call_v the_o vocation_n of_o the_o gentile_n a_o mystery_n 5.32_o this_o conjunction_n which_o be_v begin_v here_o betwixt_o we_o &_o christ_n be_v call_v a_o mystery_n &_o the_o latin_a interpreter_n many_o evil_a man_n that_o have_v seek_v death_n and_o it_o be_v as_o true_a that_o there_o have_v be_v many_o good_a man_n that_o have_v seek_v death_n yet_o never_o one_o of_o these_o seek_a death_n for_o itself_o for_o it_o be_v not_o natural_a to_o seek_v the_o dissolution_n of_o ourselves_o but_o these_o evil_a man_n that_o seek_v death_n and_o put_v hand_n on_o themselves_o in_o their_o appearance_n they_o seek_v it_o for_o a_o better_a to_o wit_n to_o eschew_v the_o present_a torment_n and_o vexation_n of_o hell_n in_o their_o conscience_n wherein_o they_o be_v think_v that_o corruption_n urge_v the_o conscience_n so_o that_o where_o the_o conscience_n be_v urge_v there_o must_v be_v a_o fear_n and_o the_o more_o the_o conscience_n be_v urge_v the_o great_a be_v the_o pain_n and_o terror_n it_o be_v true_a that_o this_o fear_n be_v temper_v by_o faith_n that_o dwell_v in_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o hope_n of_o joy_n that_o dwell_v in_o the_o faithful_a soul_n hold_v this_o fear_n in_o awe_n that_o hope_v of_o heavenly_a joy_n so_o swallow_v up_o and_o devour_v the_o fear_n and_o make_v it_o to_o appear_v to_o the_o looker_n on_o that_o the_o soul_n have_v no_o fear_n but_o no_o doubt_n there_o be_v a_o fear_n and_o it_o be_v sure_a there_o be_v some_o grief_n it_o be_v only_o as_o i_o have_v say_v the_o hope_n of_o that_o heavenly_a joy_n that_o hold_v this_o fear_n in_o awe_n where_o this_o hope_n be_v not_o terrible_a be_v that_o fear_n wonderful_a be_v these_o terror_n great_a be_v that_o anguish_n of_o soul_n that_o be_v there_o so_o that_o i_o can_v find_v name_n to_o express_v it_o terrible_a it_o be_v to_o see_v the_o countenance_n of_o god_n in_o his_o justice_n there_o be_v no_o creature_n that_o can_v abide_v it_o terrible_a it_o be_v to_o see_v their_o own_o sin_n present_v themselves_o the_o ouglinesse_n and_o guiltiness_n of_o sin_n and_o beside_o all_o these_o to_o be_v leave_v destitute_a of_o hope_n it_o be_v not_o the_o least_o part_n of_o their_o grief_n and_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o regard_v for_o man_n will_v not_o rise_v to_o get_v faith_n if_o it_o shall_v cost_v they_o but_o a_o hour_n they_o will_v not_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n this_o be_v a_o wonderful_a and_o miserable_a madness_n that_o be_v in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n that_o he_o will_v never_o provide_v for_o hell_n until_o hell_n catch_v he_o death_n now_o to_o come_v to_o our_o purpose_n the_o less_o the_o corruption_n be_v the_o less_o must_v be_v the_o fear_n wherein_o then_o shall_v your_o exercise_n stand_v shall_v you_o not_o study_v to_o diminish_v this_o corruption_n for_o he_o that_o will_v be_v void_a of_o fear_n must_v travel_v to_o diminish_v this_o corruption_n that_o the_o conscience_n may_v be_v clean_o and_o you_o may_v have_v a_o good_a testimony_n which_o make_v man_n to_o be_v without_o terror_n for_o as_o long_o as_o the_o love_n of_o this_o world_n and_o of_o worldly_a thing_n occupy_v our_o soul_n it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o it_o can_v be_v without_o fear_n for_o why_o there_o be_v no_o heart_n that_o can_v willing_o part_v with_o the_o thing_n that_o it_o love_v without_o exceed_a sorrow_n and_o grief_n then_o we_o shall_v travel_v to_o take_v order_n with_o these_o affection_n and_o love_n to_o worldly_a thing_n but_o so_o far_o as_o they_o may_v serve_v to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o in_o god_n to_o love_v ourselves_o and_o our_o neighbour_n that_o when_o he_o call_v no_o strange_a love_n may_v draw_v we_o from_o he_o there_o be_v a_o common_a law_n in_o all_o city_n concern_v the_o forbid_a good_n which_o be_v discharge_v plain_o to_o be_v carry_v out_o of_o the_o country_n where_o we_o be_v present_o and_o suppose_v they_o be_v carry_v they_o can_v serve_v to_o no_o use_n in_o the_o country_n whither_o we_o go_v to_o let_v you_o see_v the_o exposition_n of_o the_o parable_n i_o say_v the_o love_n of_o this_o world_n &_o the_o care_n thereof_o the_o love_n for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o of_o our_o neighbour_n and_o let_v we_o cast_v off_o all_o contrary_a love_n only_o let_v we_o love_n god_n and_o in_o god_n let_v we_o love_v our_o neighbour_n now_o if_o i_o may_v obtain_v this_o one_o lesson_n for_o all_o the_o rest_n i_o will_v think_v my_o travel_n very_o well_o bestow_v and_o therefore_o i_o insist_v so_o much_o the_o more_o in_o it_o that_o it_o may_v sink_v into_o your_o heart_n now_o than_o this_o good_a king_n fear_v which_o tell_v i_o that_o in_o all_o christian_n there_o be_v some_o fear_n i_o come_v to_o the_o next_o what_o he_o be_v trouble_v with_o it_o and_o cast_v in_o a_o great_a perturbation_n he_o subjoin_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o be_v so_o grieve_v and_o as_o i_o may_v gather_v they_o they_o be_v three_o in_o number_n but_o ere_o i_o come_v to_o the_o reason_n i_o will_v tell_v you_o his_o own_o word_n which_o he_o say_v in_o time_n of_o his_o trouble_n he_o say_v i_o shall_v go_v down_o to_o the_o gate_n of_o the_o grave_n i_o be_o draw_v near_o to_o the_o gate_n of_o death_n for_o so_o soon_o as_o i_o hear_v the_o prophet_n say_v that_o i_o shall_v die_v so_o soon_o i_o begin_v to_o prepare_v i_o for_o it_o for_o if_o all_o threaten_n come_v to_o pass_v as_o the_o prophet_n have_v say_v if_o i_o find_v no_o outgate_n in_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n i_o must_v die_v for_o this_o i_o know_v that_o i_o be_o a_o mortal_a man_n and_o suppose_v i_o be_v a_o king_n and_o a_o glorious_a king_n yet_o i_o be_o not_o exempt_v from_o death_n and_o therefore_o i_o will_v prepare_v i_o for_o it_o he_o know_v well_o that_o suppose_v he_o make_v himself_o ready_a he_o be_v not_o one_o hair_n near_o to_o death_n now_o sure_o if_o you_o will_v follow_v this_o king_n application_n you_o will_v be_v a_o thousand_o time_n ready_a and_o more_o able_a to_o live_v than_o you_o be_v in_o your_o disease_n but_o you_o be_v cast_v up_o in_o such_o a_o dainty_a and_o delicate_a fashion_n that_o no_o man_n be_v only_o true_a peace_n and_o quietness_n to_o be_v find_v therefore_o our_o exercise_n shall_v chief_o stand_v in_o this_o to_o expel_v this_o enemy_n and_o monster_n sin_n and_o to_o possess_v that_o save_a juice_n and_o wholesome_a peace_n that_o pass_v all_o understanding_n the_o second_o effect_n whereby_o we_o may_v know_v that_o the_o soul_n live_v be_v the_o joy_n and_o rejoice_v under_o trouble_n for_o we_o know_v by_o experience_n that_o trouble_n of_o it_o own_o nature_n can_v bring_v forth_o this_o joy_n but_o bring_v forth_o the_o contrary_a effect_n as_o sadness_n heaviness_n and_o sorrow_n now_o where_o the_o spirit_n be_v so_o dispose_v that_o we_o rejoice_v under_o trouble_n this_o be_v a_o sure_a argument_n of_o the_o bless_a spirit_n the_o spirit_n of_o life_n which_o only_o quicken_v the_o soul_n and_o this_o joy_n make_v we_o not_o only_o to_o rejoice_v in_o trouble_n but_o to_o glory_v also_o as_o say_v the_o apostle_n for_o sure_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n be_v our_o only_a joy_n &_o the_o shame_n of_o christ_n be_v our_o only_a honour_n hereby_o we_o perceive_v the_o great_a glory_n that_o the_o lord_n have_v call_v we_o to_o that_o not_o only_o he_o make_v we_o to_o believe_v his_o word_n but_o to_o suffer_v for_o he_o also_o only_o you_o have_v to_o take_v heed_n to_o your_o trouble_n for_o this_o joy_n deny_v not_o all_o trouble_n but_o only_o those_o trouble_n that_o be_v suffer_v for_o christ_n cause_n for_o righteousness_n sake_n &_o be_v underserue_v for_o those_o trouble_n that_o be_v deserve_v the_o like_a joy_n be_v not_o to_o be_v find_v in_o they_o the_o three_o effect_n whereby_o we_o may_v know_v that_o the_o soul_n live_v be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o hatred_n of_o evil_n where_o this_o love_n be_v kindle_v in_o the_o soul_n where_o we_o begin_v to_o know_v god_n to_o love_v he_o and_o to_o taste_v of_o he_o for_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o we_o can_v love_v he_o except_o we_o have_v a_o taste_n of_o his_o sweetness_n this_o love_n make_v we_o like_a to_o god_n for_o god_n be_v love_n as_o john_n say_v if_o love_n dwell_v in_o thy_o heart_n god_n dwell_v in_o thy_o heart_n and_o this_o love_n be_v a_o sure_a pledge_n of_o the_o life_n of_o the_o soul_n where_o this_o love_n be_v of_o necessity_n also_o there_o must_v be_v a_o hatred_n of_o evil_a now_o try_v and_o examine_v if_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n have_v wrought_v these_o effect_n in_o thy_o soul_n in_o any_o measure_n if_o it_o be_v never_o so_o small_a it_o be_v a_o sure_a argument_n that_o this_o life_n be_v begin_v and_o the_o life_n which_o god_n have_v begin_v he_o will_v perfect_v it_o if_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v never_o so_o little_a and_o the_o hatred_n of_o evil_n be_v never_o so_o little_a if_o any_o of_o these_o effect_n be_v but_o in_o a_o small_a measure_n you_o may_v be_v sure_a that_o christ_n dwell_v in_o your_o heart_n by_o faith_n and_o that_o the_o soul_n live_v you_o that_o feel_v this_o as_o i_o will_v that_o you_o all_o feel_v it_o press_v to_o nourish_v and_o strengthen_v this_o life_n not_o weary_a in_o well_o do_v but_o go_v forward_o in_o work_v the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n sow_v not_o in_o the_o flesh_n go_v not_o forward_o in_o the_o lust_n and_o appetite_n thereof_o for_o you_o may_v learn_v of_o the_o apostle_n what_o advantage_n this_o labour_n bring_v to_o wit_n shame_n and_o confusion_n death_n of_o the_o body_n and_o death_n of_o soul_n rom._n 6._o but_o on_o the_o contrary_a go_v forward_o in_o nourish_v of_o the_o spirit_n and_o in_o well_o do_v sow_n in_o the_o spirit_n and_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v you_o shall_v reap_v a_o everlasting_a and_o incomprehensible_a life_n this_o spirit_n than_o be_v say_v to_o be_v nourish_v and_o corroborate_v in_o our_o heart_n banish_v when_o we_o nourish_v the_o light_n and_o knowledge_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesus_n when_o we_o edify_v ourselves_o in_o our_o most_o holy_a faith_n and_o continue_v in_o the_o exercise_n of_o prayer_n as_o by_o the_o contrary_n we_o banish_v this_o light_n of_o the_o good_a spirit_n and_o by_o our_o evil_n do_v we_o banish_v the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n when_o we_o put_v out_o this_o light_n diminish_v our_o persuasion_n and_o leave_v off_o the_o exercise_n of_o prayer_n for_o by_o the_o same_o mean_n whereby_o the_o soul_n nourishment_n of_o the_o body_n in_o our_o corporal_a food_n so_o that_o if_o you_o chew_v not_o this_o meat_n and_o swallow_v it_o it_o feed_v you_o not_o than_o it_o be_v only_o the_o second_o apprehension_n that_o nourish_v our_o body_n it_o be_v even_o so_o in_o spiritual_a thing_n so_o far_o as_o they_o may_v be_v compare_v in_o the_o food_n of_o christ_n jesus_n who_o be_v the_o life_n and_o nouriture_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o conscience_n there_o must_v be_v two_o sort_n of_o apprehension_n of_o christ_n jesus_n the_o first_o apprehension_n be_v by_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o mind_n that_o be_v by_o our_o knowledge_n and_o understanding_n for_o as_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o body_n discern_v by_o a_o outward_a light_n so_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o mind_n discern_v by_o a_o inward_a and_o renew_a understanding_n whereby_o we_o get_v the_o first_o apprehension_n of_o christ._n now_o if_o this_o first_o apprehension_n of_o christ_n like_o we_o well_o than_o the_o next_o follow_v we_o begin_v to_o cast_v the_o affection_n of_o our_o heart_n on_o he_o we_o have_v good_a will_n to_o he_o for_o all_o our_o affection_n proceed_v from_o our_o will_n and_o our_o affection_n be_v renew_v and_o make_v holy_a we_o set_v they_o whole_o upon_o christ._n we_o love_v he_o and_o if_o we_o love_v he_o we_o take_v hold_v of_o he_o and_o digest_v he_o that_o be_v we_o apply_v he_o to_o room_n serve_v knowledge_n and_o understanding_n to_o thy_o soul_n and_o look_v in_o what_o place_n thy_o hand_n and_o thy_o mouth_n thy_o taste_n and_o thy_o stomach_n serve_v unto_o thy_o body_n in_o that_o very_a place_n serve_v the_o heart_n and_o affection_n unto_o thy_o soul_n so_o that_o as_o our_o body_n can_v be_v nourish_v except_o our_o hand_n take_v and_o our_o mouth_n eat_v the_o meat_n whereby_o the_o second_o apprehension_n may_v follow_v likewise_o our_o soul_n can_v feed_v on_o christ_n except_o we_o hold_v he_o and_o embrace_v he_o hearty_o by_o our_o will_n and_o affection_n for_o we_o come_v not_o to_o christ_n by_o any_o outward_a motion_n of_o our_o body_n but_o by_o a_o inward_a motion_n &_o apprehension_n of_o the_o heart_n for_o god_n find_v we_o all_o in_o a_o reprobate_a sense_n he_o bring_v we_o to_o christ_n by_o reform_v the_o affection_n of_o our_o soul_n by_o make_v we_o to_o love_v he_o and_o therefore_o the_o second_o apprehension_n it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o i_o can_v continue_v in_o the_o faith_n and_o how_o must_v we_o nourish_v and_o keep_v faith_n in_o our_o soul_n two_o manner_n of_o way_n first_o we_o nourish_v faith_n begin_v in_o our_o soul_n by_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n not_o of_o every_o word_n but_o by_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n preach_v and_o not_o by_o hear_v of_o every_o man_n but_o by_o hear_v the_o word_n preach_v by_o he_o that_o be_v send_v for_o this_o be_v the_o ordinary_a mean_n whereunto_o the_o lord_n have_v bind_v himself_o he_o will_v work_v faith_n by_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n and_o receive_n of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o the_o more_o that_o thou_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o the_o otfn_a that_o thou_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n the_o more_o thy_o faith_n be_v nourish_v now_o it_o be_v not_o only_o by_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n and_o receive_n of_o the_o sacrament_n that_o we_o nourish_v faith_n the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n be_v notable_a of_o in_o the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n we_o get_v christ_n who_o be_v the_o food_n of_o our_o soul_n therefore_o the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n be_v say_v to_o nourish_v our_o soul_n as_o it_o be_v say_v mouth_n or_o eye_n of_o thy_o body_n for_o if_o that_o be_v so_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v spiritual_o present_a because_o every_o thing_n be_v present_a as_o it_o agree_v in_o it_o own_o nature_n be_v differ_v in_o this_o last_o point_n we_o say_v that_o the_o word_n ought_v to_o be_v direct_v and_o pronounce_v unto_o the_o people_n to_o the_o faithful_a communicant_n they_o on_o the_o contrary_n say_v that_o the_o word_n ought_v not_o to_o be_v direct_v nor_o pronounce_v to_o the_o people_n but_o to_o the_o element_n and_o not_o to_o be_v clear_o pronounce_v but_o whisper_v on_o the_o element_n so_o that_o if_o they_o be_v speak_v to_o the_o people_n or_o speak_v open_o their_o charm_n avail_v not_o now_o i_o say_v that_o as_o this_o holy_a action_n be_v pervert_v by_o they_o in_o all_o the_o rest_n so_o they_o pervert_v it_o in_o this_o point_n also_o in_o speak_v that_o to_o the_o dumb_a element_n which_o they_o shall_v speak_v to_o the_o people_n of_o god_n for_o i_o shall_v prove_v it_o clear_o by_o three_o argument_n take_v out_o of_o the_o scripture_n that_o the_o word_n ought_v not_o to_o be_v speak_v to_o the_o bread_n but_o to_o the_o people_n of_o god_n and_o first_o i_o say_v the_o promise_n of_o mercy_n and_o grace_n ought_v to_o be_v direct_v and_o pronounce_v to_o they_o in_o who_o the_o lord_n perform_v they_o and_o make_v they_o effectual_a but_o so_o it_o be_v that_o the_o promise_n of_o mercy_n and_o grace_n be_v perform_v and_o make_v effectual_a not_o in_o bread_n and_o wine_n but_o in_o faithful_a man_n and_o woman_n therefore_o these_o promise_n shall_v be_v direct_v to_o faithful_a man_n and_o woman_n now_o here_o be_v the_o promise_n of_o mercy_n and_o grace_n this_o be_v my_o body_n which_o be_v break_v for_o you_o and_o this_o promise_n be_v make_v to_o no_o other_o thing_n but_o to_o the_o faithful_a and_o so_o to_o they_o only_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v direct_v second_o we_o have_v to_o consider_v that_o this_o sacrament_n seal_v up_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o mercy_n now_o with_o who_o will_v god_n make_v his_o covenant_n of_o mercy_n and_o grace_n will_v he_o make_v a_o covenant_n with_o a_o piece_n of_o bread_n or_o any_o dumb_a element_n there_o be_v no_o man_n will_v enter_v into_o covenant_n with_o his_o servant_n much_o less_o will_v enter_v inter_fw-la covenant_n with_o a_o dumb_a element_n so_o in_o respect_n this_o sacrament_n seal_v up_o a_o covenant_n this_o covenant_n of_o necessity_n must_v be_v make_v with_o a_o faithful_a soul_n and_o in_o no_o wise_a with_o the_o dumb_a element_n and_o therefore_o these_o word_n can_v be_v direct_v to_o the_o element_n three_o look_v to_o the_o end_n wherefore_o this_o sacrament_n be_v appoint_v be_v it_o not_o to_o lead_v we_o to_o christ_n grieve_v at_o the_o cut_n off_o of_o his_o day_n the_o first_o because_o the_o work_n of_o reformation_n in_o church_n &_o policy_n which_o he_o have_v begin_v will_v cease_v and_o out_o of_o question_n this_o hasty_a cut_v off_o make_v he_o so_o well_o prepare_v in_o his_o heart_n to_o die_v as_o he_o will_v have_v be_v if_o he_o have_v have_v leisure_n so_o in_o respect_n he_o lack_v time_n and_o yet_o he_o be_v not_o so_o void_a of_o all_o preparation_n as_o common_o youth_n be_v that_o cast_v off_o all_o repentance_n to_o the_o last_o age_n think_v there_o be_v time_n enough_o before_o they_o in_o these_o respect_n that_o the_o work_n of_o reformation_n by_o the_o cut_n off_o of_o his_o time_n will_v be_v imperfect_a and_o in_o respect_n he_o shall_v not_o have_v be_v so_o well_o prepare_v in_o his_o heart_n therefore_o he_o be_v grieve_v at_o his_o death_n and_o say_v i_o be_o deprive_v of_o the_o residue_n of_o my_o year_n well_o to_o apply_v this_o unto_o our_o cause_n i_o think_v there_o be_v none_o but_o they_o see_v clear_o application_n that_o if_o we_o come_v not_o with_o better_a speed_n to_o the_o work_n of_o reformation_n than_o we_o be_v like_a to_o do_v i_o fear_v that_o we_o leave_v not_o this_o work_n only_a un-ended_n but_o un-begun_a for_o if_o this_o confusion_n of_o church_n and_o policy_n grow_v from_o day_n to_o day_n as_o it_o do_v without_o interruption_n as_o if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o king_n in_o israel_n i_o say_v if_o this_o confusion_n endure_v no_o question_n but_o the_o birth_n of_o iniquity_n shall_v so_o overburthen_v must_v this_o contempt_n work_v of_o necessity_n it_o must_v bring_v exceed_v famine_n of_o that_o same_o food_n which_o we_o loathe_v for_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o suffer_v his_o word_n which_o of_o itself_o be_v so_o dainty_a and_o delicate_a to_o be_v contemn_v and_o it_o can_v be_v but_o that_o the_o same_o word_n which_o your_o father_n and_o some_o of_o yourselves_o have_v run_v many_o mile_n to_o hear_v be_v as_o dainty_a now_o as_o it_o be_v then_o and_o therefore_o it_o can_v be_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v suffer_v this_o contempt_n but_o either_o there_o must_v be_v great_a
zeal_n or_o of_o force_n we_o shall_v be_v spoil_v of_o it_o thus_o far_o concern_v the_o second_o cause_n king_n as_o to_o the_o three_o i_o shall_v touch_v it_o short_o and_o so_o i_o shall_v end_v that_o general_n be_v true_a there_o be_v no_o creature_n yea_o not_o the_o devil_n himself_o that_o have_v power_n to_o show_v any_o true_a miracle_n then_o all_o those_o miracle_n that_o be_v in_o the_o popish_a church_n as_o the_o image_n of_o leg_n and_o arm_n wax_v clothes_n and_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o that_o sort_n be_v deceive_a lie_n of_o the_o devil_n the_o king_n purchase_v this_o you_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o this_o king_n life_n from_o the_o 14._o year_n of_o his_o reign_n and_o in_o his_o whole_a course_n you_o see_v that_o his_o whole_a life_n be_v a_o continual_a fall_n and_o rise_v a_o continual_a pray_v and_o praise_v of_o god_n pray_v in_o the_o time_n of_o his_o fall_n and_o of_o his_o trouble_n that_o the_o lord_n will_v strengthen_v he_o by_o his_o spirit_n and_o praise_v god_n for_o his_o victory_n that_o he_o have_v so_o mighty_o deliver_v he_o in_o this_o we_o see_v a_o image_n of_o a_o christian_a life_n and_o of_o a_o christian_a exercise_n to_o assure_v every_o one_o of_o you_o that_o while_o you_o be_v here_o your_o life_n shall_v be_v but_o a_o continual_a fall_n and_o rise_v rise_v by_o the_o special_a grace_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesus_n and_o therefore_o it_o become_v you_o to_o be_v occupy_v in_o the_o same_o exercise_n wherein_o this_o king_n be_v employ_v in_o the_o time_n of_o your_o fall_n and_o trouble_v to_o be_v diligent_a in_o prayer_n seek_v strength_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o endure_v and_o praise_v he_o in_o your_o victory_n he_o that_o forget_v to_o pray_v forget_v to_o rise_v and_o god_n it_o be_v but_o a_o remanent_fw-la of_o this_o flow_v this_o fear_n trouble_n &_o perturbation_n of_o mind_n it_o be_v true_a that_o this_o faith_n and_o the_o constant_a hope_n of_o a_o better_a life_n that_o dwell_v in_o the_o other_o part_n of_o the_o soul_n do_v temper_n the_o fear_n mitigate_v the_o trouble_n and_o swallow_v up_o the_o pain_n of_o death_n yet_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o corruption_n that_o remain_v some_o fear_n must_v be_v and_o the_o great_a the_o corruption_n be_v the_o great_a fear_n fall_v upon_o the_o conscience_n the_o chief_a corruption_n that_o grieve_v we_o in_o the_o time_n of_o death_n be_v the_o love_n of_o the_o world_n the_o care_n of_o the_o world_n the_o inordinate_a love_n of_o flesh_n and_o blood_n so_o that_o he_o that_o will_v make_v himself_o void_a of_o fear_n must_v provide_v to_o rid_v his_o hand_n and_o his_o heart_n of_o these_o inordinate_a affection_n for_o experience_n although_o unhappy_a teach_v we_o that_o there_o be_v no_o man_n that_o can_v part_v with_o that_o he_o love_v without_o exceed_a grief_n and_o therefore_o in_o the_o point_n of_o death_n experience_n teach_v what_o it_o be_v to_o cast_v our_o affection_n on_o frivolous_a thing_n that_o sudden_o vanish_v so_o i_o say_v now_o it_o be_v time_n to_o rid_v your_o hand_n and_o purge_v your_o heart_n of_o such_o preposterous_a affection_n that_o death_n which_o unto_o other_o be_v so_o terrible_a when_o it_o come_v it_o may_v be_v a_o blessing_n unto_o you_o i_o show_v unto_o you_o that_o all_o those_o care_n be_v forbid_a good_n the_o more_o able_a you_o be_v to_o live_v &_o the_o less_o shall_v be_v your_o anguish_n when_o the_o lord_n call_v as_o to_o the_o reason_n i_o will_v not_o insist_v in_o they_o only_o the_o last_o reason_n that_o make_v death_n to_o be_v so_o fearful_a to_o this_o good_a king_n be_v the_o great_a love_n which_o he_o have_v to_o the_o church_n that_o be_v in_o his_o country_n the_o great_a have_v a_o exceed_a blessing_n where_o the_o prince_n be_v so_o careful_a for_o the_o church_n in_o his_o country_n and_o of_o his_o faithful_a subject_n that_o in_o his_o death_n he_o have_v mind_n of_o they_o and_o be_v grieve_v to_o depart_v from_o they_o as_o on_o the_o other_o side_n the_o church_n must_v be_v as_o heavy_o curse_v where_o the_o prince_n have_v no_o regard_n of_o the_o church_n in_o his_o country_n nor_o of_o his_o faithful_a subject_n as_o to_o the_o reason_n i_o will_v not_o stand_v precise_o in_o justify_v of_o they_o all_o i_o think_v as_o the_o word_n sound_v that_o there_o be_v some_o thing_n worthy_a of_o praise_n and_o commendation_n in_o they_o and_o some_o thing_n worthy_a of_o dispraise_n and_o reproof_n for_o so_o far_o as_o they_o flow_v of_o faith_n and_o of_o the_o good_a spirit_n of_o god_n no_o question_n they_o be_v worthy_a of_o praise_n and_o so_o far_o as_o they_o flow_v from_o the_o king_n unruly_a affection_n they_o be_v worthy_a of_o dispraise_n and_o sure_o it_o appear_v by_o the_o word_n that_o his_o affection_n have_v be_v somewhat_o unruly_a well_o the_o lesson_n that_o i_o gather_v be_v this_o be_v the_o profit_n that_o we_o reap_v of_o these_o preposterous_a affection_n they_o draw_v our_o love_n from_o god_n to_o the_o creature_n and_o ere_o these_o affection_n can_v be_v draw_v from_o the_o creature_n they_o bring_v such_o a_o grief_n unto_o they_o as_o it_o be_v another_o death_n therefore_o the_o thing_n that_o we_o crave_v be_v that_o you_o shall_v set_v your_o affection_n upon_o god_n the_o truth_n and_o his_o web_n as_o to_o the_o first_o similitude_n he_o say_v his_o life_n be_v to_o be_v transport_v from_o he_o like_o a_o shepherd_n tent_n look_v how_o the_o tent_n of_o shepherd_n be_v remove_v transport_v and_o remove_v so_o say_v the_o king_n he_o see_v his_o life_n to_o be_v subject_a to_o the_o same_o transportation_n it_o be_v know_v to_o you_o all_o that_o read_v history_n that_o in_o the_o east_n hot_a country_n as_o namely_o among_o the_o tartar_n and_o arabian_n where_o the_o shepherd_n in_o the_o summer_n season_v remain_v under_o tent_n so_o often_o as_o they_o remove_v their_o flock_n they_o remove_v their_o tent_n and_o in_o our_o own_o country_n here_o when_o our_o shepherd_n remove_v their_o flock_n they_o remove_v their_o other_o necessary_n allude_v to_o that_o same_o custom_n so_o will_v the_o king_n say_v look_v how_o these_o tent_n be_v remove_v in_o the_o summer_n season_n &_o transport_v my_o life_n be_v subject_a to_o the_o same_o condition_n similitude_n of_o this_o similitude_n we_o have_v matter_n full_a of_o good_a doctrine_n for_o this_o similitude_n do_v first_o teach_v we_o that_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o instable_a &_o uncertain_a then_o be_v the_o life_n of_o man_n here_o beneath_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o subject_a to_o instability_n then_o this_o life_n which_o we_o live_v in_o this_o body_n for_o as_o to_o the_o nature_n of_o tent_n you_o see_v whether_o you_o call_v they_o tent_n pavilion_n or_o tabernacle_n all_o be_v one_o by_o experience_n there_o be_v nothing_o more_o unstable_a nor_o uncertain_a to_o dwell_v in_o then_o be_v a_o tent_n for_o why_o it_o lack_v a_o ground_n it_o lack_v a_o foundation_n and_o stability_n and_o in_o stead_n of_o a_o ground_n it_o lean_v only_o to_o certain_a pin_n which_o enter_v not_o deep_o into_o the_o earth_n and_o consequent_o by_o the_o light_a blast_n of_o every_o wind_n they_o be_v blow_v up_o and_o when_o the_o pin_n fail_v the_o tent_n fall_v so_o the_o king_n will_v teach_v we_o by_o this_o similitude_n that_o this_o life_n of_o we_o lack_v a_o ground_n lack_v a_o foundation_n and_o lack_v a_o stability_n and_o therefore_o the_o king_n in_o this_o comparison_n will_v send_v we_o to_o the_o life_n which_o have_v the_o sure_a ground_n foundation_n and_o stability_n he_o send_v we_o to_o that_o kingdom_n which_o as_o the_o apostle_n heb._n 12._o say_v can_v be_v shake_v by_o no_o kind_n of_o stormy_a blast_n and_o as_o i_o remember_v heb._n 11_o 9.10_o there_o in_o these_o verse_n the_o apostle_n make_v a_o flat_a opposition_n betwixt_o these_o tent_n that_o lack_v a_o ground_n and_o the_o city_n of_o god_n say_v that_o as_o tent_n and_o tabernable_v lack_v a_o foundation_n and_o ground_n so_o the_o city_n of_o it_o be_v not_o their_o purpose_n to_o fix_v their_o staff_n as_o we_o speak_v there_o but_o they_o be_v upon_o their_o journey_n and_o seek_v the_o way_n that_o lead_v homeward_o the_o way_n that_o
of_o god_n at_o the_o last_o he_o shall_v never_o come_v out_o so_o in_o time_n let_v every_o one_o beware_v to_o abuse_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n this_o way_n but_o beg_v a_o liberty_n and_o a_o get_v access_n to_o his_o countenance_n and_o stand_v before_o he_o now_o there_o be_v no_o stand_v before_o god_n but_o in_o purity_n and_o by_o purity_n of_o the_o heart_n it_o be_v the_o pure_a heart_n only_o that_o look_v upon_o god_n and_o stand_v before_o he_o for_o bless_a be_v the_o pure_a in_o heart_n say_v our_o master_n math._n 5._o for_o they_o shall_v see_v god_n the_o heart_n again_o be_v no_o way_n purge_v but_o by_o faith_n so_o it_o be_v by_o faith_n only_o that_o we_o stand_v &_o present_v ourselves_o unto_o god_n the_o good_a pastor_n to_o get_v himself_o approve_v hurt_v not_o my_o title_n and_o my_o right_n that_o i_o have_v to_o christ._n but_o though_o he_o be_v sit_v at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o father_n yet_o the_o title_n and_o right_a that_o i_o have_v to_o he_o make_v he_o i_o so_o that_o i_o may_v say_v true_o this_o christ_n be_v my_o property_n then_o christ_n be_v not_o make_v my_o because_o i_o fetch_v he_o out_o of_o the_o heaven_n but_o he_o be_v i_o because_o i_o have_v a_o sure_a title_n and_o right_a to_o he_o and_o have_v a_o sure_a title_n and_o just_a right_n to_o he_o the_o distance_n of_o place_n how_o far_o soever_o point_n christ_n body_n be_v sit_v at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o father_n and_o yet_o he_o be_v i_o and_o be_v deliver_v to_o i_o because_o i_o have_v right_a to_o his_o body_n be_v it_o vantage_n of_o we_o if_o we_o be_v so_o far_o from_o christ_n as_o the_o heaven_n be_v from_o the_o earth_n but_o this_o shall_v be_v answer_v by_o god_n grace_n i_o have_v a_o title_n to_o his_o body_n his_o body_n be_v distant_a from_o my_o body_n yet_o his_o body_n be_v not_o distant_a from_o i_o that_o be_v from_o my_o soul_n i_o say_v his_o body_n and_o my_o soul_n be_v conjoin_v it_o be_v a_o strange_a ladder_n that_o will_v reach_v from_o the_o earth_n to_o the_o heaven_n yet_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o there_o be_v a_o cord_n that_o extend_v from_o the_o earth_n to_o the_o heaven_n and_o couple_v i_o and_o christ_n together_o and_o this_o be_v only_o true_a faith_n sun_n by_o true_a faith_n christ_n though_o he_o be_v in_o the_o heaven_n be_v couple_v and_o conjoin_v with_o i_o nor_o take_v it_o up_o with_o the_o eye_n of_o thy_o body_n the_o power_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n be_v so_o subtle_a secret_a and_o invisible_a that_o thou_o can_v not_o perceive_v it_o nor_o see_v this_o ground_n of_o happiness_n be_v so_o substill_v and_o so_o spiritual_a what_o be_v your_o part_n remove_v all_o your_o outward_a sense_n remove_v all_o your_o natural_a motion_n remove_v your_o natural_a discourse_n and_o your_o natural_a reason_n and_o follow_v the_o sight_n and_o information_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n crave_v that_o it_o will_v please_v he_o to_o illuminate_v your_o understanding_n that_o by_o the_o light_n of_o his_o spirit_n you_o may_v see_v clear_o the_o spiritual_a conjunction_n except_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v give_v you_o to_o perceive_v this_o spiritual_a conjunction_n it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o you_o can_v get_v any_o insight_n in_o it_o but_o if_o the_o lord_n of_o his_o mercy_n will_v bestow_v some_o measure_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n upon_o you_o out_o of_o question_n you_o shall_v soon_o come_v to_o the_o understanding_n of_o it_o and_o you_o shall_v think_v the_o time_n happy_a that_o ever_o you_o hear_v this_o word_n except_o you_o have_v some_o part_n of_o this_o spirit_n it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o you_o can_v be_v spiritual_a that_o which_o be_v bear_v of_o flesh_n and_o blood_n will_v remain_v flesh_n and_o blood_n except_o the_o spirit_n come_v in_o and_o make_v it_o spiritual_a therefore_o you_o must_v be_v bear_v again_o of_o the_o spirit_n you_o must_v be_v bear_v in_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n his_o spirit_n must_v quicken_v you_o this_o be_v call_v the_o quicken_a and_o live_a spirit_n of_o christ_n by_o john_n and_o so_o soon_o as_o the_o spirit_n come_v what_o faithful_a soul_n be_v say_v to_o eat_v christ_n body_n and_o drink_v christ_n blood_n we_o hear_v the_o manner_n how_o christ_n be_v or_o can_v be_v receive_v of_o us._n and_o we_o conclude_v in_o this_o point_n that_o christ_n jesus_n the_o saviour_n of_o mankind_n our_o saviour_n can_v be_v perceive_v nor_o yet_o receive_v but_o by_o a_o spiritual_a way_n and_o apprehension_n neither_o the_o spirit_n and_o by_o faith_n then_o be_v he_o not_o receive_v but_o by_o way_n of_o imagination_n conceit_n and_o fantasy_n so_o they_o account_v faith_n a_o imagination_n of_o the_o mind_n a_o fantasy_n and_o opinion_n fleet_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n i_o can_v blame_v they_o to_o think_v so_o of_o faith_n for_o as_o none_o can_v judge_v of_o the_o sweetness_n of_o honey_n but_o they_o that_o have_v taste_v of_o it_o so_o there_o be_v none_o can_v discern_v nor_o judge_v of_o the_o nature_n of_o faith_n but_o they_o that_o have_v feel_v it_o
