a their_o course_n that_o they_o dare_v not_o go_v to_o christ_n that_o he_o may_v show_v mercy_n to_o they_o i_o reason_v the_o point_n thus_o be_v it_o because_o of_o your_o unworthiness_n that_o you_o dare_v not_o go_v to_o christ_n so_o then_o if_o you_o have_v worthiness_n this_o will_v encourage_v you_o for_o to_o go_v why_o then_o you_o think_v christ_n be_v not_o able_a alone_o to_o help_v you_o but_o you_o will_v have_v your_o worthiness_n help_n christ_n to_o save_v you_o and_o so_o you_o will_v join_v with_o the_o lord_n jesus_n in_o this_o great_a price_n of_o salvation_n and_o redemption_n if_o your_o sin_n be_v but_o small_a and_o you_o have_v some_o worthiness_n that_o so_o christ_n may_v do_v something_o and_o your_o worthiness_n do_v something_o and_o so_o you_o may_v make_v up_o the_o price_n between_o you_o than_o you_o can_v be_v content_a to_o go_v to_o christ_n but_o otherwise_o you_o think_v you_o may_v not_o go_v to_o christ_n without_o some_o worthiness_n of_o your_o own_o again_o why_o then_o belike_o you_o 〈◊〉_d be_v behold_v to_o christ_n for_o so_o much_o mercy_n and_o so_o much_o grace_n and_o so_o much_o forgiveness_n one_o of_o these_o two_o must_v needs_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o this_o complaint_n either_o we_o will_v have_v our_o own_o worthiness_n join_v something_o with_o christ_n or_o else_o we_o be_v so_o vile_a that_o we_o will_v not_o be_v behold_v to_o christ_n for_o so_o much_o mercy_n but_o this_o unworthiness_n indeed_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o pride_n a_o man_n will_v not_o be_v behold_v to_o christ_n for_o so_o much_o mercy_n but_o he_o will_v share_v with_o christ_n in_o the_o matter_n of_o salvation_n or_o else_o he_o will_v not_o be_v partaker_n of_o the_o great_a work_n of_o redemption_n imagine_v a_o debtor_n be_v in_o prison_n and_o a_o friend_n send_v to_o he_o what_o ever_o the_o debt_n be_v if_o he_o will_v but_o come_v to_o he_o he_o will_v pay_v all_o the_o man_n return_v this_o answer_n if_o he_o have_v not_o such_o a_o great_a debt_n to_o pay_v he_o will_v be_v content_a to_o come_v to_o he_o but_o the_o truth_n be_v the_o debt_n be_v so_o great_a that_o he_o will_v not_o come_v to_o he_o nor_o trouble_v he_o now_o one_o of_o these_o two_o must_v needs_o follow_v either_o he_o think_v his_o friend_n be_v not_o able_a or_o willing_a to_o pay_v his_o debt_n or_o else_o in_o truth_n he_o will_v not_o be_v behold_v to_o he_o for_o so_o much_o but_o if_o the_o debt_n be_v a_o little_a one_o than_o he_o will_v make_v a_o shift_n to_o pay_v some_o and_o his_o friend_n some_o and_o so_o they_o will_v make_v up_o the_o debt_n between_o they_o so_o it_o be_v in_o this_o case_n this_o be_v that_o which_o keep_v the_o heart_n from_o lay_v hold_n on_o the_o promise_n they_o think_v they_o be_v unworthy_a to_o partake_v thereof_o which_o be_v nothing_o but_o pride_n of_o spirit_n for_o either_o they_o will_v bring_v something_o and_o share_v with_o christ_n in_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n or_o else_o they_o will_v not_o be_v behold_v to_o christ_n for_o so_o much_o mercy_n there_o be_v another_o shift_n which_o keep_v the_o heart_n from_o go_v to_o christ_n o_o faith_n one_o i_o never_o have_v my_o heart_n so_o break_v &_o affect_v as_o such_o a_o one_o have_v and_o therefore_o they_o dare_v not_o go_v to_o christ_n because_o they_o have_v not_o so_o much_o contrition_n their_o heart_n so_o much_o break_v as_o other_o have_v therefore_o they_o dare_v not_o go_v ay_o but_o be_v your_o soul_n content_a to_o go_v to_o christ_n and_o yield_v to_o he_o will_v you_o keep_v any_o corruption_n be_v there_o any_o sin_n which_o you_o will_v not_o have_v christ_n come_v and_o remove_v the_o soul_n answer_v that_o they_o will_v be_v content_a to_o resign_v all_o to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n but_o they_o be_v not_o so_o humble_v as_o other_o be_v i_o say_v the_o ground_n of_o this_o complaint_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o selfe-confidence_n in_o break_a heartedness_n for_o the_o soul_n be_v not_o content_a to_o have_v so_o much_o break_v heartedness_n as_o be_v sufficient_a to_o bring_v a_o man_n to_o christ_n but_o it_o will_v have_v so_o much_o as_o that_o it_o may_v bring_v a_o man_n to_o christ_n to_o help_v he_o in_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n they_o think_v iâ—_n be_v not_o enough_o to_o have_v the_o soul_n so_o humble_v as_o to_o submit_v to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n but_o they_o will_v have_v so_o much_o as_o they_o will_v join_v with_o christ_n in_o this_o great_a work_n which_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o carnal_a confidence_n therefore_o the_o conclusion_n be_v this_o so_o far_o see_v thy_o sin_n so_o far_o meditate_v upon_o thy_o sin_n and_o so_o far_o labour_v to_o have_v thy_o heart_n affect_v with_o thy_o sin_n and_o so_o far_o attend_v unto_o they_o that_o three_o thing_n may_v follow_v first_o that_o you_o may_v see_v a_o absolute_a necessity_n of_o christ_n and_o that_o thou_o may_v use_v all_o mean_n to_o seek_v unto_o he_o and_o never_o be_v quiet_a whilst_o thou_o find_v he_o nay_o while_o thou_o do_v use_v the_o mean_n but_o only_o upon_o the_o lord_n jesus_n pray_v and_o rest_v not_o in_o prayer_n but_o in_o a_o saviour_n that_o be_v obtain_v by_o prayer_n hear_v but_o rest_v not_o in_o hear_v but_o convey_v to_o thyself_o what_o be_v reveal_v in_o hear_v receive_v the_o sacrament_n but_o rest_v not_o in_o they_o but_o therein_o seek_v a_o saviour_n which_o be_v there_o sign_v this_o be_v the_o very_a stint_n
and_o pitch_n of_o meditation_n thus_o far_o see_v and_o affect_v and_o draw_v your_o heart_n to_o the_o consideration_n of_o your_o sin_n that_o the_o soul_n may_v be_v force_v to_o go_v to_o christ_n and_o use_v all_o mean_n to_o find_v he_o pray_v for_o a_o christ_n hear_v for_o a_o christ_n use_v all_o mean_n and_o see_v a_o need_n of_o a_o christ_n to_o bless_v thou_o in_o all_o thy_o service_n and_o see_v a_o need_n of_o a_o christ_n to_o pardon_v thy_o sin_n and_o then_o you_o take_v a_o right_a course_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o second_o passage_n now_o we_o see_v how_o to_o follow_v meditation_n home_o that_o the_o soul_n may_v be_v affect_v therewith_o and_o hold_v thereto_o ay_o but_o you_o will_v say_v our_o thought_n be_v dull_a and_o our_o meditation_n frail_a and_o our_o want_n heavy_a and_o little_a good_a we_o get_v by_o this_o meditation_n we_o fall_v to_o sin_n again_o how_o shall_v we_o come_v to_o get_v the_o life_n of_o meditation_n that_o it_o may_v be_v to_o we_o as_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v i_o answer_v the_o mean_n to_o make_v meditation_n powerful_a be_v two_o i_o confess_v after_o a_o man_n have_v muse_v and_o ponder_v it_o be_v possible_a that_o a_o corrupt_a heart_n may_v recoil_v and_o fall_v back_o again_o therefore_o there_o be_v two_o help_n to_o put_v more_o life_n into_o meditation_n first_o labour_v to_o call_v in_o the_o help_n and_o assistance_n of_o conscience_n that_o meditation_n may_v be_v more_o fruitful_a and_o powerful_a conscience_n be_v a_o great_a commander_n it_o be_v god_n vicegerent_n and_o chief_a officer_n and_o god_n be_v the_o general_a overseer_n of_o all_o the_o affair_n of_o the_o world_n but_o conscience_n have_v authority_n to_o execute_v judgement_n according_a to_o the_o sentence_n god_n have_v reveal_v and_o have_v a_o great_a command_n with_o the_o heart_n then_o bare_a meditation_n have_v understanding_n and_o reason_n be_v but_o the_o underling_n of_o the_o will_n &_o they_o be_v but_o servant_n &_o subject_n to_o the_o will_n and_o these_o only_o suggest_v and_o advise_v unto_o the_o will_n what_o be_v good_a as_o a_o servant_n may_v suggest_v to_o his_o master_n what_o be_v good_a and_o yet_o his_o master_n may_v take_v what_o he_o list_v &_o refuse_v what_o he_o please_v in_o this_o kind_n but_o conscience_n have_v a_o great_a command_n rom._n 2.15_o conscience_n be_v say_v to_o accuse_v or_o excuse_v a_o man_n and_o conscience_n come_v with_o a_o law_n and_o a_o command_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v 1._o john_n 3.20_o if_o our_o heart_n condemn_v we_o conscience_n make_v the_o heart_n to_o yield_v i_o compâ—â—e_v it_o thus_o look_v as_o it_o be_v happy_o with_o a_o man_n that_o be_v in_o debt_n if_o a_o man_n have_v a_o write_v out_o for_o he_o he_o be_v not_o trouble_v great_o with_o that_o he_o will_v not_o go_v to_o prison_n because_o of_o that_o nay_o though_o he_o show_v it_o he_o yet_o he_o will_v not_o go_v but_o if_o he_o bring_v the_o sergeanâ—â—o_o arrest_v he_o than_o he_o must_v go_v and_o and_o then_o he_o must_v be_v imprison_v whether_o he_o will_v or_o no_o so_o it_o be_v here_o meditation_n bring_v in_o the_o writ_n and_o show_v a_o man_n his_o sin_n lay_v open_v all_o his_o duty_n neglect_v so_o many_o hundred_o duty_n omit_v so_o many_o thousand_o sin_n commit_v so_o many_o profanation_n of_o sabbath_n so_o many_o oath_n so_o many_o blasphemy_n but_o the_o soul_n say_v what_o be_v this_o to_o i_o i_o have_v sin_v and_o other_o have_v sin_v and_o i_o shall_v do_v as_o well_o as_o other_o but_o conscience_n be_v a_o sergeant_n and_o sergeant_n do_v your_o office_n these_o be_v your_o sin_n and_o as_o you_o will_v answer_v it_o at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n take_v heed_n of_o those_o sin_n upon_o pain_n of_o everlasting_a ruin_n when_o conscience_n begin_v thus_o to_o arrest_v a_o man_n than_o the_o heart_n come_v and_o give_v way_n to_o the_o truth_n reveal_v and_o conscience_n thus_o settle_v it_o upon_o the_o heart_n the_o second_o mean_n whereby_o meditation_n may_v get_v power_n upon_o the_o soul_n be_v this_o we_o must_v cry_v &_o crave_v and_o call_v for_o the_o spirit_n of_o humiliation_n and_o contrition_n that_o god_n by_o that_o bless_a spirit_n of_o he_o which_o in_o scripture_n be_v call_v the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n will_v set_v to_o his_o help_a hand_n &_o assist_v conscience_n his_o officer_n &_o take_v the_o matter_n into_o his_o own_o hand_n and_o because_o there_o be_v many_o rebellious_a corruption_n that_o oppose_v god_n truth_n we_o must_v call_v to_o heaven_n for_o help_v that_o god_n will_v seize_v upon_o the_o heart_n and_o break_v it_o a_o perverse_a heart_n will_v line_v the_o judgement_n and_o say_v i_o will_v have_v my_o sin_n though_o i_o be_v damn_v for_o they_o and_o when_o conscience_n come_v and_o say_v i_o will_v bear_v witness_n against_o you_o for_o your_o pride_n and_o covetousness_n and_o profaneness_n they_o resist_v conscience_n look_v as_o it_o be_v if_o a_o sergeant_n arrest_v a_o man_n he_o may_v escape_v his_o hand_n or_o kill_v the_o sergeant_n but_o if_o the_o sheriff_n or_o the_o king_n himself_o come_v &_o take_v the_o prisoner_n in_o hand_n than_o he_o must_v go_v to_o prison_n whether_o he_o will_v or_o no_o so_o it_o be_v here_o though_o a_o corrupt_a heart_n can_v stop_v conscience_n stay_v conscience_n yet_o there_o be_v a_o command_a power_n of_o god_n spirit_n the_o spirit_n of_o humiliation_n and_o when_o god_n come_v from_o heaven_n to_o aid_v his_o officer_n the_o heart_n must_v stoop_v and_o be_v govern_v look_v as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o child_n that_o be_v under_o government_n his_o father_n perhaps_o bid_v the_o servant_n correct_v he_o now_o it_o be_v admirable_a to_o see_v how_o the_o child_n will_v taunt_v with_o the_o servant_n and_o struggle_v with_o he_o mighty_o now_o when_o the_o father_n hear_v this_o he_o say_v give_v i_o the_o rod_n and_o he_o tell_v the_o child_n you_o will_v not_o be_v whip_v but_o i_o will_v scourge_v you_o and_o he_o will_v set_v it_o home_o and_o plague_v he_o so_o much_o the_o more_o because_o he_o resist_v the_o servant_n so_o it_o be_v here_o the_o lord_n have_v reveal_v his_o will_n and_o send_v his_o minister_n to_o discover_v your_o sin_n and_o verrifie_v your_o heart_n it_o be_v strange_a to_o see_v what_o resistance_n we_o find_v one_o scorn_v to_o hear_v and_o rebel_n against_o the_o minister_n well_o however_o the_o voice_n of_o the_o minister_n or_o the_o word_n can_v make_v the_o blow_n fall_v heavy_a enough_o for_o the_o time_n yet_o if_o the_o lord_n take_v the_o rod_n into_o his_o own_o hand_n he_o will_v make_v the_o stout_a stomach_n stoop_v and_o the_o hard_a heart_n come_v in_o when_o the_o father_n take_v the_o rod_n into_o his_o hand_n and_o let_v in_o hell_n fire_n he_o will_v set_v it_o home_o take_v it_o off_o who_o will_n or_o can_v the_o apostle_n call_v it_o the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n and_o observe_v the_o place_n 8.15_o when_o the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n come_v then_o come_v fear_n the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n be_v say_v to_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o fear_n as_o who_o shall_v say_v the_o lord_n show_v a_o man_n his_o bondage_n by_o the_o almighty_a power_n of_o his_o spirit_n and_o will_v make_v the_o soul_n feel_v it_o and_o stoop_v unto_o when_o conscience_n have_v do_v his_o duty_n and_o yet_o his_o mouth_n be_v stop_v than_o the_o lord_n himself_o come_v and_o however_o the_o word_n by_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o ministry_n can_v not_o prevail_v yet_o god_n will_v set_v the_o sun-light_n of_o his_o spirit_n to_o your_o soul_n and_o then_o you_o shall_v see_v your_o sin_n and_o stoop_v under_o they_o when_o a_o man_n will_v cut_v off_o the_o sense_n of_o sin_n yet_o where_o ever_o he_o be_v and_o what_o ever_o he_o do_v the_o lord_n present_v his_o sin_n to_o he_o when_o he_o go_v in_o the_o way_n he_o read_v his_o sin_n in_o the_o path_n when_o he_o be_v at_o meat_n his_o sin_n be_v before_o he_o when_o he_o go_v to_o lie_v down_o he_o go_v to_o read_v
now_o he_o see_v what_o it_o be_v to_o depart_v from_o a_o bless_a and_o a_o pure_a god_n o_o then_o he_o will_v be_v drink_v and_o unclean_a and_o malicious_a no_o more_o because_o the_o heart_n be_v weary_a of_o it_o and_o be_v content_a to_o part_v with_o it_o from_o hence_o i_o reason_v thus_o true_a draw_v be_v ever_o accompany_v with_o true_a believe_a but_o this_o sense_n of_o sin_n in_o execute_v or_o threaten_v he_o confess_v no_o more_o than_o may_v procure_v his_o case_n he_o desire_v not_o so_o much_o to_o have_v his_o corruption_n remove_v as_o to_o be_v free_v from_o horror_n hypocrite_n and_o therefore_o a_o hypocrite_n will_v scum_n over_o all_o his_o confession_n his_o talk_n will_v be_v a_o hundred_o mile_n from_o his_o sin_n he_o never_o come_v to_o that_o main_a sin_n which_o keep_v his_o heart_n from_o god_n and_o it_o be_v remarkable_a one_o man_n complain_v he_o be_v trouble_v with_o wander_a thought_n in_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o his_o soul_n be_v take_v aside_o with_o strange_a distemper_n but_o follow_v that_o soul_n home_o and_o you_o shall_v common_o find_v some_o base_a corruption_n that_o take_v up_o his_o heart_n and_o another_o man_n complain_v of_o his_o hard_a heart_n it_o stir_v not_o at_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o god_n judgement_n do_v not_o melt_v he_o when_o yet_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n he_o nourish_v that_o pride_n and_o selfe-uncleannesse_n that_o be_v the_o cause_n thereof_o and_o there_o be_v many_o beside_o these_o as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o dog_n he_o do_v not_o gorge_v up_o his_o meat_n because_o he_o loathe_v it_o but_o because_o his_o stomach_n be_v trouble_v with_o it_o and_o therefore_o when_o his_o pain_n be_v over_o he_o take_v it_o with_o greediness_n again_o so_o it_o be_v with_o a_o hypocrite_n his_o heart_n be_v burden_a with_o extreme_a sorrow_n and_o therefore_o he_o throw_v out_o so_o much_o as_o do_v trouble_v and_o gall_n his_o conscience_n and_o may_v work_v he_o some_o ease_n but_o afterward_o he_o return_v to_o it_o again_o and_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o we_o have_v so_o many_o revolter_n and_o backeslider_n after_o such_o open_a confession_n they_o confess_v only_o to_o ease_v themselves_o of_o the_o horror_n and_o therefore_o when_o the_o horror_n be_v go_v they_o fall_v to_o their_o old_a sin_n again_o whereas_o a_o sound_n christian_n do_v confess_v his_o sin_n only_o from_o the_o loathsomnesse_n of_o it_o three_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v true_o break_v make_v confession_n with_o a_o inward_a resolution_n never_o to_o meddle_v with_o sin_n any_o more_o yet_o all_o this_o while_n the_o soul_n be_v full_a of_o fear_n and_o suspicion_n for_o fear_n of_o fall_v into_o those_o sin_n again_o therefore_o it_o desire_v rather_o to_o discover_v itself_o by_o desire_n and_o wish_n than_o any_o confidence_n in_o itself_o and_o therefore_o the_o soul_n say_v o_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v once_o give_v i_o power_n against_o these_o corruption_n oh_o how_o happy_a shall_v i_o be_v but_o alas_o i_o have_v no_o power_n of_o myself_o the_o soul_n be_v willing_a to_o fling_v itself_o into_o the_o arm_n of_o god_n mercy_n and_o to_o against_o his_o corruption_n whereas_o the_o hypocrite_n that_o be_v in_o fear_n of_o some_o judgement_n and_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n have_v seize_v upon_o his_o soul_n that_o he_o may_v get_v ease_n will_v promise_v any_o thing_n and_o be_v marvellous_a open_a and_o yet_o confident_a in_o himself_o and_o say_v if_o god_n will_v give_v i_o health_n and_o raise_v i_o up_o again_o all_o the_o world_n shall_v see_v i_o will_v be_v a_o new_a man_n and_o they_o shall_v see_v how_o holy_a and_o how_o careful_a and_o how_o exact_a i_o will_v be_v yet_o poor_a soul_n when_o he_o be_v out_o of_o his_o trouble_n he_o return_v to_o his_o vomit_n &_o be_v worse_o than_o before_o and_o so_o much_o the_o worse_o because_o he_o have_v make_v a_o open_a confession_n as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o debtor_n a_o honest_a man_n come_v free_o &_o do_v acknowledge_v his_o debâ—_n and_o desire_v the_o creditor_n to_o satisfy_v himself_o with_o his_o body_n and_o good_n he_o desire_v he_o may_v be_v no_o loser_n by_o he_o he_o suspect_v he_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o pay_v he_o but_o he_o hope_v so_o far_o as_o he_o be_v able_a to_o give_v he_o content_a but_o another_o cunning_a mate_n promise_v to_o pay_v all_o if_o he_o will_v give_v he_o further_o day_n but_o intend_v no_o such_o matter_n just_o so_o it_o be_v with_o a_o soul_n that_o be_v true_o break_v for_o sin_n he_o lay_v himself_o in_o god_n presence_n and_o refer_v himself_o into_o god_n hand_n and_o say_v the_o truth_n be_v lord_n i_o know_v this_o proud_a corrupt_a heart_n of_o i_o will_v not_o yield_v it_o will_v deceive_v i_o i_o be_o afraid_a i_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o walk_v holy_o take_v this_o heart_n of_o i_o and_o do_v what_o thou_o will_v with_o it_o only_o purge_v out_o my_o sin_n and_o call_v to_o confess_v his_o sin_n to_o a_o faithful_a minister_n indeed_o a_o man_n may_v confess_v they_o to_o a_o faithful_a christian_a but_o it_o be_v god_n ordinance_n to_o confess_v they_o to_o a_o faithful_a minister_n not_o that_o a_o minister_n can_v pardon_v his_o sin_n but_o only_o to_o declare_v when_o he_o be_v fit_v and_o to_o apply_v mercy_n according_o it_o be_v not_o a_o matter_n of_o compliment_n but_o a_o duty_n command_v it_o be_v in_o this_o case_n with_o the_o soul_n as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o man_n body_n he_o that_o be_v able_a by_o his_o own_o skill_n and_o his_o kitchen-physic_n to_o â—ure_v himself_o have_v no_o need_n to_o seek_v to_o the_o physician_n but_o if_o it_o be_v beyond_o his_o own_o skill_n and_o if_o kitchen-physic_n will_v do_v no_o good_a than_o he_o be_v bind_v to_o seek_v out_o to_o a_o physician_n unless_o he_o will_v be_v his_o own_o murderer_n it_o be_v just_a so_o with_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o man_n that_o be_v sorrowful_a for_o sin_n when_o he_o have_v conscionable_o use_v all_o mean_n and_o yet_o his_o closet_n prayer_n and_o his_o closet_n fasting_n will_v not_o do_v the_o deed_n than_o he_o be_v bind_v to_o seek_v out_o to_o a_o faithful_a minister_n for_o he_o be_v the_o physician_n that_o god_n have_v appoint_v whereby_o all_o the_o sickness_n of_o the_o soul_n

you_o can_v not_o find_v out_o and_o he_o will_v lay_v open_a all_o those_o hold_v of_o satan_n and_o that_o mean_v of_o comfort_n that_o you_o never_o know_v i_o be_o able_a to_o speak_v it_o by_o experience_n this_o have_v break_v the_o neck_n of_o many_o a_o soul_n even_o because_o he_o will_v go_v out_o in_o single_a combat_n against_o satan_n and_o do_v what_o he_o can_v not_o reveal_v himself_o to_o other_o for_o help_n be_v overthrow_v for_o ever_o as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o impostume_a part_n of_o a_o man_n body_n when_o a_o man_n let_v out_o some_o of_o the_o corrupt_a matter_n and_o so_o skin_v it_o never_o heal_v it_o to_o the_o bottom_n at_o last_o it_o canker_n inward_o and_o come_v to_o a_o gangrene_n and_o the_o part_n must_v be_v cut_v off_o or_o else_o a_o man_n be_v in_o danger_n of_o his_o life_n so_o when_o you_o let_v out_o some_o corruption_n by_o a_o overly_o confession_n but_o suffer_v some_o bosom_n lust_n to_o remain_v still_o as_o malice_n or_o uncleanness_n etc._n etc._n then_o the_o soul_n canker_n and_o satan_n take_v possession_n of_o it_o and_o the_o soul_n be_v carry_v into_o fearful_a abomination_n many_o have_v fall_v foul_o and_o live_v long_o in_o their_o sin_n and_o all_o because_o they_o will_v not_o confess_v free_o therefore_o as_o you_o desire_v to_o find_v out_o the_o deceitfulness_n of_o your_o corruption_n confess_v they_o from_o the_o bottom_n of_o your_o soul_n three_o 3._o this_o open_a and_o free_a confession_n may_v maintain_v the_o secrecy_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o the_o only_a way_n to_o have_v a_o man_n
