voice_n of_o the_o gospel_n or_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n the_o man_n that_o do_v those_o thing_n shall_v live_v by_o they_o yet_o be_v it_o no_o part_n of_o his_o meaning_n to_o imply_v or_o teach_v that_o by_o the_o literal_a performance_n of_o the_o legal_a ceremony_n man_n either_o be_v or_o may_v have_v be_v save_v the_o law_n of_o which_o the_o apostle_n speak_v be_v not_o the_o externalitie_n of_o it_o for_o god_n never_o make_v any_o such_o covenant_n with_o or_o promise_v unto_o any_o man_n that_o by_o do_v external_o only_o he_o shall_v be_v either_o justify_v or_o save_v which_o mr._n a'_v do_v evident_o suppose_v nor_o do_v his_o second_o scripture_n stand_v any_o whit_n close_o to_o his_o cause_n than_o the_o first_o for_o when_o the_o apostle_n say_v gal._n 3._o 12._o the_o law_n be_v not_o of_o faith_n but_o the_o man_n that_o do_v they_o shall_v live_v in_o they_o his_o meaning_n be_v not_o that_o the_o law_n require_v not_o as_o well_o the_o conformity_n and_o subjection_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n unto_o it_o as_o viz._n in_o love_n faith_n holiness_n humility_n etc._n etc._n as_o of_o the_o outward_a consist_v of_o a_o mere_a bodily_a observation_n yea_o in_o a_o sense_n of_o all_o man_n simple_o a_o universal_a and_o constant_a obedience_n and_o subjection_n unto_o it_o in_o the_o whole_a compass_n and_o extent_n of_o it_o according_a to_o what_o he_o have_v more_o plain_o say_v a_o verse_n or_o two_o before_o curse_v be_v every_o one_o that_o continu_v not_o in_o all_o thing_n which_o be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o the_o law_n and_o write_v they_o in_o their_o heart_n heb._n 8._o 10_o or_o again_o that_o the_o true_a worshipper_n shall_v worship_v the_o father_n in_o spirit_n and_o in_o truth_n what_o be_v there_o i_o say_v in_o all_o or_o in_o any_o of_o these_o or_o in_o twenty_o more_o of_o a_o like_a import_n to_o prove_v that_o much_o of_o the_o benefit_n of_o circumcision_n do_v accrue_v to_o the_o circumcise_a upon_o the_o work_n do_v or_o that_o the_o benefit_n of_o baptism_n be_v any_o whit_n more_o suspend_v upon_o the_o knowledge_n faith_n etc._n etc._n of_o he_o who_o be_v baptize_v than_o the_o benefit_n of_o circumcision_n be_v &_o c_o all_o that_o can_v be_v infer_v from_o these_o and_o such_o like_a passage_n be_v only_o these_o and_o such_o like_a notion_n that_o god_n be_v more_o communicative_a of_o the_o clear_a knowledge_n of_o himself_o and_o of_o the_o mystery_n of_o his_o will_n concern_v the_o salvation_n of_o the_o world_n by_o jesus_n christ_n under_o the_o gospel_n than_o he_o be_v under_o the_o law_n that_o the_o anoint_v of_o the_o generality_n of_o the_o saint_n with_o the_o spirit_n under_o this_o dispensation_n the_o law_n be_v nothing_o so_o rich_a or_o full_a as_o it_o now_o be_v under_o the_o gospel_n that_o the_o institute_v worship_n especial_o the_o public_a worship_n and_o service_n of_o god_n under_o the_o law_n consist_v in_o a_o far_o great_a number_n and_o variety_n of_o external_a rite_n and_o observation_n than_o now_o under_o the_o gospel_n that_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o people_n yea_o of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n themselves_o be_v general_o nothing_o so_o raise_v or_o enlarge_v to_o the_o obedience_n of_o god_n under_o the_o law_n as_o they_o be_v and_o especial_o will_v be_v when_o the_o time_n come_v under_o the_o gospel_n etc._n etc._n but_o none_o of_o these_o thing_n prove_v so_o much_o as_o inshew_v that_o according_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o legal_a ministration_n child_n void_a of_o understanding_n and_o faith_n be_v any_o whit_n more_o capable_a of_o holy_a thing_n or_o of_o the_o end●_n and_o benefit_n of_o they_o in_o part_n upon_o a_o literal_a administration_n or_o reception_n of_o they_o than_o child_n now_o be_v under_o the_o gospel_n for_o my_o better_a

the_o rudiment_n of_o the_o world_n in_o such_o a_o sense_n as_o this_o viz._n because_o they_o be_v manage_v and_o order_v by_o such_o principle_n of_o wisdom_n as_o those_o by_o which_o the_o mosaical_a ceremony_n be_v order_v by_o god_n which_o yet_o must_v be_v m._n a_n sense_n to_o make_v his_o citation_n of_o the_o word_n any_o way_n pertinent_a to_o his_o purpose_n but_o if_o we_o must_v needs_o for_o mr._n a_n sake_n though_o contrary_a to_o reason_n interpret_v the_o rudiment_n of_o the_o world_n the_o ceremony_n of_o moses_n that_o character_n of_o evil_a or_o of_o danger_n upon_o thing_n which_o the_o apostle_n place_v in_o this_o that_o they_o be_v after_o the_o rudiment_n of_o the_o world_n must_v be_v conceive_v to_o stand_v in_o this_o that_o they_o be_v of_o like_a nature_n and_o consideration_n in_o appearance_n with_o the_o old_a ceremony_n of_o the_o law_n viz._n external_a and_o carnal_a rite_n and_o observation_n have_v no_o communion_n with_o the_o spiritualnes_n or_o inwardnes_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o have_v chief_o to_o do_v with_o the_o heart_n &_o soul_n &_o conscience_n of_o man_n and_o injoyn_v such_o way_n and_o action_n and_o exercising_n of_o themselves_o unto_o man_n which_o be_v proper_a to_o arise_v and_o proceed_v from_o a_o heart_n sanctify_v through_o faith_n and_o fill_v with_o the_o love_n of_o god_n now_o baptism_n to_o whosoever_o administer_v can_v in_o any_o such_o sense_n as_o this_o be_v say_v to_o be_v after_o the_o rudiment_n of_o the_o world_n or_o the_o legal_a ceremony_n because_o it_o be_v a_o evangelicall_n ordinance_n and_o command_v by_o christ_n himself_o or_o if_o it_o be_v after_o these_o it_o be_v as_o well_o and_o as_o much_o after_o they_o when_o administer_v unto_o man_n and_o woman_n as_o when_o unto_o child_n inasmuch_o as_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o be_v not_o alter_v or_o change_v by_o be_v administer_v unto_o man_n so_o that_o mr._n a._n be_v extreme_o out_o of_o his_o way_n to_o think_v that_o the_o administration_n of_o baptism_n unto_o infant_n be_v any_o way_n touch_v or_o concern_v in_o that_o clause_n of_o the_o apostle_n wherein_o he_o censure_v thing_n as_o dangerous_a and_o of_o threaten_a consequence_n for_o be_v after_o the_o rudiment_n of_o the_o world_n and_o not_o after_o christ_n sect._n 141._o although_o it_o nothing_o concern_v the_o cause_n in_o hand_n to_o follow_v he_o in_o his_o answer_n to_o that_o objection_n which_o he_o fall_v upon_o though_o very_o unreasonable_o and_o irrelative_o to_o the_o business_n before_o we_o and_o lead_v unto_o it_o by_o the_o false_a light_n of_o his_o understanding_n the_o clause_n late_o mention_v after_o the_o rudiment_n of_o the_o world_n p._n 32._o yet_o to_o afford_v he_o a_o opportunity_n to_o as_o himself_o propound_v it_o p._n 32._o be_v this_o that_o both_o our_o saviour_n and_o his_o apostle_n vindicate_v and_o assert_v practice_n under_o the_o gospel_n from_o the_o example_n and_o practice_n under_o the_o law_n as_o the_o disciple_n gather_v ear_n of_o corn_n on_o the_o sabbath_n from_o david_n eat_v the_o show_n bread_n etc._n etc._n mat._n 12._o 3_o 4_o 5._o the_o minister_a in_o carnal_a thing_n to_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n from_o the_o not_o muzle_v the_o mouth_n of_o the_o ox_n that_o tread_v out_o the_o corn_n under_o the_o law_n 1_o cor._n 9_o 9_o 10._o to_o this_o objection_n he_o answer_v 1._o that_o it_o do_v not_o appear_v that_o man_n of_o private_a spirit_n want_v that_o infallible_a guidance_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n have_v may_v use_v like_o liberty_n in_o this_o behalf_n but_o for_o answer_n to_o this_o answer_n 1._o be_v not_o see_v man_n competent_a guide_n unto_o those_o that_o be_v blind_a and_o if_o it_o be_v not_o lawful_a or_o safe_a for_o we_o to_o follow_v or_o imitate_v christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n in_o any_o thing_n they_o do_v because_o we_o want_v the_o infallible_a guidance_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o they_o have_v what_o christian_n or_o worthy_a way_n almost_o be_v leave_v for_o we_o to_o walk_v in_o 2._o whereas_o he_o seem_v to_o distinguish_v between_o the_o guidance_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o to_o make_v some_o infallible_a and_o other_o fallible_a i_o can_v at_o no_o hand_n subscribe_v his_o distinction_n i_o can_v believe_v any_o guidance_n whatsoever_o of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o be_v fallible_a i●_n such_o which_o may_v mislead_v or_o deceive_v those_o that_o be_v guide_v by_o it_o only_o if_o by_o a_o infallible_a guidance_n he_o mean_v such_o a_o guidance_n which_o they_o who_o be_v partaker_n of_o it_o know_v certain_o to_o be_v such_o i_o mean_v infallible_a and_o by_o a_o fallible_a guidance_n such_o that_o they_o who_o be_v guide_v by_o it_o may_v possible_o doubt_v whether_o it_o be_v his_o guidance_n and_o so_o infallible_a or_o no_o and_o in_o this_o respect_n may_v deceive_v they_o his_o distinction_n i_o suppose_v may_v pass_v but_o than_o ●_o of_o what_o guidance_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n can_v we_o be_v more_o confident_a that_o it_o be_v he_o and_o consequent_o infallible_a then_o when_o we_o be_v lead_v by_o he_o to_o such_o ground_n and_o principle_n of_o argue_v upon_o which_o he_o teach_v those_o to_o argue_v and_o conclude_v in_o who_o his_o guidance_n be_v infallible_a and_o know_v to_o be_v such_o by_o these_o person_n themselves_o and_o acknowledge_v for_o such_o by_o we_o also_o sect._n 142._o and_o whereas_o mr._n a._n endeavour_n to_o strengthen_v his_o answer_n thus_o nay_o have_v not_o the_o presumption_n thus_o to_o do_v be_v the_o sluice_n through_o which_o many_o popish_a superstition_n have_v first_o enter_v into_o the_o world_n as_o suppose_v they_o to_o hold_v a_o analogical_a and_o equitable_a proportion_n with_o many_o the_o jewish_a custom_n i_o answer_v that_o what_o sluice_n soever_o a_o presumption_n of_o imitate_v christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n in_o the_o method_n and_o ground_n of_o their_o arguing_n may_v be_v for_o the_o let_n in_o either_o of_o popish_a superstition_n or_o other_o erroneous_a opinion_n certain_a it_o be_v that_o a_o due_o considerate_a and_o real_a imitation_n of_o they_o in_o this_o kind_n must_v needs_o be_v a_o happy_a sluice_n to_o let_v in_o many_o necessary_a and_o important_a truth_n into_o the_o world_n for_o how_o small_a a_o portion_n of_o those_o truth_n which_o be_v important_o necessary_a to_o be_v know_v be_v express_o or_o as_o we_o use_v to_o say_v totidem_fw-la verbis_fw-la deliver_v in_o scripture_n and_o if_o it_o be_v not_o lawful_a or_o safe_a to_o draw_v conclusion_n from_o scripture-principle_n or_o ground_n the_o christian_n world_n must_v bear_v a_o intolerable_a burden_n of_o darkness_n and_o ignorance_n or_o of_o hesitancie_n and_o doubtfulness_n at_o the_o best_a which_o be_v little_o better_a than_o ignorance_n if_o not_o the_o same_o in_o thing_n of_o high_a concernment_n unto_o it_o yea_o if_o it_o be_v not_o safe_a to_o draw_v conclusion_n upon_o the_o term_n now_o mention_v mr._n a._n with_o all_o his_o anti-poedo-baptismall_a train_n have_v run_v a_o dangerous_a course_n in_o oppose_a infant-baptism_n there_o be_v as_o be_v notorious_o know_v no_o plain_n or_o express_v scripture_n against_o it_o no_o not_o yet_o the_o truth_n be_v of_o any_o more_o remote_a or_o obscure_a overture_n but_o mr._n a._n seem_v to_o be_v a_o little_a jealous_a that_o his_o objection_n will_v ride_v over_o the_o head_n of_o this_o answer_n therefore_o he_o bring_v a_o second_o to_o encounter_v it_o the_o tenor_n hereof_o be_v 1._o though_o christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n do_v both_o back_n and_o illustrate_v their_o doctrine_n and_o precept_n from_o instance_n and_o example_n under_o the_o law_n yet_o they_o never_o make_v these_o example_n the_o sole_a ground_n and_o foundation_n thereof_o but_o these_o be_v still_o build_v upon_o that_o authority_n which_o they_o have_v from_o god_n otherwise_o 2._o the_o thing_n which_o both_o christ_n and_o the_o apostle_n in_o the_o case_n ob●ected_v plead_v for_o example_n out_o of_o the_o law_n be_v not_o mere_o and_o bare_o institutive_a and_o positive_a but_o of_o a_o moral_a consideration_n and_o so_o of_o a_o more_o ready_a perception_n and_o deduction_n from_o those_o example_n for_o answer_v sect._n 143._o 1._o be_v the_o two_o member_n of_o this_o answer_n of_o any_o good_a accord_n between_o themselves_o or_o when_o the_o thing_n which_o they_o christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n teach_v be_v of_o a_o moral_a consideration_n and_o so_o of_o a_o more_o ready_a perception_n &_o deduction_n from_o scripture-example_n be_v it_o proper_a for_o they_o to_o insist_v upon_o
