man_n those_o who_o fear_v god_n can_v say_v what_o shall_v a_o king_n what_o shall_v man_n what_o devil_n do_v against_o we_o but_o other_o man_n in_o their_o straits_n what_o shall_v they_o do_v for_o we_o we_o be_v in_o a_o distress_a condition_n and_o what_o shall_v they_o do_v for_o we_o but_o the_o people_n of_o god_n be_v never_o in_o such_o a_o distress_a condition_n but_o they_o be_v therefore_o though_o the_o word_n come_v after_o yet_o the_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v do_v before_o look_v that_o you_o plough_v up_o the_o fallow_a ground_n you_o have_v be_v sinful_a and_o ungodly_a in_o your_o way_n it_o will_v not_o be_v enough_o for_o you_o now_o to_o set_v upon_o some_o good_a action_n we_o will_v do_v better_o we_o will_v do_v such_o and_o such_o good_a thing_n that_o god_n require_v of_o we_o no_o that_o be_v not_o the_o first_o work_n you_o must_v fall_v upon_o but_o it_o must_v be_v to_o plough_v to_o plough_v up_o your_o fallow_a ground_n in_o this_o expression_n you_o have_v here_o employ_v 1._o first_o that_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n natural_o be_v as_o follow_v ground_n nothing_o but_o thorn_n and_o briar_n grow_v upon_o they_o they_o be_v unfit_a for_o the_o seed_n of_o the_o word_n and_o by_o this_o word_n be_v here_o mean_v these_o three_o thing_n when_o he_o bid_v they_o plough_v up_o their_o fallow_a ground_n first_o the_o work_n of_o humiliation_n the_o truth_n of_o god_n both_o of_o the_o law_n and_o of_o the_o gospel_n must_v get_v into_o their_o heart_n and_o rend_v up_o their_o heart_n even_o rend_v it_o up_o as_o the_o plough_n do_v rend_v up_o the_o ground_n and_o second_o that_o weed_n thorn_n and_o briar_n must_v be_v turn_v up_o by_o the_o root_n the_o heart_n must_v be_v clear_v of_o they_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o weed_v out_o a_o weed_n here_o and_o there_o and_o to_o pluck_v out_o a_o thorn_n here_o and_o there_o but_o plough_v up_o the_o ground_n turn_v all_o upside_o down_o and_o get_v up_o all_o the_o baggagely_fw-mi stuff_n and_o thorn_n that_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n heretofore_o and_o then_o three_o get_v a_o softness_n to_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n as_o when_o the_o ground_n be_v plough_v that_o which_o be_v before_o hard_o on_o the_o outside_n and_o bake_v by_o the_o heat_n of_o the_o sun_n be_v now_o turn_v up_o there_o be_v a_o soft_a mould_n of_o the_o ground_n and_o so_o by_o the_o softness_n of_o the_o mould_n of_o the_o ground_n it_o be_v prepare_v to_o receive_v seed_n there_o be_v many_o evil_n in_o we_o that_o we_o will_v reform_v point_n but_o we_o have_v not_o be_v humble_v for_o they_o for_o our_o ceremony_n and_o subjection_n to_o popes-head-alley_n false_a government_n of_o the_o church_n who_o have_v be_v humble_v for_o these_o thing_n as_o sin_n we_o reform_v they_o as_o thing_n inconvenient_a pauls-yard_n but_o not_o be_v humble_v for_o they_o as_o sin_n the_o very_a root_n of_o these_o thing_n be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o many_o so_o as_o if_o time_n shall_v change_v a_o distinction_n will_v serve_v their_o turn_n to_o come_v and_o submit_v to_o they_o again_o so_o that_o we_o sow_v before_o we_o plow_n 3._o i_o find_v in_o jer._n 4._o 3._o you_o have_v this_o exhortation_n even_o in_o termiminis_fw-la that_o they_o must_v plough_v up_o the_o fallow-ground_n of_o their_o heart_n only_o express_v a_o little_a further_o they_o must_v not_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o ill_a stuff_n that_o seem_v to_o be_v cast_v out_o and_o many_o good_a thing_n be_v set_v upon_o in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n that_o be_v not_o former_o yet_o you_o must_v plough_v plough_v up_o your_o fallow_a ground_n the_o holy_a ghost_n join_v of_o they_o together_o sow_v righteousness_n and_o plough_v up_o your_o fallow_a ground_n this_o note_n i_o will_v have_v you_o observe_v that_o there_o be_v some_o that_o do_v sow_n and_o not_o blow_n and_o there_o be_v other_o that_o do_v blow_n and_o not_o sow_n but_o we_o must_v join_v both_o together_o that_o may_v rend_v up_o your_o heart_n i_o will_v name_v some_o few_o truth_n that_o be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o ploughshare_n that_o you_o must_v not_o only_o know_v they_o but_o labour_n to_o get_v
they_o into_o your_o heart_n as_o first_o that_o such_o be_v the_o vileness_n of_o every_o sin_n as_o it_o separate_v the_o soul_n from_o god_n and_o put_v it_o under_o a_o eternal_a curse_n this_o one_o truth_n you_o must_v get_v this_o into_o your_o heart_n and_o get_v it_o deep_a into_o your_o heart_n it_o will_v help_v to_o unloosen_v the_o root_n of_o the_o thorn_n and_o briar_n that_o be_v there_o the_o settle_a apprehension_n of_o this_o truth_n and_o then_o second_o this_o truth_n that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o breach_n between_o god_n and_o my_o soul_n by_o sin_n that_o all_o the_o power_n in_o all_o the_o creature_n in_o heaven_n and_o earth_n be_v not_o able_a to_o make_v up_o this_o breach_n here_o be_v a_o sharp_a ploughshare_n to_o get_v into_o the_o heart_n and_o then_o three_o this_o truth_n that_o by_o nature_n i_o be_o full_a of_o this_o sin_n my_o heart_n be_v full_a of_o it_o all_o the_o faculty_n of_o my_o soul_n be_v fill_v with_o sin_n that_o be_v of_o such_o a_o heinous_a nature_n here_o be_v a_o sharp_a ploughshare_n to_o get_v into_o the_o heart_n and_o then_o four_a that_o every_o action_n that_o ever_o i_o have_v do_v in_o all_o my_o life_n in_o my_o be_v but_o the_o spiritualness_n of_o the_o law_n the_o truth_n of_o the_o law_n in_o a_o gospel_n way_n for_o you_o must_v take_v notice_n that_o the_o law_n as_o law_n accept_v of_o no_o humiliation_n for_o sin_n it_o be_v as_o it_o be_v reveal_v in_o a_o gospel_n way_n in_o a_o gospel_n way_n it_o do_v tend_v to_o humiliation_n for_o let_v man_n be_v humble_v never_o so_o much_o the_o law_n never_o accept_v of_o they_o for_o their_o humiliation_n but_o the_o law_n in_o a_o gospel_n way_n so_o it_o come_v to_o humble_v the_o soul_n so_o as_o to_o do_v it_o good_a now_o therefore_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o truth_n that_o the_o law_n require_v have_v reference_n to_o the_o gospel_n they_o serve_v for_o the_o humble_v of_o the_o soul_n now_o get_v in_o these_o truth_n and_o see_v what_o they_o will_v do_v in_o thy_o soul_n you_o must_v work_v they_o in_o and_o let_v conscience_n be_v put_v on_o to_o draw_v this_o plough_n these_o be_v as_o the_o ploughshare_n and_o the_o work_n of_o conscience_n be_v the_o draw_v of_o this_o plough_n while_o the_o plough_n stop_v as_o when_o it_o meet_v with_o a_o thorn_n and_o briar_n now_o a_o strong_a conscience_n will_v draw_v it_o on_o and_o will_v make_v the_o thorn_n and_o briar_n to_o be_v rend_v up_o by_o the_o root_n if_o the_o conscience_n be_v put_v upon_o with_o strength_n to_o draw_v these_o truth_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o though_o they_o put_v you_o to_o pain_n yet_o you_o must_v be_v content_a to_o draw_v they_o on_o in_o the_o soul_n and_o if_o these_o and_o the_o like_a truth_n be_v get_v into_o thy_o soul_n and_o thou_o be_v at_o plough_n and_o thy_o conscience_n be_v draw_v this_o be_v that_o i_o shall_v say_v god_n speed_v the_o blow_n yea_o god_n speed_v these_o truth_n that_o conscience_n be_v draw_v on_o in_o the_o soul_n for_o it_o may_v tend_v to_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o good_a to_o prepare_v thou_o for_o the_o seed_n that_o may_v bring_v forth_o righteousness_n and_o mercy_n to_o thy_o soul_n for_o ever_o i_o confess_v it_o be_v a_o hard_a work_n to_o be_v thus_o plough_v indeed_o for_o man_n and_o woman_n only_o to_o hear_v sermon_n and_o be_v talk_v and_o confer_v of_o good_a thing_n these_o thing_n be_v pretty_a easy_a but_o to_o go_v to_o plough_v to_o plough_v with_o such_o truth_n as_o these_o be_v to_o get_v up_o the_o thorn_n and_o briar_n by_o the_o root_n this_o be_v a_o very_a hard_a task_n but_o we_o must_v be_v willing_a to_o do_v it_o and_o to_o continue_v plough_v as_o the_o fallow_a ground_n must_v not_o only_o be_v plough_v once_o plough_v but_o it_o may_v be_v it_o may_v stand_v in_o need_n of_o plough_v the_o second_o and_o three_o time_n before_o it_o may_v be_v fit_a for_o the_o seed_n to_o be_v cast_v in_o and_o so_o it_o must_v be_v with_o our_o heart_n it_o may_v be_v some_o of_o you_o have_v get_v in_o some_o truth_n again_o and_o you_o have_v be_v plough_v yea_o but_o since_o that_o time_n you_o have_v have_v many_o weed_n and_o thorn_n grow_v up_o and_o you_o must_v to_o plough_v again_o it_o may_v be_v it_o be_v divers_a year_n ago_o since_o you_o have_v be_v thus_o plough_v after_o and_o your_o heart_n have_v lie_v fallow_a all_o this_o while_n do_v not_o think_v it_o enough_o that_o once_o you_o have_v be_v humble_v but_o be_v often_o plough_v up_o this_o fallow_a ground_n you_o be_v as_o good_a have_v the_o plough_n get_v into_o your_o heart_n though_o it_o be_v sharp_a as_o to_o have_v the_o sword_n of_o god_n justice_n be_v upon_o you_o we_o have_v in_o these_o time_n a_o wanton_a generation_n that_o have_v rise_v up_o that_o can_v endure_v to_o go_v to_o plough_v they_o will_v be_v do_v nothing_o but_o take_v in_o the_o sweet_a as_o i_o tell_v you_o before_o in_o a_o former_a exercise_n tread_v â—ut_v the_o corn._n but_o this_o plough_v they_o cry_v out_o of_o mere_o through_o a_o wantonness_n and_o tenderness_n of_o their_o spirit_n a_o sinful_a tenderness_n because_o they_o will_v have_v nothing_o but_o jollity_n and_o licentiousness_n in_o their_o heart_n and_o way_n ylowman_n yet_o the_o scripture_n in_o luke_n 9_o 62._o compare_v the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o the_o plough_n he_o that_o put_v his_o haud_z to_o the_o plough_n and_o look_v back_o be_v not_o fit_a for_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n not_o fit_a to_o be_v employ_v in_o the_o administration_n of_o the_o gospel_n though_o these_o man_n cry_v out_o so_o much_o of_o humiliation_n for_o sin_n which_o be_v as_o strange_a a_o generation_n as_o ever_o have_v rise_v up_o that_o shall_v cry_v out_o of_o that_o when_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o humble_v for_o sin_n than_o the_o price_n that_o be_v pay_v for_o sin_n in_o the_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o there_o be_v no_o such_o sharp_a ploughshare_n as_o that_o if_o i_o be_v to_o preach_v one_o sermon_n in_o all_o my_o life_n for_o the_o humble_v of_o man_n for_o sin_n i_o will_v take_v a_o text_n that_o may_v show_v the_o great_a price_n that_o be_v pay_v for_o it_o and_o therein_o open_a the_o breach_n that_o sin_n have_v make_v between_o god_n and_o man_n soul_n but_o they_o will_v not_o make_v use_n of_o the_o gospel_n neither_o so_o much_o as_o to_o be_v a_o plough_n to_o plough_v the_o heart_n for_o the_o work_n of_o humiliation_n well_o humiliation_n god_n have_v prosper_v this_o work_n heretofore_o and_o notwithstanding_o all_o the_o wantonness_n of_o man_n spirit_n this_o way_n yet_o i_o say_v still_o god_n speed_v the_o plough_n god_n speed_v this_o way_n of_o plough_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n and_o get_v in_o those_o truth_n that_o do_v humble_a the_o heart_n of_o man_n for_o their_o sin_n these_o be_v the_o truth_n that_o god_n have_v blessed_v in_o former_a time_n and_o there_o be_v none_o that_o ever_o do_v live_v to_o the_o honour_n of_o the_o gospel_n so_o much_o for_o this_o generation_n that_o be_v come_v up_o they_o talk_v of_o the_o gospel_n but_o they_o live_v not_o to_o the_o honour_n of_o it_o the_o gospel_n have_v not_o honour_n by_o they_o nor_o jesus_n christ_n have_v not_o honour_n by_o they_o but_o the_o former_a generation_n of_o man_n though_o in_o some_o thing_n they_o may_v fail_v yet_o certain_o god_n bless_a they_o in_o their_o way_n so_o far_o as_o it_o be_v according_a to_o truth_n no_o marvel_n though_o these_o man_n bring_v forth_o such_o little_a fruit_n of_o righteousness_n reason_n it_o be_v because_o they_o sow_v among_o thorn_n 21._o present_o they_o be_v up_o at_o the_o top_n and_o so_o confident_a present_o in_o their_o way_n their_o seed_n be_v among_o thorn_n and_o therefore_o it_o do_v not_o prosper_v and_o thus_o much_o for_o this_o expression_n about_o the_o plough_v up_o of_o fallow_a ground_n both_o in_o reference_n to_o general_a reformation_n and_o humiliation_n and_o concern_v man_n soul_n in_o particular_a it_o follow_v for_o it_o be_v time_n to_o seek_v the_o lord_n it_o be_v time_n 1._o first_o mercy_n yet_o you_o have_v time_n to_o seek_v the_o lord_n it_o be_v well_o for_o you_o that_o you_o have_v
therefore_o bless_a be_v they_o that_o wait_v for_o he_o think_v of_o this_o and_o deny_v your_o own_o judgement_n and_o your_o own_o thought_n and_o know_v that_o you_o be_v wait_v upon_o god_n that_o be_v a_o god_n of_o judgement_n that_o be_v infinite_o wise_a to_o come_v to_o his_o people_n in_o a_o fit_a season_n and_o to_o come_v so_o that_o at_o last_o you_o will_v not_o wish_v that_o he_o have_v come_v soon_o and_o know_v that_o all_o the_o while_o you_o be_v wait_v god_n be_v work_v good_a we_o be_v wait_v upon_o man_n door_n and_o they_o take_v no_o notice_n of_o it_o but_o if_o we_o know_v that_o all_o the_o time_n we_o be_v a_o wait_a our_o petition_n be_v a_o read_n and_o they_o in_o consultation_n about_o it_o and_o we_o only_o wait_v for_o the_o issue_n of_o the_o
