righteous_a and_o be_v angry_a with_o the_o wicked_a every_o day_n anger_n in_o god_n signify_v nothing_o of_o passion_n as_o it_o do_v in_o we_o it_o only_o signify_v god_n just_a will_n to_o punish_v sinner_n and_o the_o execution_n of_o this_o his_o just_a will_n and_o pleasure_n now_o i_o take_v that_o phrase_n god_n be_v angry_a with_o the_o wicked_a every_o day_n to_o be_v true_a in_o wicked_a every_o day_n although_o he_o be_v not_o every_o day_n plague_v they_o with_o sensible_a judgement_n yet_o when_o he_o be_v not_o do_v this_o he_o be_v let_v they_o alone_o as_o god_n speak_v concern_v ephraim_n ephraim_n be_v join_v to_o idol_n let_v he_o alone_o suffer_v they_o to_o go_v on_o in_o their_o own_o way_n by_o which_o mean_v their_o heart_n grow_v more_o hard_a and_o may_v make_v he_o willing_a and_o desirous_a but_o they_o be_v only_o the_o gift_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n that_o can_v make_v a_o man_n fit_a for_o the_o ministry_n and_o god_n never_o send_v any_o to_o any_o work_n but_o his_o providence_n fit_v they_o for_o it_o and_o the_o same_o may_v be_v say_v of_o any_o other_o relation_n or_o of_o person_n employ_v in_o any_o great_a work_n and_o as_o person_n employ_v in_o any_o work_n or_o relation_n may_v thus_o judge_v of_o themselves_o so_o also_o their_o correlate_n to_o who_o they_o be_v in_o relation_n may_v by_o this_o mean_n know_v how_o to_o judge_v of_o those_o who_o be_v in_o relation_n to_o they_o whether_o they_o be_v call_v of_o god_n or_o no_o and_o be_v such_o or_o no_o with_o who_o they_o can_v expect_v the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o from_o who_o they_o may_v expect_v god_n blessing_n and_o this_o if_o due_o think_v upon_o shall_v strike_v a_o terror_n into_o man_n in_o place_n and_o employment_n especial_o relate_v to_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n and_o in_o trust_n with_o soul_n who_o be_v no_o more_o qualify_v for_o their_o work_n than_o a_o ass_n be_v for_o a_o fiddle_n as_o we_o say_v their_o doctrine_n and_o also_o in_o their_o life_n but_o yet_o some_o be_v more_o glorious_a light_n than_o other_o be_v more_o burn_a more_o shine_a god_n call_v no_o man_n to_o the_o ministry_n but_o they_o be_v able_a to_o pray_v able_a to_o preach_v he_o set_v no_o dumb_a dog_n to_o keep_v his_o sheep_n he_o set_v none_o over_o his_o people_n to_o be_v their_o bishop_n but_o they_o be_v blameless_a sober_a of_o good_a behaviour_n give_v to_o hospitality_n apt_a to_o teach_v not_o give_v to_o wine_n no_o striker_n etc._n etc._n as_o in_o 1_o tim._n 3.2_o 3_o 4._o sober_a just_a holy_a temperate_a etc._n etc._n as_o 1_o titus_n 7.8_o it_o be_v little_o less_o than_o blasphemy_n to_o say_v god_n call_v a_o man_n to_o pray_v or_o preach_v that_o can_v do_v none_o of_o both_o that_o god_n call_v drunkard_n to_o teach_v man_n sobriety_n or_o unclean_a person_n to_o teach_v they_o chastity_n or_o covetous_a wretch_n to_o teach_v man_n hospitality_n or_o liberality_n but_o yet_o some_o may_v be_v of_o more_o eminent_a gift_n for_o prayer_n and_o preach_v some_o may_v be_v more_o eminent_a in_o grace_n more_o exemplary_a in_o holiness_n than_o other_o god_n have_v several_a station_n for_o minister_n some_o he_o set_v upon_o hill_n some_o he_o place_v in_o obscure_a valley_n and_o indeed_o herein_o the_o church_n i_o mean_v the_o ruler_n and_o governor_n of_o a_o church_n seem_v to_o have_v a_o great_a judgement_n they_o shall_v not_o judge_v a_o person_n fit_a for_o the_o ministry_n that_o be_v apparent_o unfit_a not_o be_v able_a to_o discharge_v any_o part_n of_o the_o ministerial_a work_n but_o they_o shall_v judge_v of_o the_o degree_n of_o person_n gift_n and_o ability_n so_o as_o to_o place_v person_n in_o station_n fit_a for_o they_o and_o as_o will_v be_v best_a for_o the_o edification_n of_o the_o whole_a but_o the_o caution_n which_o i_o offer_v you_o in_o this_o branch_n of_o application_n if_o you_o well_o consider_v it_o be_v of_o great_a use_n 1._o to_o restrain_v the_o unwarrantable_a judgement_n and_o censure_n of_o less_o know_v and_o prudent_a christian_n who_o be_v ready_a to_o censure_v good_a man_n of_o weak_a part_n meat_n god_n qualifi_v some_o to_o give_v milk_n to_o the_o babe_n other_o to_o give_v meat_n to_o strong_a one_o indeed_o the_o wonderful_a wisdom_n of_o god_n be_v to_o be_v see_v in_o this_o disproportion_v of_o his_o gift_n to_o his_o several_a minister_n we_o be_v poor_a vain_a creature_n and_o though_o bless_a be_v god_n some_o learned_a man_n of_o great_a reason_n and_o learning_n be_v to_o be_v find_v that_o can_v deny_v themselves_o in_o their_o ministerial_a work_n and_o preach_v to_o the_o capacity_n and_o understanding_n of_o poor_a creature_n yet_o quotusquisque_fw-la est_fw-la he_o be_v one_o of_o a_o thousand_o that_o we_o see_v do_v so_o we_o be_v like_o pedlar_n that_o think_v we_o must_v show_v all_o that_o be_v in_o our_o pack_n though_o they_o be_v little_a speak_v more_o plain_o and_o intelligible_o to_o people_n soul_n that_o their_o preach_n neither_o be_v nor_o can_v be_v in_o the_o entice_a word_n of_o man_n wisdom_n nor_o in_o the_o language_n of_o man_n that_o be_v puff_v up_o but_o be_v far_o more_o in_o the_o evidence_n and_o demonstration_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o in_o the_o power_n of_o god_n though_o less_o in_o the_o insignificant_a because_o of_o their_o plague_n but_o we_o do_v not_o only_o see_v adult_n and_o grow_v person_n smite_v of_o god_n and_o afflict_a and_o those_o as_o well_o such_o as_o fear_n god_n as_o those_o who_o have_v no_o fear_n of_o god_n before_o their_o eye_n but_o we_o also_o see_v child_n smite_v of_o god_n such_o of_o who_o we_o say_v they_o have_v neither_o do_v good_a nor_o evil_a the_o question_n be_v quest_n how_o this_o dispensation_n of_o actual_a providence_n be_v reconcileable_a to_o the_o justice_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n that_o which_o blind_v our_o eye_n and_o make_v such_o we_o see_v not_o we_o have_v no_o sufficient_a mean_n to_o understand_v and_o therefore_o free_o leave_v they_o to_o the_o good_a pleasure_n of_o god_n but_o we_o see_v they_o be_v afflict_v as_o well_o as_o other_o they_o die_v as_o much_o as_o other_o if_o not_o in_o great_a number_n shall_v we_o say_v the_o hand_n of_o god_n be_v not_o in_o this_o thing_n or_o that_o their_o sickness_n and_o death_n be_v no_o effect_n of_o punitive_a providence_n or_o vindicative_a justice_n but_o the_o mere_a product_n of_o a_o disorder_a nature_n and_o temper_n this_o be_v certain_o to_o contradict_v the_o holy_a scripture_n where_o we_o find_v the_o affliction_n of_o child_n make_v the_o matter_n of_o threaten_n the_o execution_n of_o punishment_n upon_o they_o ascribe_v to_o god_n god_n by_o his_o prophet_n threaten_v the_o death_n of_o david_n child_n by_o bathsheba_n and_o of_o jeroboam_n child_n in_o this_o text_n see_v vers_fw-la 12._o the_o affliction_n and_o trouble_n of_o child_n rise_v no_o more_o out_o of_o the_o dust_n nor_o more_o spring_v out_o of_o the_o ground_n than_o other_o their_o affliction_n come_v at_o his_o command_n work_v at_o his_o command_n they_o that_o can_v get_v to_o heaven_n with_o a_o groan_n or_o two_o with_o such_o a_o degree_n of_o pain_n and_o ache_n as_o those_o little_a body_n can_v only_o bear_v and_o that_o before_o their_o reason_n be_v improve_v by_o its_o reflection_n to_o make_v their_o pain_n and_o misery_n more_o bitter_a so_o that_o as_o to_o all_o such_o as_o be_v ordain_v unto_o life_n the_o case_n be_v plain_a divine_a goodness_n be_v eminent_o see_v in_o give_v they_o so_o short_a a_o passage_n through_o the_o vale_n of_o misery_n and_o show_v they_o a_o far_o short_a and_o near_a way_n to_o heaven_n than_o what_o more_o grow_v person_n must_v go_v through_o much_o tribulation_n now_o though_o i_o can_v assure_v you_o this_o concern_v all_o yet_o i_o can_v concern_v many_o which_o make_v the_o day_n of_o their_o affliction_n and_o death_n to_o be_v much_o better_a than_o the_o day_n wherein_o it_o be_v say_v of_o they_o there_o be_v a_o child_n bear_v into_o the_o world_n and_o sure_o if_o the_o thracian_n who_o be_v heathen_n upon_o the_o prospect_n of_o no_o more_o than_o the_o misery_n to_o which_o humane_a life_n be_v subject_v can_v alter_v the_o common_a custom_n of_o rejoice_v at_o nativity_n and_o mourn_v at_o burial_n into_o a_o mourning_n at_o the_o birth_n of_o their_o child_n and_o a_o rejoice_v and_o triumph_v at_o the_o death_n of_o their_o friend_n we_o to_o who_o a_o life_n and_o immortality_n be_v bring_v to_o light_n by_o the_o gospel_n and_o to_o who_o the_o immediate_a transition_n of_o elect_a soul_n out_o of_o a_o state_n of_o mortality_n and_o misery_n into_o a_o state_n of_o happiness_n and_o eternal_a blessedness_n be_v matter_n of_o faith_n have_v much_o more_o reason_n to_o adore_v the_o goodness_n of_o god_n in_o the_o present_a determination_n of_o our_o child_n life_n than_o to_o quarrel_v at_o divine_a providence_n for_o bring_v such_o thing_n to_o pass_v while_o it_o do_v we_o nor_o we_o any_o further_a harm_n than_o deprive_v we_o of_o the_o little_a pleasure_n we_o take_v in_o behold_v those_o picture_n of_o ourselves_o dandle_v they_o in_o our_o lap_n hug_v they_o in_o our_o bosom_n while_o also_o this_o pleasure_n be_v embitter_v to_o we_o by_o a_o thousand_o fear_n and_o care_n and_o sollicitude_n and_o trouble_n for_o with_o and_o concern_v they_o but_o because_o i_o can_v assure_v you_o this_o concern_v all_o something_o further_o must_v yet_o be_v say_v to_o vindicate_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n in_o this_o dispensation_n 2._o therefore_o i_o say_v the_o original_a sin_n of_o child_n be_v enough_o to_o justify_v god_n in_o all_o his_o affliction_n of_o child_n nor_o be_v this_o that_o i_o know_v deny_v by_o any_o valuable_a or_o considerable_a party_n it_o be_v indeed_o the_o opinion_n of_o arminius_n that_o no_o person_n be_v damn_v mere_o for_o original_a sin_n but_o upon_o what_o ground_n none_o of_o his_o disciple_n have_v be_v able_a ever_o to_o tell_v the_o world_n to_o any_o satisfaction_n and_o he_o not_o as_o god_n they_o know_v god_n by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n and_o sin_v against_o that_o light_n all_o the_o other_o text_n speak_v of_o sin_v against_o the_o light_n of_o revelation_n god_n for_o man_n bold_a and_o impudent_a sin_v against_o natural_a light_n or_o against_o the_o light_n of_o his_o word_n do_v many_o time_n deliver_v up_o man_n in_o this_o manner_n but_o the_o great_a question_n be_v quest_n how_o be_v this_o reconcilable_a to_o the_o goodness_n purity_n and_o holiness_n of_o god_n god_n in_o scripture_n do_v frequent_o declare_v that_o he_o delight_v not_o will_v it_o and_o if_o he_o will_v it_o how_o shall_v he_o be_v excuse_v from_o be_v the_o author_n of_o it_o to_o which_o i_o answer_v 1._o if_o we_o mean_v by_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n his_o circumstance_n those_o sinner_n be_v who_o god_n bring_v under_o they_o let_v we_o understand_v what_o god_n do_v in_o these_o dispensation_n 1._o negative_o we_o say_v god_n do_v not_o infuse_v any_o he_o he_o that_o form_v he_o can_v show_v he_o no_o favour_n without_o a_o dethron_a himself_o and_o make_v himself_o the_o contempt_n of_o his_o creature_n this_o every_o sinner_n do_v one_o more_o open_o and_o bold_o another_o more_o secret_o and_o tacit_o every_o fool_n if_o he_o do_v not_o speak_v it_o with_o his_o tongue_n yet_o say_v in_o his_o heart_n there_o be_v no_o god_n while_o vain_a
