there_o not_o any_o necessity_n that_o the_o veiny_n artery_n shall_v have_v so_o many_o obstacle_n to_o retain_v the_o impetuosity_n of_o the_o blood_n it_o carry_v in_o regard_n it_o must_v needs_o be_v deduce_v hence_o which_o may_v imply_v my_o not_o be_v of_o opinion_n that_o the_o air_n respire_v which_o be_v all_o full_a of_o these_o spirituous_a part_n exhale_v by_o all_o body_n do_v not_o furnish_v the_o vital_a spirit_n with_o some_o portion_n of_o themselves_o which_o
be_v mix_v therewith_o pass_n and_o insinuate_v itself_o into_o the_o heart_n and_o artery_n through_o the_o pore_n of_o the_o vessel_n hence_o it_o come_v that_o animal_n be_v sensible_a of_o the_o quality_n of_o the_o air_n which_o they_o respire_v and_o hypocrates_n affirm_v that_o the_o most_o sudden_a nourishment_n be_v wrought_v by_o odour_n but_o this_o be_v a_o thing_n happen_v by_o chance_n and_o be_v not_o to_o be_v admit_v into_o the_o design_n of_o nature_n and_o as_o to_o the_o cool_a or_o refreshment_n which_o be_v cause_v by_o the_o air_n it_o be_v not_o intend_v to_o moderate_v the_o excess_n of_o the_o heat_n but_o for_o the_o reason_n give_v by_o we_o before_o which_o be_v common_a to_o fire_n and_o the_o spirit_n for_o the_o coldness_n of_o the_o air_n condense_v the_o exhalation_n which_o shall_v be_v inflame_v it_o gather_v they_o together_o and_o hinder_v their_o rarefaction_n and_o dispersion_n and_o therefore_o when_o it_o be_v very_o cold_a the_o fire_n be_v the_o more_o violent_a and_o scorch_a in_o regard_n the_o matter_n of_o the_o flame_n suffer_v a_o great_a contraction_n and_o the_o light_n of_o the_o sun_n diminish_v the_o heat_n of_o the_o fire_n in_o regard_n it_o rarefy_v and_o disperse_v the_o exhalation_n which_o feed_v it_o not_o but_o that_o the_o air_n do_v moderate_v the_o heat_n of_o the_o heart_n when_o it_o be_v violent_a but_o that_o be_v not_o the_o main_a end_n at_o which_o nature_n aim_v it_o be_v only_o a_o slender_a service_n and_o convenience_n which_o she_o derive_v by_o the_o by_o from_o her_o principal_a design_n but_o however_o it_o be_v this_o be_v certain_a that_o after_o the_o blood_n which_o come_v out_o of_o the_o right_a ventricle_n have_v traverse_v the_o lung_n it_o be_v discharge_v into_o the_o left_a where_o it_o may_v be_v say_v it_o be_v return_v into_o the_o furnace_n and_o be_v stir_v and_o agitate_a afresh_o and_o where_o it_o be_v more_o subtle_a part_n be_v so_o refine_v that_o they_o acquire_v all_o the_o disposition_n necessary_a to_o spirit_n to_o make_v they_o vital_a and_o then_o they_o be_v endue_v with_o the_o form_n and_o virtue_n thereof_o and_o assume_v the_o place_n and_o function_n of_o those_o which_o have_v be_v distribute_v to_o the_o part_n art_n 5._o why_o the_o heart_n move_v from_o what_o have_v be_v deliver_v it_o may_v be_v infer_v that_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o heart_n serve_v for_o the_o generation_n of_o spirit_n but_o that_o that_o shall_v be_v the_o principal_a motive_n which_o oblige_v nature_n to_o give_v it_o that_o motion_n be_v what_o can_v be_v easy_o affirm_v for_o in_o a_o word_n all_o animal_n have_v those_o sort_n of_o spirit_n but_o all_o have_v not_o that_o motion_n so_o that_o this_o may_v be_v stand_v upon_o that_o it_o be_v not_o absolute_o necessary_a to_o their_o generation_n for_o my_o part_n i_o be_o of_o opinion_n that_o in_o this_o nature_n have_v a_o great_a regard_n to_o the_o conservation_n of_o the_o spirit_n then_o to_o their_o production_n for_o whereas_o ching_n be_v conserve_v by_o that_o which_o be_v conformable_a and_o natural_a thereto_o and_o that_o motion_n be_v natural_a to_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v of_o a_o fiery_a nature_n and_o proportion_v to_o the_o element_n of_o the_o star_n as_o aristotle_n speak_v it_o be_v according_o requisite_a that_o they_o shall_v be_v in_o perpetual_a motion_n as_o those_o body_n be_v and_o in_o effect_n we_o can_v stop_v the_o motion_n of_o fire_n without_o quench_v it_o and_o all_o those_o thing_n which_o hinder_v the_o spirit_n from_o move_v as_o narcotick_n and_o fullness_n deprave_v they_o and_o destroy_v the_o animal_n it_o therefore_o concern_v the_o providence_n of_o nature_n to_o find_v out_o some_o artifice_n whereby_o the_o vital_a spirit_n shall_v be_v continual_o stir_v to_o the_o end_n they_o may_v be_v conserve_v by_o that_o which_o be_v most_o proper_a and_o natural_a to_o they_o and_o there_o can_v not_o be_v a_o more_o commodious_a way_n find_v than_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o artery_n which_o ever_o and_o anon_o excite_v and_o awaken_v the_o spirit_n which_o be_v be_v neither_o so_o sensible_a nor_o so_o necessary_a in_o regard_n the_o humour_n there_o be_v more_o subtle_a and_o for_o the_o most_o part_n be_v only_a serosity_n which_o be_v in_o a_o more_o easy_a subjection_n to_o the_o spirit_n it_o be_v therefore_o the_o principal_a intention_n of_o nature_n to_o bestow_v motion_n on_o the_o heart_n in_o order_n to_o the_o conservation_n of_o the_o spirit_n yet_o with_o this_o precaution_n that_o it_o hinder_v not_o but_o that_o she_o may_v employ_v it_o to_o other_o use_n for_o as_o a_o frugal_a and_o provident_a housewife_n she_o make_v that_o the_o blood_n into_o the_o part_n but_o for_o the_o conveyance_n of_o the_o blood_n into_o the_o several_a part_n there_o be_v not_o any_o philosopher_n that_o have_v make_v it_o the_o employment_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o it_o be_v general_o attribute_v by_o they_o either_o to_o the_o impulsion_n which_o it_o receive_v from_o the_o beat_n of_o the_o heart_n or_o to_o some_o attractive_a virtue_n which_o draw_v it_o forth_o into_o every_o part_n it_o be_v therefore_o requisite_a we_o make_v it_o appear_v that_o these_o opinion_n can_v be_v maintain_v and_o that_o it_o be_v the_o proper_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o dispose_v it_o into_o the_o vein_n for_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n that_o it_o shall_v be_v either_o force_v out_o or_o attract_v or_o convey_v so_o that_o when_o it_o shall_v have_v be_v show_v that_o there_o be_v not_o any_o thing_n whereby_o it_o be_v either_o force_v out_o or_o attract_v it_o will_v follow_v that_o there_o must_v be_v something_o to_o convey_v it_o and_o that_o only_o the_o spirit_n can_v be_v capable_a of_o the_o employment_n most_o of_o those_o who_o maintain_v the_o circulation_n of_o the_o blood_n do_v not_o admit_v of_o then_o as_o the_o patron_n of_o this_o opinion_n will_v have_v it_o that_o the_o heart_n by_o a_o certain_a compression_n or_o contraction_n of_o itself_o drive_v out_o into_o the_o artery_n the_o blood_n which_o it_o have_v receive_v into_o its_o ventricle_n and_o that_o by_o the_o violence_n of_o that_o motion_n it_o force_v it_o even_o to_o their_o extremity_n so_o to_o make_v its_o passage_n into_o the_o small_a vein_n which_o be_v near_o they_o and_o thence_o into_o the_o hollow_a vein_n and_o at_o last_o to_o the_o heart_n whence_o it_o afterward_o pass_v back_o again_o into_o
