of_o the_o mind_n which_o philosopher_n in_o their_o ethic_n prescribe_v and_o it_o be_v the_o more_o spare_o use_v by_o the_o apostle_n because_o it_o be_v too_o low_a a_o word_n to_o express_v the_o worth_n of_o the_o rich_a mercy_n and_o grace_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o apostle_n paul_n phil._n 4.8_o when_o he_o say_v if_o there_o be_v any_o virtue_n etc._n etc._n mean_v that_o if_o there_o be_v any_o virtue_n in_o which_o philosopher_n do_v excel_v they_o shall_v strive_v not_o to_o come_v behind_o those_o natural_a man_n even_o in_o those_o virtue_n such_o as_o be_v chastity_n liberality_n temperance_n sobriety_n magnanimity_n truth_n justice_n and_o such_o like_a now_o as_o the_o scripture_n take_v notice_n of_o virtue_n it_o belong_v to_o the_o duty_n of_o the_o second_o table_n as_o godliness_n do_v to_o the_o first_o and_o though_o virtue_n consider_v moral_o have_v nothing_o supernatural_a in_o it_o yet_o consider_v as_o it_o be_v propound_v here_o it_o be_v of_o singular_a worthiness_n to_o be_v regard_v for_o though_o those_o virtue_n which_o be_v in_o the_o philosopher_n be_v but_o natural_a yet_o there_o be_v certain_a virtue_n in_o christ_n belong_v to_o the_o second_o table_n which_o as_o the_o pattern_n be_v give_v we_o in_o he_o can_v never_o be_v find_v in_o mere_a natural_a man_n so_o that_o the_o apostle_n do_v of_o purpose_n separate_v the_o consideration_n of_o virtue_n and_o in_o especial_a call_n upon_o we_o to_o get_v frame_v in_o we_o those_o virtue_n which_o do_v most_o shine_v in_o the_o nature_n and_o conversation_n of_o the_o that_o be_v ceremonial_a for_o christ_n must_v be_v consider_v as_o the_o son_n of_o adam_n and_o not_o as_o the_o son_n of_o abraham_n as_o the_o son_n of_o adam_n he_o be_v bind_v to_o the_o moral_a law_n whether_o as_o it_o be_v first_o write_v in_o man_n heart_n or_o as_o after_o it_o be_v teach_v by_o tradition_n and_o at_o length_n by_o the_o write_n of_o moses_n five_o we_o be_v not_o bind_v to_o follow_v every_o action_n of_o christ_n in_o indifferent_a thing_n no_o not_o in_o such_o as_o have_v some_o circumstantial_a relation_n to_o religious_a duty_n such_o as_o be_v to_o sit_v and_o preach_v or_o to_o preach_v on_o mountain_n or_o by_o high_a way_n side_n and_o in_o a_o ship_n or_o to_o pray_v all_o night_n or_o to_o wear_v a_o garment_n without_o a_o seam_n or_o to_o sit_v at_o the_o paschall_n supper_n and_o a_o multitude_n of_o such_o like_a instance_n such_o as_o be_v the_o commandment_n to_o his_o disciple_n to_o take_v nothing_o for_o their_o journey_n neither_o staff_n nor_o scrip_n nor_o money_n nor_o two_o coat_n and_o so_o he_o preach_v the_o gospel_n free_o himself_o and_o such_o be_v his_o lift_n up_o of_o his_o eye_n to_o heaven_n in_o prayer_n they_o be_v the_o virtue_n of_o christ_n only_o which_o we_o be_v bind_v to_o follow_v and_o among_o these_o such_o as_o he_o do_v chief_o win_v reputation_n in_o be_v in_o this_o place_n special_o commend_v it_o be_v the_o duty_n then_o of_o every_o christian_n to_o study_v the_o life_n of_o his_o saviour_n and_o to_o seek_v to_o imitate_v those_o thing_n be_v most_o eminent_a in_o he_o now_o that_o this_o discretion_n the_o people_n wonder_v at_o his_o gracious_a word_n and_o the_o wisdom_n that_o be_v in_o in_o he_o luke_n 4.22_o and_o he_o require_v of_o his_o disciple_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v wise_a as_o serpent_n and_o innocent_a as_o dove_n and_o they_o shall_v grow_v in_o understanding_n and_o wisdom_n col._n 2.2_o 3._o and_o 3.10_o now_o this_o wisdom_n of_o christ_n we_o shall_v fall_v upon_o the_o world_n by_o war_n famine_n pestilence_n etc._n etc._n for_o inasmuch_o as_o world_n of_o man_n live_v without_o the_o compass_n of_o the_o obedience_n to_o god_n government_n and_o stand_v out_o as_o so_o many_o rebel_n the_o lord_n therefore_o see_v they_o will_v not_o be_v his_o people_n fight_v against_o they_o from_o heaven_n and_o make_v wonderful_a havoc_n among_o therefore_o to_o distinguish_v they_o and_o show_v how_o little_o he_o regard_v they_o he_o call_v they_o the_o evil_a people_n jer._n 13.10_o the_o disobedient_a and_o gainsaying_n people_n rom._n 10.21_o the_o people_n of_o gomorrah_n isaiah_n 1.10_o the_o people_n of_o my_o curse_n isaiah_n 34.5_o 2._o because_o god_n will_v show_v by_o his_o fierce_a wrath_n that_o he_o do_v not_o reckon_v people_n and_o all_o that_o believe_v be_v god_n people_n by_o the_o benefit_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o gospel_n now_o for_o the_o coherence_n i_o may_v note_v that_o they_o that_o be_v not_o the_o people_n of_o god_n may_v be_v the_o people_n of_o god_n and_o so_o acknowledge_v of_o god_n himself_o which_o shall_v teach_v we_o with_o meekness_n and_o patience_n to_o wait_v when_o god_n will_v turn_v those_o that_o lie_v in_o their_o sin_n and_o despair_n of_o no_o man_n and_o restrain_v fierce_a and_o perverse_a censure_n concern_v the_o final_a estate_n of_o

heart_n trouble_v their_o mind_n and_o rob_v they_o of_o all_o contentment_n beside_o it_o breed_v a_o grievous_a indisposition_n in_o they_o to_o all_o good_a duty_n both_o to_o god_n and_o man_n
