thou_o may_v know_v all_o this_o and_o yet_o be_v far_o from_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n but_o if_o thou_o be_v not_o clear_o convince_v of_o these_o four_o particular_n let_v i_o tell_v thou_o thou_o have_v not_o so_o much_o as_o the_o least_o part_n or_o step_v so_o much_o as_o towards_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n these_o thing_n thus_o premise_v we_o shall_v proceed_v first_o then_o if_o the_o power_n of_o godliness_n dwell_v in_o thou_o thou_o be_v change_v from_o a_o estate_n of_o nature_n to_o a_o estate_n of_o grace_n thou_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o power_n of_o satan_n and_o translate_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n yea_o himself_o this_o man_n have_v the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o himself_o and_o thou_o know_v it_o and_o be_v convince_v of_o it_o in_o thy_o own_o conscience_n for_o it_o be_v not_o with_o thou_o as_o with_o a_o young_a christian_n that_o be_v only_o in_o the_o nonage_n of_o his_o conversion_n for_o he_o that_o have_v of_o maliciousness_n and_o under_o that_o oppose_v and_o persecute_v the_o power_n of_o godliness_n &_o all_o that_o do_v profess_v it_o now_o these_o be_v the_o man_n with_o who_o thou_o must_v not_o keep_v company_n who_o presence_n thou_o must_v avoid_v and_o fly_v from_o as_o enemy_n to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o to_o all_o that_o fear_v and_o love_v he_o which_o indeed_o every_o unbeliever_n be_v though_o not_o in_o that_o degree_n as_o these_o man_n be_v object_n 2_o if_o this_o be_v so_o that_o i_o must_v not_o keep_v company_n with_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a man_n than_o i_o must_v not_o come_v unto_o public_a meeting_n in_o parish_n see_v all_o those_o congregation_n be_v a_o mix_a people_n and_o for_o the_o most_o part_n profane_a and_o ungodly_a man_n and_o woman_n answ_n the_o path_n so_o narrow_a and_o the_o gate_n so_o straight_o that_o lead_v unto_o eternal_a life_n as_o many_o man_n say_v nay_o as_o the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o then_o certain_o such_o and_o such_o man_n will_v not_o live_v so_o loose_o and_o keep_v such_o profane_a company_n last_o consider_v whether_o those_o hour_n that_o thou_o spend_v in_o tavern_n or_o alehouse_n with_o company_n
suitable_a to_o such_o place_n will_v not_o be_v better_o spend_v in_o prayer_n read_v the_o scripture_n self-examination_n godly_a conference_n and_o â—ther_o holy_a duty_n will_v it_o not_o bring_v more_o glory_n to_o god_n and_o peace_n to_o thy_o soul_n when_o thou_o come_v to_o die_v do_v but_o make_v trial_n one_o week_n in_o spend_v thy_o time_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o then_o compare_v that_o with_o the_o hour_n spend_v in_o profane_a company_n and_o if_o thou_o have_v any_o spark_n of_o grace_n glow_v in_o thou_o to_o thy_o own_o apprehension_n or_o any_o work_n of_o conscience_n remain_v then_o see_v and_o judge_v impartial_o which_o time_n be_v best_a spend_v thou_o will_v certain_o conclude_v and_o say_v with_o david_n one_o day_n in_o thy_o court_n be_v better_a than_o a_o thousand_o in_o the_o tent_n of_o the_o ungodly_a one_o hour_n communion_n with_o christ_n in_o public_a in_o family_n or_o in_o close_a duty_n be_v better_a spend_v then_o ten_o thousand_o hour_n in_o any_o other_o place_n though_o it_o may_v seem_v to_o the_o flesh_n to_o be_v never_o so_o profitable_a or_o never_o so_o pleasurable_a now_o that_o god_n that_o dwell_v in_o heaven_n so_o rule_v in_o and_o dwell_v upon_o the_o spirit_n of_o all_o his_o saint_n on_o earth_n and_o make_v then_o so_o wise_a that_o they_o may_v keep_v such_o company_n on_o earth_n as_o be_v fit_a for_o heaven_n or_o at_o least_o that_o look_v heaven-ward_n now_o one_o word_n or_o two_o to_o those_o which_o no_o man_n that_o have_v any_o spark_n of_o spirituality_n dare_v call_n saint_n who_o say_v that_o they_o will_v not_o keep_v company_n with_o profane_a man_n nor_o lie_v at_o the_o tavern_n or_o alehouse_n as_o they_o do_v can_v they_o well_o avoid_v it_o it_o be_v not_o the_o greedy_a desire_n of_o the_o wine_n or_o the_o beer_n but_o the_o company_n that_o be_v there_o that_o cause_v they_o to_o come_v to_o those_o house_n and_o when_o they_o be_v call_v by_o such_o company_n they_o can_v withstand_v it_o let_v these_o man_n know_v and_o take_v notice_n that_o they_o read_v this_o text_n backward_o for_o the_o text_n say_v from_o such_o turn_n away_o but_o they_o read_v it_o but_o to_o sin_n forgive_v thou_o thy_o pardon_n must_v be_v as_o well_o seal_v in_o the_o court_n of_o justice_n as_o in_o the_o court_n of_o mercy_n as_o thou_o have_v sin_v so_o know_v that_o justice_n must_v be_v satisfy_v yea_o and_o that_o for_o thou_o if_o ever_o thou_o be_v pardon_v but_o for_o you_o that_o think_v to_o go_v to_o heaven_n with_o lord_n have_v mercy_n upon_o you_o in_o your_o mouth_n do_v but_o well_o consider_v the_o sad_a story_n that_o i_o shall_v relate_v there_o be_v a_o man_n that_o be_v a_o notorious_a swearer_n a_o wicked_a company-keeper_n and_o be_v ofttimes_o reprove_v for_o his_o sin_n his_o answer_n always_o be_v tush_o god_n be_v merciful_a upon_o a_o time_n as_o the_o story_n relate_v he_o be_v on_o horseback_n ride_v over_o a_o bridge_n that_o cross_v a_o arm_n of_o the_o thames_n part_n of_o the_o bridge_n fall_v in_o and_o as_o he_o be_v go_v he_o be_v hear_v to_o say_v horse_n and_o man_n and_o all_o to_o the_o devil_n as_o his_o companion_n testify_v o_o here_o you_o see_v though_o he_o may_v have_v go_v to_o hell_n with_o lord_n have_v mercy_n upon_o i_o in_o his_o mouth_n yet_o god_n will_v not_o suffer_v he_o so_o much_o as_o to_o take_v his_o many_o word_n at_o the_o last_o hour_n shall_v do_v they_o any_o good_a or_o redeem_v their_o soul_n from_o eternal_a burn_n and_o carry_v they_o into_o the_o bosom_n of_o everlasting_a love_n but_o
