hypocrisy_n pride_n and_o self-will_n rule_v as_o it_o will_v himself_o and_o as_o if_o there_o be_v no_o power_n to_o restrain_v this_o flood_n of_o ungodliness_n i_o but_o dear_a friend_n know_v that_o all_o this_o power_n of_o temptation_n which_o you_o see_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o malice_n and_o hypocrisy_n it_o be_v not_o their_o own_o power_n but_o god_n power_n or_o the_o dispensation_n of_o visible_a wrath_n which_o god_n have_v put_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o that_o evil_a spirit_n for_o a_o time_n it_o be_v not_o his_o own_o absolute_o but_o it_o be_v a_o limit_a power_n and_o time_n 23._o and_o this_o speak_v great_a comfort_n to_o the_o saint_n for_o god_n will_v bring_v good_a out_o of_o all_o this_o god_n our_o god_n and_o father_n stand_v and_o look_v on_o and_o the_o end_n of_o all_o this_o hurly-burly_n will_v bring_v everlasting_a glory_n to_o the_o father_n in_o and_o through_o his_o saint_n and_o everlasting_a shame_n and_o ruin_n to_o the_o devil_n therefore_o be_v not_o trouble_v you_o saint_n of_o the_o most_o high_a though_o you_o be_v hate_v reproach_v and_o persecute_v for_o if_o you_o will_v see_v satan_n head_n bruise_v you_o must_v first_o suffer_v your_o heel_n to_o be_v bruise_v by_o his_o temptation_n so_o that_o reason_n tell_v you_o that_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n that_o the_o devil_n shall_v enjoy_v a_o limit_a time_n and_o power_n well_o god_n himself_o suffer_v most_o in_o these_o time_n for_o though_o satan_n get_v a_o power_n to_o try_v and_o tempt_v the_o saint_n and_o to_o trouble_v the_o world_n yet_o the_o envy_n of_o the_o flesh_n principal_o strike_v at_o god_n for_o pride_n fight_v against_o humility_n malice_n fight_v against_o love_n falsehood_n fight_v against_o sincerity_n ignorance_n fight_v against_o knowledge_n self-will_n in_o flesh_n fight_v against_o the_o king_n of_o glory_n the_o pure_a spirit_n that_o dwell_v in_o flesh_n so_o that_o god_n himself_o be_v the_o sufferer_n but_o that_o satan_n or_o father_n of_o lie_n shoot_v at_o and_o the_o father_n suffer_v it_o thus_o to_o be_v and_o limit_n he_o a_o power_n thus_o to_o fight_v against_o he_o that_o in_o conclusion_n he_o may_v send_v forth_o the_o brightness_n of_o his_o law_n and_o bruise_v satan_n head_n by_o his_o own_o weapon_n and_o judge_n and_o condemn_v he_o by_o the_o word_n of_o his_o own_o mouth_n and_o work_n of_o his_o own_o hand_n 36._o and_o swallow_v up_o that_o spirit_n of_o envy_n and_o darkness_n into_o himself_o the_o spirit_n of_o love_n which_o be_v the_o power_n of_o god_n yea_o god_n himself_o and_o so_o take_v he_o out_o of_o the_o way_n that_o trouble_v his_o saint_n that_o they_o may_v rest_v and_o lie_v down_o sweet_o in_o he_o and_o to_o have_v no_o troubler_n at_o all_o to_o trouble_v they_o when_o this_o accuser_n be_v once_o cast_v out_o of_o heaven_n the_o saint_n in_o all_o their_o affliction_n look_v upon_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n that_o smite_v they_o 21._o as_o job_n do_v but_o unbeliever_n that_o live_v after_o the_o flesh_n think_v it_o be_v the_o devil_n power_n and_o not_o god_n chap._n iii_o now_o this_o adverse_a power_n which_o man_n ready_o think_v be_v the_o devil_n power_n distinct_a from_o god_n as_o though_o god_n have_v no_o hand_n in_o it_o appear_v to_o i_o to_o be_v the_o very_a power_n of_o god_n in_o a_o immediate_a dispensation_n of_o wrath_n upon_o the_o sinner_n and_o that_o which_o we_o call_v devil_n that_o terrify_v be_v but_o the_o declaration_n of_o the_o rigour_n of_o the_o righteous_a law_n of_o god_n lay_v hold_n upon_o the_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o the_o creature_n which_o the_o sinner_n can_v look_v upon_o and_o live_v for_o if_o god_n look_v upon_o any_o creature_n through_o the_o righteous_a law_n which_o the_o creature_n man_n have_v go_v astray_o from_o he_o can_v live_v but_o when_o the_o law_n of_o love_n have_v swallow_v that_o law_n of_o work_n that_o require_v perfection_n from_o the_o creature_n than_o the_o brightness_n and_o power_n of_o that_o love_n shine_v upon_o the_o heart_n and_o change_v the_o man_n in_o to_o the_o same_o nature_n and_o glory_n make_v he_o able_a to_o behold_v god_n and_o live_v yea_o and_o to_o live_v joyful_o too_o both_o in_o he_o and_o before_o he_o but_o let_v i_o not_o digress_v too_o far_o the_o adverse_a power_n speak_v of_o be_v the_o very_a dispensation_n of_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n upon_o sinner_n and_o there_o be_v one_o scripture_n do_v countenance_v this_o 24._o which_o be_v this_o so_o he_o drive_v out_o the_o man_n and_o for_o time_n be_v come_v that_o every_o one_o must_v be_v teach_v of_o god_n and_o this_o trouble_v he_o very_o much_o well_o all_o these_o trouble_n and_o such_o like_a proceed_v from_o the_o shine_n forth_o of_o the_o righteous_a law_n upon_o the_o proud_a heart_n and_o he_o can_v bear_v it_o because_o he_o seek_v himself_o more_o than_o god_n the_o unbelief_n of_o the_o heart_n live_v by_o sense_n upon_o the_o creature_n the_o law_n of_o god_n tell_v the_o heart_n he_o must_v trust_v god_n and_o not_o man_n and_o though_o all_o sense_n fail_v he_o from_o man_n and_o creature_n yet_o to_o wait_v upon_o god_n but_o this_o trouble_v he_o he_o can_v wait_v and_o if_o he_o do_v wait_v he_o question_v whether_o he_o shall_v have_v such_o thing_n he_o be_v bid_v to_o wait_v for_o and_o the_o poor_a heart_n lie_v under_o great_a toss_n again_o in_o his_o course_n of_o trade_v in_o the_o world_n if_o he_o ask_v sometime_o too_o little_a or_o sometime_o too_o much_o for_o his_o ware_n than_o he_o be_v trouble_v and_o do_v what_o he_o can_v his_o heart_n be_v trouble_v because_o he_o think_v he_o may_v have_v do_v better_o when_o business_n go_v cross_a to_o his_o mind_n he_o be_v trouble_v whether_o it_o be_v fair_a weather_n or_o fowl_n if_o it_o be_v not_o just_a to_o his_o mind_n he_o be_v trouble_v then_o appear_v pride_n covetousness_n frowardness_n uncleaness_n spring_v up_o in_o his_o heart_n and_o these_o trouble_v he_o if_o he_o can_v speak_v for_o god_n when_o other_o speak_v against_o he_o as_o he_o think_v than_o he_o be_v trouble_v if_o he_o do_v speak_v of_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n than_o his_o heart_n tell_v he_o he_o be_v a_o hypocrite_n or_o self-lover_n and_o then_o he_o be_v trouble_v so_o that_o there_o arise_v not_o a_o thought_n in_o his_o heart_n but_o there_o be_v some_o fret_n or_o trouble_v tie_v to_o it_o and_o what_o be_v all_o these_o and_o such_o like_a but_o even_o a_o legion_n of_o devil_n or_o troubler_n that_o hold_v the_o creature_n under_o bondage_n and_o torment_v he_o thus_o in_o hell_n day_n and_o night_n i_o call_v it_o a_o hell_n for_o it_o be_v a_o condition_n of_o darkness_n below_o the_o life_n comfort_n and_o peace_n of_o god_n all_o these_o be_v wrought_v in_o the_o soul_n by_o the_o righteous_a law_n for_o the_o creature_n strive_v to_o be_v wise_a and_o the_o law_n prove_v he_o a_o fool_n he_o will_v fain_o be_v righteous_a and_o the_o light_n of_o the_o law_n show_v he_o he_o be_v a_o wicked_a hypocrite_n he_o will_v fain_o have_v faith_n and_o holiness_n in_o he_o and_o the_o law_n show_v he_o he_o be_v a_o unbelieving_a sinner_n he_o will_v fain_o enjoy_v the_o peace_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o enjoy_v himself_o too_o the_o law_n tell_v he_o he_o must_v deny_v himself_o and_o take_v up_o his_o cross_n daily_o if_o he_o will_v enjoy_v god_n he_o will_v fain_o be_v count_v some_o body_n for_o wisdom_n faith_n prayer_n preach_v the_o law_n tell_v he_o all_o be_v as_o good_a as_o nothing_o because_o he_o go_v forth_o in_o his_o own_o strength_n and_o the_o power_n of_o the_o father_n be_v absent_a and_o thus_o the_o law_n be_v that_o flame_a sword_n which_o turn_v every_o way_n upon_o the_o sinner_n and_o scorch_v the_o poor_a imprison_a soul_n in_o every_o thought_n of_o his_o heart_n 18._o burn_v up_o his_o pride_n and_o self-conceit_n so_o that_o the_o righteous_a law_n reign_v like_o a_o tyrant_n in_o 2._o and_o over_o the_o poor_a prisoner_n and_o while_o the_o soul_n be_v thus_o torment_v by_o the_o dispensation_n of_o wrath_n the_o envious_a spirit_n of_o darkness_n that_o rule_v in_o other_o man_n delight_n to_o see_v this_o poor_a creature_n thus_o under_o bondage_n and_o so_o cast_v jeer_n slander_n reproach_n and_o hard_a usage_n upon_o he_o envy_n rejoice_v in_o other_o misery_n even_o as_o love_n rejoice_v in_o the_o liberty_n and_o life_n of_o other_o but_o poor_a soul_n know_v this_o that_o god_n be_v burn_v up_o thy_o dross_n and_o ere_o long_o will_v set_v thou_o at_o liberty_n and_o the_o fire_n of_o love_n that_o burn_v in_o thou_o will_v break_v forth_o to_o thy_o comfort_n and_o then_o he_o will_v give_v thou_o power_n to_o rejoice_v over_o the_o devil_n 13._o and_o to_o set_v thy_o foot_n upon_o his_o neck_n as_o a_o conquer_a slave_n even_o as_o he_o make_v thou_o his_o slave_n now_o then_o second_o this_o same_o imprison_a creature_n that_o lie_v under_o the_o law_n be_v as_o yet_o not_o set_v free_a by_o the_o son_n meet_v with_o many_o trouble_n without_o and_o these_o be_v but_o dispensation_n of_o wrath_n as_o the_o other_o be_v likewise_o as_o sickness_n frown_v of_o friend_n hatred_n of_o man_n loss_n of_o his_o estate_n by_o fire_n water_n be_v cheat_v by_o false_a spirit_a man_n death_n of_o his_o cattle_n or_o many_o such_o like_a casualty_n whereby_o he_o become_v poor_a in_o the_o world_n and_o meet_v with_o many_o strait_n as_o hard_a language_n hungry_a belly_n to_o be_v despise_v imprison_a and_o abundance_n of_o such_o provocation_n in_o the_o world_n and_o it_o may_v be_v meet_v with_o fearful_a apparition_n in_o the_o night_n or_o day_n that_o terrify_v he_o as_o it_o be_v job_n case_n he_o be_v fill_v with_o terror_n in_o the_o night_n sometime_o these_o trouble_n lie_v within_o a_o man_n spirit_n in_o grief_n and_o sadpressure_n and_o inward_a burn_n of_o trouble_n and_o torment_n which_o no_o man_n be_v sensible_a of_o but_o himself_o and_o sometime_o it_o break_v forth_o in_o bitter_a word_n and_o speech_n through_o oppression_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o the_o disturbance_n of_o other_o and_o this_o be_v call_v madness_n or_o distraction_n which_o grow_v upon_o a_o man_n when_o the_o pure_a law_n do_v cross_v his_o carnal_a imagination_n wilful_a will_n pride_n covetous_a or_o lustful_a desire_n than_o do_v the_o distemper_n of_o his_o trouble_a spirit_n break_v out_o but_o when_o christ_n come_v and_o set_v he_o free_a etc._n than_o he_o come_v to_o truth_n but_o if_o thou_o can_v believe_v 45._o but_o yet_o remain_v trouble_v he_o that_o feel_v the_o sweetness_n of_o such_o a_o work_n of_o god_n know_v it_o to_o be_v a_o truth_n wait_v upon_o god_n as_o thy_o fellow_n servant_n do_v for_o his_o pure_a teach_n and_o thou_o will_v find_v he_o the_o same_o to_o thou_o as_o he_o be_v to_o another_o paul_n write_v of_o one_o that_o be_v in_o christ_n before_o he_o and_o so_o though_o thou_o wade_v through_o flame_n of_o fire_n to_o embrace_v god_n in_o thy_o arm_n thy_o comfort_n will_v be_v the_o sweet_a thy_o experience_n the_o more_o
