as_o much_o cause_n of_o comfort_n in_o this_o sorrow_n as_o in_o the_o joy_n when_o you_o have_v it_o when_o you_o see_v your_o soul_n can_v mourn_v unfeigned_o for_o that_o you_o see_v so_o good_a a_o god_n to_o such_o a_o wretch_n this_o very_a comfortable_a sorrow_n that_o be_v leave_v in_o thy_o heart_n be_v a_o undoubted_a pledge_n that_o it_o be_v not_o a_o vanish_v joy_n the_o power_n and_o work_v of_o it_o last_v long_o and_o will_v abide_v in_o the_o soul_n for_o ever_o a_o man_n will_v in_o such_o a_o case_n mourn_v for_o his_o sin_n while_o he_o live_v if_o you_o have_v house_n and_o if_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v you_o put_v it_o upon_o any_o body_n rather_o than_o upon_o yourself_o you_o may_v be_v a_o live_a christian_n but_o your_o heart_n be_v in_o a_o dead_a frame_n at_o that_o time_n and_o if_o it_o be_v always_o so_o with_o you_o you_o never_o do_v true_o live_v but_o if_o you_o find_v your_o spirit_n at_o least_o your_o heart_n come_v on_o most_o willing_o to_o christian_a duty_n that_o you_o perform_v they_o like_o freewill_n offering_n not_o free_a so_o as_o without_o warrant_n from_o god_n word_n but_o free_a in_o respect_n of_o grace_n do_v but_o observe_v thus_o much_o it_o may_v be_v you_o may_v come_v off_o free_o before_o god_n because_o he_o have_v give_v you_o spiritual_a gift_n and_o you_o can_v quit_v yourselves_o well_o scarce_o feel_v any_o life_n breathe_v in_o their_o knowledge_n or_o prayer_n or_o appetite_n to_o the_o word_n or_o love_n to_o their_o brethren_n little_a warmth_n in_o any_o of_o these_o partly_o through_o want_n of_o supply_v the_o life_n of_o god_n grace_n with_o fit_a nourishment_n whereby_o the_o heart_n shall_v grow_v warm_a as_o natural_a fire_n if_o it_o be_v not_o supply_v with_o new_a fuel_n it_o will_v go_v out_o and_o partly_o sometime_o by_o pour_v cold_a water_n upon_o it_o which_o be_v as_o much_o as_o in_o we_o lie_v to_o damp_n the_o fire_n and_o we_o do_v power_n cold_a water_n upon_o this_o life_n of_o grace_n when_o we_o admit_v of_o any_o sinful_a lust_n in_o our_o soul_n those_o do_v marvellous_o eat_v out_o all_o that_o life_n and_o heat_n of_o spirit_n that_o if_o you_o shall_v throw_v cold_a water_n upon_o a_o fire_n it_o will_v damp_n it_o very_o much_o so_o be_v this_o case_n man_n sometime_o walk_v in_o worldly_a business_n with_o worldly_a affection_n and_o sometime_o give_v leave_n to_o distemper_a lust_n and_o sometime_o neglect_v to_o put_v any_o fuel_n to_o the_o fire_n of_o grace_n but_o as_o soon_o as_o ever_o they_o find_v the_o heart_n well_o warm_v with_o some_o good_a sermon_n or_o a_o good_a prayer_n or_o conference_n or_o the_o like_a they_o think_v this_o fire_n will_v never_o go_v out_o and_o so_o they_o begin_v to_o neglect_v it_o and_o so_o either_o the_o fire_n go_v quit_v out_o or_o else_o be_v so_o damp_a as_o that_o you_o can_v discern_v no_o life_n no_o savour_n or_o power_n of_o religion_n there_o and_o therefore_o such_o a_o thing_n may_v befall_v god_n servant_n they_o may_v grow_v dull_a heart_a one_o way_n or_o other_o as_o you_o have_v hear_v but_o yet_o thus_o much_o let_v i_o say_v though_o this_o what_o this_o christ_n be_v and_o what_o this_o will_v come_v to_o we_o hope_v this_o be_v he_o that_o shall_v redeem_v israel_n etc._n etc._n then_o christ_n begin_v to_o put_v a_o little_a warmth_n into_o they_o by_o say_v ought_v not_o christ_n to_o suffer_v these_o thing_n v._o 24_o 25._o and_o so_o he_o open_v to_o they_o the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o himself_o and_o these_o word_n put_v new_a life_n into_o they_o and_o do_v blow_v up_o the_o spirit_n and_o heat_n of_o that_o decay_a life_n which_o be_v overwhelm_v with_o grief_n and_o care_n their_o heart_n be_v heat_v yet_o so_o that_o take_v you_o a_o christian_a man_n when_o he_o be_v even_o in_o the_o most_o disorder_v framelook_v how_o much_o he_o have_v lose_v of_o his_o spiritual_a heat_n so_o much_o of_o his_o true_a life_n if_o he_o have_v leave_v to_o be_v warm_a so_o much_o life_n have_v he_o lose_v and_o if_o his_o warmth_n be_v smother_v his_o life_n be_v smother_v for_o the_o present_a and_o even_o as_o life_n will_v show_v itself_o in_o the_o very_a sad_a face_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o dejection_n of_o spirit_n that_o they_o fall_v into_o and_o sometime_o in_o the_o deep_a sigh_n and_o groan_n of_o the_o heart_n which_o in_o such_o a_o case_n it_o sometime_o will_v break_v forth_o into_o so_o a_o christian_a soul_n when_o his_o heat_n be_v most_o damp_a there_o be_v a_o sad_a face_n in_o his_o spirit_n that_o he_o discern_v all_o be_v not_o well_o with_o he_o his_o spirit_n be_v benumb_v &_o his_o heart_n in_o his_o own_o thought_n be_v freeze_v within_o he_o it_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o he_o and_o a_o matter_n of_o sadness_n to_o his_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o he_o do_v express_v himself_o sometime_o with_o many_o sad_a and_o deep_a sigh_n and_o groan_n about_o his_o forlorn_a and_o lose_v estate_n and_o yet_o sometime_o you_o shall_v have_v his_o heart_n even_o then_o when_o his_o heart_n be_v most_o cold_a which_o be_v worse_o than_o the_o former_a for_o you_o shall_v sometime_o have_v a_o christian_a soul_n not_o only_o not_o affect_v with_o sadness_n this_o 〈◊〉_d this_o when_o his_o life_n be_v smother_v within_o he_o but_o vanish_v away_o in_o much_o empty_a carnal_a delight_n and_o contentment_n and_o rejoice_v in_o those_o comfort_n which_o have_v no_o life_n at_o all_o in_o they_o a_o christian_a man_n that_o have_v his_o life_n so_o deadened_a may_v come_v not_o only_o to_o have_v nothing_o leave_v but_o sadness_n of_o heart_n to_o behold_v it_o but_o he_o may_v loose_v his_o sadness_n too_o and_o even_o
our_o brethren_n and_o enemy_n beast_n will_v require_v it_o if_o we_o find_v they_o out_o of_o the_o way_n or_o fall_v down_o under_o their_o burden_n and_o you_o see_v god_n require_v this_o love_n to_o ourselves_o that_o we_o shall_v make_v some_o use_n to_o ourselves_o of_o our_o brethren_n fall_n as_o first_o if_o you_o see_v a_o brother_n sin_n whatever_o sin_n it_o be_v learn_v we_o to_o fear_n god_n and_o that_o be_v true_a christian_a affection_n to_o be_v first_o affect_v with_o a_o holy_a fear_n of_o your_o own_o weakness_n we_o shall_v be_v jealous_a of_o the_o sinful_a frame_n that_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n have_v not_o receive_v a_o impossibility_n of_o error_n in_o his_o time_n he_o make_v account_n in_o his_o time_n if_o that_o israel_n which_o be_v the_o natural_a lie_v under_o his_o burden_n lift_v he_o up_o or_o if_o his_o estate_n and_o condition_n be_v such_o as_o that_o you_o can_v by_o no_o mean_n have_v opportunity_n to_o speak_v to_o he_o or_o if_o you_o shall_v happy_o your_o labour_n will_v be_v in_o vain_a and_o if_o you_o shall_v fail_v here_o and_o can_v reach_v he_o yet_o whether_o he_o will_v or_o no_o you_o may_v power_n out_o your_o soul_n to_o god_n in_o his_o behalf_n and_o so_o may_v you_o do_v he_o good_a we_o ought_v so_o to_o do_v and_o not_o to_o fail_v therein_o and_o that_o will_v be_v of_o special_a use_n to_o help_v we_o this_o way_n to_o hear_v of_o the_o sin_n and_o fall_n of_o our_o brethren_n be_v much_o but_o to_o see_v they_o be_v more_o to_o see_v such_o heavy_a burden_n lie_v upon_o his_o soul_n that_o he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o subsist_v in_o such_o a_o case_n as_o this_o there_o will_v be_v a_o special_a compassion_n kindle_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o live_a christian_a for_o live_a christian_n be_v love_a christian_n so_o far_o as_o live_v so_o far_o love_v for_o the_o whole_a life_n of_o christianity_n be_v but_o faith_n towards_o god_n and_o love_n towards_o our_o brethren_n object_n but_o say_v you_o you_o will_v not_o have_v we_o to_o shut_v our_o eye_n upon_o the_o fail_n of_o our_o brethren_n but_o to_o see_v and_o observe_v they_o but_o do_v not_o the_o holy_a ghost_n say_v love_n cover_v a_o multitude_n of_o sin_n as_o if_o we_o shall_v smother_v they_o neither_o meddle_v nor_o make_v with_o they_o answ_n but_o yet_o though_o love_v cover_v a_o multitude_n of_o sin_n yet_o how_o do_v it_o cover_v they_o first_o with_o a_o mantle_n of_o wisdom_n then_o with_o a_o mantle_n of_o faithfulness_n and_o then_o a_o mantle_n of_o compassion_n a_o mantle_n of_o wisdom_n when_o a_o man_n so_o cover_v it_o as_o not_o to_o skin_v it_o over_o wisdom_n mantle_n of_o wisdom_n but_o to_o cover_v it_o so_o effectual_o as_o that_o it_o may_v be_v cover_v from_o the_o eye_n of_o god_n and_o man_n jam._n 5.19_o 20._o this_o be_v a_o wise_a cover_n of_o a_o multitude_n of_o sin_n when_o a_o man_n take_v a_o course_n not_o only_o to_o cover_v they_o from_o the_o eye_n of_o man_n but_o principal_o from_o the_o conscience_n of_o the_o sinner_n himself_o as_o that_o in_o time_n he_o be_v not_o over-pressed_n with_o they_o and_o then_o when_o he_o be_v least_o able_a to_o bear_v they_o and_o so_o endanger_v whole_o to_o overwhelm_a he_o for_o let_v a_o man_n go_v on_o in_o sin_n he_o go_v on_o from_o day_n to_o day_n and_o think_v himself_o fish_n whole_a and_o yet_o it_o be_v neither_o cover_v from_o god_n eye_n nor_o from_o the_o conscience_n of_o such_o a_o soul_n and_o in_o the_o end_n it_o can_v but_o see_v it_o and_o then_o so_o bitter_o bewail_v it_o that_o it_o be_v much_o to_o be_v fear_v he_o will_v be_v quite_o overwhelm_v with_o it_o and_o therefore_o this_o a_o man_n must_v have_v principal_a respect_n unto_o principal_o to_o cover_v his_o sin_n from_o god_n eye_n and_o that_o it_o may_v likewise_o be_v so_o cover_v as_o not_o to_o be_v smother_v and_o daub_v but_o cover_v it_o with_o a_o heal_a plaster_n so_o as_o that_o in_o time_n it_o may_v be_v root_v out_o that_o no_o sprig_n of_o such_o a_o sin_n may_v remain_v there_o not_o a_o mantle_n of_o flattery_n but_o heal_v such_o as_o whereby_o they_o may_v be_v careful_a to_o take_v a_o course_n that_o such_o evil_n may_v be_v cover_v with_o some_o corrisive_a plaster_n second_o faithfulness_n mantle_n of_o faithfulness_n with_o a_o mantle_n of_o faithfulness_n not_o to_o discover_v the_o sin_n of_o other_o further_o than_o will_v be_v of_o necessity_n for_o the_o heal_n of_o they_o if_o a_o man_n be_v fall_v under_o his_o burden_n or_o under_o his_o beast_n and_o he_o be_v not_o able_a himself_o to_o help_v he_o up_o he_o must_v then_o call_v they_o that_o be_v of_o strength_n and_o may_v be_v of_o use_n to_o help_v a_o man_n in_o such_o a_o case_n so_o that_o if_o in_o this_o case_n if_o a_o man_n integrity_n of_o heart_n tell_v he_o that_o he_o aim_v at_o no_o more_o in_o make_v know_v his_o brethren_n fail_n but_o to_o help_v his_o brother_n out_o of_o those_o fall_n prov._n 11.13_o when_o a_o man_n reveal_v a_o matter_n no_o further_o then_o to_o gather_v help_n to_o restore_v he_o it_o be_v well_o but_o because_o there_o be_v a_o snare_n in_o
