delightful_a to_o i_o but_o now_o i_o will_v rather_o have_v any_o burden_n upon_o i_o then_o this_o i_o do_v before_o think_v that_o those_o that_o want_v the_o comfort_n of_o the_o creature_n and_o be_v outward_o poor_a and_o mean_v be_v miserable_a but_o now_o have_v i_o all_o the_o outward_a misery_n in_o the_o world_n upon_o my_o back_n i_o have_v rather_o bear_v they_o all_o then_o this_o burden_n i_o have_v feel_v much_o affliction_n in_o my_o day_n but_o this_o burden_n and_o this_o weight_n be_v most_o grievous_a and_o heavy_a of_o all_o oh_o if_o the_o lord_n will_v but_o take_v off_o this_o weight_n and_o this_o burden_n from_o i_o let_v he_o lay_v what_o weight_n and_o burden_n upon_o i_o he_o wil._n thus_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v right_o burden_v with_o sin_n be_v affect_v the_o eight_o burden_n of_o sin_n eight_o again_o though_o it_o feel_v much_o weight_n of_o sin_n upon_o it_o yet_o in_o all_o this_o it_o justify_v god_n and_o do_v not_o think_v hard_a thought_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o the_o heavy_a hand_n of_o god_n be_v upon_o he_o it_o be_v true_a i_o feel_v god_n heavy_a hand_n be_v upon_o i_o and_o press_v i_o sore_o but_o yet_o god_n hand_n be_v just_a he_o be_v righteous_a in_o all_o this_o let_v he_o have_v glory_n whatsoever_o become_v of_o i_o for_o the_o truth_n be_v i_o have_v bring_v this_o burden_n upon_o myself_o there_o be_v a_o time_n that_o i_o heap_v up_o one_o sin_n after_o another_o as_o if_o i_o can_v never_o have_v have_v weight_n enough_o upon_o i_o but_o now_o i_o find_v it_o heavy_a oh_o the_o sin_n of_o my_o youth_n they_o lie_v heavy_a now_o upon_o my_o soul_n my_o lie_a and_o swear_v and_o the_o loss_n of_o my_o time_n and_o my_o saboth-breaking_a oh_o the_o lord_n be_v righteous_a in_o all_o his_o though_o it_o be_v under_o such_o a_o burden_n as_o be_v almost_o intolerable_a yet_o it_o be_v not_o sink_v down_o in_o despare_n under_o its_o burden_n as_o a_o beast_n while_o it_o be_v under_o a_o burden_n for_o a_o little_a while_n it_o will_v struggle_v and_o strive_v under_o it_o but_o afterward_o it_o will_v lie_v down_o and_o be_v sullen_a and_o die_v under_o it_o but_o now_o those_o that_o be_v burden_v with_o sin_n in_o such_o a_o manner_n as_o the_o lord_n do_v use_v to_o prepare_v the_o heart_n for_o his_o sonn_n by_o they_o feel_v the_o weight_n indeed_o of_o it_o but_o so_o feel_v the_o weight_n as_o they_o labour_v that_o be_v their_o heart_n be_v yet_o active_a and_o stir_a and_o work_v attend_v still_o upon_o any_o direction_n that_o god_n have_v to_o give_v they_o out_o of_o his_o word_n their_o heart_n do_v keep_v active_a and_o cry_v to_o god_n and_o weight_a to_o know_v what_o the_o mind_n of_o god_n be_v towards_o they_o and_o be_v willing_a to_o do_v any_o thing_n that_o god_n shall_v require_v of_o they_o they_o do_v not_o lie_v sullen_a and_o dead_a as_o it_o be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o their_o sin_n now_o if_o there_o be_v any_o soul_n in_o this_o condition_n express_v in_o the_o nine_o particular_n before_o mention_v if_o there_o be_v any_o such_o as_o these_o know_v that_o these_o be_v they_o that_o christ_n do_v in_o a_o more_o especial_a manner_n call_v unto_o and_o say_v come_v to_o i_o you_o that_o be_v thus_o weary_a and_o heavy_a lade_v and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_n chap._n iu._n two_o caution_n touch_v the_o burden_n of_o sin_n 1._o that_o it_o be_v no_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n 2_o that_o it_o do_v not_o interest_n the_o soul_n in_o christ_n nor_o give_v it_o rest_n in_o he_o whereunto_o certain_a consequence_n be_v annex_v now_o i_o must_v lay_v down_o two_o caution_n before_o i_o come_v to_o give_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o point_n object_n you_o will_v say_v what_o do_v there_o be_v no_o such_o thing_n require_v answ_n to_o that_o i_o answer_v that_o all_o this_o burden_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o sin_n be_v not_o any_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n that_o must_v be_v grant_v there_o be_v no_o other_o condition_n but_o believe_v in_o christ_n it_o be_v not_o look_v upon_o as_o a_o condition_n in_o the_o second_o place_n you_o must_v know_v that_o all_o this_o burden_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o sin_n it_o do_v not_o interest_n the_o soul_n in_o christ_n nor_o give_v it_o rest_n in_o christ_n i_o may_v be_v thus_o burden_v for_o sin_n yet_o except_o i_o do_v believe_v indeed_o that_o there_o be_v a_o act_n of_o faith_n beyond_o this_o i_o shall_v not_o obtain_v rest_n then_o hence_o we_o must_v not_o ground_v our_o faith_n upon_o be_v be_v trouble_v for_o sin_n you_o must_v not_o think_v that_o this_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n nor_o you_o must_v not_o make_v this_o the_o object_n of_o your_o faith_n as_o to_o think_v thus_o because_o i_o be_o thus_o trouble_v therefore_o i_o may_v believe_v that_o my_o sin_n be_v pardon_v no_o i_o must_v not_o pitch_v my_o faith_n upon_o my_o own_o trouble_n but_o upon_o the_o trouble_n of_o jesus_n christ_n those_o trouble_n that_o the_o soul_n of_o jesus_n christ_n do_v endure_v by_o way_n of_o satisfaction_n first_o then_o hence_o will_v follow_v that_o it_o be_v not_o any_o degree_n of_o trouble_n for_o sin_n how_o much_o soever_o one_o have_v be_v trouble_v for_o sin_n or_o how_o little_a soever_o that_o give_v they_o interest_n or_o not_o interest_n in_o christ_n i_o say_v it_o be_v not_o the_o measure_n of_o it_o for_o certain_o if_o we_o can_v come_v to_o christ_n without_o any_o burden_n or_o sense_n of_o our_o sin_n if_o it_o be_v possible_a that_o we_o can_v come_v to_o christ_n i_o say_v without_o any_o such_o be_v burden_v for_o sin_n we_o may_v but_o because_o that_o jesus_n christ_n do_v work_v upon_o the_o heart_n in_o a_o rational_a way_n as_o a_o rational_a creature_n although_o he_o do_v work_n above_o reason_n and_o convey_v supernatural_a grace_n that_o be_v beyond_o reason_n yet_o still_o he_o do_v work_n upon_o the_o heart_n as_o a_o rational_a creature_n now_o therefore_o the_o work_n of_o reason_n must_v be_v make_v subservient_fw-fr to_o the_o work_n of_o god_n grace_n usual_o when_o the_o lord_n work_v upon_o a_o soul_n he_o make_v use_v of_o the_o work_n of_o reason_n to_o make_v that_o subservient_fw-fr to_o the_o work_n of_o his_o grace_n now_o because_o no_o man_n can_v come_v to_o a_o saviour_n but_o he_o must_v know_v what_o need_n he_o have_v of_o a_o saviour_n therefore_o if_o i_o come_v to_o christ_n as_o a_o saviour_n to_o save_v my_o soul_n from_o sin_n i_o must_v apprehend_v what_o sin_n be_v that_o i_o may_v be_v sensible_a of_o it_o second_o if_o god_n do_v work_v upon_o the_o soul_n as_o a_o rational_a creature_n than_o he_o make_v use_v of_o this_o to_o be_v a_o mean_n to_o stop_v the_o soul_n in_o the_o course_n of_o sin_n for_o before_o the_o sinner_n be_v make_v sensible_a of_o the_o evil_a of_o his_o sin_n he_o go_v on_o in_o a_o full_a carear_n as_o it_o be_v and_o nothing_o will_v stop_v he_o in_o his_o course_n but_o now_o when_o the_o soul_n come_v to_o be_v thus_o burden_v the_o soul_n it_o stop_v and_o do_v not_o run_v in_o that_o full_a stream_n of_o wickedness_n as_o it_o do_v before_o and_o

off_o from_o whatsoever_o you_o be_v settle_v upon_o heretofore_o that_o so_o you_o may_v be_v remove_v from_o thence_o and_o that_o you_o may_v take_v another_o course_n for_o your_o life_n in_o more_o desire_n then_o to_o have_v somewhat_o some_o stock_n of_o himself_o to_o live_v upon_o and_o indeed_o herein_o man_n come_v to_o be_v more_o humble_a than_o adam_n in_o innocency_n can_v be_v for_o adam_n have_v a_o stock_n to_o live_v upon_o in_o his_o own_o hand_n to_o live_v upon_o in_o himself_o not_o but_o god_n be_v the_o principle_n of_o it_o but_o then_o god_n give_v it_o he_o to_o their_o end_n what_o be_v that_o you_o will_v say_v their_o end_n be_v that_o they_o may_v have_v peace_n with_o god_n live_v and_o have_v eternal_a life_n it_o be_v true_a base_a hypocrite_n look_v at_o profit_n many_o will_v make_v a_o show_n of_o religion_n get_v into_o house_n and_o talk_v of_o good_a thing_n that_o they_o may_v get_v good_a cheer_n meat_n and_o drink_n and_o a_o little_a gain_n be_v of_o a_o poor_a and_o unworthy_a spirit_n but_o i_o speak_v of_o those_o that_o be_v grow_v high_a than_o thuâ—_n those_o that_o perform_v duty_n out_o of_o conscience_n and_o yet_o never_o attain_v to_o their_o end_n nor_o never_o will_v attain_v to_o their_o end_n in_o this_o way_n till_o they_o come_v to_o know_v more_o of_o christ_n i_o speak_v of_o such_o as_o desire_v rest_n to_o their_o soul_n yet_o in_o this_o way_n of_o legal_a performance_n never_o gain_v this_o rest_n to_o their_o soul_n and_o and_o therefore_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v burdensome_a unto_o they_o the_o 9_o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n 9_o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o mere_a legal_a way_n they_o go_v on_o and_o perform_v duty_n but_o whether_o god_n accept_v of_o they_o yea_o or_o no_o they_o can_v tell_v do_v they_o they_o must_v but_o whether_o god_n be_v their_o enemy_n or_o their_o friend_n they_o can_v tell_v tender_v up_o duty_n to_o god_n they_o do_v every_o day_n but_o whether_o they_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o a_o enemy_n or_o a_o friend_n they_o do_v not_o know_v sometime_o they_o have_v perhaps_o some_o good_a hope_n that_o god_n accept_v they_o but_o never_o come_v to_o any_o knowledge_n of_o god_n acceptance_n they_o go_v up_o and_o down_o continual_o with_o jealous_a thought_n of_o god_n fear_v leaâ—â—od_a will_v take_v advantage_n of_o they_o at_o the_o last_o this_o musâ—â—e_o burdensome_a many_o poor_a soul_n have_v go_v on_o in_o tâ—â—tion_n one_o seven_o year_n after_o another_o and_o all_o for_o thâ—_n of_o come_v to_o jesus_n christ_n for_o rest_n unto_o their_o soul_n then_o come_v rest_n to_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o sinner_n when_o it_o know_v and_o can_v say_v upon_o good_a ground_n though_o my_o heart_n have_v much_o corruption_n though_o my_o duty_n have_v much_o imperfection_n yet_o through_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n what_o i_o do_v the_o lord_n accept_v of_o i_o whereas_o the_o other_o never_o come_v to_o know_v that_o god_n do_v accept_v they_o though_o they_o perform_v their_o duty_n never_o so_o well_o the_o 10._o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n 10._o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o of_o such_o a_o thing_n at_o such_o a_o time_n will_v hinder_v the_o do_v of_o other_o duty_n that_o god_n require_v of_o they_o but_o yet_o do_v it_o they_o must_v i_o do_v not_o say_v duty_n be_v not_o to_o be_v do_v at_o this_o time_n but_o such_o thing_n as_o conscience_n tell_v they_o be_v good_a they_o be_v hurry_v on_o to_o do_v they_o present_o though_o in_o regard_n of_o their_o weakness_n the_o do_v of_o they_o now_o do_v hinder_v they_o from_o do_v other_o thing_n of_o more_o consequence_n as_o we_o find_v by_o experience_n many_o that_o be_v weak_a yet_o under_o the_o command_n of_o conscience_n and_o be_v in_o a_o legal_a way_n sudden_o there_o come_v such_o a_o thing_n into_o their_o
all_o and_o yet_o you_o do_v not_o cry_v out_o but_o paul_n he_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o guilt_n of_o his_o sin_n yet_o the_o very_a remainder_n of_o sin_n in_o his_o heart_n be_v a_o burden_n strict_a in_o your_o way_n you_o will_v loose_v all_o your_o comfort_n for_o such_o and_o such_o be_v always_o sad_a and_o pensive_a but_o do_v you_o know_v what_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o their_o sadness_n you_o have_v as_o much_o cause_n to_o be_v sad_a as_o they_o the_o burden_n be_v not_o because_o they_o be_v religious_a but_o because_o they_o be_v no_o more_o religious_a not_o because_o now_o they_o do_v more_o duty_n than_o they_o do_v before_o but_o because_o they_o can_v find_v their_o heart_n come_v up_o to_o their_o duty_n as_o they_o will_v do_v not_o attribute_n their_o grief_n to_o their_o godliness_n but_o rather_o say_v to_o thyself_o thus_o if_o they_o that_o do_v so_o much_o for_o god_n be_v yet_o so_o much_o trouble_v and_o grieve_v because_o they_o do_v no_o more_o for_o god_n how_o much_o cause_n of_o trouble_n and_o grief_n have_v i_o then_o that_o do_v nothing_o at_o all_o for_o god_n the_o second_o burden_n of_o corruption_n second_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n it_o be_v a_o burden_n of_o shame_n grief_n be_v a_o burden_n and_o shame_n be_v a_o burden_n many_o that_o can_v bear_v great_a burden_n that_o can_v bear_v the_o burden_n of_o poverty_n yet_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v the_o burden_n of_o disgrace_n especial_o to_o those_o that_o be_v most_o ingenious_a it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o great_a burden_n in_o the_o world_n now_o the_o saint_n they_o be_v ashamed_a of_o the_o corruption_n that_o remain_v in_o they_o they_o account_v it_o a_o shame_n before_o the_o lord_n and_o before_o his_o bless_a angel_n and_o in_o regard_n of_o themselves_o what_o they_o know_v of_o themselves_o that_o the_o world_n know_v not_o of_o they_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o ashame_n that_o they_o do_v even_o loath_a and_o abhor_v themselves_o as_o the_o scripture_n speak_v it_o may_v be_v their_o life_n be_v such_o as_o other_o do_v honour_n and_o have_v high_a thought_n of_o they_o but_o they_o be_v acquaint_v with_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o look_v into_o the_o secret_a work_n of_o their_o own_o spirit_n they_o see_v so_o much_o evil_n there_o as_o they_o see_v much_o cause_n to_o abhor_v and_o loathe_v themselves_o and_o to_o lie_v down_o in_o their_o shame_n before_o the_o lord_n who_o they_o know_v do_v see_v into_o their_o heart_n a_o great_a deal_n more_o than_o they_o can_v see_v themselves_o i_o will_v appeal_v to_o any_o one_o that_o know_v his_o own_o heart_n if_o god_n shall_v open_v your_o heart_n and_o make_v it_o know_v to_o your_o friend_n and_o acquaintance_n so_o much_o evil_a as_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n in_o the_o perform_n of_o one_o duty_n if_o all_o man_n shall_v know_v so_o much_o evil_a as_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n at_o one_o time_n in_o prayer_n or_o hear_v a_o sermon_n will_v you_o not_o be_v ashamed_a now_o god_n know_v and_o see_v all_o the_o baseness_n and_o vildness_n of_o your_o spirit_n and_o the_o godly_a know_v this_o they_o can_v but_o be_v ashamed_a and_o go_v under_o this_o burden_n of_o shame_n with_o heavy_a heart_n the_o three_o burden_n of_o corruption_n three_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o godly_a it_o carry_v with_o it_o a_o burden_n of_o fear_n fear_v you_o know_v be_v a_o great_a burden_n as_o well_o as_o grief_n and_o shame_n though_o the_o evil_n be_v not_o so_o great_a upon_o they_o yet_o if_o their_o be_v a_o evil_n apprehend_v to_o come_v upon_o they_o it_o be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o they_o as_o those_o that_o dare_v not_o go_v out_o of_o door_n in_o the_o night_n because_o of_o fear_n or_o dare_v not_o be_v in_o the_o dark_a because_o of_o fear_n when_o they_o be_v deliver_v from_o their_o fear_n do_v they_o not_o account_v that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a burden_n now_o the_o godly_a they_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o fear_n upon_o their_o heart_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v those_o that_o be_v godly_a they_o fear_v more_o what_o their_o own_o evil_a heart_n shall_v bring_v upon_o they_o than_o what_o all_o the_o devil_n in_o hell_n and_o all_o the_o creature_n in_o the_o world_n can_v bring_v upon_o they_o and_o that_o be_v a_o good_a fear_n but_o yet_o it_o make_v they_o walk_v heavy_o other_o fear_v sometime_o they_o fear_v man_n fear_v those_o that_o will_v come_v and_o take_v away_o their_o estate_n and_o undo_v they_o fear_v their_o enemy_n or_o fear_v the_o devil_n but_o one_o that_o be_v godly_a he_o fear_v more_o his_o own_o heart_n the_o evil_a that_o may_v come_v to_o his_o soul_n by_o that_o than_o all_o the_o hurt_n that_o all_o the_o devil_n in_o hell_n can_v do_v to_o he_o for_o they_o can_v afflict_v more_o than_o the_o body_n i_o but_o this_o bring_v a_o evil_a upon_o the_o soul_n it_o break_v their_o communion_n between_o they_o and_o god_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v afraid_a of_o sin_n before_o it_o come_v they_o have_v experience_n of_o their_o heart_n what_o evil_a it_o have_v do_v to_o they_o and_o so_o be_v afraid_a of_o miscarry_v and_o afraid_a of_o the_o evil_a consequence_n of_o their_o sin_n they_o do_v not_o know_v what_o mischief_n their_o sin_n may_v possible_o bring_v upon_o they_o and_o so_o they_o go_v under_o this_o burden_n of_o fear_n along_o time_n together_o even_o those_o that_o be_v true_o godly_a the_o four_o burden_n of_o corruption_n four_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o and_o upon_o that_o the_o good_a man_n begin_v to_o weep_v just_o so_o say_v he_o it_o be_v with_o i_o i_o will_v fain_o get_v up_o to_o god_n fain_o will_v have_v communion_n with_o god_n and_o sometime_o i_o be_o get_v up_o to_o god_n but_o straightway_o there_o be_v a_o weight_n that_o pull_v i_o down_o do_v not_o you_o find_v it_o thus_o you_o that_o be_v conversant_a with_o god_n you_o that_o get_v sometime_o alone_o in_o duty_n to_o god_n and_o you_o will_v fain_o have_v your_o heart_n raise_v to_o god_n but_o how_o be_v your_o heart_n bring_v down_o again_o and_o not_o only_o in_o corrupt_a nature_n that_o be_v in_o you_o iii_o three_o corrupt_a nature_n be_v a_o burden_n because_o it_o afford_v matter_n for_o any_o temptation_n in_o the_o world_n there_o be_v no_o temptation_n to_o any_o kind_n of_o sin_n but_o our_o nature_n afford_v matter_n for_o all_o kind_n of_o temptation_n what_o a_o burden_n be_v this_o if_o a_o ship_n be_v on_o fire_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o other_o ship_n and_o we_o know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o gunpowder_n in_o the_o ship_n that_o be_v on_o fire_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o rest_n will_v not_o he_o that_o owe_v the_o ship_n be_v afraid_a and_o will_v he_o not_o toil_n and_o use_v all_o mean_n he_o can_v that_o the_o fire_n may_v not_o take_v hold_n of_o the_o gunpowder_n i_o compare_v all_o the_o temptation_n to_o sin_n about_o we_o unto_o the_o fire_n now_o we_o be_v compass_v about_o with_o the_o fire_n and_o what_o be_v our_o heart_n in_o they_o there_o be_v matter_n for_o the_o cast_v upon_o one_o that_o will_v be_v more_o unsavoury_a so_o it_o be_v here_o may_v be_v the_o devil_n may_v bring_v some_o temptation_n upon_o we_o and_o make_v some_o disturbance_n in_o our_o heart_n i_o but_o there_o be_v that_o in_o our_o heart_n that_o will_v make_v as_o great_a a_o disturbance_n in_o our_o soul_n as_o the_o devil_n can_v v._o last_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o our_o though_o christ_n take_v care_n that_o all_o the_o damp_n of_o thy_o corruption_n shall_v not_o put_v out_o thy_o candle_n yet_o god_n sometime_o dim_v this_o candle_n that_o it_o do_v not_o shine_v sometime_o take_v away_o the_o beauty_n liveliness_n and_o activity_n of_o thy_o grace_n that_o though_o thou_o have_v some_o life_n and_o burn_n yet_o thou_o burn_v but_o dim_o before_o other_o with_o who_o thou_o do_v converse_v i_o do_v not_o now_o speak_v of_o the_o stir_n of_o sin_n the_o work_n of_o sin_n that_o be_v the_o next_o thing_n that_o i_o shall_v open_v how_o that_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n as_o for_o
and_o earth_n upon_o the_o frame_n or_o keep_v it_o in_o be_v the_o lord_n do_v not_o appear_v more_o to_o be_v a_o almighty_a god_n in_o keep_v heaven_n and_o earth_n in_o be_v than_o he_o do_v appear_v to_o be_v a_o almighty_a god_n in_o keep_v grace_n alive_a in_o the_o heart_n notwithstanding_o all_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n so_o that_o in_o this_o god_n have_v glory_n in_o another_o way_n than_o he_o have_v from_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n the_o power_n of_o god_n appear_v in_o uphold_v of_o the_o angel_n for_o if_o he_o do_v not_o uphold_v they_o they_o will_v fall_v into_o evil_n as_o adam_n and_o the_o other_o angel_n do_v but_o therein_o appear_v god_n glorious_a power_n to_o uphold_v the_o angel_n but_o the_o glorious_a power_n in_o uphold_v the_o angel_n do_v not_o so_o much_o appear_v as_o the_o glorious_a power_n of_o god_n in_o uphold_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o their_o corruption_n this_o shall_v be_v a_o special_a argument_n that_o the_o saint_n shall_v praise_v god_n for_o to_o all_o eternity_n when_o they_o shall_v look_v back_o and_o see_v what_o a_o condition_n they_o be_v in_o before_o their_o conversion_n yea_o in_o their_o conversion_n that_o though_o god_n grant_v they_o some_o grace_n yet_o what_o abundance_n of_o corruption_n be_v in_o their_o heart_n all_o that_o time_n and_o what_o a_o deal_n of_o stir_n they_o have_v to_o maintain_v that_o little_a grace_n they_o will_v stand_v and_o admire_v to_o consider_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v keep_v alive_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o sin_n that_o a_o little_a spark_n shall_v be_v keep_v alive_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o sea_n not_o only_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o sea_n but_o when_o the_o sea_n be_v tempestuous_a you_o yil_v say_v it_o be_v no_o great_a wonder_n that_o the_o fire_n be_v keep_v burn_v when_o the_o sea_n be_v calm_a but_o when_o all_o be_v in_o a_o storm_n and_o yet_o a_o spark_n of_o fire_n shall_v be_v keep_v alive_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o the_o toss_n of_o the_o wave_n you_o will_v grant_v here_o be_v a_o mighty_a power_n now_o the_o keep_v alive_a of_o grace_n in_o thy_o heart_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o so_o much_o corruption_n do_v argue_v as_o mighty_a a_o power_n in_o god_n 2._o the_o lord_n do_v so_o order_v it_o that_o still_o his_o own_o people_n shall_v be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o much_o coruption_n in_o this_o regard_n because_o that_o hereby_o the_o lord_n draw_v forth_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n in_o his_o son_n in_o which_o his_o soul_n take_v infinite_a delight_n the_o soul_n of_o god_n take_v infinite_a delight_n in_o behold_v the_o work_n of_o the_o glorious_a grace_n of_o faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n but_o you_o will_v say_v wherein_o do_v it_o appear_v to_o be_v so_o glorious_a in_o regard_n of_o our_o corruption_n thus_o for_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n to_o believe_v in_o god_n that_o he_o will_v be_v eternal_o good_a to_o they_o it_o be_v not_o so_o for_o all_o this_o my_o soul_n shall_v cling_v to_o he_o i_o will_v cast_v myself_o upon_o he_o and_o look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o gracious_a father_n a_o merciful_a god_n a_o god_n that_o love_v i_o a_o god_n that_o rejoice_v in_o do_v good_a to_o i_o for_o the_o soul_n to_o exercise_v faith_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n it_o be_v a_o glorious_a thing_n only_o take_v heed_n you_o do_v not_o mistake_v it_o for_o presumption_n object_n you_o will_v say_v for_o man_n notwithstanding_o all_o their_o sin_n to_o believe_v in_o god_n mercy_n this_o be_v rather_o presumption_n than_o faith_n answ_n true_o it_o be_v presumpion_n in_o many_o they_o mistake_v themselves_o but_o in_o other_o it_o be_v true_a faith_n and_o god_n delight_v in_o it_o and_o you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o this_o it_o do_v draw_v the_o heart_n to_o god_n and_o the_o soul_n never_o find_v such_o a_o prevalent_a way_n to_o overcome_v those_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o it_o as_o to_o exercise_v their_o faith_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n i_o beseech_v you_o mark_v the_o difference_n between_o presumption_n and_o faith_n in_o christ_n presumption_n will_v trust_v in_o god_n mercy_n notwithstanding_o their_o sin_n but_o that_o do_v indeed_o foment_n their_o sin_n and_o make_v they_o secure_a in_o their_o sin_n make_v they_o the_o more_o secure_a in_o their_o sin_n but_o now_o when_o the_o soul_n shall_v by_o the_o true_a geminine_a act_n of_o faith_n rest_n in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o corruption_n if_o it_o be_v right_a such_o a_o soul_n feel_v no_o mean_n in_o the_o world_n of_o great_a efficacy_n to_o cure_v and_o prevail_v against_o corruption_n then_o this_o to_o trust_v in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o corruption_n and_o if_o thou_o find_v it_o thus_o thou_o have_v no_o cause_n to_o fear_v trust_v in_o god_n grace_n with_o confidence_n for_o it_o be_v that_o which_o be_v well_o please_v unto_o god_n and_o that_o which_o the_o lord_n delight_v in_o and_o that_o which_o give_v as_o much_o content_n to_o god_n heart_n as_o the_o exercise_n of_o any_o grace_n whatsoever_o and_o in_o that_o regard_n because_o there_o not_o come_v as_o strong_a cry_n to_o heaven_n upon_o the_o sense_n of_o your_o corruption_n as_o upon_o the_o sense_n of_o any_o affliction_n whatsoever_o 4._o the_o lord_n have_v glory_n in_o this_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o the_o work_n of_o repentance_n and_o humility_n the_o keep_v the_o soul_n of_o his_o people_n in_o humility_n and_o the_o contrition_n of_o their_o spirit_n that_o be_v exceed_o please_a to_o god_n the_o lord_n be_v near_o to_o a_o break_a contrite_a heart_n a_o melt_a mourn_a spirit_n the_o lord_n do_v delight_n in_o the_o evangelical_a work_n of_o repentance_n this_o please_v the_o lord_n the_o work_n of_o humiliation_n mourning_n and_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n in_o a_o evangelical_a way_n be_v a_o grace_n that_o be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n god_n shall_v have_v none_o of_o that_o in_o heaven_n and_o he_o have_v it_o therefore_o here_o 5._o god_n hereby_o exercise_v his_o wisdom_n exceed_o in_o bring_v light_n out_o of_o darkeness_n god_n do_v many_o time_n turn_v not_o only_o the_o affliction_n of_o his_o people_n to_o their_o good_a but_o he_o work_v good_a many_o time_n out_o of_o sin_n not_o that_o hereby_o we_o shall_v be_v bold_a discouragement_n about_o come_v to_o christ_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o many_o christ_n call_v and_o we_o have_v many_o sweet_a encouragement_n in_o the_o word_n to_o come_v ay_o but_o it_o be_v to_o they_o that_o have_v their_o heart_n stir_v and_o work_v towards_o christ_n to_o go_v to_o he_o but_o i_o have_v a_o dead_a and_o dull_a heart_n and_o can_v work_v towards_o he_o ay_o but_o if_o thou_o can_v not_o stir_v and_o work_v after_o he_o yet_o set_v thy_o soul_n in_o sight_n of_o christ_n and_o look_v towards_o he_o and_o wait_v till_o god_n time_n come_v when_o he_o will_v let_v some_o influence_n into_o thy_o heart_n this_o will_v be_v a_o mighty_a help_n this_o way_n and_o take_v heed_n of_o listen_v to_o any_o temptation_n that_o may_v draw_v away_o thy_o heart_n from_o come_v to_o christ_n it_o be_v a_o notable_a scripture_n that_o you_o have_v in_o 1._o sam._n 12.20_o it_o be_v of_o samuel_n speak_v to_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n that_o have_v sin_v against_o the_o lord_n and_o be_v trouble_v for_o their_o sin_n and_o samuel_n say_v unto_o the_o people_n fear_v not_o you_o have_v do_v this_o wickedness_n yet_o turn_v not_o aside_o from_o follow_v the_o than_o another_o that_o can_v swim_v one_o that_o have_v get_v the_o art_n of_o swim_v while_o the_o other_o sink_v to_o the_o bottom_n the_o water_n help_v he_o and_o he_o keep_v himself_o above_o water_n just_o thus_o be_v the_o difference_n between_o some_o that_o be_v trouble_v in_o their_o conscience_n for_o their_o sin_n and_o other_o between_o some_o that_o be_v come_v to_o christ_n and_o themselves_o unto_o the_o ark_n they_o fall_v down_o again_o and_o at_o the_o last_o perish_v you_o have_v a_o scripture_n for_o this_o in_o 1._o king_n 20.33_o the_o servant_n of_o benhadad_n they_o this_o world_n get_v over_o this_o indeed_o in_o great_a part_n the_o strong_a believer_n have_v get_v power_n there_o also_o a_o great_a deal_n more_o than_o the_o weak_a one_o have_v do_v but_o the_o chief_a burden_n that_o lie_v upon_o a_o strong_a believer_n in_o this_o world_n be_v the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n that_o be_v yet_o in_o he_o and_o so_o for_o the_o next_o burden_n of_o affliction_n the_o strong_a believer_n get_v well_o over_o that_o too_o but_o this_o be_v one_o chief_a burden_n of_o the_o strong_a believer_n that_o the_o world_n have_v that_o yet_o there_o be_v much_o remain_a corruption_n in_o they_o as_o it_o be_v in_o paul_n though_o a_o strong_a believer_n say_v he_o oh_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n walk_v with_o god_n in_o the_o way_n of_o holiness_n so_o christian_n that_o understand_v the_o way_n the_o gospel_n will_v find_v abundance_n of_o power_n against_o their_o corruption_n more_o than_o they_o do_v with_o all_o their_o strive_v and_o pain_n take_v before_o though_o we_o shall_v strive_v and_o take_v all_o pain_n we_o can_v yet_o we_o must_v know_v that_o this_o will_v not_o do_v it_o without_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n in_o christ_n for_o the_o help_a of_o we_o against_o our_o corruption_n four_o from_o hence_o follow_v also_o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a any_o shall_v be_v a_o member_n of_o christ_n but_o he_o must_v needs_o be_v holy_a because_o christ_n be_v our_o sanctification_n christ_n be_v fill_v full_o of_o holiness_n that_o holiness_n may_v be_v convey_v to_o and_o govern_v by_o he_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o have_v communion_n with_o the_o fountain_n of_o all_o holiness_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o to_o live_v under_o the_o power_n of_o sin_n this_o can_v be_v v._o from_o hence_o follow_v likewise_o that_o for_o any_o to_o be_v hinder_v in_o their_o come_n to_o christ_n because_o they_o have_v not_o that_o measure_n of_o holiness_n that_o they_o desire_v this_o be_v a_o great_a temptation_n for_o any_o soul_n that_o see_v the_o want_n of_o grace_n the_o want_n of_o sanctification_n and_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n for_o any_o such_o soul_n to_o be_v hinder_v in_o the_o come_n of_o it_o unto_o christ_n because_o it_o have_v not_o what_o grace_n it_o do_v desire_v this_o be_v a_o very_a strong_a and_o a_o dangerous_a temptation_n of_o the_o devil_n which_o we_o be_v to_o take_v heed_n of_o it_o be_v a_o most_o irrational_a temptation_n and_o yet_o this_o be_v that_o that_o many_o poor_a soul_n be_v trouble_v withal_o they_o think_v thus_o when_o we_o exhort_v they_o to_o come_v to_o christ_n alas_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v poor_a creature_n i_o be_o so_o vild_a i_o have_v such_o a_o wicked_a and_o sinful_a
