mercy_n and_o for_o a_o help_n to_o we_o put_v a_o natural_a affection_n into_o our_o heart_n which_o yet_o be_v to_o be_v guide_v by_o spiritual_a love_n that_o we_o be_v now_o to_o speak_v of_o so_o the_o next_o thing_n be_v to_o show_v what_o be_v this_o spiritual_a love_n this_o love_n of_o god_n this_o love_n of_o christ_n jesus_n heart_n and_o first_o we_o will_v show_v how_o it_o be_v wrought_v and_o withal_o what_o it_o be_v for_o you_o must_v know_v that_o every_o man_n by_o nature_n hate_v god_n by_o reason_n of_o that_o opposition_n and_o contrariety_n which_o be_v between_o god_n and_o every_o man_n by_o nature_n for_o all_o love_n come_v from_o similitude_n and_o agreeablenesse_n and_o therefore_o where_o there_o be_v two_o of_o a_o contrary_a disposition_n there_o must_v needs_o be_v hatred_n now_o the_o pure_a nature_n of_o god_n be_v contrary_a to_o we_o and_o therefore_o every_o man_n by_o nature_n hate_v god_n and_o therefore_o that_o love_n may_v be_v wrought_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n towards_o god_n this_o sinful_a nature_n of_o we_o must_v be_v break_v in_o piece_n and_o subdue_v and_o again_o it_o must_v be_v new_o mould_v and_o frame_v before_o that_o can_v ever_o be_v fit_a to_o love_v god_n therefore_o if_o you_o will_v know_v how_o this_o love_n of_o god_n be_v wrought_v in_o we_o it_o be_v do_v by_o these_o two_o thing_n first_o by_o break_v our_o nature_n in_o piece_n as_o it_o be_v that_o be_v by_o humiliation_n and_o by_o the_o law_n again_o by_o mould_v it_o anew_o which_o be_v do_v by_o faith_n and_o by_o the_o gospel_n for_o when_o we_o come_v and_o propound_v christ_n to_o man_n to_o be_v take_v and_o to_o be_v receive_v and_o love_v by_o they_o what_o be_v the_o answer_n we_o have_v from_o they_o most_o man_n either_o mind_n he_o not_o or_o regard_v not_o at_o all_o this_o invitation_n to_o come_v to_o christ_n but_o they_o deal_v with_o we_o as_o those_o that_o be_v invite_v to_o the_o marriage_n say_v the_o text_n they_o make_v light_a of_o it_o they_o care_v not_o for_o the_o invitation_n it_o be_v a_o thing_n they_o look_v not_o after_o or_o again_o if_o they_o do_v yet_o they_o mind_n they_o when_o the_o law_n be_v break_v that_o man_n eye_n may_v be_v open_v to_o see_v their_o sin_n then_o a_o man_n begin_v to_o look_v towards_o christ_n to_o look_v on_o he_o as_o the_o captive_a look_n on_o his_o redeemer_n as_o a_o condemn_a man_n look_v on_o he_o that_o bring_v he_o a_o pardon_n as_o a_o widow_n that_o be_v miserable_a and_o poor_a indebt_v and_o undo_v look_v upon_o her_o husband_n that_o will_v make_v her_o rich_a and_o honourable_a that_o will_v pay_v all_o her_o debt_n i_o say_v when_o a_o man_n heart_n be_v thus_o humble_v and_o break_v by_o the_o law_n by_o sound_a humiliation_n than_o he_o begin_v to_o look_v towards_o jesus_n christ._n but_o i_o say_v man_n do_v fail_v partly_o that_o they_o have_v no_o sense_n of_o their_o sin_n or_o else_o they_o have_v a_o sense_n of_o their_o sin_n but_o not_o enough_o to_o bring_v they_o home_o to_o christ_n for_o that_o be_v the_o fault_n of_o the_o second_o and_o three_o ground_n there_o be_v impression_n make_v in_o they_o that_o they_o prize_v christ_n but_o there_o be_v not_o so_o deep_a a_o preparation_n as_o to_o love_v christ_n indeed_o so_o as_o to_o prefer_v he_o above_o all_o thing_n so_o as_o to_o cleave_v to_o he_o so_o as_o they_o will_v let_v he_o go_v for_o nothing_o and_o therefore_o this_o be_v require_v that_o our_o nature_n be_v break_v all_o in_o piece_n that_o be_v that_o the_o humiliation_n be_v deep_a enough_o not_o a_o little_a light_a impression_n a_o little_a hang_v down_o of_o the_o head_n a_o little_a sense_n of_o sin_n but_o so_o far_o as_o it_o may_v be_v to_o purpose_n that_o he_o look_v to_o christ_n as_o to_o the_o great_a good_a in_o the_o world_n that_o he_o will_v rather_o undergo_v any_o thing_n than_o miss_v of_o he_o that_o he_o will_v rather_o gospel_n and_o by_o faith_n for_o when_o the_o heart_n be_v
thus_o prepare_v now_o let_v the_o gospel_n come_v and_o welcome_n now_o a_o man_n heart_n be_v fit_a to_o be_v wrought_v on_o why_o what_o do_v the_o gospel_n the_o gospel_n come_v and_o tell_v you_o that_o the_o lord_n jesus_n be_v willing_a to_o be_v your_o redeemer_n be_v willing_a to_o be_v your_o lord_n he_o be_v content_a to_o be_v you_o if_o you_o will_v take_v he_o you_o shall_v have_v he_o and_o all_o he_o now_o when_o a_o man_n heart_n be_v break_v you_o can_v bring_v he_o better_o news_n indeed_o till_o then_o you_o may_v go_v and_o preach_v the_o gospel_n long_o enough_o you_o faith_n whereby_o we_o cleave_v to_o the_o lord_n with_o a_o purpose_n of_o heart_n to_o serve_v he_o and_o to_o please_v he_o in_o all_o thing_n when_o these_o two_o thing_n be_v join_v that_o a_o a_o man_n receive_v christ_n by_o faith_n and_o from_o this_o faith_n this_o love_n issue_v whence_o this_o be_v special_o to_o be_v mark_v and_o it_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o much_o moment_n that_o to_o love_v the_o lord_n it_o be_v not_o only_o require_v that_o you_o be_v persuade_v that_o he_o be_v well_o affect_v to_o you_o that_o he_o be_v willing_a to_o receive_v you_o for_o that_o man_n may_v have_v which_o say_v that_o christ_n be_v merciful_a and_o ready_a to_o forgive_v and_o so_o they_o think_v but_o yet_o they_o love_v he_o not_o therefore_o i_o say_v it_o be_v not_o only_o require_v that_o you_o look_v on_o christ_n as_o upon_o one_o that_o be_v well_o affect_a and_o propitious_a to_o you_o but_o also_o that_o you_o look_v on_o he_o as_o one_o that_o be_v suitable_a second_o that_o christ_n be_v willing_a to_o forgive_v you_o and_o to_o receive_v you_o though_o it_o be_v weak_a it_o may_v be_v such_o as_o be_v a_o true_a faith_n and_o may_v beget_v love_n when_o a_o man_n look_v on_o any_o other_o man_n that_o he_o love_v if_o he_o see_v so_o much_o excellency_n in_o they_o as_o that_o he_o belong_v after_o they_o and_o desire_v they_o though_o he_o think_v there_o be_v a_o backwardness_n in_o they_o to_o love_v he_o yet_o if_o there_o be_v some_o probability_n that_o they_o be_v likely_a to_o love_v he_o he_o may_v come_v so_o far_o as_o to_o embrace_v they_o in_o his_o affection_n and_o have_v a_o desire_n to_o they_o though_o it_o be_v true_a as_o that_o persuasion_n be_v strong_a so_o their_o love_n be_v more_o near_o for_o faith_n and_o love_n grow_v together_o indeed_o if_o there_o be_v a_o utter_a averseness_n if_o there_o be_v enmity_n as_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o remove_v it_o than_o we_o can_v not_o love_v but_o hate_v even_o as_o cain_n and_o judas_n do_v but_o i_o say_v that_o be_v a_o thing_n you_o must_v especial_o mark_v that_o faith_n do_v not_o consist_v in_o be_v persuade_v that_o christ_n or_o god_n through_o christ_n be_v willing_a to_o forgive_v you_o your_o sin_n or_o to_o receive_v you_o to_o mercy_n but_o in_o this_o your_o judgement_n must_v be_v rectify_v that_o be_v to_o know_v that_o you_o be_v to_o look_v on_o christ_n as_o one_o that_o be_v suitable_a and_o agreeable_a to_o you_o as_o one_o to_o who_o you_o have_v a_o inward_a inclination_n as_o one_o that_o be_v fit_a for_o you_o this_o be_v the_o main_a thing_n the_o other_o easy_o follow_v to_o be_v persuade_v that_o he_o be_v willing_a to_o forgive_v we_o and_o that_o he_o be_v willing_a to_o love_v we_o therefore_o whereas_o it_o may_v be_v you_o have_v think_v that_o to_o believe_v that_o god_n be_v willing_a to_o forgive_v you_o your_o sin_n be_v faith_n i_o dare_v be_v bold_a to_o say_v it_o be_v not_o full_a faith_n you_o may_v have_v it_o and_o yet_o not_o saving_o believe_v you_o may_v have_v it_o and_o yet_o not_o be_v true_a believer_n this_o i_o make_v clear_a by_o this_o argument_n that_o which_o beget_v no_o love_n be_v not_o faith_n but_o you_o may_v be_v persuade_v that_o christ_n be_v willing_a to_o forgive_v you_o your_o sin_n and_o yet_o not_o love_v he_o as_o a_o prisoner_n may_v be_v persuade_v that_o the_o judge_n be_v willing_a to_o pardon_v he_o and_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o he_o may_v not_o love_v the_o judge_n for_o love_n as_o i_o tell_v you_o come_v from_o some_o suitableness_n some_o agreablenesse_n between_o the_o party_n that_o love_v and_o the_o party_n that_o be_v love_v again_o you_o shall_v find_v this_o by_o experience_n a_o man_n may_v be_v persuade_v that_o he_o be_v in_o a_o good_a estate_n that_o he_o shall_v be_v save_v and_o that_o his_o sin_n be_v forgive_v he_o and_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o he_o may_v be_v a_o unregenerate_a man_n he_o may_v be_v a_o man_n that_o have_v no_o life_n of_o grace_n in_o he_o i_o say_v we_o see_v oft_o in_o experience_n many_o man_n applaud_v themselves_o in_o their_o good_a persuasion_n and_o they_o die_v peaceable_o and_o quiet_o and_o all_o be_v well_o they_o think_v god_n have_v forgive_v they_o and_o yet_o we_o find_v there_o be_v no_o love_n in_o they_o nor_o no_o fruit_n of_o love_n again_o on_o the_o other_o side_n a_o man_n that_o have_v his_o heart_n break_v with_o the_o sense_n of_o his_o sin_n may_v hunger_n after_o righteousness_n and_o after_o christ_n he_o may_v long_o after_o the_o lord_n himself_o that_o he_o desire_v he_o more_o than_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n and_o yet_o there_o be_v but_o a_o weak_a persuasion_n that_o the_o lord_n will_v receive_v he_o and_o forgive_v he_o his_o sin_n i_o say_v this_o man_n may_v be_v a_o true_a believer_n though_o he_o be_v not_o yet_o so_o full_o persuade_v that_o christ_n will_v forgive_v he_o when_o the_o other_o be_v no_o true_a believer_n as_o i_o say_v to_o you_o before_o as_o when_o one_o love_n another_o man_n or_o woman_n if_o he_o look_v on_o he_o as_o one_o that_o be_v suitable_a to_o he_o if_o he_o think_v it_o be_v but_o by_o good_a probability_n and_o likelihood_n i_o shall_v obtain_v their_o love_n though_o i_o have_v not_o yet_o a_o full_a assurance_n of_o it_o i_o say_v there_o may_v be_v a_o affection_n of_o love_n and_o thence_o i_o confirm_v that_o which_o i_o say_v to_o you_o that_o faith_n that_o have_v be_v join_v with_o it_o be_v true_a and_o that_o faith_n that_o be_v disjoin_v from_o love_n be_v not_o true_a so_o i_o say_v such_o a_o disposition_n of_o heart_n as_o look_n on_o christ_n as_o one_o who_o he_o belong_v after_o he_o look_v on_o he_o as_o on_o a_o husband_n as_o one_o who_o he_o be_v willing_a to_o match_v with_o that_o he_o can_v say_v true_o this_o be_v the_o best_a husband_n for_o i_o in_o all_o the_o world_n though_o yet_o i_o have_v not_o woo_v he_o though_o yet_o i_o have_v not_o a_o full_a assurance_n of_o his_o affection_n to_o i_o as_o i_o will_v have_v i_o say_v this_o will_v certify_v your_o judgement_n and_o withal_o it_o will_v comfort_v you_o
of_o love_n and_o therefore_o the_o lord_n do_v with_o we_o as_o we_o do_v with_o man_n when_o man_n have_v false_a heart_n we_o see_v they_o love_v we_o not_o we_o say_v they_o do_v but_o with_o he_o grief_n be_v thou_o sick_a of_o love_n as_o the_o spouse_n say_v in_o the_o canticle_n i_o be_o sick_a of_o love_n that_o be_v be_v you_o grieve_v when_o he_o be_v absent_a be_v you_o one_o though_o his_o call_n be_v never_o so_o mean_a when_o paul_n stand_v at_o the_o bar_n and_o festus_n revile_v he_o and_o say_v he_o be_v a_o mad_a fellow_n the_o suffering_n of_o this_o be_v a_o act_n and_o operation_n always_o therefore_o do_v not_o say_v you_o want_v when_o you_o shall_v always_o have_v occasion_n enough_o of_o that_o but_o you_o will_v say_v quest._n these_o general_n be_v good_a to_o exhort_v we_o to_o be_v do_v but_o yet_o in_o particular_a what_o will_v you_o have_v we_o to_o do_v now_o i_o will_v instance_n in_o some_o few_o thing_n answ._n there_o be_v certain_a time_n of_o work_v season_n as_o husbandman_n some_o time_n they_o have_v time_n of_o harvest_n and_o some_o time_n they_o have_v seed_n time_n wherein_o it_o be_v require_v that_o they_o work_v more_o than_o at_o other_o time_n so_o the_o church_n of_o god_n have_v time_n and_o season_n and_o the_o common_a wealth_n have_v some_o season_n and_o time_n when_o man_n shall_v be_v set_v a-work_o to_o do_v more_o than_o ordinary_a to_o do_v more_o than_o at_o other_o time_n and_o you_o all_o know_v this_o be_v such_o a_o season_n wherein_o there_o shall_v be_v work_v of_o every_o one_o in_o their_o several_a place_n i_o say_v it_o be_v time_n now_o for_o man_n to_o be_v work_v more_o than_o ordinary_a but_o you_o will_v say_v quest._n what_o be_v it_o you_o will_v have_v we_o to_o do_v my_o brethren_n answ._n contend_v for_o the_o faith_n once_o deliver_v to_o the_o saint_n time_n mark_v it_o the_o work_n must_v be_v to_o contend_v for_o it_o you_o must_v be_v man_n of_o be_v good_a but_o if_o you_o mean_v by_o moderation_n to_o go_v a_o slow_a and_o easy_a pace_n in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n that_o be_v coldness_n idleness_n carelessness_n there_o be_v no_o excess_n in_o any_o good_a way_n therefore_o that_o be_v your_o work_n now_o to_o contend_v for_o the_o faith_n that_o be_v for_o all_o the_o point_n of_o faith_n for_o every_o jott_n of_o that_o be_v precious_a deliver_v say_v the_o apostle_n jude_n it_o be_v but_o once_o deliver_v to_o the_o saint_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v it_o be_v too_o precious_a a_o treasure_n oft_o to_o be_v despence_v it_o be_v but_o once_o deliver_v to_o the_o world_n if_o christ_n do_v mean_a to_o come_v again_o and_o renew_v the_o article_n of_o our_o faith_n we_o may_v be_v more_o remiss_a and_o negligent_a for_o if_o we_o do_v loose_v they_o he_o may_v restore_v they_o again_o but_o they_o be_v but_o once_o deliver_v therefore_o your_o care_n must_v be_v to_o keep_v they_o the_o better_a beside_o it_o be_v the_o common_a faith_n therefore_o every_o man_n have_v interest_n in_o it_o faith_n do_v not_o say_v therefore_o what_o have_v i_o to_o do_v it_o belong_v to_o these_o and_o these_o man_n to_o look_v after_o it_o it_o be_v the_o common_a faith_n and_o every_o man_n have_v part_n in_o it_o and_o shall_v contend_v according_a to_o his_o place_n and_o power_n and_o within_o his_o spheere_n and_o remember_v it_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o much_o moment_n for_o every_o part_n of_o the_o faith_n or_o little_a matter_n of_o faith_n i_o speak_v now_o of_o the_o whole_a doctrine_n of_o faith_n that_o you_o shall_v be_v exceed_o exact_a in_o keep_v of_o it_o that_o it_o receive_v no_o detriment_n especial_o in_o matter_n of_o opinion_n practice_n for_o my_o brethren_n you_o must_v know_v that_o it_o be_v better_a there_o shall_v be_v great_a offence_n commit_v in_o the_o land_n great_a and_o notorious_a crime_n then_o that_o there_o shall_v be_v any_o loss_n in_o the_o matter_n of_o faith_n because_o where_o the_o opinion_n of_o man_n be_v set_v wrong_a that_o be_v a_o principle_n that_o carry_v they_o still_o on_o great_a fin_n come_v from_o great_a passion_n and_o man_n be_v able_a to_o see_v they_o and_o when_o the_o passion_n be_v go_v over_o slip_v they_o be_v easy_o recall_v again_o but_o error_n in_o opinion_n be_v matter_n of_o great_a moment_n therefore_o it_o belong_v to_o every_o one_o to_o look_v to_o it_o to_o we_o that_o be_v preacher_n in_o our_o place_n to_o magistrate_n
that_o though_o your_o faith_n be_v weak_a yet_o he_o belong_v to_o you_o it_o be_v a_o true_a faith_n again_o it_o shut_v out_o those_o that_o have_v false_a heart_n although_o thou_o think_v thy_o persuasion_n be_v full_a that_o christ_n belong_v to_o thou_o yet_o if_o thy_o heart_n be_v not_o thus_o prepare_v to_o seek_v he_o and_o to_o esteem_v he_o thy_o faith_n be_v not_o true_a i_o can_v salvation_n as_o that_o he_o that_o have_v it_o not_o be_v in_o a_o curse_a and_o damnable_a condition_n he_o be_v not_o in_o christ_n if_o he_o do_v not_o love_v that_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v the_o part_n of_o hector_n but_o be_v not_o so_o indeed_o so_o hypocrisy_n be_v to_o do_v the_o outward_a act_n without_o the_o inward_a sincerity_n now_o to_o do_v they_o without_o inward_a sincerity_n be_v to_o do_v they_o without_o love_n for_o to_o do_v a_o thing_n in_o love_n be_v to_o do_v it_o in_o sincerity_n and_o indeed_o there_o be_v no_o other_o definition_n of_o sincerity_n that_o be_v the_o best_a way_n to_o know_v it_o by_o a_o man_n that_o do_v much_o to_o god_n and_o not_o out_o of_o love_n all_o that_o he_o do_v be_v out_o of_o hypocrisy_n he_o be_v a_o hypocrite_n and_o there_o be_v a_o woe_n belong_v to_o he_o so_o that_o as_o we_o deal_v with_o counterfeit_a ware_n we_o break_v they_o in_o piece_n or_o we_o set_v mark_n upon_o they_o as_o we_o do_v with_o counterfeit_a piece_n of_o gold_n and_o silver_n we_o bear_v hole_n in_o they_o as_o condemn_v piece_n so_o the_o lord_n propose_v a_o woe_n to_o such_o as_o love_v he_o not_o for_o in_o that_o hypocrisy_n consist_v when_o a_o man_n do_v much_o and_o do_v it_o not_o out_o of_o love_n again_o 2._o he_o that_o break_v the_o law_n you_o know_v there_o be_v a_o curse_n belong_v to_o he_o now_o all_o mankind_n till_o they_o be_v in_o christ_n there_o be_v beside_o a_o evangelicall_n curse_v that_o follow_v upon_o the_o evangelicall_n breach_n of_o the_o law_n now_o when_o a_o man_n love_v not_o he_o break_v the_o whole_a law_n for_o as_o love_n be_v the_o keep_n of_o the_o whole_a law_n so_o the_o want_n of_o love_n be_v the_o breach_n of_o the_o whole_a law_n because_o though_o he_o may_v do_v many_o thing_n of_o the_o law_n though_o he_o may_v keep_v the_o sabbath_n though_o he_o may_v deal_v just_o though_o he_o may_v hear_v the_o word_n and_o do_v many_o thing_n yet_o
