because_o we_o have_v not_o be_v wont_a to_o walk_v with_o the_o lord_n be_v it_o a_o great_a thing_n for_o he_o to_o die_v when_o he_o have_v the_o same_o company_n and_o the_o same_o friend_n with_o he_o still_o it_o be_v but_o chance_v the_o place_n not_o his_o company_n one_o of_o the_o speech_n repeat_v by_o the_o author_n at_o his_o death_n for_o he_o be_v present_a every_o where_o therefore_o our_o duty_n thence_o be_v no_o maintain_v such_o a_o constant_a communion_n with_o he_o that_o we_o may_v be_v able_a to_o fetch_v help_n and_o comfort_n and_o direction_n from_o he_o so_o that_o we_o need_v not_o turn_v aside_o to_o the_o creature_n and_o be_v dependent_a upon_o they_o and_o indeed_o one_o that_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o lord_n and_o have_v full_a communion_n with_o he_o may_v be_v satisfy_v with_o that_o alone_a for_o what_o be_v it_o that_o make_v a_o man_n to_o desire_v company_n it_o arise_v from_o these_o two_o thing_n first_o partly_o because_o one_o will_v have_v fit_a object_n to_o exercise_v his_o faculty_n upon_o which_o if_o he_o have_v not_o they_o will_v languish_v and_o a_o wearisomeness_n will_v grow_v upon_o they_o second_o because_o he_o will_v have_v knowledge_n and_o direction_n and_o help_v and_o advice_n and_o comfort_v bring_v into_o his_o empty_a heart_n by_o such_o friend_n as_o be_v able_a to_o suggest_v it_o to_o he_o and_o therefore_o they_o desire_v company_n now_o shall_v they_o not_o find_v this_o in_o the_o lord_n more_o than_o in_o any_o creature_n be_v not_o he_o then_o the_o worthy_a and_o the_o high_a object_n on_o who_o they_o shall_v bestow_v their_o thought_n again_o can_v he_o fill_v thy_o heart_n with_o joy_n and_o comfort_v be_v not_o he_o only_o wise_a to_o give_v thou_o direction_n upon_o the_o strong_a a_o man_n faith_n be_v the_o more_o he_o do_v it_o again_o a_o man_n walk_v with_o himself_o by_o reflection_n on_o his_o own_o action_n and_o heart_n and_o way_n a_o beast_n can_v walk_v with_o itself_o because_o it_o can_v recoil_v and_o turn_v in_o upon_o itself_o neither_o can_v child_n or_o fool_n or_o weak_a and_o unconstant_a man_n therefore_o they_o can_v be_v without_o company_n it_o be_v a_o hell_n to_o they_o to_o be_v alone_o and_o the_o less_o a_o man_n wisdom_n be_v the_o more_o he_o complain_v of_o want_n of_o company_n see_v therefore_o god_n be_v every_o where_o present_a labour_v to_o strengthen_v thy_o faith_n in_o that_o his_o presence_n and_o so_o thou_o may_v still_o be_v with_o he_o and_o walk_v with_o he_o and_o then_o second_o labour_v to_o this_o case_n suppose_v a_o wise_a and_o godly_a man_n shall_v stand_v by_o and_o take_v notice_n of_o all_o thy_o base_a thought_n that_o pass_v through_o thy_o heart_n will_v thou_o not_o be_v ashamed_a of_o thyself_o if_o thy_o body_n be_v make_v a_o glass_n and_o man_n shall_v see_v all_o thy_o thought_n through_o it_o will_v thou_o not_o be_v ashamed_a of_o they_o and_o careful_a in_o his_o table-book_n what_o they_o do_v and_o do_v declare_v it_o to_o their_o enemy_n or_o to_o the_o king_n and_o counsel_n man_n will_v be_v exceed_o wary_a they_o will_v ponder_v every_o word_n before_o they_o speak_v so_o when_o god_n be_v present_a and_o behold_v all_o that_o thou_o do_v have_v thou_o not_o reason_n much_o more_o to_o consider_v thy_o way_n man_n say_v indeed_o that_o the_o lord_n be_v present_v every_o where_o but_o our_o life_n show_v that_o we_o think_v like_o the_o atheist_n in_o job_n that_o god_n be_v shut_v up_o in_o the_o thick_a cloud_n and_o can_v see_v through_o they_o yea_o there_o be_v no_o man_n but_o needs_o a_o increase_n
their_o hand_n and_o paul_n that_o be_v the_o mean_n of_o convert_v so_o many_o thousand_o he_o ascribe_v nothing_o to_o himself_o but_o it_o be_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n that_o be_v with_o he_o so_o samson_n be_v strong_a but_o yet_o he_o have_v his_o strength_n from_o god_n and_o therefore_o this_o be_v a_o argument_n that_o the_o scripture_n be_v write_v by_o holy_a man_n inspire_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n see_v we_o have_v such_o just_a ground_n to_o believe_v use_v that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n that_o make_v heaven_n and_o earth_n principle_n and_o that_o this_o word_n which_o testify_v of_o he_o be_v indeed_o the_o word_n of_o god._n this_o use_n we_o be_v to_o make_v of_o it_o that_o it_o may_v not_o be_v in_o vain_a to_o we_o it_o shall_v teach_v we_o to_o confirm_v this_o first_o principle_n and_o make_v it_o sure_a see_v all_o the_o rest_n be_v build_v upon_o it_o therefore_o we_o have_v reason_n to_o weigh_v it_o that_o we_o may_v give_v full_a consent_n to_o it_o and_o not_o a_o weak_a one_o object_n but_o you_o will_v say_v this_o be_v a_o principle_n that_o need_v not_o to_o be_v thus_o urge_v or_o make_v question_n of_o therefore_o what_o need_v so_o many_o reason_n to_o prove_v it_o answ._n even_o the_o strong_a among_o we_o have_v still_o need_v to_o increase_v our_o faith_n in_o this_o point_n and_o therefore_o we_o have_v cause_n to_o attend_v to_o it_o and_o that_o for_o these_o two_o reason_n reason_n because_o these_o principle_n though_o they_o be_v so_o common_a 1._o yet_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n in_o the_o belief_n of_o the_o saint_n principle_n and_o that_o with_o which_o common_a man_n believe_v they_o the_o difference_n be_v in_o these_o four_o thing_n both_o of_o they_o do_v believe_v and_o they_o speak_v as_o they_o think_v yet_o you_o shall_v find_v this_o difference_n a_o regenerate_a man_n have_v a_o further_a and_o a_o deep_a insight_n into_o these_o truth_n he_o give_v a_o more_o through_o and_o a_o strong_a assent_n to_o they_o 1._o but_o another_o man_n give_v a_o more_o slight_a and_o overly_o assent_n that_o faith_n with_o which_o they_o believe_v they_o be_v a_o faith_n that_o want_v depth_n of_o earth_n therefore_o if_o any_o strong_a temptation_n come_v upon_o they_o as_o fear_v of_o be_v put_v to_o death_n etc._n etc._n they_o be_v soon_o shake_v off_o and_o do_v often_o fall_v away_o when_o they_o be_v put_v to_o it_o they_o shrink_v away_o in_o time_n of_o persecution_n for_o their_o faith_n want_v depth_n of_o earth_n that_o be_v the_o assent_n they_o give_v to_o the_o scripture_n be_v but_o a_o overly_o and_o superficial_a assent_n it_o do_v not_o take_v deep_a root_n in_o their_o soul_n and_o therefore_o it_o wither_v in_o time_n of_o temptation_n they_o do_v not_o so_o ponder_v they_o as_o other_o do_v and_o therefore_o they_o be_v not_o so_o ground_v in_o these_o first_o principle_n as_o other_o be_v though_o they_o have_v some_o hold_n 〈◊〉_d yet_o not_o so_o great_a a_o hold_n as_o the_o godly_a have_v so_o as_o they_o be_v not_o so_o firm_o establish_v so_o ground_v in_o the_o present_a truth_n they_o be_v not_o so_o root_v as_o the_o saint_n be_v 2._o that_o which_o breed_v this_o assent_n in_o they_o be_v but_o a_o common_a gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n but_o that_o with_o which_o the_o saint_n believe_v they_o be_v a_o special_a grace_n infuse_v wrought_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n now_o that_o which_o have_v a_o weak_a cause_n must_v needs_o have_v a_o weak_a effect_n that_o which_o be_v wrought_v by_o a_o common_a can_v be_v so_o strong_a a_o assent_n as_o that_o which_o be_v wrought_v by_o a_o infuse_a habit_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n therefore_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v strong_a than_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o wicked_a the_o saint_n the_o regenerate_a man_n 3_o build_v their_o hope_n comfort_n and_o happiness_n upon_o the_o truth_n of_o these_o principle_n as_o that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n that_o rule_v heaven_n and_o earth_n and_o that_o the_o scripture_n be_v his_o word_n and_o whatsoever_o be_v in_o they_o be_v truth_n they_o build_v all_o upon_o these_o therefore_o if_o any_o doubt_n arise_v they_o can_v never_o be_v at_o rest_n till_o faith_n have_v resolve_v they_o and_o wrought_v they_o out_o with_o another_o man_n it_o be_v not_o so_o he_o take_v these_o thing_n upon_o trust_n and_o believe_v they_o as_o other_o do_v but_o he_o do_v not_o much_o trouble_v himself_o about_o they_o and_o therefore_o if_o any_o doubt_n come_v against_o they_o he_o suffer_v they_o to_o lie_v there_o and_o go_v on_o in_o a_o careless_a manner_n but_o with_o the_o saint_n it_o be_v not_o so_o they_o build_v their_o hope_n upon_o they_o do_v therefore_o resolve_v to_o suffer_v any_o thing_n for_o god_n they_o will_v be_v content_a to_o lose_v all_o for_o he_o if_o occasion_n require_v and_o therefore_o they_o be_v upon_o sure_a ground_n but_o the_o other_o they_o do_v but_o receive_v upon_o trust_n and_o therefore_o they_o do_v not_o cleave_v to_o he_o in_o that_o manner_n that_o the_o saint_n do_v regenerate_v man_n have_v a_o lively_a and_o experimental_a knowledge_n that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n 4._o and_o that_o the_o scripture_n be_v his_o word_n from_o the_o communion_n that_o they_o have_v have_v with_o this_o god_n and_o from_o the_o experience_n they_o have_v have_v of_o the_o truth_n deliver_v in_o the_o scripture_n they_o know_v very_o well_o and_o that_o experimental_o what_o difference_n there_o be_v between_o what_o they_o be_v once_o and_o what_o they_o be_v now_o what_o it_o be_v to_o envy_v the_o saint_n and_o what_o it_o be_v to_o have_v a_o affection_n of_o love_n to_o they_o they_o know_v the_o time_n when_o they_o slight_v sin_n when_o they_o make_v no_o reckon_n of_o it_o they_o know_v again_o the_o bitterness_n and_o sorrow_n of_o sin_n when_o the_o commandment_n come_v and_o show_v it_o unto_o they_o in_o its_o colour_n they_o know_v a_o time_n when_o they_o judge_v perverse_o of_o the_o way_n of_o god_n when_o they_o have_v a_o bad_a opinion_n of_o they_o and_o how_o now_o they_o be_v change_v beside_o they_o know_v how_o that_o once_o they_o do_v admire_v and_o magnify_v worldly_a excellency_n and_o preferment_n but_o since_o they_o be_v enlighten_v their_o opinion_n be_v otherwise_o i_o say_v they_o know_v all_o this_o experimental_o take_v the_o whole_a work_n of_o regeneration_n they_o know_v it_o in_o themselves_o and_o so_o for_o god_n himself_o as_o he_o be_v describe_v in_o the_o scripture_n such_o have_v they_o find_v he_o to_o themselves_o now_o where_o a_o man_n do_v know_v thing_n thus_o experimental_o it_o be_v another_o kind_n of_o knowledge_n than_o that_o which_o be_v by_o hearsay_n so_o that_o though_o there_o be_v a_o belief_n in_o they_o both_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n between_o they_o 2._o we_o must_v labour_v to_o confirm_v our_o faith_n in_o these_o principle_n because_o they_o be_v of_o exceed_v great_a moment_n and_o consequence_n in_o the_o life_n of_o man_n life_n though_o they_o seem_v to_o be_v remote_a yet_o they_o be_v of_o more_o moment_n than_o any_o other_o as_o of_o a_o house_n you_o see_v a_o fair_a top_n but_o yet_o the_o foundation_n be_v of_o more_o moment_n and_o that_o can_v be_v see_v the_o stream_n be_v see_v but_o the_o wellhead_n can_v so_o all_o the_o action_n of_o the_o life_n of_o man_n be_v build_v upon_o these_o principle_n and_o as_o they_o be_v more_o strong_o or_o weak_o believe_v so_o have_v they_o more_o or_o less_o influence_n into_o the_o heart_n and_o life_n of_o man_n as_o take_v a_o man_n that_o believe_v full_o that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n and_o that_o the_o scripture_n be_v his_o word_n this_o breed_v a_o unresistable_a resolution_n to_o serve_v and_o please_v he_o notwithstanding_o all_o opposition_n he_o meet_v with_o take_v the_o great_a thing_n that_o use_v to_o daunt_v man_n as_o take_v a_o man_n that_o be_v to_o die_v if_o he_o consider_v that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n with_o who_o he_o be_v to_o live_v for_o ever_o what_o be_v death_n then_o no_o more_o than_o the_o stone_n fly_v about_o stevens_n ear_n when_o he_o behold_v the_o heaven_n open_v so_o when_o man_n speak_v against_o he_o and_o slander_v he_o when_o they_o scoff_v and_o revile_v he_o and_o trample_v upon_o he_o yet_o if_o god_n be_v with_o he_o he_o can_v bold_o say_v i_o care_v not_o for_o man_n day_n nor_o for_o the_o speak_n against_o of_o sinner_n he_o be_v not_o move_v a_o whit_n with_o they_o they_o pass_v away_o as_o a_o vapour_n that_o move_v he_o not_o so_o when_o he_o see_v the_o current_n of_o the_o time_n to_o run_v against_o he_o yet_o when_o he_o
see_v that_o there_o be_v a_o almighty_a god_n that_o take_v notice_n of_o he_o he_o be_v able_a to_o stand_v against_o and_o despise_v they_o all_o and_o be_v not_o stir_v a_o hair_n breadth_n out_o of_o the_o way_n for_o it_o they_o be_v as_o water_n beat_v against_o a_o rock_n consider_v the_o martyr_n that_o die_v in_o the_o fire_n if_o you_o have_v stand_v by_o you_o will_v have_v say_v sure_o that_o man_n have_v a_o strong_a faith_n that_o can_v go_v out_o of_o this_o life_n and_o suffer_v such_o a_o kind_n of_o death_n but_o why_o do_v he_o do_v it_o because_o he_o believe_v that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n 11.6_o that_o be_v a_o rewarder_n of_o they_o that_o seek_v he_o so_o every_o regenerate_a man_n whatsoever_o he_o do_v he_o do_v it_o with_o the_o same_o faith_n that_o they_o do_v only_o here_o be_v the_o difference_n the_o martyr_n spend_v all_o at_o once_o and_o these_o do_v it_o but_o drop_n by_o drop_n as_o when_o a_o man_n forbear_v all_o present_a joy_n which_o this_o life_n consist_v in_o it_o be_v as_o it_o be_v a_o die_a by_o piecemeal_n a_o die_a drop_n by_o drop_n as_o paul_n say_v i_o die_v daily_o if_o one_o of_o we_o be_v to_o suffer_v as_o the_o martyr_n do_v what_o be_v it_o that_o will_v establish_v our_o soul_n it_o be_v the_o belief_n of_o these_o principle_n that_o enable_v the_o saint_n to_o do_v all_o this_o you_o live_v by_o your_o faith_n in_o these_o principle_n though_o you_o observe_v it_o not_o for_o this_o be_v a_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o be_v mark_v to_o this_o purpose_n that_o the_o opinion_n of_o man_n their_o imagination_n and_o thought_n they_o all_o proceed_v from_o such_o notion_n as_o lie_v more_o overly_o in_o their_o heart_n but_o their_o action_n proceed_v from_o the_o strong_a settle_a notion_n and_o principle_n that_o be_v rivet_v in_o their_o inward_a heart_n and_o therefore_o observe_v the_o life_n of_o man_n such_o as_o their_o principle_n in_o they_o be_v such_o be_v their_o action_n for_o as_o it_o be_v true_a on_o the_o one_o side_n where_o man_n believe_v there_o they_o come_v to_o god_n so_o it_o be_v true_a on_o the_o otherside_n if_o man_n be_v not_o ground_v in_o these_o first_o principle_n if_o they_o do_v not_o believe_v they_o do_v not_o come_v to_o he_o but_o go_v on_o uneven_o in_o their_o way_n and_o forsake_v their_o profession_n now_o whence_o come_v this_o uneven_a walk_n this_o exorbitance_n of_o the_o wheel_n but_o from_o the_o weakness_n of_o the_o main_a spring_n that_o set_v all_o on_o motion_n because_o these_o be_v the_o first_o spring_n that_o set_v all_o the_o rest_n on_o work_n for_o can_v a_o man_n be_v carry_v away_o by_o the_o praise_n of_o man_n by_o the_o voice_n and_o breath_n of_o man_n on_o the_o one_o side_n or_o can_v he_o be_v discourage_v by_o the_o scoff_n of_o man_n on_o the_o other_o side_n if_o he_o do_v full_o believe_v this_o principle_n it_o be_v impossible_a he_o shall_v as_o isaiah_n 52._o 52._o as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v it_o be_v impossible_a that_o man_n shall_v shrink_v so_o at_o the_o face_n of_o man_n if_o they_o do_v not_o forget_v the_o lord_n their_o maker_n hence_o it_o be_v although_o you_o do_v not_o observe_v from_o whence_o it_o come_v yet_o hence_o do_v come_v all_o those_o fruit_n of_o atheism_n in_o the_o life_n of_o man_n all_o that_o unthankfulness_n that_o man_n can_v take_v blessing_n at_o god_n hand_n and_o never_o give_v he_o thanks_n nay_o rather_o they_o render_v evil_a for_o good_a hence_o it_o be_v that_o man_n trust_v in_o mean_n more_o than_o in_o god_n hence_o
