when_o i_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n i_o come_v to_o set_v myself_o before_o the_o lord_n in_o those_o way_n that_o god_n do_v let_v out_o the_o choice_n of_o his_o mercy_n to_o his_o people_n in_o i_o have_v many_o mercy_n from_o god_n in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o the_o creature_n but_o when_o i_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o i_o expect_v the_o communication_n of_o his_o mercy_n in_o another_o way_n then_o through_o any_o creature_n in_o the_o world_n the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n be_v the_o chief_n chamnel_n that_o god_n do_v let_v out_o the_o choice_a of_o his_o mercy_n to_o the_o it_o have_v offend_v he_o and_o so_o it_o be_v with_o a_o guilty_a conscience_n when_o it_o be_v conscious_a to_o its_o self_n of_o some_o haunt_n of_o evil_n that_o it_o have_v give_v itself_o unto_o that_o will_v come_v so_o nigh_o god_n presence_n and_o come_v with_o base_a and_o ungodly_a heart_n to_o cloak_v their_o villainy_n of_o all_o in_o the_o world_n they_o must_v expect_v to_o have_v the_o severe_a vengeance_n of_o god_n let_v down_o upon_o they_o they_o that_o stand_v nigh_a the_o bullet_n must_v expect_v to_o have_v the_o strength_n of_o it_o to_o be_v the_o more_o upon_o they_o head_n all_o that_o i_o shall_v speak_v about_o the_o open_n of_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n will_v be_v contain_v at_o this_o time_n i_o shall_v only_o speak_v to_o the_o first_o the_o due_a preparation_n of_o the_o soul_n unto_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n therein_o consist_v a_o special_a part_n of_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o draw_v nigh_o to_o he_o and_o that_o it_o be_v so_o we_o find_v it_o in_o scripture_n that_o preparation_n for_o worship_n it_o be_v call_v the_o sanctify_a of_o ourselves_o and_o by_o find_v this_o in_o scripture_n it_o hint_v i_o upon_o this_o head_n to_o speak_v of_o the_o preparation_n unto_o worship_n in_o our_o sanctify_a god_n name_v because_o i_o find_v in_o scripture_n that_o the_o sanctify_a ourselves_o for_o worship_n and_o the_o preparation_n of_o ourselves_o for_o worship_n be_v all_o one_o i_o will_v give_v you_o these_o two_o text_n in_o 1_o sam._n 16.5_o you_o shall_v find_v there_o that_o samuel_n when_o he_o be_v be_v preparation_n to_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n for_o first_o that_o god_n that_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n be_v a_o great_a and_o glorious_a god_n and_o we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o such_o a_o observable_a be_v why_o they_o be_v for_o two_o day_n together_o to_o make_v such_o preparation_n the_o argument_n be_v because_o of_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n the_o lord_n say_v to_o moses_n go_v and_o sanctify_v the_o people_n tâ—_n day_n and_o to_o morrow_n and_o let_v they_o wash_v their_o clothes_n and_o be_v ready_a against_o the_o three_o dayâ—_n why_o for_o the_o lord_n will_v come_v in_o chr._n 22.5.14_o david_n make_v preparation_n for_o the_o house_n of_o god_n because_o it_o be_v the_o house_n of_o god_n that_o he_o have_v to_o build_v though_o he_o can_v not_o do_v it_o himself_o in_o his_o own_o time_n yet_o be_v the_o house_n of_o god_n what_o great_a preparation_n be_v make_v by_o david_n the_o moral_a of_o which_o be_v this_o that_o the_o house_n of_o god_n be_v a_o type_n of_o the_o church_n and_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n as_o well_o as_o of_o christ_n it_o show_v that_o there_o shall_v be_v much_o preparation_n when_o we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o his_o ordinance_n second_o as_o god_n be_v great_a that_o we_o draw_v nigh_o to_o so_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n be_v great_a duty_n they_o be_v the_o great_a thing_n that_o do_v concern_v we_o in_o this_o world_n and_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n of_o a_o very_a carnal_a heart_n to_o slight_v the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n to_o make_v account_n of_o they_o as_o little_a matter_n carnal_a heart_n ordinary_o the_o thing_n that_o concern_v their_o business_n in_o the_o world_n they_o think_v great_a matter_n oh_o i_o may_v not_o neglect_v that_o i_o may_v not_o neglect_v that_o i_o may_v not_o neglect_v such_o a_o business_n or_o i_o may_v not_o neglect_v to_o visit_v or_o gratify_v such_o a_o friend_n but_o now_o for_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n it_o be_v good_a indeed_o but_o whether_o it_o be_v do_v or_o not_o it_o be_v no_o great_a maâ—ter_n therefore_o they_o can_v put_v off_o prayer_n if_o they_o have_v any_o business_n the_o time_n of_o prayer_n must_v pay_v for_o it_o they_o can_v put_v off_o that_o upon_o any_o slight_a occasion_n they_o do_v not_o account_v the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_v great_a matter_n my_o brethren_n i_o beseech_v you_o learn_v see_v what_o the_o lord_n say_v of_o jehoshaphat_n that_o be_v godly_a nevertheless_o there_o be_v good_a thing_n find_v in_o thou_o in_o that_o thou_o have_v take_v away_o the_o grove_n out_o of_o the_o land_n and_o have_v prepare_v thy_o heart_n to_o seek_v god_n jehoshaphat_n be_v find_v guilty_a in_o join_v himself_o to_o wicked_a man_n too_o much_o the_o prophet_n come_v and_o say_v to_o need_n look_v to_o their_o heart_n they_o shall_v spend_v some_o time_n in_o preparation_n when_o they_o come_v to_o holy_a duty_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v when_o the_o conscience_n of_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n be_v at_o first_o enlighten_v and_o awaken_v they_o will_v be_v very_o careful_a in_o prepare_v to_o holy_a duty_n the_o fear_n of_o god_n it_o be_v mighty_a upon_o their_o spirit_n at_o first_o and_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v less_o afterward_o the_o constancy_n of_o god_n fear_v shall_v bring_v their_o heart_n to_o such_o a_o holy_a temper_n as_o to_o make_v they_o fit_a for_o holy_a they_o find_v their_o heart_n to_o be_v in_o at_o this_o time_n now_o if_o it_o be_v so_o with_o thou_o it_o be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o thy_o heart_n may_v be_v upright_o with_o god_n though_o through_o infirmity_n it_o come_v at_o such_o a_o time_n to_o be_v unprepared_a for_o the_o duty_n but_o yet_o suppose_v i_o find_v i_o be_o not_o prepare_v i_o be_o grieve_v and_o trouble_v at_o it_o for_o that_o must_v be_v premise_v whether_o be_v i_o better_a to_o leave_v the_o duty_n for_o this_o time_n than_o to_o fall_v upon_o it_o in_o such_o a_o unpreparation_n as_o this_o be_v now_o for_o the_o answer_n to_o this_o question_n 1_o first_o that_o which_o i_o will_v answer_v to_o it_o be_v this_o the_o omission_n of_o a_o duty_n or_o the_o lay_n of_o a_o duty_n aside_o will_v never_o not_o make_v the_o soul_n fit_a for_o a_o duty_n afterward_o â—â—erefore_o it_o be_v no_o wisdom_n to_o forbear_v a_o duty_n for_o want_n of_o preparation_n because_o the_o forbearance_n will_v never_o help_v to_o further_a preparation_n but_o will_v make_v the_o soul_n more_o unfit_a for_o duty_n it_o be_v a_o excellent_a speech_n that_o i_o read_v that_o luther_n have_v concern_v himself_o i_o have_v learn_v this_o by_o experience_n that_o the_o often_o i_o do_v omit_v duty_n the_o often_o do_v i_o make_v myself_o the_o more_o unfit_a for_o duty_n and_o cause_n i_o have_v to_o abhor_v myself_o it_o be_v not_o the_o defer_v that_o make_v thou_o the_o more_o fit_a 2_o therefore_o consider_v that_o this_o be_v but_o a_o temptation_n and_o that_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n that_o i_o will_v propound_v to_o those_o that_o shall_v omit_v a_o duty_n because_o they_o be_v not_o prepare_v that_o this_o be_v but_o a_o temptation_n to_o keep_v thou_o from_o it_o to_o tell_v thou_o that_o thou_o be_v not_o prepare_v and_o if_o thou_o shall_v forbear_v it_o because_o thou_o be_v not_o prepare_v in_o this_o thing_n thou_o do_v gratify_v the_o devil_n and_o the_o devil_n have_v what_o than_o we_o love_v he_o and_o accept_v of_o the_o person_n of_o the_o man_n but_o god_n first_o will_v accept_v of_o the_o person_n before_o the_o action_n as_o the_o lord_n acept_v of_o abel_n first_o and_o then_o he_o accept_v his_o offering_n so_o you_o must_v look_v to_o that_o to_o have_v your_o person_n first_o accept_v of_o god_n before_o any_o duty_n can_v be_v accept_v you_o think_v though_o you_o be_v wicked_a and_o sinful_a yet_o if_o you_o amend_v your_o life_n god_n will_v accept_v of_o you_o you_o go_v that_o way_n to_o work_v but_o certain_o that_o be_v the_o wrong_a way_n you_o must_v first_o look_v after_o mean_n of_o acception_n of_o your_o person_n which_o be_v through_o the_o righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o through_o the_o sanctification_n ot_fw-mi his_o spirit_n whereby_o you_o come_v to_o have_v his_o image_n and_o life_n and_o so_o be_v accept_v and_o then_o all_o that_o proceed_v from_o you_o come_v to_o be_v accept_v there_o be_v not_o any_o action_n which_o come_v from_o you_o that_o come_v to_o be_v accept_v to_o eternal_a life_n until_o your_o person_n be_v accept_v before_o god_n and_o therefore_o there_o must_v be_v a_o whether_o it_o be_v from_o the_o general_a bounty_n and_o patience_n of_o god_n or_o from_o the_o special_a love_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n our_o heart_n will_v regard_v that_o most_o if_o we_o be_v spiritual_a now_o then_o look_v as_o a_o godly_a man_n be_v not_o satisfy_v with_o enjoy_v any_o good_a thing_n from_o god_n except_o he_o know_v it_o come_v from_o a_o principle_n of_o love_n to_o he_o in_o jesus_n christ_n so_o god_n be_v not_o please_v with_o any_o thing_n that_o come_v from_o we_o except_o he_o know_v that_o it_o come_v from_o a_o principle_n of_o love_n grace_n and_o holiness_n in_o our_o heart_n 3_o three_o according_a as_o the_o heart_n be_v so_o will_v the_o service_n be_v certain_o if_o the_o heart_n be_v unclean_a the_o duty_n will_v be_v unclean_a perhaps_o the_o word_n may_v be_v fine_a and_o brave_a but_o if_o there_o be_v a_o unclean_a heart_n the_o duty_n will_v be_v unclean_a as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o man_n that_o have_v the_o plague_n suppose_v he_o make_v a_o brave_a oration_n yet_o his_o breath_n be_v infectious_a so_o it_o be_v in_o our_o service_n with_o god_n if_o so_o be_v that_o our_o heart_n within_o we_o have_v the_o plague_n then_o certain_o the_o breath_n that_o come_v from_o we_o all_o our_o duty_n will_v be_v unclean_a and_o therefore_o that_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n that_o we_o be_v to_o look_v for_o in_o the_o sanctify_a god_n name_v in_o holy_a duty_n look_v to_o have_v thy_o heart_n sanctify_v and_o consider_v from_o what_o principle_n it_o come_v it_o be_v for_o want_n of_o this_o that_o thousand_o of_o our_o duty_n be_v cast_v aside_o and_o god_n never_o do_v regard_v they_o but_o this_o be_v the_o first_o particular_a there_o be_v many_o more_o to_o speak_v of_o sermon_n v._n leviticus_n perform_v duty_n of_o god_n worship_n we_o may_v expect_v to_o receive_v some_o good_a to_o ourselves_o and_o we_o may_v be_v encourage_v to_o the_o duty_n by_o the_o expectation_n of_o good_a to_o ourselves_o yet_o we_o must_v look_v high_a we_o must_v look_v at_o the_o honour_n and_o praise_n of_o god_n that_o the_o name_n of_o the_o bless_a god_n may_v be_v honour_v now_o i_o be_o go_v to_o prayer_n oh_o that_o i_o may_v pray_v so_o as_o i_o may_v lift_v up_o god_n name_n i_o be_o go_v to_o hear_v oh_o that_o i_o may_v hear_v so_o as_o god_n may_v be_v honour_v by_o my_o hear_n it_o be_v this_o that_o carry_v i_o on_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o make_v i_o rise_v ready_o and_o to_o go_v forth_o cheerful_o i_o hope_v that_o god_n may_v have_v some_o honour_n by_o my_o hear_v this_o day_n &_o god_n know_v that_o this_o be_v the_o thing_n that_o i_o aim_v at_o i_o do_v not_o come_v for_o company_n nor_o to_o be_v see_v of_o man_n neither_o do_v i_o come_v mere_o to_o satisfy_v conscience_n will_v not_o let_v i_o be_v quiet_a howsoever_o there_o be_v many_o who_o conscience_n will_v be_v quiet_a enough_o though_o they_o lose_v a_o opportunity_n in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n but_o yet_o there_o be_v other_o who_o conscience_n can_v do_v so_o their_o conscience_n will_v tell_v they_o when_o they_o be_v lie_v and_o turn_v themselves_o upon_o their_o bed_n how_o do_v you_o know_v but_o that_o god_n have_v something_o to_o speak_v to_o thy_o heart_n this_o morning_n that_o may_v never_o be_v speak_v to_o thy_o heart_n at_o any_o other_o time_n therefore_o they_o can_v be_v at_o quiet_a except_o they_o attend_v upon_o god_n in_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n but_o still_o this_o be_v not_o enough_o mere_o to_o satisfy_v conscience_n thy_o main_a end_n it_o must_v be_v that_o thou_o may_v this_o day_n know_v some_o part_n of_o the_o mind_n of_o god_n that_o god_n may_v speak_v to_o thy_o heart_n that_o so_o thou_o may_v be_v fit_v to_o honour_v the_o name_n of_o god_n that_o thou_o may_v be_v enable_v to_o live_v to_o his_o honour_n the_o week_n follow_v so_o much_o the_o better_o as_o in_o this_o manner_n thy_o thought_n shall_v be_v lord_n i_o find_v a_o drossy_a carnal_a heart_n i_o be_o busy_a in_o the_o world_n in_o the_o week_n time_n and_o i_o find_v that_o my_o heart_n be_v sully_v and_o defile_v with_o the_o business_n of_o the_o world_n and_o entangle_v but_o lord_n thou_o have_v appoint_v thy_o sabbath_n and_o word_n to_o be_v a_o mean_n to_o sanctify_v my_o heart_n and_o to_o cleanse_v it_o oh_o lord_n communicate_v thy_o grace_n to_o my_o soul_n through_o thy_o ordinance_n upon_o this_o day_n that_o so_o i_o may_v be_v enable_v the_o week_n follow_v the_o better_a to_o live_v to_o thy_o honour_n lord_n i_o come_v into_o thy_o presence_n to_o that_o end_n that_o i_o may_v know_v some_o part_n of_o thy_o will_n and_o that_o i_o may_v get_v thy_o spirit_n to_o be_v convey_v through_o this_o word_n of_o thou_o little_a any_o duty_n where_o self_n be_v the_o high_a end_n the_o first_o be_v in_o hos_n 7.14_o they_o howl_v upon_o their_o bed_n say_v the_o text_n there_o but_o they_o cry_v not_o to_o i_o the_o lord_n there_o do_v acknowledge_v that_o they_o be_v very_o much_o affect_v in_o their_o prayer_n but_o what_o be_v it_o it_o be_v but_o a_o howl_n upon_o their_o bed_n and_o how_o so_o it_o be_v because_o only_o they_o do_v cry_v for_o themselves_o they_o have_v not_o cry_v unto_o i_o say_v the_o lord_n with_o their_o heart_n when_o they_o howl_v upon_o their_o bed_n it_o be_v but_o mere_o for_o corn_n and_o wine_n and_o oil_n but_o not_o unto_o i_o they_o aim_v at_o themselves_o and_o not_o at_o i_o and_o in_o amos_n 5.22_o there_o the_o lord_n profess_v that_o he_o do_v reject_v the_o fat_a of_o their_o peace-offering_n though_o you_o offer_v i_o say_v he_o burnt-offering_n and_o your_o meat-offering_n i_o will_v not_o accept_v they_o neither_o will_v i_o regard_v the_o peace-offering_n of_o your_o fat_a beast_n they_o be_v careful_a to_o offer_v their_o fat_a beast_n in_o their_o peace-offering_n and_o will_v not_o god_n regard_v they_o it_o be_v in_o their_o peace-offering_n that_o they_o offer_v their_o fat_a beast_n and_o there_o they_o be_v to_o eat_v a_o great_a part_n of_o it_o themselves_o indeed_o the_o burnt-offering_a be_v whole_o offer_v unto_o god_n god_n have_v all_o that_o but_o the_o peace-offering_a those_o that_o do_v offer_v it_o they_o do_v eat_v a_o great_a part_n of_o it_o themselves_o now_o they_o be_v very_o careful_a in_o those_o offering_n that_o they_o be_v to_o partake_v of_o themselves_o to_o offer_v fat_a beast_n you_o do_v not_o see_v that_o the_o holy-ghost_n take_v any_o notice_n of_o fat_a beast_n in_o their_o burnt-offering_n now_o the_o note_n from_o hence_o be_v this_o that_o in_o those_o thing_n where_o man_n be_v interest_v themselves_o they_o will_v be_v very_o careful_a to_o have_v the_o best_a thing_n but_o now_o the_o lord_n reject_v the_o fat_a beast_n of_o their_o peace-offering_n say_v god_n you_o be_v very_o careful_a to_o offer_v fat_a beast_n in_o your_o peace-offering_n where_o you_o may_v feed_v yourselves_o but_o for_o those_o offering_n wherein_o i_o have_v all_o there_o you_o be_v not_o so_o careful_a and_o therefore_o i_o regard_v they_o not_o the_o three_o scripture_n be_v in_o zach._n 7.5_o there_o they_o do_v keep_v many_o day_n in_o seek_v of_o god_n be_v be_v a_o observable_a scripture_n for_o these_o time_n speak_v unto_o all_o the_o people_n of_o the_o land_n and_o to_o the_o priest_n say_v when_o you_o fast_v and_o mourn_v in_o the_o five_o and_o seven_o month_n even_o those_o seventy_o year_n do_v you_o at_o all_o fast_o unto_o i_o even_o unto_o i_o more_o than_o ourselves_o that_o god_n may_v not_o say_v of_o we_o another_o day_n do_v you_o do_v it_o to_o i_o even_o to_o i_o you_o may_v ask_v i_o this_o question_n how_o may_v i_o know_v that_o i_o be_o act_v by_o self-end_n in_o holy_a duty_n for_o it_o be_v a_o hard_a thing_n for_o one_o to_o know_v one_o own_o heart_n when_o one_o it_o act_v by_o principle_n of_o self_n and_o when_o we_o aim_v at_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n now_o for_o that_o i_o will_v give_v you_o these_o note_n to_o try_v whether_o you_o be_v act_v from_o yourselves_o or_o no._n the_o first_o be_v this_o if_o a_o man_n love_v holy_a duty_n though_o he_o find_v no_o present_a good_a come_v in_o by_o they_o because_o they_o be_v such_o thing_n as_o god_n require_v and_o therefore_o though_o i_o get_v nothing_o by_o they_o yet_o this_o be_v enough_o to_o carry_v i_o on_o and_o to_o carry_v i_o on_o ready_o and_o willing_o in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n those_o that_o can_v delight_v in_o god_n worship_n even_o at_o that_o time_n though_o they_o find_v nothing_o come_v in_o to_o themselves_o but_o now_o when_o we_o find_v not_o that_o come_n in_o that_o we_o do_v desire_n we_o begin_v to_o be_v weary_a of_o worship_n and_o say_v
that_o be_v there_o must_v not_o be_v a_o heart_n and_o a_o heart_n there_o must_v not_o be_v a_o compound_a heart_n but_o you_o must_v bring_v simple_a heart_n before_o god_n without_o any_o composition_n of_o dross_n in_o yourselves_o and_o of_o any_o kind_n of_o falseness_n but_o in_o the_o simplicity_n of_o your_o heart_n you_o must_v come_v to_o worship_n god_n and_o thus_o you_o shall_v worship_v he_o with_o such_o worship_n as_o be_v some_o way_n suitable_a to_o he_o as_o he_o be_v a_o spirit_n 2_o further_n consider_v god_n as_o he_o be_v a_o eternal_a god_n what_o suitable_a disposition_n do_v this_o require_v of_o i_o when_o i_o be_o to_o look_v upon_o god_n as_o a_o eternal_a be_v it_o require_v this_o only_a that_o therefore_o thy_o heart_n must_v be_v take_v off_o from_o all_o temporal_a good_a thing_n and_o set_v upon_o that_o eternal_a good_a thou_o may_v indeed_o desire_v these_o outward_a good_a thing_n but_o in_o order_n to_o thy_o eternal_a good_a then_o further_o thou_o be_v worship_v a_o eternal_a god_n hence_o than_o whatsoever_o sin_n thou_o do_v confess_v although_o commit_v 20._o or_o 40._o year_n ago_o thou_o must_v look_v upon_o it_o as_o if_o it_o be_v now_o present_o commit_v and_o be_v humble_v as_o much_o before_o the_o lord_n as_o if_o it_o be_v now_o commit_v at_o this_o present_a you_o will_v say_v why_o so_o because_o but_o a_o little_a time_n wear_v off_o their_o trouble_n but_o if_o you_o do_v consider_v that_o you_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o eternal_a god_n than_o you_o will_v look_v upon_o your_o sin_n though_o a_o long_a time_n since_o commit_v as_o if_o they_o be_v but_o now_o do_v likewise_o there_o will_v be_v this_o require_v from_o the_o consideration_n of_o god_n eternity_n you_o must_v come_v with_o such_o a_o disposition_n of_o heart_n as_o not_o to_o think_v much_o though_o what_o you_o desire_v be_v defer_v and_o not_o grant_v in_o your_o time_n when_o you_o will_v have_v it_o for_o if_o there_o be_v no_o time_n that_o alter_v with_o god_n but_o a_o thousand_o year_n be_v with_o god_n as_o one_o day_n then_o that_o that_o we_o account_v long_o before_o it_o be_v do_v it_o be_v nothing_o with_o god_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v have_v our_o heart_n so_o work_v towards_o god_n as_o towards_o a_o eternal_a god_n as_o one_o with_o who_o there_o be_v no_o alteration_n of_o time_n at_o all_o with_o who_o there_o be_v no_o succession_n of_o time_n if_o we_o come_v to_o a_o man_n and_o seek_v any_o thing_n of_o he_o if_o he_o do_v not_o answer_v we_o present_o we_o will_v think_v that_o he_o will_v forget_v it_o and_o other_o thing_n will_v come_v into_o his_o mind_n but_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n we_o must_v look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o eternal_a be_v and_o that_o time_n alter_v nothing_o with_o he_o thus_o understanding_n god_n in_o a_o right_a way_n will_v much_o help_v we_o in_o his_o worship_n and_o to_o sanctify_v his_o name_n we_o can_v sanctify_v god_n name_n without_o know_v his_o name_n without_o have_v serious_a thought_n about_o his_o name_n and_o get_v our_o heart_n to_o work_v according_o 3_o three_o look_v upon_o god_n when_o you_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o in_o his_o incomprehensible_a be_v that_o be_v as_o a_o god_n that_o fill_v all_o place_n his_o be_v be_v as_o real_a in_o the_o room_n that_o we_o be_v pray_v in_o the_o place_n that_o we_o be_v meet_v in_o as_o it_o be_v in_o heaven_n now_o then_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o we_o must_v consider_v that_o that_o infinite_a glorious_a be_v stand_v look_v upon_o he_o as_o the_o live_a god_n as_o that_o god_n that_o have_v life_n in_o himself_o and_o give_v life_n unto_o his_o creature_n then_o what_o suitable_a behaviour_n do_v become_v i_o i_o your_o meditation_n go_v over_o the_o attribute_n of_o god_n thus_o and_o consider_v what_o you_o may_v be_v able_a to_o draw_v from_o thence_o god_n he_o be_v the_o live_a god_n what_o behaviour_n then_o do_v beseem_v i_o towards_o this_o live_a god_n oh_o let_v i_o be_v afraid_a lest_o my_o soul_n depart_v from_o the_o live_a god_n let_v i_o bring_v a_o live_a service_n to_o he_o i_o must_v consider_v that_o thou_o come_v to_o a_o merciful_a god_n and_o what_o shall_v this_o work_v first_o it_o shall_v make_v i_o come_v joyful_o into_o his_o presence_n as_o a_o god_n that_o be_v willing_a to_o do_v good_a to_o his_o poor_a creature_n that_o be_v in_o misery_n second_o it_o shall_v make_v i_o to_o come_v with_o a_o heart_n senciable_a of_o the_o need_n of_o this_o mercy_n o_o great_a the_o thing_n be_v that_o we_o come_v to_o god_n for_o the_o more_o welcome_a be_v we_o into_o god_n presence_n and_o those_o that_o be_v acquaint_v with_o god_n they_o know_v it_o and_o therefore_o they_o come_v the_o more_o full_o when_o they_o come_v to_o ask_v jesus_n christ_n himself_o and_o his_o spirit_n that_o be_v more_o worth_a than_o ten_o thousand_o world_n they_o come_v with_o more_o freedom_n of_o spirit_n than_o when_o they_o come_v to_o ask_v their_o health_n and_o the_o like_a four_o it_o will_v be_v likewise_o another_o mean_n of_o sanctify_v this_o attribute_n for_o all_o that_o never_o regard_v to_o avoid_v those_o thing_n that_o may_v hinder_v the_o work_n of_o his_o grace_n upon_o i_o 11_o consider_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n that_o be_v another_o attribute_n consider_v that_o thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o infinite_a righteous_a and_o just_a god_n do_v not_o think_v that_o if_o thou_o be_v a_o believer_n that_o thou_o have_v nothing_o to_o do_v with_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n for_o certain_o thou_o be_v to_o sanctify_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n now_o you_o will_v say_v how_o shall_v a_o believer_n sanctify_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n thus_o first_o he_o shall_v be_v apprehensive_a and_o sensible_a how_o by_o sin_n he_o have_v put_v himself_o under_o justice_n and_o deserve_v the_o stroke_n of_o justice_n to_o be_v upon_o he_o to_o eternity_n he_o shall_v consider_v what_o he_o be_v in_o himself_o it_o be_v true_a that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v come_v between_o a_o believe_a soul_n and_o the_o justice_n of_o the_o father_n and_o have_v take_v the_o stroke_n of_o justice_n upon_o himself_o yea_o but_o though_o he_o have_v do_v it_o it_o do_v not_o hinder_v but_o that_o thou_o shall_v be_v apprehensive_a of_o what_o thou_o have_v deserve_v thyself_o second_o here_o be_v a_o special_a thing_n in_o the_o sanctify_a of_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n when_o we_o come_v before_o he_o we_o shall_v consider_v that_o we_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o infinite_a just_a god_n and_o therefore_o not_o to_o dare_v to_o come_v but_o through_o a_o mediator_n here_o you_o have_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o must_v tender_v up_o all_o in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n because_o when_o we_o be_v to_o come_v before_o god_n we_o be_v to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o his_o justice_n for_o thou_o to_o think_v thus_o i_o have_v sin_v and_o god_n be_v merciful_a and_o i_o will_v go_v and_o pray_v to_o he_o that_o he_o may_v be_v merciful_a and_o there_o be_v a_o end_n be_v this_o all_o oh_o no_o god_n require_v the_o sanctify_a of_o his_o justice_n and_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o do_v sanctify_v his_o justice_n so_o much_o as_o this_o that_o when_o a_o poor_a creature_n see_v the_o infinite_a distance_n that_o sin_n have_v make_v between_o that_o infinite_a god_n and_o it_o it_o see_v that_o through_o sin_n it_o have_v make_v its_o self_n liable_a to_o justice_n and_o when_o it_o see_v that_o there_o be_v a_o absolute_a necessity_n that_o infinite_a justice_n must_v have_v satisfaction_n and_o think_v the_o sinner_n if_o it_o come_v to_o i_o that_o i_o must_v satisfy_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n i_o be_o never_o able_a to_o do_v it_o but_o there_o be_v a_o mediator_n and_o therefore_o i_o will_v fly_v to_o he_o and_o by_o faith_n tender_v up_o to_o the_o father_n all_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o son_n as_o a_o full_a satisfaction_n to_o his_o infinite_a justice_n when_o thou_o come_v thus_o before_o the_o lord_n thou_o sanctife_v his_o name_n indeed_o many_o think_v that_o when_o they_o come_v to_o pray_v they_o shall_v look_v upon_o god_n grace_n and_o mercy_n and_o not_o upon_o his_o justice_n but_o thou_o must_v look_v upon_o both_o another_o attribute_n it_o be_v god_n faithfulness_n consider_v thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o god_n of_o infinite_a truth_n and_o faithfulness_n and_o therefore_o look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o object_n of_o thy_o faith_n to_o rest_v upon_o and_o likewise_o thou_o must_v bring_v a_o faithful_a heart_n suitable_a some_o way_n to_o this_o faithfulness_n of_o god_n that_o be_v a_o heart_n faithful_a with_o he_o to_o keep_v within_o the_o covenant_n that_o thou_o have_v enter_v into_o and_o to_o perform_v all_o the_o vow_n that_o thou_o make_v with_o god_n remember_v thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o faithful_a god_n and_o as_o the_o lord_n delight_v to_o manifest_v his_o righteousness_n to_o poor_a creature_n that_o seek_v his_o face_n so_o this_o god_n do_v expect_v that_o thou_o shall_v be_v faithful_a in_o all_o the_o covenant_n that_o thou_o do_v make_v with_o he_o and_o this_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n now_o then_o put_v all_o these_o attribute_n of_o god_n together_o and_o there_o you_o have_v his_o glory_n the_o infinitness_n of_o his_o glory_n the_o shine_n and_o lustre_n of_o all_o the_o attribute_n together_o be_v god_n glory_n i_o have_v then_o to_o deal_v with_o a_o glorious_a god_n and_o let_v i_o labour_n to_o perform_v such_o service_n as_o many_o have_v a_o spiritual_a glory_n upon_o they_o that_o some_o image_n of_o the_o divine_a lustre_n that_o there_o be_v in_o god_n may_v be_v upon_o my_o service_n and_o let_v i_o look_v for_o glorious_a thing_n see_v i_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o such_o a_o glorious_a god_n you_o will_v say_v here_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o do_v in_o serve_v of_o god_n how_o much_o be_v here_o that_o we_o must_v do_v i_o appeal_v to_o any_o gracious_a heart_n what_o can_v thou_o want_v of_o any_o of_o these_o or_o what_o will_v thou_o want_v do_v thou_o say_v here_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n can_v there_o be_v too_o much_o to_o make_v thou_o happy_a these_o thing_n be_v not_o only_o thy_o duty_n but_o thy_o happiness_n glory_n and_o excellency_n consist_v in_o they_o if_o any_o one_o shall_v bring_v you_o a_o great_a many_o jewel_n and_o pearl_n will_v you_o say_v here_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n ado_n oh_o no_o the_o more_o the_o how_o infinite_o be_v these_o people_n mistake_v how_o little_o do_v they_o know_v of_o god_n or_o of_o the_o way_n of_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n that_o be_v the_o first_o use_n 2_o second_o if_o all_o this_o be_v require_v for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o duty_n that_o we_o can_v perform_v the_o duty_n of_o worship_n without_o this_o behaviour_n of_o soul_n hence_o we_o see_v that_o the_o work_n of_o religion_n be_v a_o hard_a and_o difficult_a work_n to_o flesh_n &_o blood_n a_o main_a work_n of_o religion_n be_v the_o work_n of_o worship_v of_o god_n for_o indeed_o those_o that_o be_v not_o religious_a and_o godly_a they_o never_o worship_v god_n to_o any_o purpose_n then_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n when_o we_o begin_v to_o be_v religious_a and_o godly_a now_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o busy_a work_n to_o be_v a_o religious_a and_o a_o godly_a man_n because_o there_o be_v so_o much_o require_v in_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n many_o people_n think_v it_o a_o very_a easy_a matter_n to_o worship_n god_n and_o the_o worship_n that_o they_o tender_v up_o to_o god_n be_v a_o easy_a matter_n there_o be_v little_a in_o it_o if_o it_o be_v nothing_o else_o to_o worship_n god_n but_o mere_o to_o go_v and_o say_v a_o few_o prayer_n and_o come_v and_o hear_v a_o sermon_n and_o take_v a_o piece_n of_o bread_n and_o wine_n than_o it_o be_v the_o easy_a matter_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v and_o worship_n god_n but_o there_o be_v more_o require_v in_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n than_o thou_o have_v be_v acquaint_v with_o there_o be_v a_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o it_o that_o text_n of_o scripture_n be_v a_o very_a famous_a one_o that_o show_v the_o difficulty_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n and_o how_o man_n be_v mistake_v in_o think_v it_o such_o a_o easy_a and_o slight_a matter_n to_o worship_n god_n it_o be_v in_o josh_n 24.16.19_o where_o joshua_n do_v call_v sanctify_a the_o name_n of_o god_n how_o far_o have_v we_o all_o come_v short_a of_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o when_o we_o look_v abroad_o in_o the_o world_n and_o see_v what_o poor_a service_n god_n have_v general_o from_o the_o man_n and_o woman_n of_o the_o earth_n it_o shall_v make_v our_o heart_n bleed_v within_o we_o where_o almost_o be_v the_o man_n or_o godly_a people_n that_o through_o god_n mercy_n be_v able_a to_o keep_v from_o gross_a sin_n they_o do_v not_o find_v it_o any_o great_a matter_n to_o keep_v from_o company_n swear_v drink_v uncleanness_n lie_v or_o wrong_v of_o other_o and_o such_o kind_n of_o sin_n as_o those_o be_v so_o that_o they_o see_v not_o such_o need_n of_o humiliation_n in_o this_o regard_n unless_o it_o be_v for_o that_o their_o nature_n be_v as_o corrupt_v as_o any_o though_o they_o break_v not_o forth_o into_o those_o actual_a gross_a sin_n but_o the_o main_a work_n of_o the_o humiliation_n of_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a it_o be_v to_o be_v humble_v for_o their_o thought_n for_o the_o mispending_a of_o time_n and_o for_o not_o sanctify_v of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n those_o be_v the_o main_a thing_n that_o be_v the_o subject_n of_o the_o humiliation_n of_o the_o saint_n beside_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n that_o they_o carry_v about_o with_o they_o and_o it_o will_v be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o thy_o heart_n have_v some_o tenderness_n in_o it_o when_o thou_o make_v these_o to_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o thy_o humiliation_n carnal_a people_n little_a be_v trouble_v wing_n and_o with_o two_o of_o their_o wing_n the_o text_n say_v they_o cover_v their_o face_n so_o my_o brethren_n we_o have_v need_n have_v wing_n as_o it_o be_v to_o cover_v our_o best_a duty_n they_o have_v wing_n and_o with_o two_o they_o cover_v their_o leg_n and_o with_o two_o their_o face_n we_o have_v need_v not_o only_o of_o a_o cover_n for_o our_o low_a part_n and_o mean_a duty_n but_o a_o cover_n for_o our_o holy_a duty_n to_o cover_v our_o face_n our_o best_a duty_n of_o all_o the_o most_o heavenly_a duty_n we_o perform_v have_v need_n be_v purge_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n in_o levit._n 16.14.16_o we_o read_v of_o their_o holy_a thing_n that_o there_o be_v need_n of_o purge_v of_o they_o by_o blood_n and_o so_o it_o shall_v be_v in_o our_o holy_a duty_n let_v word_n than_o there_o be_v in_o the_o whole_a creation_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n take_v the_o sun_n and_o moon_n and_o star_n you_o that_o be_v mariner_n you_o have_v see_v much_o of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n abroad_o that_o one_o will_v think_v may_v strike_v terror_n into_o all_o your_o heart_n but_o know_v that_o there_o be_v more_o of_o the_o dreadfulness_n of_o god_n name_n in_o word_n in_o ezra_n 10.2_o 3._o shechaniah_n the_o son_n of_o jehiel_n one_o of_o the_o son_n of_o elam_n answer_v &_o say_v unto_o ezra_n we_o have_v transgress_v against_o our_o god_n &_o have_v take_v strange_a wife_n etc._n etc._n yet_o now_o there_o be_v hope_n in_o israel_n concern_v this_o thing_n now_o therefore_o let_v we_o make_v a_o covenant_n with_o our_o god_n according_a to_o heart_n that_o do_v desire_n to_o empty_v itself_o of_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v against_o the_o word_n and_o which_o be_v not_o suitable_a to_o the_o spiritualness_n of_o the_o word_n a_o heart_n i_o say_v that_o entertain_v nothing_o in_o it_o that_o any_o way_n make_v against_o the_o word_n a_o good_a heart_n be_v a_o heart_n which_o as_o the_o apo_n le_fw-mi say_v in_o jam._n 1.21_o and_o that_o place_n may_v very_o well_o come_v in_o here_o to_o be_v open_v be_v cleanse_v from_o all_o filthiness_n and_o superfluity_n of_o naughtiness_n the_o word_n that_o be_v there_o translate_a filthiness_n it_o signify_v excrement_n that_o which_o be_v unclean_a that_o which_o come_v from_o the_o body_n such_o be_v the_o sinfulness_n of_o your_o heart_n you_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n if_o it_o be_v with_o evil_a heart_n you_o mingle_v that_o very_a filthiness_n which_o be_v as_o vile_a before_o god_n as_o excrement_n be_v and_o superfinity_n of_o naughtiness_n by_o that_o i_o take_v be_v mean_v as_o if_o the_o holy-ghost_n shall_v say_v do_v not_o think_v it_o enough_o for_o to_o purge_v away_o filthiness_n that_o be_v notorious_a stink_a evil_n abominable_a sin_n that_o you_o do_v not_o come_v with_o such_o filthy_a vile_a heart_n but_o whatsoever_o there_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n that_o be_v any_o way_n against_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n it_o be_v a_o superfluity_n of_o naughtiness_n all_o kind_n of_o evil_a thought_n and_o evil_a affection_n that_o be_v more_o than_o needs_o look_v into_o your_o heart_n and_o affection_n and_o see_v whatsoever_o you_o find_v there_o that_o be_v more_o than_o aught_o to_o be_v run_v out_o unto_o any_o thing_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o labour_v to_o purge_v out_o that_o say_v he_o do_v not_o satisfy_v more_o mean_v than_o such_o a_o one_o that_o we_o call_v a_o honest_a man_n that_o be_v a_o man_n that_o be_v honest_a in_o his_o deal_n between_o man_n and_o man_n there_o be_v many_o a_o man_n that_o be_v account_v a_o very_a honest_a man_n in_o the_o world_n but_o have_v not_o a_o honest_a heart_n i_o beseech_v you_o observe_v it_o that_o man_n that_o have_v a_o honest_a heart_n to_o god_n be_v one_o that_o receive_v the_o seed_n of_o the_o word_n so_o as_o he_o go_v beyond_o the_o highway_n ground_n the_o stony_a ground_n or_o the_o thorny_a ground_n he_o go_v beyond_o those_o three_o at_o one_o ear_n so_o it_o go_v out_o at_o the_o other_o i_o fear_v there_o be_v some_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o be_v account_v honest_a man_n and_o woman_n in_o the_o world_n that_o can_v hardly_o give_v a_o account_n of_o any_o one_o sermon_n they_o have_v hear_v in_o all_o their_o life_n hardly_o i_o say_v but_o the_o word_n which_o they_o hear_v be_v present_o take_v away_o from_o they_o and_o yet_o these_o be_v account_v honest_a man_n in_o the_o world_n but_o this_o be_v not_o the_o honest_a heart_n the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o and_o many_o there_o be_v that_o go_v further_o than_o these_o that_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n with_o joy_n and_o yet_o they_o have_v not_o this_o honest_a heart_n yea_o they_o may_v hear_v the_o word_n so_o as_o to_o bring_v forth_o a_o blade_n and_o yet_o nor_o have_v this_o honest_a heart_n by_o this_o honest_a heart_n i_o take_v therefore_o to_o be_v mean_v this_o a_o heart_n that_o deal_v square_o and_o true_o with_o god_n behave_v itself_o in_o a_o beseem_a manner_n suitable_a to_o that_o authority_n and_o excellency_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o now_o for_o example_n 1_o first_o among_o man_n he_o be_v account_v a_o honest_a man_n that_o deal_v square_o and_o true_o with_o man_n in_o all_o action_n such_o a_o man_n you_o will_v say_v be_v a_o honest_a man_n as_o honest_a a_o man_n as_o ever_o break_v bread_n that_o be_v one_o that_o will_v deal_v square_o with_o man_n not_o only_o in_o one_o thing_n but_o turn_v he_o to_o any_o thing_n and_o you_o shall_v find_v a_o proportion_n between_o one_o action_n and_o another_o so_o this_o be_v a_o honest_a heart_n not_o one_o that_o only_o will_v be_v forward_o for_o god_n in_o some_o one_o action_n wherein_o he_o may_v enjoy_v himself_o as_o well_o as_o god_n but_o one_o that_o deal_v square_o with_o god_n let_v god_n put_v he_o upon_o duty_n upon_o any_o service_n god_n shall_v find_v he_o still_o to_o be_v the_o same_o man_n put_v he_o upon_o any_o easy_a service_n as_o many_o will_v embrace_v that_o or_o put_v he_o upon_o a_o difficult_a service_n it_o be_v all_o one_o if_o it_o be_v the_o mind_n of_o god_n you_o shall_v find_v he_o square_v in_o every_o thing_n though_o he_o be_v put_v upon_o that_o which_o he_o be_v like_a to_o suffer_v very_o much_o in_o yet_o he_o go_v on_o according_a to_o his_o principle_n a_o honest_a heart_n be_v one_o that_o have_v receive_v gracious_a principle_n and_o according_o he_o act_v all_o the_o world_n can_v take_v he_o off_o from_o his_o principle_n of_o godliness_n that_o the_o lord_n have_v put_v into_o his_o heart_n 2_o second_o a_o honest_a man_n be_v one_o that_o provide_v thing_n honest_a before_o man_n that_o do_v all_o thing_n in_o a_o seemly_a way_n in_o all_o those_o relation_n that_o he_o have_v unto_o other_o that_o we_o account_v honesty_n so_o when_o a_o man_n behaviour_n towards_o the_o word_n be_v such_o as_o do_v beseem_v the_o word_n of_o that_o god_n with_o who_o he_o have_v to_o deal_v that_o look_v what_o excellency_n what_o glory_n there_o be_v
but_o now_o ill_a hearer_n that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o his_o word_n they_o be_v like_o ground_n that_o receive_v the_o rain_n as_o much_o as_o the_o other_o hear_v as_o many_o sermon_n as_o the_o other_o but_o they_o bring_v forth_o nothing_o but_o thorn_n and_o brier_n and_o mark_v what_o a_o dreadful_a expression_n be_v against_o they_o first_o it_o be_v reject_v second_o it_o be_v nigh_o to_o curse_v three_o who_o end_n be_v to_o be_v burn_v thou_o rejecte_v the_o word_n do_v thou_o the_o lord_n reject_v thy_o soul_n if_o thou_o have_v no_o need_n of_o the_o word_n the_o word_n have_v no_o need_n of_o thou_o it_o be_v a_o dreadful_a thing_n to_o be_v reject_v of_o god_n and_o then_o thou_o be_v nigh_o unto_o curse_v it_o may_v be_v the_o lord_n may_v for_o the_o time_n withdraw_v himself_o from_o the_o soul_n and_o manifest_a that_o it_o be_v as_o it_o be_v reject_v but_o yet_o the_o soul_n have_v not_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n upon_o it_o to_o say_v well_o let_v this_o soul_n perish_v for_o ever_o but_o some_o there_o be_v that_o be_v under_o a_o actual_a curse_n and_o say_v god_n well_o my_o word_n shall_v never_o do_v good_a to_o this_o soul_n such_o a_o one_o have_v sit_v under_o it_o thus_o long_o and_o have_v reject_v it_o my_o word_n shall_v never_o do_v good_a to_o he_o like_v as_o in_o luk._n 14._o where_o those_o that_o make_v excuse_n when_o they_o be_v bid_v to_o the_o supper_n the_o text_n say_v at_o length_n that_o the_o master_n of_o the_o feast_n be_v angry_a which_o be_v god_n himself_o that_o invite_v they_o by_o the_o gospel_n to_o partake_v of_o his_o son_n and_o when_o man_n will_v not_o come_v in_o but_o make_v excuse_n and_o refuse_v the_o offer_n of_o the_o gospel_n very_o say_v he_o none_o of_o those_o man_n need_n of_o he_o and_o the_o infinite_a excellency_n that_o there_o be_v in_o jesus_n christ_n my_o soul_n do_v famish_v and_o perish_v for_o ever_o without_o christ_n but_o in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o christ_n there_o be_v a_o fullness_n for_o the_o satisfy_n of_o my_o soul_n that_o i_o have_v have_v of_o christ_n sometime_o in_o the_o word_n and_o sometime_o in_o prayer_n that_o have_v be_v sweet_a unto_o i_o but_o i_o expect_v a_o further_a communion_n of_o christ_n here_o for_o this_o be_v the_o grand_a ordinance_n for_o communion_n with_o jesus_n christ_n indeed_o the_o word_n in_o this_o respect_n it_o be_v beyond_o this_o ordinance_n that_o be_v it_o be_v not_o only_o for_o the_o increase_n of_o grace_n but_o for_o the_o beget_n this_o be_v only_o for_o the_o increase_n of_o grace_n and_o not_o appoint_v for_o the_o beget_n now_o in_o that_o respect_n the_o word_n be_v above_o the_o sacrament_n but_o now_o this_o sacrament_n be_v a_o more_o full_a ordinance_n for_o something_o to_o take_v the_o meat_n to_o you_o so_o say_v christ_n he_o break_v bread_n and_o give_v it_o to_o his_o disciple_n say_v take_v eat_v this_o take_v it_o how_o shall_v we_o take_v it_o that_o the_o main_a matter_n of_o your_o prayer_n be_v only_o for_o yourselves_o but_o how_o have_v the_o matter_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o great_a god_n and_o the_o good_a of_o the_o church_n take_v your_o heart_n all_o this_o while_n how_o have_v your_o heart_n be_v affect_v with_o this_o that_o the_o name_n of_o god_n have_v be_v so_o little_o sanctify_v in_o the_o world_n and_o that_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n have_v not_o come_v and_o that_o the_o will_n of_o god_n have_v not_o be_v do_v have_v these_o thing_n take_v up_o your_o heart_n in_o prayer_n the_o matter_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o good_a of_o church_n though_o yourselves_o have_v not_o any_o particular_a interest_n in_o they_o if_o these_o thing_n do_v but_o take_v up_o your_o heart_n in_o prayer_n then_o when_o you_o be_v at_o sea_n you_o will_v remember_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o church_n as_o much_o as_o yourselves_o the_o church_n be_v as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o sea_n toss_v up_o and_o down_o and_o in_o a_o great_a storm_n now_o why_o do_v not_o you_o pray_v as_o earnest_o for_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n among_o his_o church_n as_o for_o yourselves_o when_o you_o be_v in_o a_o storm_n at_o sea_n yea_o and_o spiritual_a thing_n shall_v be_v the_o chief_a matter_n of_o your_o prayer_n for_o they_o be_v the_o near_a to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n though_o god_n have_v his_o glory_n from_o other_o thing_n yet_o spiritual_a thing_n be_v near_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n now_o in_o these_o day_n of_o prayer_n many_o will_v come_v to_o pray_v that_o they_o may_v be_v free_v from_o danger_n that_o they_o may_v have_v outward_a peace_n this_o be_v good_a but_o spiritual_a thing_n be_v the_o chief_a thing_n and_o therefore_o the_o strength_n of_o indeed_o may_v well_o take_v up_o a_o whole_a sermon_n in_o show_v the_o evil_a of_o the_o wander_a of_o our_o spirit_n in_o prayer_n we_o shall_v take_v heed_n of_o the_o wander_a of_o our_o spirit_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n and_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n and_o so_o in_o prayer_n the_o people_n of_o god_n be_v much_o trouble_v with_o the_o wander_a of_o their_o thought_n both_o in_o word_n and_o sacrament_n and_o it_o be_v their_o great_a burden_n and_o shall_v be_v so_o but_o i_o never_o hear_v any_o more_o complain_n of_o the_o wander_a of_o their_o spirit_n than_o in_o the_o time_n of_o prayer_n the_o people_n of_o god_n be_v much_o pester_v in_o their_o spirit_n with_o this_o evil_a it_o be_v very_o grievous_a unto_o they_o and_o many_o of_o they_o go_v under_o it_o as_o a_o grievous_a burden_n all_o their_o day_n the_o chief_a burden_n that_o be_v upon_o their_o spirit_n be_v their_o wander_a in_o prayer_n so_o that_o if_o god_n shall_v speak_v to_o they_o as_o he_o speak_v unto_o solomon_n and_o bid_v he_o ask_v what_o he_o shall_v give_v he_o i_o very_o believe_v there_o be_v many_o in_o this_o congregation_n that_o have_v already_o good_a assurance_n of_o god_n love_n in_o christ_n if_o they_o have_v not_o that_o that_o will_v be_v the_o main_a thing_n that_o they_o will_v ask_v but_o have_v attain_v that_o if_o god_n will_v speak_v from_o heaven_n and_o say_v what_o shall_v i_o give_v you_o for_o yourselves_o if_o he_o shall_v ask_v you_o in_o the_o general_n it_o may_v be_v you_o will_v ask_v something_o for_o the_o church_n but_o if_o it_o be_v for_o yourselves_o you_o will_v put_v up_o this_o petition_n oh_o lord_n that_o i_o may_v be_v deliver_v from_o a_o wander_a spirit_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o especial_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o prayer_n that_o i_o may_v thereby_o come_v to_o enjoy_v more_o holy_a communion_n with_o thyself_o than_o ever_o yet_o i_o enjoy_v and_o they_o will_v account_v this_o to_o be_v a_o great_a mercy_n than_o if_o god_n shall_v give_v they_o to_o be_v king_n or_o queen_n over_o the_o whole_a world_n if_o god_n shall_v put_v these_o two_o into_o the_o balance_n either_o the_o whole_a world_n to_o possess_v or_o otherwise_o to_o have_v more_o free_a heart_n in_o come_v to_o god_n in_o prayer_n and_o to_o be_v deliver_v from_o that_o that_o have_v so_o much_o hinder_v their_o communion_n with_o god_n in_o prayer_n they_o will_v despise_v and_o scorn_v the_o the_o world_n in_o comparison_n of_o such_o a_o mercy_n as_o this_o be_v howsoever_o carnal_a heart_n they_o think_v little_a of_o it_o but_o those_o that_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n they_o find_v it_o to_o be_v very_o grievous_a to_o they_o but_o be_v the_o time_n be_v past_a i_o shall_v reserve_v that_o to_o speak_v yet_o a_o little_a more_o large_o for_o the_o help_n of_o those_o that_o be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o it_o i_o will_v only_o speak_v one_o thing_n further_o now_o and_o that_o shall_v be_v to_o those_o some_o blasphemous_a thought_n cast_v into_o they_o for_o the_o devil_n be_v never_o more_o busy_a than_o at_o the_o time_n of_o prayer_n but_o they_o rather_o come_v from_o the_o devil_n than_o as_o well_o as_o man_n do_v converse_v with_o man_n in_o word_n and_o what_o a_o woeful_a guiltiness_n will_v have_v be_v upon_o you_o have_v you_o speak_v such_o vile_a and_o wicked_a thing_n to_o
