be_v that_o they_o have_v so_o sin_v unpardonable_o yet_o in_o as_o much_o as_o it_o be_v the_o sin_n that_o border_n next_o upon_o the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n it_o much_o greaten_v sin_n to_o a_o poor_a soul_n under_o the_o sense_n of_o it_o such_o a_o sinner_n be_v say_v to_o reproach_v the_o lord_n numb_a 15.30_o 31._o therefore_o to_o he_o that_o know_v to_o do_v good_a and_o hate_v it_o 13._o last_o this_o consideration_n also_o greaten_v sin_n in_o as_o much_o as_o a_o poor_a creature_n have_v draw_v and_o tempt_v other_o to_o sin_n with_o he_o special_o such_o as_o example_n but_o encouragement_n and_o persuasion_n that_o may_v be_v now_o in_o hell_n for_o such_o sin_n or_o be_v under_o a_o state_n of_o impenitency_n and_o harden_v by_o i_o oh_o this_o be_v a_o abase_v consideration_n to_o a_o poor_a convince_v humble_a sinner_n when_o god_n smite_v his_o heart_n with_o it_o use_v 1_o before_o we_o go_v further_o let_v we_o labour_n to_o apply_v this_o to_o god_n and_o now_o what_o can_v i_o challenge_v at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n what_o belong_v to_o i_o but_o wrath_n great_a wrath_n everlasting_a wrath_n infinite_a wrath_n if_o one_o sin_n deserve_v a_o thousand_o hell_n what_o do_v innumerable_a transgression_n do_v if_o mercy_n be_v not_o infinite_a how_o shall_v i_o look_v up_o to_o god_n or_o how_o shall_v god_n look_v down_o upon_o i_o oh_o i_o say_v let_v your_o conscience_n answer_v have_v it_o be_v thus_o in_o some_o good_a and_o real_a measure_n though_o not_o so_o deep_a as_o your_o soul_n desire_v i_o know_v there_o be_v degree_n of_o adam_n be_v natural_o apt_a to_o rest_v upon_o the_o law_n and_o their_o own_o do_n and_o to_o hope_v for_o peace_n by_o it_o 1._o every_o natural_a man_n have_v something_o of_o the_o remain_v of_o the_o law_n which_o god_n at_o first_o write_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o our_o common_a father_n adam_n rom._n 2.14_o 15._o which_o being_n a_o little_a draw_v forth_o by_o the_o letter_n of_o he_o think_v where_o he_o fail_v he_o hope_v to_o make_v up_o any_o breach_n that_o sin_n have_v make_v between_o god_n and_o his_o soul_n and_o thus_o he_o be_v still_o upon_o the_o old_a covenant_n under_o the_o law_n 3._o a_o sinner_n be_v more_o apt_a to_o keep_v to_o the_o law_n then_o go_v to_o christ_n from_o a_o secret_a pride_n of_o heart_n he_o will_v not_o be_v find_v at_o a_o total_a that_o most_o soul_n stick_v in_o the_o come_n off_o their_o own_o bottom_n to_o be_v justify_v in_o jesus_n christ_n in_o a_o word_n man_n have_v rather_o do_v any_o thing_n then_o come_v a_o poor_a destitute_a sinner_n to_o jesus_n christ_n for_o all_o 4._o because_o it_o be_v not_o suitable_a to_o the_o light_n of_o natural_a reason_n that_o a_o soul_n shall_v satisfy_v god_n or_o become_v righteous_a any_o other_o way_n then_o by_o his_o own_o endeavour_n to_o be_v righteous_a in_o another_o be_v of_o divine_a revelation_n which_o till_o a_o soul_n have_v he_o can_v let_v go_v the_o principle_n of_o self-justification_n the_o next_o thing_n to_o be_v consider_v will_v be_v this_o if_o all_o man_n be_v under_o the_o law_n and_o the_o curse_n of_o it_o under_o the_o guilt_n of_o the_o whole_a law_n without_o all_o excuse_n before_o god_n under_o a_o impossibility_n of_o attain_v righteousness_n or_o acceptance_n with_o god_n by_o the_o best_a keep_v of_o the_o law_n and_o yet_o a_o natural_a and_o strong_a aptitude_n to_o rest_v upon_o the_o law_n and_o that_o a_o soul_n may_v reform_v and_o take_v up_o be_v strict_a in_o obedience_n and_o yet_o still_o be_v under_o the_o law_n how_o then_o may_v a_o soul_n know_v whether_o in_o the_o way_n of_o his_o obedience_n he_o be_v yet_o under_o the_o law_n and_o not_o under_o grace_n some_o discovery_n i_o shall_v lay_v down_o at_o present_a reserve_v a_o full_a discussion_n of_o this_o and_o by_o the_o way_n know_v and_o consider_v that_o though_o thou_o be_v under_o the_o profession_n of_o the_o name_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o pretend_v salvation_n by_o he_o yet_o practical_o and_o real_o thou_o may_v be_v still_o under_o the_o law_n 1._o if_o thou_o have_v never_o be_v convince_v of_o this_o close_a evil_n in_o thy_o heart_n of_o rest_v on_o thy_o pray_n and_o repent_v and_o endeavour_v to_o keep_v the_o law_n as_o well_o as_o thou_o can_v i_o say_v if_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o convince_v thou_o of_o it_o and_o of_o the_o great_a danger_n of_o it_o and_o so_o humble_v thou_o and_o bring_v thou_o off_o it_o thou_o be_v certain_o under_o the_o law_n as_o yet_o 2._o if_o thou_o do_v not_o watch_v against_o this_o evil_a and_o do_v not_o find_v a_o great_a difficulty_n not_o to_o rest_v upon_o a_o performance_n of_o any_o duty_n to_o god_n thou_o do_v then_o certain_o rest_v upon_o it_o 3._o if_o thou_o be_v well_o satisfy_v that_o thou_o be_v keep_v from_o outward_a gross_a sin_n and_o the_o sin_n of_o thy_o nature_n be_v not_o thy_o great_a burden_n mourn_v under_o the_o weight_n of_o it_o than_o thou_o must_v know_v that_o thou_o be_v yet_o under_o the_o law_n 4._o if_o thou_o think_v god_n will_v accept_v of_o the_o will_n for_o the_o deed_n if_o thou_o do_v as_o well_o as_o thou_o can_v in_o every_o duty_n so_o as_o to_o accept_v thou_o thereby_o as_o if_o it_o have_v be_v do_v perfect_o this_o also_o bespeak_v thou_o under_o the_o law_n 5._o if_o thou_o can_v not_o experience_n how_o the_o lord_n by_o the_o light_n and_o work_n of_o his_o word_n and_o spirit_n have_v bring_v thou_o off_o thy_o legal_a foundation_n thou_o be_v build_v upon_o and_o thou_o be_v not_o most_o trouble_a about_o believe_v and_o do_v not_o find_v it_o the_o most_o difficult_a work_n of_o thy_o soul_n if_o no_o complaint_n to_o god_n of_o a_o unbelieve_a heart_n than_o thou_o be_v indeed_o a_o hypocrite_n and_o under_o the_o law_n 8._o if_o thou_o be_v not_o humble_v to_o god_n for_o the_o sinful_a mixture_n of_o thy_o duty_n the_o deadness_n distraction_n of_o they_o and_o so_o see_v thy_o acceptance_n can_v be_v in_o they_o but_o in_o jesus_n christ_n than_o thou_o rest_v in_o they_o 9_o if_o thou_o do_v not_o give_v up_o thyself_o to_o the_o leading_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o do_v not_o find_v that_o in_o the_o main_a of_o thy_o course_n thou_o be_v lead_v by_o the_o spirit_n than_o thou_o be_v under_o the_o law_n gal._n 3.18_o but_o if_o you_o be_v lead_v by_o the_o spirit_n you_o be_v not_o under_o the_o law_n 10._o if_o thou_o be_v not_o trouble_v about_o thy_o inward_a growth_n in_o mortification_n of_o all_o sin_n and_o more_o holy_a duty_n but_o not_o in_o inward_a holiness_n 11._o if_o thy_o care_n be_v not_o to_o live_v in_o the_o sense_n of_o thy_o justification_n by_o grace_n through_o jesus_n christ_n and_o to_o preserve_v the_o light_n and_o peace_n of_o a_o justify_v state_n which_o thou_o have_v be_v call_v to_o by_o grace_n then_o thou_o live_v in_o self-justification_n 12._o if_o thy_o great_a care_n be_v not_o if_o thou_o find_v it_o not_o thy_o great_a difficulty_n to_o be_v keep_v a_o poor_a empty_a creature_n in_o thyself_o and_o live_v in_o the_o fullness_n of_o christ_n if_o self-fulnesse_n self-exaltation_n be_v not_o the_o great_a evil_n thou_o watch_v against_o at_o least_o in_o some_o measure_n thou_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o root_n of_o they_o than_o thou_o be_v yet_o under_o all_o i_o have_v be_v prove_v the_o law_n guilt_n and_o a_o curse_n and_o all_o thy_o duty_n and_o do_n as_o i_o have_v show_v abhor_v of_o god_n examine_v thy_o heart_n by_o these_o particular_n over_o and_o over_o and_o if_o by_o these_o thou_o can_v not_o make_v out_o that_o thou_o have_v be_v through_o rich_a grace_n bring_v off_o from_o thy_o own_o foundation_n upon_o the_o law_n and_o so_o come_v with_o much_o difficulty_n to_o the_o gospel-grace_n and_o righteousness_n by_o jesus_n christ_n
and_o that_o if_o thou_o have_v be_v let_v alone_o in_o peace_n in_o thy_o former_a state_n thou_o have_v be_v certain_o damn_v sure_o thou_o be_v then_o as_o yet_o void_a of_o any_o interest_n in_o the_o gospel_n save_v righteousness_n thy_o pretend_a faith_n and_o hope_v and_o duty_n and_o work_n and_o conscience_n all_o be_v in_o vain_a now_o the_o soul_n that_o have_v the_o bless_a experience_n of_o all_o these_o and_o can_v say_v i_o have_v through_o infinite_a mercy_n be_v bring_v off_o my_o own_o foundation_n &_o i_o have_v find_v the_o difficulty_n of_o it_o i_o find_v my_o grace_n spirit_n heaven_n be_v thou_o have_v now_o lay_v open_a the_o sinner_n as_o under_o the_o law_n excuseless_a guilty_a and_o under_o condemnation_n under_o a_o impossibility_n of_o obtain_v righteousness_n and_o acceptance_n with_o god_n by_o the_o best_a endeavour_n to_o keep_v the_o law_n i_o will_v now_o set_v upon_o the_o open_n the_o gospel-righteousnesse_n by_o jesus_n christ_n be_v trouble_v for_o sin_n and_o they_o have_v make_v one_o shift_n or_o other_o to_o quiet_v themselves_o it_o may_v be_v leave_v their_o sin_n and_o do_v a_o little_a something_o more_o but_o
