heart_n deut._n 29.19_o but_o it_o follow_v not_o that_o no_o comfort_n be_v true_a because_o some_o be_v false_a or_o that_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v not_o real_a because_o those_o other_o they_o find_v their_o error_n when_o a_o christian_n carriage_n be_v uniform_a in_o the_o course_n of_o his_o life_n and_o still_o continue_v the_o same_o in_o a_o congruity_n and_o suitableness_n to_o his_o principle_n it_o can_v hardly_o be_v imagine_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v the_o effect_n of_o mere_a fancy_n but_o must_v proceed_v from_o something_o in_o he_o more_o fix_v and_o settle_v 3._o spiritual_a if_o the_o obedience_n we_o yield_v to_o god_n be_v conformable_a to_o his_o nature_n who_o be_v a_o spirit_n so_o far_o it_o be_v reasonable_a and_o that_o be_v such_o as_o christ_n require_v and_o this_o the_o reason_n he_o give_v for_o it_o john_n 4.24_o god_n be_v a_o spirit_n and_o they_o that_o worship_v he_o must_v worship_v he_o in_o spirit_n and_o in_o which_o be_v a_o serve_a god_n in_o our_o spirit_n 1.9_o spirit_n rom._n 1.9_o yet_o withal_o be_v productive_a of_o and_o manifest_v itself_o in_o a_o outward_a behaviour_n correspondent_a to_o those_o internal_a working_n see_v therefore_o that_o your_o religion_n do_v not_o consist_v mere_o in_o external_n that_o you_o make_v as_o much_o conscience_n of_o inward_a and_o heart-worship_n as_o outward_a and_o bodily_a of_o the_o act_n of_o faith_n and_o love_n as_o of_o pray_v and_o hear_v look_v as_o much_o at_o least_o to_o what_o be_v within_o as_o to_o what_o come_v out_o do_v awe_v or_o some_o way_n sway_v when_o in_o company_n with_o other_o be_v most_o apt_a to_o discover_v itself_o then_o if_o ever_o grace_n be_v work_v at_o all_o it_o will_v be_v at_o such_o a_o time_n and_o if_o none_o appear_v then_o it_o be_v odds_o but_o there_o be_v none_o in_o the_o heart_n as_o some_o corruption_n may_v be_v most_o apt_a to_o show_v themselves_o such_o be_v the_o secret_a atheism_n of_o man_n heart_n and_o little_a sense_n of_o god_n presence_n in_o secret_a when_o man_n be_v free_a from_o the_o restraint_n of_o fear_n and_o shame_n and_o such_o like_a motive_n which_o many_o time_n give_v check_v to_o and_o keep_v they_o under_o in_o the_o company_n of_o other_o so_o likewise_o grace_n may_v more_o ready_o act_v in_o secret_a where_o man_n may_v use_v such_o mean_n and_o take_v such_o liberty_n for_o the_o awaken_n and_o exciting_a it_o as_o may_v not_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o other_o be_v so_o convenient_a and_o be_v rid_v withal_o of_o some_o temptation_n corruption_n at_o any_o time_n break_v out_o you_o may_v be_v sure_a it_o be_v within_o yet_o that_o may_v not_o make_v a_o discovery_n of_o the_o habitual_a temper_n and_o disposition_n of_o your_o spirit_n nor_o argue_v that_o there_o be_v no_o grace_n in_o you_o judge_v therefore_o of_o yourselves_o by_o your_o course_n and_o ordinary_a carriage_n and_o by_o that_o you_o may_v see_v what_o be_v most_o prevalent_a in_o you_o and_o if_o you_o find_v your_o soul_n main_o look_v to_o god_n and_o respect_v his_o way_n and_o best_a please_v when_o you_o keep_v close_a to_o he_o you_o may_v be_v sure_a there_o be_v something_o more_o in_o you_o than_o a_o fancy_n or_o humour_n you_o may_v in_o some_o particular_a go_v astray_o like_v lose_v sheep_n and_o yet_o not_o forget_v god_n commandment_n psal_n 119._o last_o 2._o the_o second_o part_n of_o the_o case_n be_v how_o may_v we_o evidence_n to_o other_o that_o serious_a godliness_n in_o we_o be_v more_o than_o a_o fancy_n in_o this_o there_o seem_v to_o be_v more_o difficulty_n than_o in_o the_o former_a we_o may_v more_o easy_o satisfy_v ourselves_o concern_v our_o inward_a working_n and_o the_o temper_n of_o our_o own_o mind_n than_o we_o can_v other_o we_o judge_v of_o ourselves_o by_o our_o inward_a act_n and_o principle_n of_o which_o by_o inspect_v our_o own_o heart_n we_o have_v a_o more_o immediate_a knowledge_n and_o therefore_o be_v less_o liable_a to_o be_v deceive_v in_o our_o judgement_n but_o when_o other_o have_v to_o do_v with_o we_o they_o can_v judge_v of_o what_o be_v in_o our_o heart_n only_o by_o our_o outward_a carriage_n which_o be_v patent_n to_o they_o and_o so_o be_v liable_a to_o more_o error_n in_o their_o thought_n about_o we_o here_o therefore_o if_o we_o can_v give_v so_o clear_a proof_n and_o evident_a indication_n of_o a_o real_a principle_n in_o we_o as_o may_v work_v a_o full_a conviction_n of_o it_o in_o gainsayer_n and_o caviller_n so_o as_o to_o force_v they_o to_o a_o acknowledgement_n of_o it_o it_o may_v be_v sufficient_a if_o we_o can_v go_v so_o far_o as_o to_o stop_v their_o mouth_n and_o put_v they_o to_o silence_n 2.15_o silence_n 1_o pet._n 2.15_o that_o they_o may_v not_o be_v able_a reasonable_o to_o oppose_v what_o yet_o they_o be_v unwilling_a to_o grant_v and_o if_o it_o amount_v not_o to_o a_o demonstration_n which_o may_v overpower_v
