scorn_n upon_o those_o that_o will_v live_v according_a to_o the_o scripture_n as_o harden_v multitude_n in_o their_o impenitency_n o_o dreadful_a reckon_n to_o these_o unfaithful_a shepherd_n when_o they_o must_v answer_v for_o the_o ruin_n of_o their_o miserable_a flock_n how_o great_a will_v their_o damnation_n be_v which_o must_v be_v aggravate_v by_o the_o damnation_n of_o so_o many_o other_o when_o the_o question_n be_v how_o come_v so_o many_o soul_n to_o perish_v the_o answer_n must_v be_v because_o they_o â—et_a light_n by_o christ_n and_o holiness_n which_o shall_v have_v save_v they_o but_o what_o make_v they_o set_v light_n by_o christ_n and_o holiness_n it_o be_v their_o deceitful_a confidence_n that_o they_o have_v so_o much_o part_n in_o christ_n and_o holiness_n as_o will_v suffice_v to_o save_v they_o though_o indeed_o they_o be_v unsanctified_a stranger_n unto_o both_o they_o be_v not_o practical_o acquaint_v with_o thâ—ir_a necessity_n but_o how_o come_v they_o to_o continue_v thus_o ignorant_a of_o themselves_o till_o it_o be_v too_o late_o because_o they_o have_v teacher_n that_o keep_v they_o strange_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o true_a holiness_n and_o do_v not_o labour_v public_o and_o private_o to_o convince_v they_o of_o their_o undo_a condition_n and_o to_o drive_v they_o to_o christ_n that_o by_o he_o they_o may_v have_v life_n woe_n to_o such_o teacher_n that_o ever_o they_o be_v bear_v that_o must_v then_o be_v find_v under_o the_o guilt_n of_o such_o perfidiousness_n &_o cruelty_n have_v they_o ever_o feel_v themselves_o what_o be_v it_o to_o be_v pursue_v by_o the_o law_n and_o conscience_n and_o with_o break_a heart_n to_o cast_v themselves_o on_o christ_n as_o their_o only_a hope_n and_o refuge_n and_o what_o it_o be_v to_o be_v pardon_v and_o save_v by_o he_o from_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o what_o it_o be_v to_o be_v sanctify_v and_o to_o be_v sensible_a of_o all_o his_o love_n they_o will_v take_v another_o course_n with_o sinner_n and_o talk_v of_o sin_n and_o christ_n and_o holiness_n at_o other_o rate_n and_o not_o deceive_v their_o people_n with_o themselves_o direct_v 1._o my_o first_o direction_n therefore_o to_o you_o be_v in_o order_n to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o yourselves_o that_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a you_o will_v live_v under_o a_o faithful_a soul-searching_a skilful_a pastor_n and_o that_o you_o will_v make_v use_n of_o his_o public_a and_o personal_a help_n to_o bring_v you_o and_o keep_v you_o in_o continual_a acquaintance_n with_o yourselves_o as_o there_o be_v a_o double_a use_n of_o physician_n one_o general_n to_o teach_v man_n the_o common_a principle_n of_o physic_n and_o read_v they_o lecture_n of_o the_o nature_n of_o disease_n and_o their_o cause_n and_o remedy_n and_o the_o other_o particular_a to_o apply_v these_o common_a precept_n to_o each_o individual_a person_n as_o they_o need_v so_o be_v there_o a_o double_a use_n of_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n one_o to_o deliver_v public_o the_o common_a doctrine_n of_o christianity_n concern_v man_n sin_n and_o misery_n and_o the_o remedy_n etc._n etc._n and_o the_o other_o to_o help_v people_n in_o the_o personal_a application_n of_o all_o this_o to_o themselves_o and_o they_o that_o take_v up_o only_o with_o the_o former_a deprive_v themselves_o of_o half_a the_o benefit_n of_o the_o ministry_n 1._o in_o public_a how_o skilful_a and_o diligent_a shall_v we_o be_v in_o open_v the_o heart_n of_o sinner_n to_o themselves_o the_o pulpit_n be_v but_o our_o candlestick_n from_o which_o we_o shall_v diffuse_v the_o holy_a light_n into_o all_o the_o assembly_n not_o speak_v the_o same_o thing_n of_o all_o that_o be_v before_o we_o as_o if_o it_o be_v our_o work_n only_o to_o trouble_v man_n or_o only_o to_o comfort_v they_o but_o as_o the_o same_o light_n will_v show_v every_o man_n the_o thing_n which_o he_o behold_v in_o their_o variety_n and_o difference_n we_o see_v by_o the_o same_o sun_n a_o man_n to_o be_v a_o man_n and_o a_o beast_n to_o be_v a_o beast_n and_o a_o bird_n to_o be_v a_o bird_n so_o the_o same_o word_n of_o truth_n which_o we_o deliver_v must_v be_v so_o discover_v and_o discriminate_v as_o to_o manifest_v the_o ungodly_a to_o be_v ungodly_a and_o the_o carnal_a to_o be_v carnal_a the_o worldling_n to_o be_v a_o worldling_n the_o hypocrite_n to_o be_v a_o hypocrite_n and_o the_o enemy_n of_o holiness_n to_o be_v as_o they_o be_v and_o the_o sincere_a to_o be_v sincere_a and_o the_o renew_a soul_n to_o be_v indeed_o renew_v the_o same_o light_n must_v show_v the_o excellency_n of_o sanctification_n and_o the_o filthiness_n of_o sin_n the_o glory_n of_o the_o image_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o deformity_n of_o that_o spiritual_a death_n which_o be_v its_o privation_n it_o must_v show_v the_o righteous_a to_o be_v more_o excellent_a than_o his_o neighbour_n prov._n 12_o 26._o and_o help_v man_n to_o discern_v between_o the_o righteous_a and_o the_o wicked_a between_o he_o that_o serve_v god_n and_o he_o that_o serve_v he_o not_o mal._n 3.18_o we_o must_v not_o be_v like_o the_o miserable_a ungodly_a preacher_n that_o they_o dare_v not_o awaken_v the_o conscience_n of_o other_o lest_o they_o shall_v awaken_v and_o affright_v their_o own_o and_o therefore_o be_v ready_a to_o scorn_v at_o all_o distinguish_a preacher_n and_o to_o take_v the_o discovery_n of_o regeneration_n to_o be_v but_o the_o boast_n of_o hypocrisy_n as_o if_o he_o that_o will_v differ_v from_o the_o most_o or_o do_v pretend_v to_o the_o special_a privilege_n of_o the_o saint_n do_v but_o as_o the_o pharisee_v thank_v god_n that_o he_o be_v not_o like_o other_o man_n or_o say_v stand_v by_o i_o be_o more_o holy_a than_o thou_o and_o if_o these_o preacher_n can_v prove_v that_o all_o man_n shall_v be_v save_v that_o will_v but_o say_v that_o they_o be_v christian_n they_o may_v then_o have_v hope_n of_o be_v save_v
