the_o heart_n also_o now_o that_o every_o new_a degree_n work_v against_o a_o sin_n as_o it_o be_v sin_n be_v plain_a by_o this_o because_o if_o it_o be_v purge_v out_o upon_o any_o other_o respect_n it_o be_v not_o mortification_n three_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o virtue_n that_o come_v from_o christ_n which_o be_v the_o efficient_a cause_n of_o this_o purge_n out_o a_o sin_n do_v also_o work_v against_o every_o sin_n when_o they_o work_v against_o any_o one_o and_o they_o have_v a_o contrariety_n to_o every_o lust_n they_o search_v into_o every_o vein_n and_o draw_v from_o all_o part_n physician_n may_v give_v elective_a purge_n as_o they_o call_v they_o which_o will_v purge_v out_o one_o humour_n and_o not_o another_o but_o christ_n physic_n work_v general_o it_o take_v away_o all_o sort_n of_o distemper_n and_o whereas_o the_o objection_n against_o this_o may_v be_v object_n that_o then_o all_o lust_n will_v come_v to_o be_v equal_o mortify_v i_o answer_v answ_n no_o for_o all_o lust_n be_v never_o equal_o alive_a in_o a_o man_n some_o be_v strong_a some_o weak_a by_o custom_n through_o disposition_n of_o body_n and_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o though_o mortification_n extend_v itself_o to_o all_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o inequality_n in_o the_o life_n and_o growth_n of_o these_o sin_n in_o we_o hence_o some_o remain_n still_o more_o some_o less_o mortify_v as_o when_o a_o flood_n of_o water_n be_v leave_v to_o flow_v into_o a_o field_n where_o many_o hill_n be_v of_o differ_v height_n though_o the_o water_n overflow_v all_o equal_o yet_o some_o be_v more_o and_o the_o promise_n with_o the_o virtue_n of_o christ_n for_o the_o mortification_n of_o some_o one_o particular_a lust_n or_o other_o and_o do_v use_v those_o right_a mean_n as_o prayer_n fast_v etc._n etc._n for_o the_o special_a mortification_n of_o some_o one_o lust_n whether_o that_o lust_n thereby_o do_v not_o become_v more_o mortify_v than_o other_o lust_n do_v i_o answer_v answ_n yes_o yet_o so_o as_o in_o a_o proportion_n this_o work_n of_o mortification_n it_o run_v through_o all_o the_o rest_n for_o as_o in_o wash_v out_o the_o great_a stain_n of_o a_o cloth_n the_o lesser_a stain_n be_v wash_v out_o also_o with_o the_o same_o labour_n so_o it_o be_v here_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n in_o all_o his_o exhortation_n to_o mortification_n both_o eph._n 4._o and_o gal._n 5._o and_o col._n 3._o though_o he_o exhort_v to_o the_o put_v off_o the_o old_a man_n the_o whole_a body_n of_o sin_n yet_o instance_n in_o particular_a sin_n because_o a_o man_n be_v particular_o to_o endeavour_v the_o mortification_n of_o particular_n as_o it_o be_v apart_o and_o yet_o because_o in_o get_v they_o mortify_v the_o whole_a body_n of_o sin_n be_v destroy_v therefore_o he_o mention_n these_o to_o have_v grace_n maintain_v a_o spark_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o a_o sea_n of_o corruption_n how_o do_v this_o honour_n the_o power_n of_o god_n in_o keep_v we_o as_o much_o in_o regard_n of_o this_o our_o dependency_n on_o he_o in_o such_o a_o condition_n as_o he_o will_v otherwise_o be_v by_o our_o service_n if_o it_o be_v pepfect_a and_o we_o whole_o free_a from_o those_o corruption_n how_o will_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n under_o the_o gospel_n triumph_n over_o the_o grace_n give_v adam_n in_o his_o innocence_n when_o adam_n have_v his_o heart_n full_a of_o inherent_a grace_n and_o nothing_o inward_o in_o his_o nature_n to_o seduce_v he_o and_o the_o temptation_n that_o he_o have_v be_v but_o a_o matter_n of_o curiosity_n and_o the_o please_a his_o wife_n and_o yet_o he_o fall_v when_o as_o many_o poor_a soul_n under_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n that_o have_v but_o mite_n of_o grace_n in_o comparison_n and_o world_n of_o corruption_n be_v yet_o keep_v not_o only_o from_o the_o unnecessary_a pleasure_n of_o sin_n in_o time_n of_o prosperity_n but_o hold_v out_o against_o all_o the_o threat_n all_o the_o cruelty_n of_o wicked_a persecutor_n in_o time_n of_o persecution_n which_o threaten_v to_o debar_v they_o of_o all_o the_o present_a good_a they_o enjoy_v and_o though_o god_n people_n be_v foil_v often_o yet_o that_o there_o shall_v still_o remain_v a_o seed_n within_o they_o 1_o john_n 3._o 9_o this_o illustrate_v the_o grace_n of_o christ_n under_o the_o gospel_n for_o one_o act_n in_o adam_n expel_v all_o grace_n out_o of_o he_o when_o yet_o his_o heart_n be_v full_a of_o nothing_o else_o be_v our_o heart_n fill_v with_o grace_n perfect_o at_o first_o conversion_n this_o power_n will_v not_o be_v see_v the_o angel_n be_v they_o aside_o and_o press_v they_o down_o as_o we_o have_v neither_o 3._o will_v the_o confusion_n of_o the_o devil_n in_o the_o end_n be_v so_o great_a and_o the_o victory_n so_o glorious_a if_o all_o sin_n at_o first_o conversion_n be_v expel_v for_o by_o this_o mean_v the_o devil_n have_v in_o his_o assault_n against_o we_o the_o more_o advantage_n fair_a play_n as_o i_o may_v so_o speak_v fair_a hope_n of_o overcome_a have_v a_o great_a faction_n in_o we_o as_o ready_a to_o sin_n as_o he_o be_v greedy_a to_o tempt_v and_o yet_o god_n strong_o carry_v on_o his_o own_o work_n begin_v though_o slow_o and_o by_o degree_n back_v and_o maintain_v a_o small_a party_n of_o grace_n within_o we_o to_o his_o confusion_n that_o as_o in_o god_n outward_a government_n towards_o his_o church_n here_o on_o earth_n he_o suffer_v a_o great_a party_n and_o the_o great_a still_o by_o far_o to_o be_v against_o his_o church_n and_o yet_o uphold_v it_o and_o rule_n among_o the_o midst_n of_o his_o enemy_n psal_n 110._o ult_n so_o do_v he_o also_o in_o every_o particular_a believer_n heart_n when_o grace_n shall_v be_v in_o we_o but_o as_o a_o spark_n and_o corruption_n as_o much_o smoke_n and_o moisture_n damp_v it_o grace_v but_o as_o a_o candle_n and_o that_o in_o the_o socket_n among_o huge_a and_o many_o wind_n then_o to_o bring_v judgement_n forth_o to_o victory_n that_o be_v a_o victory_n indeed_o last_o as_o god_n do_v it_o to_o advance_v his_o own_o grace_n and_o confound_v the_o devil_n so_o for_o holy_a end_n that_o concern_v the_o saint_n themselves_o as_o 1._o to_o take_v away_o the_o sin_n say_v he_o ver_fw-la 9_o that_o be_v this_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o that_o wind_n and_o of_o all_o these_o his_o deal_n with_o they_o and_o it_o be_v all_o the_o fruit_n
