passion_n or_o affection_n but_o rather_o careful_o endeavour_v that_o you_o fall_v in_o love_n of_o the_o commandment_n for_o unless_o one_o passion_n or_o affection_n be_v move_v there_o will_v man_n who_o delight_n be_v also_o in_o god_n commandment_n who_o love_n be_v towards_o they_o they_o be_v his_o heart_n joy_n yea_o and_o his_o song_n sure_o the_o passion_n and_o affection_n may_v be_v moderate_o spend_v upon_o every_o of_o these_o thing_n above_o mention_v but_o that_o those_o shall_v so_o engross_v unto_o they_o all_o our_o passion_n and_o affection_n as_o that_o there_o be_v no_o delight_n no_o love_n no_o joy_n leave_v for_o god_n commandment_n this_o be_v clean_a contrary_n to_o that_o disposition_n of_o mind_n which_o we_o see_v in_o this_o holy_a man_n but_o indeed_o not_o common_o to_o be_v expect_v that_o we_o can_v here_o be_v merry_a and_o not_o sin_n now_o whilst_o all_o company_n affect_v mirth_n &_o a_o liberty_n to_o be_v pleasant_a &_o hardly_o a_o man_n can_v keep_v god_n commandment_n &_o yet_o be_v merry_a with_o man_n as_o man_n be_v now_o for_o the_o most_o part_n dispose_v this_o cause_v if_o not_o a_o cast_n aside_o whole_o the_o keep_n of_o the_o lord_n commandment_n yet_o sure_o a_o restreynt_a in_o the_o saint_n such_o also_o as_o be_v somewhat_o distasteful_a to_o society_n but_o see_v there_o shall_v be_v a_o judgement_n there_o shall_v be_v a_o eternal_a burn_a why_o shall_v we_o not_o bethink_v ourselves_o of_o it_o before_o hand_n that_o we_o cast_v not_o ourselves_o foolish_o therein_o by_o take_v a_o unlawful_a liberty_n their_o admirable_a restreint_a of_o wicked_a action_n so_o i_o have_v many_o time_n mourn_v to_o see_v that_o none_o of_o their_o law_n stretch_v unto_o a_o bridle_a also_o of_o wickedness_n in_o communication_n in_o communication_n man_n may_v well_o near_o blasphemous_o swear_v without_o any_o danger_n of_o law_n in_o communication_n they_o may_v laugh_v at_o adultery_n commit_v in_o communication_n they_o may_v make_v sport_n well_o near_o of_o any_o sin_n and_o yet_o be_v without_o danger_n of_o law_n but_o whilst_o communication_n have_v this_o liberty_n the_o corrupt_a nature_n of_o man_n have_v too_o great_a advantage_n to_o spread_v abroad_o the_o poison_n of_o all_o ungodliness_n and_o sin_n communication_n be_v as_o the_o seed_n evil_a action_n the_o fruit_n practise_n of_o that_o which_o above_o i_o have_v direct_v you_o unto_o but_o indeed_o the_o devil_n by_o his_o instrument_n will_v he_o ready_a to_o make_v opposition_n here_o against_o &_o this_o to_o the_o end_n that_o you_o may_v to_o your_o own_o hurt_n rest_v still_o in_o a_o say_n only_o god_n must_v be_v fear_v or_o we_o must_v fear_v god_n without_o ever_o feel_v in_o your_o heart_n and_o glorious_a worship_n of_o the_o ancient_a church_n last_o the_o benefit_n which_o you_o yourself_o believe_v in_o god_n receive_v in_o this_o life_n and_o by_o promise_n be_v to_o receive_v in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v every_o of_o these_o be_v a_o very_a powerful_a motive_n or_o inducement_n of_o the_o love_n of_o man_n towards_o god_n therefore_o these_o thing_n ought_v you_o to_o set_v before_o your_o soul_n in_o meditation_n that_o of_o they_o you_o with_o other_o may_v be_v draw_v to_o fall_v in_o love_n of_o god_n these_o thing_n for_o that_o it_o be_v too_o much_o to_o write_v of_o they_o here_o at_o large_a i_o think_v fit_a to_o write_v of_o in_o several_a treatise_n by_o themselves_o hope_v that_o god_n people_n will_v be_v desirous_a of_o these_o treatise_n also_o for_o their_o further_a instruction_n what_o to_o do_v therein_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n i_o will_v here_o endeavour_v to_o move_v you_o unto_o this_o love_n by_o some_o of_o these_o thing_n above_o mention_v brief_o here_o touch_v at_o in_o this_o treatise_n and_o indeed_o most_o man_n come_v short_a of_o that_o love_n which_o they_o ought_v to_o bear_v to_o god_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o neglect_n they_o have_v to_o set_v before_o themselves_o in_o meditation_n some_o of_o those_o special_a thing_n whereby_o god_n draw_v the_o love_n of_o man_n unto_o himself_o everyman_n say_v who_o shall_v not_o love_v god_n yea_o they_o will_v be_v bold_a to_o say_v who_o be_v there_o among_o christian_n that_o love_v not_o god_n but_o as_o i_o have_v say_v before_o concern_v fear_n so_o i_o say_v here_o concern_v love_n many_o say_v that_o we_o must_v love_v god_n when_o yet_o their_o own_o heart_n never_o feel_v the_o affection_n itself_o of_o love_n unto_o god_n let_v they_o but_o consider_v what_o the_o affection_n of_o love_n be_v unto_o anything_o which_o they_o feel_v themselves_o to_o love_n whether_o it_o be_v wife_n or_o child_n riches_n orreputation_n honour_n prince_n to_o god_n as_o be_v his_o act_n for_o so_o here_o though_o david_n bend_v his_o will_n to_o meditate_v in_o the_o law_n of_o the_o lord_n yet_o he_o pray_v to_o god_n that_o he_o incline_v his_o heart_n unto_o his_o testimony_n so_o likewise_o exod._n 18._o 15._o though_o pharaoh_n harden_v his_o own_o heart_n yet_o chap._n 10._o 1._o god_n say_v i_o have_v harden_v his_o heart_n indeed_o i_o observe_v that_o exod._n 8._o 15._o it_o be_v say_v but_o when_o pharaoh_n see_v that_o he_o have_v rest_n give_v he_o he_o harden_v his_o heart_n and_o hearken_v not_o unto_o they_o from_o whence_o i_o think_v i_o may_v gather_v that_o this_o harden_v be_v not_o a_o evil_a quality_n infuse_v by_o its_o self_n of_o god_n but_o be_v only_o the_o permission_n of_o that_o good_a unto_o this_o he_o that_o the_o plague_n of_o frog_n may_v be_v take_v from_o he_o god_n hear_v moses_n and_o aaron_n pray_v he_o to_o take_v away_o the_o plague_n and_o yet_o even_o god_n goodness_n in_o hear_v his_o servant_n and_o take_v away_o the_o plague_n be_v the_o occasion_n that_o this_o man_n feel_v rest_n again_o harden_v his_o hart_n therefore_o though_o we_o set_v our_o heart_n very_o industrious_o to_o be_v obedient_a to_o god_n commandment_n yet_o it_o be_v needful_a that_o we_o pray_v to_o the_o lord_n also_o to_o incline_v our_o heart_n to_o his_o law_n for_o god_n by_o mean_n as_o by_o correction_n when_o we_o have_v go_v astray_o or_o by_o gift_n when_o we_o have_v apply_v ourselves_o to_o his_o service_n incline_v our_o heart_n to_o the_o keep_n of_o his_o commandment_n and_o true_o let_v our_o endeavour_n be_v what_o they_o will_v yet_o such_o be_v the_o bait_n of_o satan_n such_o the_o cross_n we_o find_v in_o obedience_n as_o that_o we_o have_v exceed_v need_n to_o pray_v with_o this_o holy_a man_n that_o god_n suffer_v we_o not_o to_o wander_v that_o he_o teach_v we_o his_o statute_n that_o he_o open_v our_o eye_n that_o he_o make_v we_o understand_v that_o he_o incline_v our_o heart_n the_o wicked_a will_n peradventure_o be_v ready_a to_o say_v must_v we_o pray_v to_o god_n that_o he_o incline_v our_o heart_n unto_o his_o law_n then_o let_v we_o take_v our_o fill_n in_o the_o pleasure_n of_o sin_n until_o god_n incline_v our_o heart_n unto_o his_o law_n for_o if_o we_o never_o incline_v our_o heart_n it_o be_v because_o he_o himself_o incline_v not_o our_o heart_n but_o contrariwise_o do_v this_o â—â—ly_a man_n of_o god_n do_v for_o though_o he_o pray_v unto_o god_n â—â—ying_v let_v i_o not_o wander_v and_o inclyne_v my_o heart_n unto_o thy_o testimony_n yet_o he_o also_o say_v with_o my_o whole_a heart_n have_v i_o seek_v thou_o and_o i_o will_v meditate_v in_o thy_o statute_n and_o certain_o it_o be_v 〈◊〉_d true_a sign_n of_o a_o child_n of_o god_n when_o he_o set_v his_o heart_n unto_o all_o godliness_n and_o yet_o pray_v unto_o god_n that_o he_o inclyne_v his_o heart_n for_o as_o our_o breathe_n be_v not_o of_o ourselves_o but_o it_o be_v god_n good_a gift_n in_o we_o that_o as_o yet_o we_o can_v breathe_v the_o breath_n of_o life_n so_o every_o good_a thing_n in_o religion_n which_o we_o do_v be_v yet_o the_o good_a gift_n of_o god_n in_o we_o and_o as_o for_o such_o to_o be_v ask_v of_o god_n our_o father_n in_o prayer_n yea_o very_o every_o particular_a thing_n in_o religion_n which_o god_n require_v of_o we_o that_o we_o do_v may_v yet_o be_v ask_v of_o god_n that_o he_o work_v the_o same_o in_o we_o for_o though_o he_o have_v send_v the_o mean_n and_o such_o mean_n as_o which_o will_v work_v such_o effect_n in_o those_o that_o resist_v not_o the_o mean_n yet_o such_o be_v the_o snare_n of_o the_o devil_n such_o the_o entice_a withdraw_a of_o the_o world_n such_o the_o opposition_n or_o persecution_n of_o all_o those_o who_o resist_v not_o but_o embrace_v the_o word_n of_o grace_n that_o it_o behoove_v we_o that_o we_o ask_v of_o god_n that_o he_o inclyne_v our_o heart_n to_o his_o word_n that_o he_o open_v our_o heart_n to_o belief_n and_o that_o he_o himself_o work_v that_o he_o require_v of_o we_o therefore_o do_v you_o find_v that_o you_o shall_v go_v as_o it_o be_v contrary_a to_o all_o man_n if_o you_o live_v after_o the_o rule_n of_o god_n commandment_n do_v you_o find_v that_o you_o shall_v loose_v much_o gain_n if_o you_o restrain_v yourself_o to_o this_o law_n do_v you_o find_v that_o you_o shall_v deprive_v yourself_o of_o please_a embracement_n please_a delight_n in_o wantonness_n if_o you_o take_v not_o liberty_n to_o cover_v other_o man_n beauty_n other_o man_n wife_n then_o yet_o consider_v that_o there_o will_v be_v a_o end_n no_o man_n life_n last_v ever_o and_o there_o be_v a_o god_n who_o will_v take_v account_n of_o his_o creature_n therefore_o say_v rather_o with_o yourself_o live_v i_o in_o such_o a_o age_n wherein_o to_o be_v righteon_n be_v contrary_a to_o all_o man_n custom_n with_o who_o i_o have_v to_o do_v sure_o so_o much_o the_o more_o miserable_a be_v my_o time_n but_o yet_o shall_v i_o leave_v such_o goodness_n as_o this_o law_n teach_v to_o make_v myself_o so_o wicked_a for_o company_n sake_n as_o i_o see_v these_o man_n i_o will_v not_o do_v it_o be_v there_o no_o possibility_n to_o gain_v unless_o i_o be_v also_o unrighteous_a in_o get_v it_o god_n forbid_v yea_o i_o may_v gain_v and_o yet_o without_o covet_v without_o steal_v without_o oppression_n without_o swell_v against_o god_n by_o gaines_n get_v therefore_o for_o the_o gain_n of_o unrighteousness_n let_v it_o not_o come_v into_o my_o possession_n let_v who_o will_v follow_v after_o that_o i_o will_v have_v my_o eye_n to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n in_o get_v it_o why_o shall_v i_o love_v the_o unlawful_a embracement_n why_o shall_v i_o love_v the_o unlawful_a liberty_n of_o a_o lustful_a eye_n will_v not_o god_n judge_v for_o these_o thing_n if_o i_o do_v this_o shall_v i_o not_o be_v as_o he_o that_o have_v steal_v for_o who_o the_o execution_n of_o hang_v wait_v if_o my_o own_o wife_n shall_v be_v so_o covet_v of_o another_o or_o if_o when_o i_o shall_v have_v a_o wife_n i_o shall_v be_v so_o use_v will_v that_o please_v i_o if_o no_o then_o let_v i_o content_v myself_o with_o her_o who_o i_o shall_v link_v myself_o unto_o and_o though_o i_o may_v be_v conversant_a with_o other_o woman_n and_o delight_v of_o god_n gift_n of_o beauty_n proportion_n wisdom_n and_o the_o like_a in_o they_o yet_o for_o god_n law_n sake_n let_v i_o abstain_v
from_o sin_n let_v there_o not_o be_v adultery_n let_v there_o not_o be_v uncleanness_n let_v there_o not_o be_v secret_a covet_v sure_o sâ—_n many_o be_v the_o bait_n of_o sin_n as_o that_o it_o be_v so_o difficult_a a_o thing_n not_o to_o wander_v in_o this_o world_n from_o the_o law_n of_o god_n that_o we_o may_v well_o pray_v and_o pray_v earnest_o and_o frequent_o with_o this_o prophet_n unto_o god_n say_v let_v i_o not_o wander_v from_o thy_o commandment_n but_o though_o you_o pray_v that_o god_n let_v you_o not_o wander_v yet_o you_o must_v not_o take_v hold_n of_o every_o occasion_n of_o wander_a leave_v it_o to_o god_n to_o keep_v you_o that_o you_o wander_v not_o for_o if_o with_o such_o a_o heart_n you_o pray_v to_o god_n you_o may_v assure_v yourself_o that_o god_n will_v not_o hear_v the_o prayer_n of_o such_o a_o one_o but_o if_o you_o put_v on_o a_o resolution_n of_o mind_n to_o seek_v god_n with_o your_o whole_a heart_n and_o bend_v your_o will_n to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n put_v from_o you_o the_o occasion_n of_o unrighteous_a gain_n and_o draw_v your_o eye_n from_o a_o evil_a or_o lustful_a look_v than_o god_n will_v second_v you_o as_o he_o do_v david_n that_o the_o bait_n of_o this_o life_n shall_v not_o entice_v you_o to_o your_o perdition_n a_o man_n own_o resolution_n of_o mind_n as_o it_o be_v a_o precious_a thing_n and_o acceptable_a of_o god_n so_o it_o be_v very_o powerful_a against_o those_o thing_n against_o which_o it_o be_v settle_v therefore_o do_v but_o put_v on_o this_o resolution_n that_o with_o your_o whole_a heart_n you_o will_v seek_v god_n &_o his_o righteous_a way_n that_o you_o notwithstanding_o the_o foolish_a occasion_n of_o sin_n which_o daily_o will_v offer_v themselves_o unto_o you_o in_o this_o life_n will_v yet_o keep_v yourself_o to_o do_v as_o god_n commandment_n direct_v you_o and_o you_o shall_v feel_v that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o difficult_a a_o thing_n to_o withstand_v sin_n as_o at_o the_o first_o apprehension_n a_o man_n will_v think_v true_a it_o be_v that_o the_o heat_n of_o youth_n as_o it_o tend_v to_o lust_n and_o to_o ambition_n and_o to_o oppression_n and_o to_o wantonness_n so_o it_o be_v a_o warfare_n to_o restrain_v it_o but_o consider_v with_o yourself_o that_o there_o be_v a_o continual_a warrfare_n in_o the_o world_n which_o even_o by_o man_n law_n be_v occasion_v and_o yet_o who_o condemn_v not_o he_o that_o will_v not_o restrain_v his_o appetite_n or_o inclination_n but_o will_v expose_v himself_o for_o the_o satisfy_n of_o it_o unto_o cart_v unto_o lose_v of_o ear_n of_o nose_n or_o the_o like_a unto_o hang_v and_o unto_o quarter_a how_o hardly_o do_v a_o strong_a man_n restrain_v the_o use_n of_o his_o strength_n that_o he_o wound_n not_o this_o man_n and_o kill_v not_o that_o man_n upon_o every_o displeasure_n and_o yet_o for_o the_o law_n sake_n of_o his_o prince_n he_o restrain_v the_o disposition_n of_o his_o strength_n and_o shall_v we_o do_v less_o for_o god_n law_n sake_n how_o difficult_a a_o thing_n be_v it_o for_o young_a and_o lustful_a man_n to_o keep_v themselves_o from_o deflower_v of_o virgin_n from_o abuse_v every_o man_n wife_n and_o yet_o partly_o for_o the_o fear_n of_o man_n who_o displeasure_n shall_v be_v move_v thereby_o partly_o for_o fear_n of_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n they_o do_v restrain_v their_o heat_n and_o do_v not_o all_o that_o youth_n will_v easy_o incite_v and_o enable_v they_o unto_o and_o shall_v we_o not_o then_o endure_v the_o same_o warfare_n of_o restraint_n for_o the_o law_n sake_n of_o god_n how_o many_o be_v able_a to_o steal_v and_o yet_o endure_v want_n rather_o than_o they_o will_v steal_v and_o be_v not_o this_o a_o warfare_n sure_o yes_o but_o if_o for_o fear_n of_o prince_n punishment_n man_n endure_v this_o warfare_n why_o shall_v they_o not_o for_o god_n punishment_n endure_v the_o same_o but_o indeed_o the_o prince_n punishment_n be_v god_n punishment_n though_o god_n can_v and_o will_v punish_v they_o so_o who_o will_v not_o be_v restrain_v for_o the_o punishment_n of_o their_o prince_n as_o no_o prince_n can_v possible_o punish_v any_o god_n can_v punish_v in_o this_o world_n with_o blind_a of_o the_o mind_n harden_v of_o the_o heart_n and_o with_o â—ending_v into_o swinish_a or_o wicked_a man_n evil_a spirit_n to_o lead_v they_o into_o further_a and_o further_o evil_n this_o can_v prince_n do_v and_o yet_o they_o be_v most_o fearful_a judgement_n and_o plague_n of_o god_n even_o in_o this_o life_n beside_o this_o he_o can_v even_o in_o this_o life_n punish_v with_o a_o final_a cast_v away_o or_o reprobation_n and_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v with_o a_o keep_n man_n in_o a_o eternal_a live_n in_o pain_n in_o torment_n gnash_v of_o tooth_n word_n and_o never_o quenchable_a burn_v therefore_o though_o occasion_n unto_o sin_n may_v offer_v themselves_o daily_o unto_o you_o yet_o put_v on_o a_o settle_n of_o your_o mind_n to_o keep_v god_n law_n animate_v yourself_o thereto_o by_o the_o invaluable_a benefit_n of_o obedience_n and_o fright_v yourself_o from_o sin_n by_o set_v before_o yourself_o with_o faith_n the_o fearful_a punishment_n of_o disobedience_n and_o join_v herewithal_o a_o invocate_a of_o god_n assistance_n and_o then_o you_o shall_v sure_o much_o the_o more_o easy_o yea_o not_o without_o delight_n feel_v this_o a_o very_a powerful_a mean_n of_o keep_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n to_o which_o if_o you_o join_v a_o desire_n of_o heart_n and_o prayer_n unto_o god_n that_o you_o may_v discover_v the_o goodness_n and_o utility_n of_o his_o law_n pray_v with_o the_o prophet_n that_o god_n teach_v you_o his_o statute_n that_o he_o open_v your_o eye_n that_o you_o may_v see_v the_o wonder_n of_o his_o law_n that_o he_o make_v you_o understand_v the_o way_n of_o his_o precept_n you_o shall_v sure_o great_o further_a your_o keep_n of_o the_o commandment_n god_n for_o it_o be_v no_o small_a provocation_n to_o the_o keep_n of_o a_o law_n when_o our_o understanding_n be_v open_v to_o discern_v the_o goodness_n utility_n and_o righteousness_n of_o a_o law_n wherefore_o though_o you_o set_v yourself_o industrious_o to_o the_o keep_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n as_o â—â—ling_v or_o guide_v and_o restrain_v in_o all_o your_o action_n communication_n yea_o and_o think_n bridle_v they_o in_o when_o they_o will_v take_v liberty_n to_o wander_v from_o the_o commandment_n yet_o use_v yourself_o withal_o to_o pray_v with_o this_o holy_a prophet_n unto_o god_n that_o god_n assist_v you_o also_o keep_v you_o that_o you_o wander_v not_o from_o his_o commandment_n teach_v you_o open_v your_o understanding_n and_o incline_v your_o heart_n unto_o his_o testimony_n for_o the_o second_o mean_n which_o be_v affliction_n we_o have_v also_o very_o great_a need_n thereof_o therefore_o if_o after_o we_o have_v be_v loose_a in_o any_o thing_n follow_v after_o some_o sin_n cast_v the_o lord_n holy_a commandment_n behind_o our_o back_n for_o that_o time_n the_o lord_n than_o send_v upon_o we_o some_o affliction_n let_v we_o consider_v that_o this_o affliction_n as_o it_o may_v be_v a_o gentle_a correction_n send_v we_o of_o the_o lord_n so_o it_o may_v be_v also_o a_o mean_n that_o we_o stray_v not_o still_o from_o his_o commandment_n and_o indeed_o we_o be_v common_o so_o apt_a if_o god_n but_o bless_v we_o with_o such_o a_o portion_n of_o this_o world_n wealth_n as_o that_o we_o can_v with_o credit_n and_o boldness_n hold_v society_n with_o the_o rich_a and_o those_o of_o good_a place_n in_o authority_n then_o to_o take_v liberty_n either_o to_o neglect_v all_o dependence_n on_o god_n or_o to_o do_v violence_n to_o some_o who_o we_o malign_v or_o to_o entice_v the_o fair_a or_o beautiful_a woman_n in_o our_o company_n to_o be_v dishonest_a with_o we_o as_o that_o there_o be_v need_n that_o god_n send_v upon_o we_o either_o dejection_n of_o estate_n or_o else_o infirmity_n of_o body_n that_o so_o even_o of_o disability_n to_o be_v any_o long_a bold_a to_o commit_v such_o sin_n we_o may_v both_o turn_v in_o our_o heart_n from_o do_v such_o evil_a and_o also_o turn_v again_o to_o the_o lord_n yield_v obedience_n to_o his_o word_n sure_o if_o this_o holy_a prophet_n can_v say_v before_o i_o be_v afflict_v i_o go_v astray_o but_o now_o i_o keep_v thy_o word_n much_o more_o have_v other_o man_n need_v of_o this_o restraint_n from_o eviâ—â—_n by_o affliction_n wherefore_o learn_v you_o also_o when_o you_o feeleâ—â—â—_n to_o make_v this_o godly_a use_n of_o they_o that_o they_o not_o only_o stay_v you_o from_o further_o stray_v but_o also_o work_v you_o to_o a_o keep_v now_o yet_o the_o word_n of_o your_o god_n say_v with_o yourself_o i_o be_o now_o in_o
