when_o any_o earthly_a thing_n which_o his_o affection_n be_v glue_v to_o stand_v in_o competition_n with_o christ_n he_o have_v rather_o loose_v christ_n than_o he_o will_v loose_v all_o his_o pleasure_n in_o these_o earthly_a thing_n because_o he_o be_v not_o thorough_o humble_v humiliation_n come_v and_o take_v all_o impedimout_n away_o plough_n up_o the_o hardness_n of_o the_o heart_n set_v the_o affection_n on_o another_o object_n to_o delight_n in_o check_n the_o will_n open_v the_o mind_n awaken_v the_o conscience_n that_o christ_n be_v all_o to_o he_o in_o all_o thing_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v compare_v unto_o the_o good_a ground_n that_o receive_v the_o word_n with_o a_o honest_a and_o good_a heart_n the_o heart_n will_v not_o be_v fit_a to_o receive_v that_o good_a that_o will_v make_v it_o good_a till_o it_o be_v plough_v deep_a and_o humble_v than_o the_o word_n will_v grow_v the_o heart_n must_v be_v humble_v before_o grace_n will_v grow_v and_o therefore_o this_o be_v the_o effect_n that_o humiliation_n work_v when_o the_o heart_n be_v humble_v he_o will_v not_o part_v with_o christ_n for_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n therefore_o you_o see_v upon_o what_o ground_n humiliation_n be_v necessary_a because_o man_n will_v not_o receive_v christ_n till_o they_o be_v humble_v the_o second_o question_n be_v whether_o humiliation_n be_v 2._o simple_o and_o absolute_o necessary_a to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o it_o be_v not_o simple_o and_o absolute_o 2._o necessary_a for_o it_o be_v not_o a_o simple_a grace_n and_o therefore_o not_o necessary_a on_o god_n part_n but_o it_o be_v a_o condition_n require_v on_o our_o part_n because_o we_o will_v not_o receive_v christ_n till_o we_o be_v humble_a i_o say_v it_o be_v not_o a_o simple_a grace_n or_o simple_o necessary_a for_o that_o which_o a_o man_n may_v exceed_v in_o be_v not_o simple_o necessary_a but_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n may_v have_v too_o much_o of_o it_o that_o be_v he_o may_v exceed_v in_o the_o measure_n he_o may_v be_v over_o humble_a and_o therefore_o paul_n write_v unto_o the_o corinthian_n 2_o cor._n 2._o 7._o that_o they_o shall_v comfort_v the_o incestuous_a person_n lest_o he_o shall_v be_v swallow_v up_o of_o 7._o grief_n now_o that_o which_o be_v a_o simple_a grace_n a_o man_n can_v have_v too_o much_o of_o he_o can_v exceed_v in_o it_o as_o for_o example_n a_o man_n can_v have_v too_o much_o faith_n or_o repentance_n or_o love_n sanctification_n etc._n etc._n but_o the_o more_o he_o have_v of_o these_o the_o better_a now_o howsoever_o it_o be_v not_o simple_o necessary_a on_o god_n part_n because_o he_o can_v save_v man_n without_o it_o yet_o it_o be_v a_o necessary_a condition_n on_o our_o part_n and_o in_o regard_n of_o we_o because_o we_o will_v not_o receive_v christ_n till_o we_o be_v humble_v and_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o we_o preach_v the_o gospel_n general_o sometime_o sometime_o with_o the_o condition_n as_o in_o matth._n 11._o 28._o come_v unto_o i_o all_o that_o be_v weary_a and_o heavy_a lade_v and_o i_o will_v ease_v you_o 28._o till_o man_n do_v feel_v sin_n as_o a_o heavy_a burden_n they_o will_v not_o come_v unto_o christ_n to_o be_v case_v of_o it_o again_o in_o revel_n 22._o 17._o whosoever_o be_v athirst_a let_v he_o come_v and_o take_v of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n free_o except_o 17._o they_o first_o be_v athirst_a and_o find_v they_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o christ_n they_o will_v not_o come_v unto_o he_o to_o be_v refresh_v again_o sometime_o it_o be_v put_v without_o any_o condition_n except_o faith_n revel_v 22._o and_o whosoever_o will_v let_v he_o take_v of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n free_o that_o be_v whosoever_o have_v a_o desire_n to_o come_v unto_o christ_n let_v he_o come_v and_o he_o shall_v have_v he_o without_o any_o exception_n of_o person_n or_o condition_n he_o that_o believe_v shall_v be_v save_v and_o he_o that_o believe_v not_o shall_v be_v damn_v bring_v true_a save_v purge_a work_a justify_n faith_n and_o thou_o shall_v have_v christ_n and_o salvation_n where_o there_o be_v no_o mention_n of_o humiliation_n for_o there_o may_v we_o know_v be_v seeding_n without_o plough_v and_o there_o may_v be_v plough_v and_o yet_o no_o sow_v and_o sow_v and_o no_o reap_v so_o i_o say_v there_o may_v be_v save_v and_o sanctify_a grace_n wrought_v in_o the_o heart_n without_o humiliation_n and_o again_o there_o may_v be_v humiliation_n and_o no_o true_a grace_n at_o all_o or_o general_a grace_n but_o not_o special_a and_o save_a grace_n but_o the_o way_n to_o make_v we_o fit_a to_o receive_v grace_n be_v to_o be_v humble_a a_o man_n may_v be_v say_v to_o receive_v christ_n by_o a_o common_a light_n of_o knowledge_n and_o hereupon_o do_v many_o thing_n for_o christ_n but_o yet_o he_o will_v not_o take_v christ_n for_o his_o king_n aswell_o as_o a_o saviour_n except_o he_o be_v humble_v he_o will_v not_o take_v christ_n so_o as_o to_o be_v rule_v by_o his_o law_n and_o to_o live_v under_o his_o command_n he_o will_v not_o take_v he_o with_o loss_n and_o cross_n disgrace_n and_o reproach_n till_o he_o be_v humble_v he_o will_v not_o endure_v reproach_n he_o will_v be_v content_a to_o have_v christ_n but_o if_o christ_n must_v cost_v he_o all_o that_o than_o christ_n and_o he_o must_v part_v but_o when_o a_o man_n be_v thorough_o humble_v than_o he_o will_v part_v with_o all_o thing_n for_o christ_n nothing_o shall_v be_v so_o dear_a and_o precious_a unto_o he_o as_o christ_n will_v be_v if_o any_o thing_n come_v in_o competition_n with_o christ_n he_o will_v refuse_v it_o for_o christ_n thus_o you_o see_v that_o humiliation_n be_v a_o necessary_a condition_n on_o our_o part_n though_o not_o a_o simple_a grace_n the_o three_o question_n be_v this_o whether_o there_o be_v quest._n any_o kind_n of_o humiliation_n more_o than_o one_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o there_o be_v a_o twofold_a sorrow_n answ._n the_o first_o be_v a_o preparative_n sorrow_n the_o second_o be_v a_o godly_a sorrow_n the_o preparative_n sorrow_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n as_o it_o cause_v punishment_n or_o a_o sorrow_n for_o some_o judgement_n likely_a to_o ensue_v and_o pronounce_v against_o he_o but_o this_o be_v not_o the_o true_a sorrow_n a_o reprobate_n may_v have_v this_o sorrow_n which_o shall_v never_o be_v save_v this_o be_v the_o sorrow_n of_o judas_n and_o cain_n and_o ahab_n they_o sorrow_v but_o it_o be_v a_o false_a sorrow_n only_o a_o work_n of_o the_o flesh_n it_o have_v his_o original_n from_o nature_n its_o object_n punishment_n and_o its_o end_n despair_n but_o the_o second_o be_v a_o godly_a sorrow_n such_o as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o in_o 1_o corinth_n 7._o 7._o that_o work_v repentance_n 7._o not_o to_o be_v repent_v of_o that_o be_v it_o turn_v the_o heart_n to_o god_n it_o take_v away_o that_o flinty_a disposition_n of_o nature_n by_o the_o conveyance_n of_o grace_n it_o make_v the_o heart_n better_o it_o bring_v it_o into_o a_o frame_n of_o obedience_n it_o work_v a_o willingness_n in_o it_o to_o good_a so_o that_o the_o difference_n of_o they_o lie_v in_o this_o the_o one_o be_v outward_a but_o the_o other_o be_v inward_a the_o one_o be_v from_o grace_n the_o other_o be_v from_o temporal_a thing_n the_o one_o be_v a_o work_n of_o the_o flesh_n the_o other_o be_v a_o work_n of_o the_o sanctify_a spirit_n the_o one_o will_v make_v a_o man_n fly_v unto_o christ_n because_o of_o our_o want_n as_o in_o the_o example_n of_o the_o publican_n especial_o in_o the_o prodigal_a son_n he_o never_o seek_v unto_o his_o father_n till_o he_o be_v thorough_o humble_v then_o he_o conclude_v i_o will_v go_v unto_o my_o father_n the_o other_o will_v set_v and_o push_v a_o man_n further_o from_o god_n this_o we_o see_v in_o cain_n and_o judas_n their_o sorrow_n make_v they_o run_v away_o from_o god_n but_o this_o godly_a sorrow_n or_o humiliation_n never_o rest_v till_o it_o bring_v a_o sinner_n into_o the_o presence_n of_o christ_n and_o when_o the_o soul_n be_v in_o god_n presence_n than_o it_o will_v never_o rest_v till_o christ_n have_v make_v its_o peace_n with_o god_n but_o as_o i_o say_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o worldly_a sorrow_n be_v to_o drive_v a_o man_n further_o from_o christ._n adam_n have_v this_o sorrow_n he_o run_v and_o hide_v himself_o a_o carnal_a man_n will_v sorrow_n either_o for_o some_o present_a judgement_n upon_o his_o person_n or_o else_o upon_o his_o substance_n but_o yet_o it_o will_v not_o turn_v the_o heart_n that_o will_v not_o work_v a_o pliable_a disposition_n in_o the_o heart_n to_o yield_v obedience_n out_o of_o love_n in_o hatred_n to_o sin_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a that_o harden_v the_o heart_n the_o
more_o even_o as_o water_n harden_v iron_n when_o it_o be_v hot_a but_o this_o godly_a sorrow_n work_v other_o effect_n therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v i_o be_v glad_a that_o you_o be_v sorrowful_a because_o it_o wrought_v repentance_n in_o you_o that_o be_v it_o change_v your_o heart_n so_o much_o for_o this_o question_n the_o four_o question_n be_v this_o whether_o there_o be_v any_o difference_n between_o the_o godly_a sorrow_n and_o quest._n that_o which_o be_v false_a to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o they_o differ_v in_o three_o thing_n especial_o 1._o in_o the_o object_n  _fw-fr 2._o in_o the_o cause_n answ._n  _fw-fr 3_o in_o the_o effect_n the_o first_o difference_n be_v in_o the_o object_n the_o object_n of_o worldly_a sorrow_n be_v the_o punishment_n of_o sin_n 1._o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n he_o look_v upon_o these_o without_o any_o relation_n to_o christ_n but_o the_o object_n of_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v sin_n as_o it_o stand_v in_o opposition_n with_o the_o love_n of_o god_n towards_o he_o in_o christ_n and_o howsoever_o a_o regenerate_a man_n look_v upon_o the_o punishment_n yet_o in_o a_o different_a degree_n not_o so_o much_o because_o he_o fear_v punishment_n as_o that_o he_o shall_v give_v his_o father_n such_o cause_n to_o take_v such_o displeasure_n against_o he_o but_o it_o be_v sin_n that_o he_o principal_o look_v upon_o viz._n that_o he_o have_v displease_v so_o good_a so_o gracious_a a_o father_n as_o god_n have_v be_v unto_o he_o and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o work_v humiliation_n in_o he_o but_o the_o other_o see_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o hell_n death_n and_o that_o final_a separation_n between_o he_o and_o happiness_n and_o hereupon_o for_o fear_v of_o punishment_n he_o be_v humble_v thus_o you_o see_v the_o difference_n in_o the_o object_n the_o second_o difference_n be_v in_o the_o cause_n the_o cause_n of_o the_o worldly_a sorrow_n be_v either_o some_o judgement_n 2._o present_a either_o upon_o his_o person_n or_o in_o his_o substance_n or_o in_o his_o family_n or_o else_o it_o be_v some_o judgement_n that_o he_o fear_v god_n will_v inflict_v upon_o he_o hereafter_o either_o in_o his_o riches_n or_o in_o his_o credit_n and_o reputation_n among_o man_n and_o therefore_o for_o fear_v of_o these_o he_o be_v humble_v but_o the_o cause_n of_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v the_o apprehension_n of_o sin_n as_o it_o be_v contrary_a unto_o the_o nature_n purity_n and_o perfection_n of_o god_n as_o also_o of_o god_n love_n towards_o a_o man_n he_o have_v a_o eye_n give_v he_o whereby_o he_o see_v into_o the_o riches_n of_o god_n love_n unto_o he_o and_o then_o reflect_v upon_o himself_o and_o see_v his_o carriage_n towards_o god_n for_o such_o mercy_n and_o find_v no_o proportion_n between_o they_o hence_o grow_v his_o sorrow_n that_o he_o shall_v thus_o requite_v god_n with_o sin_n for_o mercy_n the_o three_o difference_n be_v in_o the_o effect_n for_o as_o they_o 3._o do_v proceed_v not_o from_o one_o and_o the_o same_o ground_n so_o they_o bring_v not_o forth_o the_o same_o but_o contrary_a effect_n and_o they_o be_v three_o fold_n first_o worldly_a sorrow_n it_o draw_v the_o affection_n of_o the_o heart_n from_o god_n because_o they_o see_v he_o as_o a_o judge_n they_o can_v love_v he_o as_o a_o father_n he_o take_v god_n to_o be_v his_o enemy_n and_o therefore_o do_v what_o he_o can_v to_o fly_v from_o he_o because_o he_o expect_v no_o good_a from_o he_o this_o we_o see_v as_o before_o in_o adam_n cain_n and_o judas_n but_o the_o godly_a sorrow_n it_o make_v a_o man_n cleave_v fast_o unto_o christ_n to_o stick_v fast_o unto_o grace_n it_o whet_v the_o affection_n to_o love_n christ_n to_o prize_n christ_n more_o it_o work_v a_o willing_a readiness_n in_o the_o soul_n to_o obey_v it_o put_v by_o that_o which_o will_v make_v he_o fly_v from_o christ_n second_o worldly_a sorrow_n it_o hurt_v the_o body_n it_o breed_v disease_n it_o waste_v and_o consume_v the_o entrail_n breed_v and_o bring_v consumption_n of_o the_o body_n it_o dull_v and_o make_v dead_a the_o soul_n it_o take_v away_o the_o relish_n of_o spiritual_a thing_n it_o make_v a_o man_n careless_a to_o good_a it_o daule_v and_o make_v a_o man_n unwilling_a unto_o any_o good_a but_o the_o godly_a sorrow_n it_o be_v the_o life_n of_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v the_o health_n of_o the_o body_n it_o quicken_v the_o soul_n of_o man_n unto_o good_a it_o put_v a_o new_a life_n into_o it_o it_o work_v a_o readiness_n in_o the_o will_n and_o love_n in_o the_o affection_n to_o christ_n grace_n and_o holiness_n three_o worldly_a sorrow_n it_o make_v a_o man_n of_o a_o hot_a and_o a_o fiery_a spirit_n it_o stir_v he_o up_o after_o evil_a to_o reproach_n and_o disgrace_v his_o neighbour_n it_o fill_v he_o full_a of_o hatred_n revenge_n and_o envy_v but_o godly_a sorrow_n it_o breed_v another_o kind_n of_o spirit_n in_o he_o it_o make_v he_o of_o a_o meek_a and_o a_o quiet_a spirit_n worldly_a sorrow_n will_v not_o put_v up_o reproach_n disgrace_n and_o wrong_v but_o this_o will_v put_v up_o all_o injury_n and_o wrong_n and_o whatsoever_o else_o he_o meet_v withal_o for_o christ_n thus_o you_o see_v the_o difference_n between_o these_o the_o five_o question_n be_v this_o how_o shall_v i_o know_v quest._n whether_o my_o sorrow_n be_v a_o godly_a sorrow_n or_o no._n to_o this_o i_o answer_v you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o these_o three_o thing_n 1._o by_o the_o ingredient_n answ._n  _fw-fr 2._o by_o the_o continuance_n  _fw-fr 3_o by_o the_o event_n first_o i_o say_v you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o the_o ingredient_n for_o first_o they_o have_v not_o only_o the_o sense_n of_o 1._o punishment_n which_o be_v common_a unto_o the_o worldly_a sorrow_n for_o i_o say_v howsoever_o it_o be_v the_o property_n of_o worldly_a sorrow_n to_o apprehend_v punishment_n yet_o it_o be_v likewise_o require_v of_o godly_a sorrow_n to_o be_v sensible_a of_o punishment_n but_o there_o be_v another_o light_n put_v into_o he_o whereby_o he_o see_v into_o the_o uncleanness_n of_o sin_n he_o see_v sin_n in_o its_o own_o dye_n not_o only_a sin_n to_o be_v sin_n but_o sin_n to_o be_v vile_a and_o hereupon_o he_o will_v not_o content_v himself_o with_o mercy_n unless_o he_o may_v have_v grace_n but_o the_o other_o care_v not_o if_o he_o may_v be_v free_a from_o punishment_n whether_o he_o have_v strength_n against_o corruption_n or_o no._n second_o you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o the_o continuance_n 2._o of_o it_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v constant_a but_o worldly_a sorrow_n be_v but_o a_o passion_n of_o the_o mind_n it_o change_v it_o last_v not_o though_o for_o the_o present_a it_o may_v be_v violent_a and_o strong_a and_o work_n much_o outward_o yet_o it_o come_v but_o by_o fit_n and_o continue_v not_o like_o a_o land_n flood_n which_o violent_o for_o the_o present_a overflows_a the_o bank_n but_o it_o will_v away_o again_o it_o be_v not_o always_o thus_o but_o the_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v like_o a_o spring_n that_o still_o keep_v his_o run_n it_o be_v not_o dry_v up_o but_o run_v still_o it_o be_v not_o so_o violent_a as_o the_o other_o but_o it_o be_v more_o sure_a you_o shall_v have_v it_o still_o run_v both_o winter_n and_o summer_n wet_a and_o dry_a in_o hot_a and_o cold_a early_o and_o late_o so_o this_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v the_o same_o in_o a_o regenerate_a man_n still_o take_v he_o when_o you_o will_v he_o be_v still_o sorrow_v for_o sin_n this_o godly_a sorrow_n it_o stand_v like_o the_o centre_n of_o the_o earth_n which_o remove_v not_o but_o still_o remain_v three_o you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o the_o success_n and_o 3._o event_n of_o it_o it_o will_v turn_v the_o heart_n unto_o christ_n it_o will_v make_v the_o heart_n stand_v more_o firm_a in_o grace_n it_o will_v turn_v the_o whole_a frame_n of_o the_o soul_n unto_o god_n like_o the_o loadstone_n that_o will_v not_o rest_v till_o it_o have_v touch_v the_o iron_n or_o as_o the_o needle_n touch_v will_v not_o stand_v till_o it_o touch_v the_o north-pole_n so_o it_o be_v with_o this_o godly_a sorrow_n when_o a_o man_n have_v receive_v but_o a_o touch_n of_o the_o spirit_n he_o will_v never_o rest_v till_o he_o have_v touch_v christ_n till_o he_o be_v at_o peace_n with_o he_o nothing_o will_v satisfy_v he_o till_o christ_n come_v into_o the_o soul_n till_o christ_n be_v his_o nothing_o will_v make_v he_o to_o remove_v that_o confidence_n and_o trust_v that_o he_o have_v in_o christ_n all_o thing_n shall_v go_v for_o christ._n but_o the_o worldly_a sorrow_n have_v another_o success_n namely_o to_o fly_v fast_o away_o from_o god_n as_o i_o have_v show_v in_o judas_n and_o caine._n and_o thus_o much_o for_o this_o question_n the_o six_o question_n
favour_n honour_n riches_n or_o any_o other_o thing_n naughty_o it_o will_v prove_v but_o a_o trouble_n 1._o from_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n although_o the_o thing_n in_o itself_o be_v good_a yet_o god_n ever_o mix_v some_o evil_n reas._n with_o it_o which_o make_v it_o bitter_a steal_v bread_n be_v sweet_a but_o god_n fill_v the_o mouth_n with_o gravel_n all_o misery_n with_o god_n favour_n be_v most_o sweet_a as_o paul_n imprisonment_n and_o whip_n and_o josephs_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a side_n all_o pleasure_n with_o god_n displeasure_n be_v bitter_a 2._o because_o sin_n make_v the_o soul_n sick_a and_o then_o it_o be_v never_o well_o until_o it_o cast_v up_o and_o thus_o judas_n the_o thirty_o piece_n burden_v his_o soul_n must_v cast_v they_o up_o many_o go_v on_o in_o sin_n and_o be_v never_o trouble_v object_n as_o in_o our_o body_n though_o there_o be_v ill_a humour_n yet_o they_o make_v not_o a_o man_n sick_a until_o they_o be_v stir_v answ._n so_o do_v not_o sin_n until_o god_n stir_v it_o as_o here_o he_o do_v in_o judas_n and_o then_o it_o make_v we_o sick_a this_o shall_v therefore_o move_v man_n to_o take_v heed_n how_o they_o turn_v sail_v for_o their_o own_o advantage_n use_v suppose_v by_o go_v from_o god_n thou_o get_v what_o thou_o will_v yet_o god_n can_v make_v that_o comfort_n to_o prove_v but_o a_o burden_n unto_o thou_o as_o he_o do_v judas_n his_o thirty_o silver_n piece_n be_v therefore_o content_a to_o lose_v all_o before_o thou_o lose_v god_n now_o follow_v the_o event_n of_o all_o he_o go_v and_o hang_v himself_o whence_o learn_v that_o god_n wrath_n and_o sin_n be_v exceed_o terrible_a and_o doctr._n unsupportable_a when_o they_o be_v once_o charge_v on_o the_o conscience_n this_o make_v judas_n to_o hang_v himself_o do_v but_o a_o little_a consider_v man_n nature_n how_o loath_a to_o destroy_v himself_o how_o afraid_a to_o be_v kill_v and_o you_o shall_v find_v it_o to_o be_v some_o great_a matter_n that_o must_v cause_v he_o to_o make_v a_o end_n of_o himself_o and_o to_o cast_v himself_o into_o that_o which_o he_o fear_v namely_o hell_n thus_o heavy_a be_v sin_n when_o god_n once_o charge_v it_o on_o the_o conscience_n that_o it_o make_v a_o man_n do_v all_o this_o indeed_o sin_n be_v as_o heavy_a before_o but_o than_o it_o lay_v at_o our_o foot_n and_o we_o feel_v it_o not_o but_o when_o god_n lay_v it_o once_o on_o our_o shoulder_n and_o on_o our_o conscience_n then_o shall_v we_o feel_v the_o burden_n thereof_o to_o be_v far_o beyond_o all_o torment_n that_o can_v be_v imagine_v see_v this_o in_o christ_n when_o god_n do_v but_o charge_v our_o sin_n on_o he_o how_o intolerable_a werethey_a now_o for_o your_o better_a understanding_n of_o this_o point_n 3._o i_o will_v first_o show_v you_o what_o this_o horror_n of_o conscience_n be_v which_o i_o will_v do_v by_o explain_v these_o five_o question_n follow_v by_o what_o mean_n be_v this_o horror_n of_o conscience_n 1._o wrought_v two_o way_n sometime_o by_o god_n own_o spirit_n answ._n sometime_o by_o satan_n first_o it_o be_v do_v by_o god_n own_o spirit_n when_o by_o it_o the_o mind_n be_v enlighten_v to_o see_v that_o he_o be_v obedience_n have_v i_o yield_v what_o thanks_n have_v i_o return_v again_o consider_v the_o excellency_n that_o be_v in_o grace_n and_o then_o consider_v sin_n that_o it_o be_v evil_a by_o nature_n that_o it_o be_v evil_a to_o i_o that_o it_o bring_v forth_o evil_a effect_n except_o you_o thus_o wise_o apply_v it_o it_o will_v not_o humble_v you_o you_o will_v not_o feel_v sin_n or_o esteem_v it_o as_o a_o burden_n because_o you_o will_v not_o see_v it_o out_o of_o its_o place_n it_o will_v be_v as_o a_o heavy_a burden_n at_o the_o foot_n which_o though_o never_o so_o heavy_a yet_o it_o be_v not_o feel_v it_o will_v not_o hurt_v a_o man_n so_o long_o as_o it_o lie_v there_o even_o so_o sin_n will_v not_o be_v a_o burden_n unto_o the_o soul_n till_o it_o be_v apply_v unto_o the_o soul_n by_o the_o spirit_n but_o when_o it_o be_v apply_v than_o it_o will_v be_v like_o a_o burden_n upon_o the_o back_n which_o a_o man_n will_v quick_o be_v weary_a of_o sin_n will_v then_o clog_n a_o regenerate_a soul_n and_o humble_v he_o and_o this_o wisdom_n we_o may_v learn_v of_o the_o devil_n himself_o when_o he_o will_v bring_v a_o man_n unto_o despair_n he_o will_v still_o hold_v out_o before_o a_o man_n his_o sin_n and_o that_o with_o aggravation_n of_o they_o that_o so_o he_o may_v come_v unto_o the_o sight_n of_o they_o and_o then_o he_o will_v hold_v out_o the_o justice_n and_o purity_n of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v not_o let_v sin_n go_v unpunished_a that_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v save_v that_o so_o a_o christian_a may_v be_v out_o of_o measure_n deject_v and_o thus_o a_o christian_a shall_v do_v if_o he_o will_v be_v humble_v let_v he_o still_o set_v sin_n before_o he_o and_o that_o not_o only_o in_o the_o general_a but_o also_o to_o apply_v it_o in_o particular_a unto_o the_o conscience_n and_o especial_o in_o case_n of_o relapse_n for_o as_o figure_n add_v to_o cipher_n do_v make_v the_o total_a the_o more_o so_o relapse_n in_o sin_n be_v a_o great_a sin_n and_o a_o particular_a notice_n of_o they_o will_v cause_v great_a humiliation_n again_o let_v man_n set_v before_o he_o sin_n against_o knowledge_n or_o great_a sin_n and_o this_o will_v be_v a_o mean_n to_o humble_v you_o for_o what_o be_v the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n but_o sin_v against_o knowledge_n upon_o a_o obstinate_a will_n in_o despite_n of_o god_n and_o the_o spirit_n and_o that_o the_o sin_n of_o knowledge_n be_v a_o great_a sin_n appear_v in_o act_n 17._o 30._o at_o the_o time_n of_o their_o ignorance_n 30._o god_n wink_v that_o be_v so_o long_o as_o you_o want_v
