place_n go_v unto_o the_o house_n shop_n market_n counsel_n court_n consistory_n church_n or_o any_o place_n else_o and_o if_o it_o be_v full_a of_o man_n you_o shall_v find_v it_o to_o be_v full_a of_o sin_n also_o but_o where_o shall_v you_o find_v the_o holy_a complaint_n and_o outcry_n of_o paul_n against_o sin_n where_o shall_v you_o find_v those_o that_o from_o their_o heart_n hold_v themselves_o to_o be_v miserable_a because_o they_o be_v sinful_a and_o make_v the_o sorrow_n for_o their_o sin_n to_o exceed_v all_o their_o other_o sorrow_n as_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n be_v wont_a to_o do_v nay_o be_v there_o not_o multitude_n to_o be_v find_v which_o harden_v themselves_o in_o sin_n and_o be_v so_o far_o from_o any_o remorse_n of_o conscience_n for_o sin_n that_o they_o rejoice_v and_o take_v pleasure_n in_o it_o and_o be_v at_o no_o time_n so_o much_o grieve_v as_o when_o they_o can_v bring_v their_o sinful_a intent_n to_o effect_v not_o make_v a_o meal_n but_o it_o must_v be_v with_o sin_n to_o who_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o they_o eat_v and_o drink_v but_o they_o must_v eat_v and_o drink_v sinful_o or_o else_o they_o can_v be_v merry_a there_o be_v also_o those_o that_o plough_n iniquity_n hosea_n 10.13_o that_o be_v inventor_n of_o wicked_a thing_n rom._n 1.30_o worker_n of_o unrighteousness_n practitioner_n in_o sin_n who_o will_n and_o understanding_n be_v only_o employ_v to_o plot_n and_o devise_v iniquity_n to_o cover_v extenuate_v and_o defend_v it_o with_o subtle_a argument_n or_o so_o cunning_o and_o clean_o to_o carry_v iniquity_n pro._n 4.16_o there_o be_v also_o those_o that_o build_v their_o house_n and_o hold_v they_o open_v in_o sin_n as_o those_o wicked_a and_o filthy_a alehouse_n and_o worse_o &_o yet_o all_o these_o will_v give_v themselves_o out_o for_o true_a christian_n and_o appropriate_v unto_o themselves_o the_o comfort_n and_o prerogative_n of_o the_o child_n of_o god_n when_o remain_v as_o they_o be_v they_o have_v no_o part_n in_o they_o which_o be_v a_o thing_n altogether_o lamentable_a and_o miserable_a sin_n three_o this_o serve_v to_o terrify_v and_o affright_v all_o abstinate_a and_o hard_o heart_a man_n which_o drink_v in_o iniquity_n like_o water_n and_o can_v without_o any_o sorrow_n or_o remorse_n of_o conscience_n commit_v and_o digest_v the_o most_o gross_a and_o abominable_a sin_n which_o can_v lie_v swear_v deceive_v drink_v drink_v profane_a the_o sabbath_n or_o do_v any_o wicked_a thing_n else_o and_o yet_o pass_v away_o their_o time_n in_o joy_n and_o mirth_n yea_o and_o boast_v of_o their_o strong_a faith_n and_o that_o they_o be_v sure_a of_o the_o pardon_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o the_o salvation_n of_o their_o soul_n but_o the_o faith_n of_o these_o man_n be_v mad_a and_o foolish_a it_o be_v no_o apostolical_a faith_n it_o be_v not_o of_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o apostle_n paul_n faith_n who_o be_v upon_o good_a ground_n assure_v that_o his_o sin_n be_v forgive_v yet_o be_v trouble_v and_o grieve_v with_o they_o even_o as_o a_o maid_n who_o have_v slip_v into_o folly_n and_o now_o live_v chaste_o mourn_v and_o lament_v all_o her_o life_n long_o because_o of_o the_o scandal_n &_o reproach_n where_o with_o she_o have_v stein_v herself_o although_o she_o be_v forgive_v of_o her_o friend_n and_o companion_n and_o as_o well_o respect_v and_o esteem_v by_o they_o as_o she_o be_v in_o time_n past_a but_o the_o peace_n and_o security_n of_o those_o idle_a and_o vain_a boaster_n arise_v not_o from_o the_o strength_n of_o their_o faith_n but_o only_o from_o this_o that_o they_o have_v a_o dead_a and_o benumb_a conscience_n and_o be_v still_o in_o their_o natural_a state_n where_o sin_n be_v as_o in_o its_o proper_a element_n be_v not_o heavy_a and_o grievous_a but_o look_v before_o thou_o thou_o wretched_a man_n behold_v there_o shall_v a_o judgement_n come_v and_o then_o thou_o shall_v know_v that_o this_o thy_o idle_a joy_n and_o mirth_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o seed_n of_o thy_o eternal_a pain_n and_o torment_n unless_o thou_o do_v in_o time_n turn_v and_o repent_v for_o it_o be_v most_o they_o complain_v and_o cry_v out_o from_o their_o heart_n with_o the_o apostle_n o_o miserable_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n oh_o my_o belove_a brethren_n and_o sister_n be_v not_o dismay_v because_o you_o find_v sin_n to_o be_v so_o heavy_a a_o burden_n behold_v it_o must_v be_v so_o if_o you_o will_v be_v ease_v of_o it_o the_o more_o need_n to_o fear_v hell_n yea_o heaven_n be_v their_o due_n notwithstanding_o they_o be_v convince_v in_o conscience_n that_o they_o be_v sinful_a yet_o they_o know_v no_o other_o sin_n that_o they_o have_v than_o some_o small_a sin_n which_o they_o hold_v to_o be_v venial_a and_o those_o they_o think_v be_v so_o few_o in_o number_n that_o they_o need_v not_o to_o make_v any_o doubt_n of_o their_o body_n through_o the_o spirit_n man_n three_o let_v this_o serve_v to_o exhort_v all_o the_o people_n of_o god_n to_o put_v far_o from_o they_o this_o opinion_n and_o conceit_n of_o worldly_a and_o carnal_a man_n let_v we_o give_v out_o self_n no_o rest_n till_o we_o find_v that_o we_o be_v renew_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o our_o mind_n and_o that_o we_o have_v some_o power_n through_o the_o spirit_n do_v notwithstanding_o feel_v in_o themselves_o the_o prick_v of_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o continual_a buffet_n and_o assault_n of_o this_o body_n of_o sin_n behold_v my_o belove_a and_o do_v not_o study_v to_o obey_v and_o please_v they_o but_o seek_v by_o the_o spirit_n to_o mortify_v and_o kill_v they_o know_v i_o say_v that_o thou_o be_v a_o child_n of_o god_n continue_v therefore_o in_o thy_o spiritual_a combat_n fight_v valiant_o and_o put_v on_o all_o the_o christian_a armour_n of_o proof_n and_o let_v this_o serve_v to_o make_v thou_o long_o and_o desire_v to_o be_v deliver_v from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n and_o to_o be_v with_o christ_n and_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n be_v humble_v in_o thyself_o and_o patient_a towards_o thy_o brother_n out_o of_o the_o his_o salvation_n how_o come_v it_o then_o that_o he_o call_v himself_o miserable_a without_o doubt_v the_o apostle_n speak_v here_o in_o good_a earnest_n answ_n for_o he_o be_v then_o in_o a_o hot_a skirmish_n and_o have_v little_a time_n or_o cause_n to_o dally_v or_o lest_o yea_o he_o speak_v not_o only_o in_o earnest_n but_o also_o upon_o good_a ground_n for_o the_o other_o affliction_n account_v himself_o to_o be_v miserable_a for_o this_o body_n of_o death_n consider_v in_o itself_o make_v a_o man_n true_o wretched_a and_o miserable_a the_o which_o may_v sufficient_o be_v gather_v out_o of_o the_o first_o part_n of_o our_o text_n whereunto_o we_o will_v brief_o add_v follow_v that_o the_o body_n of_o death_n in_o respect_n of_o which_o the_o apostle_n so_o earnest_o complain_v have_v these_o miserable_a and_o curse_a effect_n which_o follow_v first_o it_o deface_v and_o deprave_v the_o image_n of_o god_n us._n the_o which_o be_v a_o thing_n altogether_o lamentable_a and_o miserable_a if_o a_o man_n do_v break_v a_o leg_n or_o a_o arm_n how_o do_v he_o cry_v out_o and_o complain_v of_o his_o misery_n what_o cause_n then_o be_v there_o of_o mourning_n and_o complaint_n when_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n be_v break_v to_o piece_n and_o make_v unfit_a for_o every_o good_a use_n when_o the_o most_o noble_a and_o eminent_a of_o man_n be_v â—â—terly_o deprave_a and_o corrupt_v we_o see_v that_o in_o a_o man_n body_n when_o any_o member_n be_v wound_v or_o afflict_v with_o any_o grief_n the_o more_o worthy_a and_o excellent_a that_o member_n be_v the_o great_a be_v both_o the_o grief_n and_o danger_n of_o the_o sore_a prick_v a_o man_n in_o the_o arm_n or_o the_o leg_n with_o the_o point_n of_o a_o needle_n and_o he_o will_v both_o feel_v it_o &_o complain_v of_o it_o but_o prick_v he_o in_o the_o apple_n of_o his_o eye_n and_o that_o shall_v pierce_v he_o to_o the_o heart_n and_o make_v he_o cry_v out_o if_o it_o be_v so_o with_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o body_n how_o great_a be_v the_o pain_n and_o grief_n when_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o mind_n be_v not_o only_o prick_v but_o whole_o put_v out_o when_o the_o most_o noble_a and_o precious_a soul_n be_v wound_v and_o that_o to_o death_n this_o be_v it_o that_o make_v the_o apostle_n cry_v out_o o_o miserable_a man_n second_o man_n thus_o deprave_a in_o soul_n by_o original_a corruption_n disobedience_n be_v by_o nature_n a_o child_n of_o disobedience_n and_o a_o child_n of_o wrath_n ephes_n 2.2.2_o that_o be_v unfit_a for_o the_o service_n of_o god_n &_o liable_a to_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n both_o which_o be_v misery_n beyond_o comparison_n first_o he_o can_v do_v the_o work_n of_o god_n for_o he_o be_v as_o a_o break_a tooth_n which_o serve_v for_o no_o use_n at_o all_o and_o as_o a_o break_a arm_n wherewith_o a_o man_n can_v work_v as_o soon_o as_o a_o man_n begin_v to_o frame_v himself_o unto_o the_o service_n of_o god_n he_o find_v his_o corruption_n ever_o to_o be_v in_o his_o way_n so_o that_o the_o good_a that_o he_o willing_o will_v do_v he_o can_v do_v as_o he_o will_v with_o this_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n great_o move_v howsoever_o the_o child_n of_o the_o world_n which_o put_v not_o forth_o their_o strength_n to_o the_o service_n of_o god_n feel_v no_o inconvenience_n herein_o even_o as_o one_o that_o have_v a_o break_a leg_n and_o lie_v still_o feel_v not_o the_o smart_n thereof_o so_o much_o as_o he_o that_o be_v ever_o assay_v to_o walk_v and_o therefore_o they_o complain_v not_o nevertheless_o this_o exceed_o grieve_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n and_o they_o account_v it_o as_o a_o great_a misery_n that_o they_o can_v no_o better_o perform_v their_o duty_n to_o god_n second_o the_o natural_a man_n be_v liable_a to_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n deut._n 27.26_o he_o that_o destroy_v the_o image_n of_o god_n he_o will_v god_n destroy_v this_o be_v it_o that_o do_v cast_v many_o of_o the_o angel_n out_o of_o heaven_n into_o hell_n this_o drove_n adam_n out_o of_o paradise_n and_o make_v all_o the_o son_n of_o man_n subject_a unto_o eternal_a death_n and_o from_o hence_o do_v arise_v all_o the_o plague_n and_o punishment_n which_o be_v inflict_v upon_o man_n now_o as_o a_o man_n have_v commit_v murder_n &_o be_v come_v to_o himself_o account_v himself_o to_o be_v miserable_a in_o regard_n of_o the_o offence_n which_o make_v he_o worthy_a of_o death_n although_o he_o be_v neither_o apprehend_v nor_o condemn_v to_o die_v even_o so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o child_n of_o god_n who_o notwithstanding_o that_o they_o be_v deliver_v as_o the_o apostle_n be_v from_o the_o fear_n of_o death_n through_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n heb._n 2.15_o yet_o because_o they_o know_v that_o their_o sinfulness_n cause_v god_n to_o hide_v his_o cheerful_a countenance_n from_o they_o isaiah_n 59.2_o which_o be_v unto_o they_o as_o bitter_a as_o death_n itself_o therefore_o they_o cry_v out_o unfeigned_o because_o of_o this_o body_n of_o death_n o_o miserable_a man_n now_o in_o that_o the_o apostle_n himself_o which_o have_v already_o in_o a_o great_a measure_n mortify_v and_o subdue_v this_o body_n of_o death_n 1_o cor._n 9.27_o yet_o nevertheless_o so_o pitiful_o complain_v against_o it_o whereas_o there_o be_v many_o thousand_o that_o go_v frolikely_a along_o be_v never_o touch_v much_o less_o trouble_v therewith_o yet_o be_v as_o it_o be_v wrap_v and_o plunge_v over_o head_n and_o care_n in_o sin_n and_o iniquity_n from_o thence_o follow_v this_o doctrine_n corruption_n the_o more_o sanctify_a and_o holy_a that_o a_o man_n be_v the_o more_o sensible_a be_v he_o of_o his_o corruption_n and_o the_o more_o troublesome_a be_v they_o unto_o he_o this_o be_v manifest_a in_o that_o the_o apostle_n that_o be_v none_o of_o bitter_a affliction_n and_o persecution_n yet_o none_o of_o they_o make_v he_o cry_v out_o and_o complain_v so_o mournful_o as_o he_o do_v here_o because_o of_o his_o natural_a corruption_n which_o he_o see_v to_o be_v the_o mother_n of_o all_o misery_n thus_o david_n when_o through_o his_o folly_n he_o have_v wound_v himself_o with_o sin_n go_v weep_v unto_o the_o bosom_n of_o his_o heavenly_a father_n and_o cry_v out_o with_o a_o loud_a voice_n heale_n my_o soul_n o_o lord_n for_o against_o thou_o have_v i_o sin_v but_o the_o child_n of_o the_o world_n in_o the_o same_o case_n wipe_v their_o mouth_n with_o the_o harlot_n and_o ask_v what_o cuill_n they_o have_v do_v now_o the_o reason_n for_o which_o the_o regenerate_a and_o true_a child_n of_o god_n be_v so_o grieve_v with_o sin_n whereas_o the_o child_n of_o the_o world_n be_v never_o touch_v much_o less_o trouble_v therewith_o be_v chief_o these_o first_o sin_n the_o regenerate_a and_o true_a child_n of_o god_n have_v receive_v spiritual_a life_n in_o they_o whereby_o they_o have_v a_o quick_a and_o feel_a conscience_n which_o the_o lord_n give_v they_o to_o keep_v they_o from_o sin_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a side_n the_o natural_a man_n be_v dead_a in_o sin_n ephes_n 2.1_o and_o have_v a_o sear_a conscience_n 1_o tim._n 4._o which_o be_v utter_o past_a feel_n as_o it_o be_v say_v their_o heart_n be_v wax_v fat_a that_o they_o can_v understand_v mat._n 13.15_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o child_n of_o the_o world_n be_v dead_a in_o sin_n and_o dead_a in_o conscience_n can_v so_o easy_o digest_v all_o manner_n of_o sin_n and_o make_v so_o light_a of_o they_o be_v accustom_v never_o to_o lament_v for_o the_o iniquity_n &_o offence_n of_o their_o sin_n but_o for_o some_o outward_a inconvenience_n which_o they_o have_v procure_v unto_o themselves_o in_o the_o world_n by_o their_o sin_n as_o loss_n reproach_n or_o the_o like_a but_o the_o regenerate_a be_v live_v in_o soul_n and_o quick_a in_o conscience_n be_v sensible_a of_o the_o least_o prick_n of_o sin_n the_o smart_n whereof_o cause_v they_o to_o cry_v out_o o_o miserable_a etc._n etc._n second_o sin_n the_o regenerate_a have_v their_o eye_n open_a to_o see_v the_o ugliness_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o hateful_a deformity_n of_o this_o body_n of_o death_n they_o see_v that_o it_o deface_v the_o image_n of_o god_n in_o man_n make_v he_o unfit_a for_o the_o service_n of_o god_n and_o liable_a to_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n they_o see_v that_o it_o dishonour_v god_n and_o provoke_v he_o to_o anger_n scandalize_v the_o church_n grieve_v the_o godly_a and_o rejoice_v the_o wicked_a and_o cause_v the_o name_n of_o god_n to_o be_v blaspheme_v and_o his_o gospel_n to_o be_v disgrace_v they_o see_v also_o that_o hell_n and_o eternal_a damnation_n do_v hang_v at_o the_o tail_n of_o sin_n how_o sweet_a &_o please_v soever_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v all_o this_o do_v they_o see_v as_o a_o people_n that_o be_v near_o unto_o god_n who_o give_v great_a light_n unto_o all_o they_o that_o be_v about_o he_o they_o see_v also_o that_o it_o shut_v heaven_n and_o open_v hell_n increase_v the_o heat_n of_o hell-fire_n for_o the_o ungodly_a and_o hide_v the_o comfortable_a light_n of_o god_n countenance_n many_o time_n from_o his_o own_o child_n all_o this_o do_v the_o saint_n of_o god_n see_v which_o make_v they_o so_o lament_v and_o complain_v of_o sin_n but_o the_o child_n of_o the_o world_n because_o they_o neither_o see_v nor_o understand_v this_o be_v nothing_o trouble_v with_o sin_n notwithstanding_o they_o be_v from_o top_n to_o toe_n pollute_v therewith_o three_o the_o regenerate_a and_o true_a child_n of_o god_n do_v hate_v sin_n with_o a_o perfect_a hatred_n psalm_n 97.10_o where_o on_o the_o contrary_a side_n the_o unregenerate_a do_v love_v it_o as_o much_o yea_o they_o have_v their_o special_a belove_a sin_n job_n 20.12_o now_o we_o know_v it_o be_v a_o thing_n not_o a_o little_a grievous_a for_o a_o man_n to_o have_v one_o who_o he_o hate_v always_o to_o be_v present_a with_o he_o in_o his_o house_n at_o his_o table_n at_o his_o fire_n in_o his_o bed_n and_o every_o where_o else_o under_o his_o nose_n so_o it_o grieve_v the_o child_n of_o god_n not_o a_o little_a that_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o death_n be_v in_o they_o which_o they_o hate_v with_o all_o their_o heart_n and_o wish_v that_o it_o be_v drown_v in_o the_o bottom_n of_o the_o sea_n but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o the_o child_n of_o the_o world_n for_o they_o love_v sin_n or_o not_o hate_v it_o be_v nothing_o trouble_v therewith_o although_o they_o know_v it_o to_o be_v in_o they_o four_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n have_v learned_a to_o judge_v of_o sin_n according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o declare_v it_o to_o be_v the_o most_o odious_a and_o abominable_a thing_n that_o be_v deut._n 25.16_o and_o herein_o have_v they_o also_o learned_a to_o renounce_v their_o own_o understanding_n but_o natural_a man_n do_v judge_v of_o sin_n according_a to_o their_o own_o carnal_a conceit_n and_o good_a meaning_n and_o be_v by_o nature_n lover_n of_o sin_n they_o can_v nor_o will_v not_o understand_v that_o it_o be_v so_o hateful_a as_o true_o it_o be_v and_o therefore_o where_o they_o shall_v condemn_v themselves_o for_o sin_n they_o condemn_v the_o law_n as_o if_o it_o be_v too_o strict_a and_o judge_v too_o severe_o of_o sin_n last_o as_o no_o element_n in_o his_o proper_a place_n be_v heavy_a so_o sin_n in_o the_o natural_a man_n be_v in_o its_o right_a place_n be_v not_o grievous_a but_o it_o be_v otherwise_o with_o the_o child_n of_o god_n orno_fw-la now_o come_v we_o to_o the_o use_v that_o may_v be_v make_v of_o this_o that_o have_v be_v speak_v and_o the_o first_o shall_v be_v for_o examination_n and_o trial_n for_o by_o this_o doctrine_n may_v every_o man_n prove_v and_o try_v himself_o whether_o he_o be_v a_o child_n of_o god_n or_o not_o in_o which_o the_o most_o part_n of_o man_n be_v want_v suffer_v themselves_o to_o be_v deceive_v in_o the_o case_n of_o assurance_n of_o salvation_n but_o it_o must_v not_o be_v so_o for_o will_v a_o man_n be_v willing_a without_o proof_n and_o trial_n of_o himself_o to_o go_v along_o merry_o and_o laugh_v with_o a_o hope_n of_o inherit_v eternal_a life_n and_o at_o last_o through_o want_n of_o trial_n and_o examination_n find_v himself_o deceive_v in_o his_o expectation_n and_o be_v cast_v into_o eternal_a damnation_n without_o hope_n of_o ever_o be_v deliver_v very_o i_o think_v not_o therefore_o every_o one_o must_v take_v the_o pain_n to_o prove_v and_o examine_v himself_o now_o here_o be_v a_o infallible_a rule_n for_o proof_n and_o trial_n see_v how_o thou_o be_v mind_v concern_v sin_n be_v it_o so_o that_o when_o thou_o have_v thorough_o consider_v thy_o whole_a estate_n and_o condition_n and_o weigh_v in_o thy_o heart_n how_o every_o thing_n stand_v with_o thou_o thou_o find_v nothing_o that_o trouble_v and_o grieve_v thou_o so_o much_o as_o sin_n and_o can_v thou_o have_v all_o thing_n at_o will_n sit_v down_o with_o the_o apostle_n and_o mourn_v because_o of_o thy_o fin_n and_o cry_v out_o unfeigned_o o_o miserable_a man_n who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o wish_v above_o all_o thing_n to_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o to_o be_v free_v from_o the_o power_n thereof_o oh_o that_o be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o there_o be_v spiritual_a life_n in_o thou_o that_o thou_o have_v a_o spiritual_a eye_n open_a to_o see_v the_o thou_o thyself_o have_v displease_v the_o god_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n can_v thou_o rage_v and_o take_v on_o with_o thy_o servant_n for_o break_v a_o glass_n or_o a_o pot_n
