judgement_n of_o god_n execute_v of_o late_a not_o lift_v up_o our_o eye_n to_o the_o judgement_n of_o old_a shall_v ascribe_v they_o to_o evil_a fortune_n chance_n and_o destiny_n we_o may_v then_o see_v how_o they_o which_o use_v the_o mean_n of_o good_a thing_n increase_v in_o they_o and_o how_o they_o that_o resrain_v not_o from_o evil_a do_v slide_v back_o unto_o wickedness_n wherefore_o that_o we_o may_v thorough_o be_v persuade_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o lord_n in_o thing_n command_v forbid_a threaten_a promise_a it_o be_v requisite_a to_o observe_v the_o proof_n of_o they_o so_o oft_o as_o god_n give_v just_a occasion_n thereof_o for_o until_o we_o look_v on_o these_o thing_n and_o see_v his_o blessing_n and_o judgement_n his_o judgement_n we_o shall_v never_o have_v a_o care_n to_o do_v good_a nor_o a_o conscience_n to_o avoid_v evil_a and_o to_o look_v into_o they_o be_v to_o look_v into_o the_o glass_n of_o god_n word_n many_o deny_v providence_n because_o they_o have_v not_o a_o knowledge_n of_o the_o word_n or_o else_o lean_v to_o their_o reason_n give_v too_o much_o to_o natural_a cause_n or_o last_o because_o they_o have_v not_o a_o daily_o grow_v in_o the_o word_n for_o that_o may_v well_o be_v the_o sense_n of_o this_o place_n thou_o do_v make_v i_o to_o grow_v in_o knowledge_n here_o be_v also_o commend_v unto_o we_o the_o teach_n of_o the_o spirit_n by_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n for_o otherwise_o we_o may_v often_o read_v the_o scripture_n and_o yet_o be_v ignorant_a in_o god_n judgement_n in_o not_o ascribe_v every_o judgement_n to_o his_o peculiar_a office_n for_o when_o we_o hear_v of_o a_o heretic_n we_o say_v what_o be_v he_o a_o heretic_n i_o marvel_v he_o be_v become_v such_o a_o one_o i_o know_v he_o a_o honest_a man_n i_o never_o know_v any_o evil_a by_o he_o yet_o the_o word_n of_o god_n tell_v we_o that_o some_o man_n sin_n go_v before_o to_o judgement_n and_o some_o man_n come_v after_o and_o that_o it_o be_v come_v to_o he_o either_o for_o want_v of_o good_a work_n or_o for_o some_o secret_a sin_n it_o follow_v vers._n 103._o how_o sweet_a be_v thy_o promise_n unto_o my_o mouth_n yea_o sweet_a than_o â—â—ny_n unto_o my_o mouth_n we_o have_v hear_v in_o the_o nine_o portion_n that_o until_o we_o put_v our_o whole_a folicitie_n in_o the_o word_n word_n we_o shall_v not_o profit_v allurement_n of_o the_o world_n the_o enticement_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o devil_n bitter_a unto_o we_o then_o shall_v we_o taste_v this_o sweetness_n wherefore_o before_o we_o make_v conscience_n to_o use_v the_o mean_n of_o good_a and_o to_o avoid_v the_o occasion_n of_o evil_a we_o can_v profit_v thus_o we_o have_v show_v how_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n may_v be_v sweet_a that_o be_v unto_o they_o that_o rejoice_v either_o to_o see_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n perform_v to_o the_o penitent_a or_o his_o wrath_n fulfil_v in_o the_o impenitent_a this_o delight_n make_v the_o prophet_n out_o of_o the_o abundance_n of_o his_o heart_n to_o speak_v joyful_o of_o they_o portion_n 2._o 6._o with_o my_o lip_n have_v i_o declare_v all_o the_o judgement_n of_o thy_o comfort_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n wherefore_o we_o be_v to_o examine_v our_o own_o heart_n that_o how_o so_o ever_o we_o have_v be_v delight_v before_o to_o hear_v vain_a and_o frivolous_a tale_n so_o from_o henceforth_o we_o may_v please_v ourselves_o in_o true_a history_n in_o the_o word_n for_o though_o other_o may_v be_v corrupt_a with_o flatter_n yet_o these_o history_n be_v true_a &_o free_a from_o all_o assentation_n because_o they_o register_v as_o well_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o king_n and_o their_o kindred_n as_o their_o virtue_n neither_o can_v we_o ever_o sound_v the_o prophet_n until_o from_o the_o experience_n of_o our_o own_o self_n we_o can_v proclaim_v forth_o the_o example_n both_o of_o god_n promise_n and_o of_o his_o judgement_n we_o show_v that_o the_o cause_n why_o we_o feel_v not_o such_o profit_n as_o the_o man_n of_o god_n do_v in_o the_o word_n be_v because_o we_o use_v not_o the_o like_a pain_n we_o use_v few_o mean_n therefore_o our_o love_n be_v the_o less_o to_o the_o truth_n we_o avoid_v not_o so_o many_o occasion_n of_o evil_a therefore_o we_o sin_v the_o more_o if_o we_o then_o will_v be_v more_o diligent_a in_o conference_n more_o fervent_a in_o prayer_n more_o give_v to_o meditation_n we_o shall_v profit_v more_o if_o we_o will_v refrain_v from_o evil_a and_o abstain_v from_o occasion_n of_o it_o we_o shall_v both_o be_v great_a in_o good_a thing_n and_o avoid_v many_o affliction_n the_o cause_n then_o why_o we_o either_o speak_v not_o of_o god_n judgement_n at_o all_o or_o speak_v speak_v so_o cold_o be_v because_o we_o be_v so_o dead_a in_o use_v the_o mean_n of_o good_a and_o so_o dull_a in_o avoid_v the_o occasion_n of_o evil_a the_o prophet_n port_n 7._o 4._o say_v i_o have_v remember_v thy_o judgement_n of_o old_a and_o have_v be_v comfort_v where_o we_o be_v to_o note_v that_o we_o be_v not_o at_o utter_a defiance_n of_o sin_n note_n and_o in_o full_a league_n with_o goodness_n until_o we_o have_v find_v comfort_n when_o either_o the_o lord_n show_v mercy_n upon_o he_o or_o vengeance_n on_o the_o wicked_a and_o then_o god_n judgement_n will_v be_v sweet_a unto_o we_o when_o remember_v that_o no_o sin_n shall_v be_v unpunished_a we_o abstain_v from_o sin_n â—nd_v see_v that_o no_o good_a thing_n shall_v be_v unrewarded_a we_o be_v move_v to_o goodness_n for_o what_o can_v strengthen_v a_o man_n more_o than_o to_o consider_v this_o that_o god_n will_v punish_v sin_n one_o day_n and_o that_o in_o time_n he_o will_v fulfil_v his_o promise_n to_o his_o child_n which_o walk_v in_o truth_n that_o the_o life_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v not_o in_o he_o thus_o peter_n faith_n do_v not_o whole_o fail_v as_o you_o have_v hear_v or_o else_o the_o prayer_n of_o our_o saviour_n prevail_v not_o the_o liberty_n of_o conscience_n &_o peace_n of_o mind_n in_o other_o which_o we_o have_v rejoice_v at_o in_o ourselves_o because_o in_o suffer_v misery_n we_o have_v learn_v to_o offer_v mercy_n of_o his_o sin_n because_o of_o our_o zeal_n in_o pure_a zeal_n therefore_o there_o must_v be_v anger_n for_o offend_a god_n and_o grief_n because_o our_o brother_n have_v offend_v when_o our_o saviour_n christ_n go_v about_o to_o heal_v the_o man_n that_o have_v the_o wither_a have_v the_o pharisy_n that_o stand_v by_o murmur_v because_o he_o will_v heal_v on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n it_o so_o foul_o oversee_v so_o likewise_o in_o zeal_n of_o his_o father_n christ_n look_v on_o jerusalem_n with_o a_o hatred_n to_o their_o sin_n and_o yet_o with_o a_o pity_n to_o their_o misery_n which_o be_v at_o hand_n he_o weep_v over_o it_o mark_v this_o in_o all_o the_o prophet_n from_o time_n to_o time_n whether_o it_o have_v not_o be_v so_o in_o they_o look_v on_o isaiah_n on_o jeremy_n on_o 〈◊〉_d on_o daâ—â—â—â—â—â—â—â—_n â—â—â—â—â—_z 〈◊〉_d of_o spiritâ—â—ey_n use_v not_o utter_v their_o word_n and_o when_o they_o most_o threaten_v the_o people_n for_o their_o sin_n they_o be_v notwithstanding_o his_o great_a authority_n in_o zeal_n of_o god_n glory_n he_o tell_v he_o flat_o that_o he_o be_v a_o sinner_n and_o yet_o always_o be_v he_o bend_v to_o lament_v for_o saul_n and_o to_o pray_v for_o he_o if_o we_o keep_v this_o golden_a mixture_n we_o shall_v stop_v the_o mouth_n of_o the_o adversary_n who_o accuse_v we_o to_o be_v too_o full_a of_o rancour_n and_o malice_n if_o we_o be_v angry_a as_o enemy_n to_o their_o sin_n but_o be_v grieve_v in_o that_o for_o sin_n they_o be_v become_v enemy_n to_o god_n if_o then_o we_o admonish_v other_o and_o he_o angry_a with_o they_o not_o as_o seek_v any_o revenge_n of_o ourselves_o but_o as_o do_v it_o of_o necessity_n because_o otherwise_o we_o shall_v be_v guilty_a of_o dishonour_v god_n and_o show_v ourselves_o to_o be_v angry_a against_o our_o will_n and_o that_o we_o do_v it_o only_o for_o god_n cause_n and_o therewithal_o remember_v ourselves_o to_o be_v but_o man_n subject_a to_o the_o same_o we_o shall_v admonish_v
who_o so_o see_v not_o great_a corruption_n in_o his_o heart_n he_o see_v nothing_o yet_o the_o child_n of_o god_n may_v say_v that_o their_o heart_n be_v pure_a by_o christ_n which_o by_o faith_n purify_v they_o and_o have_v wrought_v the_o death_n of_o sin_n in_o they_o though_o some_o corruption_n remain_v in_o their_o heart_n this_o doctrine_n have_v two_o special_a use_n first_o to_o humble_v we_o second_o to_o comfort_v us._n we_o self_n have_v good_a cause_n to_o be_v humble_v see_v that_o it_o teach_v we_o that_o the_o very_a cause_n of_o all_o our_o sin_n be_v in_o ourselves_o &_o can_v be_v lay_v upon_o any_o other_o it_o be_v our_o own_o corruption_n which_o cause_v we_o to_o sin_n while_o it_o give_v place_n to_o the_o suggestion_n of_o satan_n to_o the_o policy_n of_o perverse_a man_n and_o to_o the_o temptation_n of_o our_o own_o flesh_n if_o this_o corruption_n be_v not_o in_o we_o no_o temptation_n shall_v prevail_v against_o we_o if_o this_o corruption_n be_v not_o root_v in_o our_o heart_n we_o shall_v overcome_v evil_a through_o goodness_n christ_n be_v free_a from_o all_o sin_n and_o void_a of_o all_o corruption_n therefore_o sathan_n by_o temptation_n can_v not_o prevail_v against_o he_o no_o sathan_n can_v not_o prevail_v against_o our_o first_o father_n until_o his_o hart_n through_o unbelief_n be_v corrupt_v but_o we_o through_o our_o corruption_n do_v yield_v unto_o our_o temptation_n and_o therefore_o we_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o our_o own_o sin_n that_o say_v therefore_o be_v altogether_o unsavourie_a which_o thief_n and_o their_o sin_n rest_v upon_o themselves_o second_o this_o doctrine_n do_v great_o comfort_v we_o see_v â—t_z give_v assurance_n of_o victory_n against_o all_o temptation_n if_o we_o be_v renew_a in_o our_o inward_a man_n if_o our_o hart_n be_v purify_v by_o faith_n and_o if_o we_o labour_v against_o they_o by_o fly_v unto_o christ._n and_o this_o shall_v seem_v comfortable_a indeed_o if_o we_o consider_v that_o every_o man_n have_v some_o corruption_n either_o more_o or_o less_o in_o his_o heart_n according_a to_o the_o measure_n of_o his_o regeneration_n and_o again_o if_o we_o consider_v that_o the_o devil_n as_o a_o deadly_a enemy_n go_v about_o to_o overthrow_v he_o and_o to_o subvert_v his_o faith_n by_o mean_n of_o that_o corruption_n these_o thing_n if_o we_o think_v of_o it_o will_v be_v very_o comfortable_a to_o know_v that_o we_o shall_v persevere_v and_o continue_v not_o able_a final_o to_o be_v overcome_v saint_n of_o any_o temptation_n it_o will_v be_v very_o comfortable_a to_o know_v that_o the_o devil_n for_o all_o his_o fury_n be_v like_a unto_o that_o soldier_n which_o lance_v the_o imposthume_n of_o his_o enemy_n and_o preserve_v his_o life_n when_o buffete_v by_o satan_n if_o we_o be_v pure_a in_o heart_n and_o stand_v steadfast_a the_o devil_n the_o world_n wicked_a man_n our_o own_o corruption_n and_o all_o may_v tempt_v we_o yet_o they_o shall_v not_o hurt_v us._n they_o may_v let_v we_o see_v some_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o we_o some_o sin_n whereof_o we_o have_v not_o thorough_o repent_v of_o or_o something_o that_o be_v not_o be_v try_v two_o way_n either_o by_o affliction_n and_o temptation_n or_o else_o by_o the_o motion_n and_o affection_n thereof_o for_o if_o there_o be_v any_o corruption_n in_o our_o heart_n it_o will_v appear_v by_o one_o of_o these_o affliction_n sure_o it_o be_v that_o as_o a_o man_n do_v show_v himself_o in_o trouble_n and_o temptation_n such_o a_o one_o he_o be_v indeed_o if_o trouble_n do_v not_o overturn_v he_o if_o fear_v cause_v he_o not_o to_o fall_v away_o if_o temptation_n can_v move_v he_o to_o forsake_v the_o truth_n or_o to_o deny_v his_o profession_n then_o very_o he_o
